In this issue, we’re spotlighting a Readers’ Pick winner! Congratulations to Deborah Wagner and thanks to the readers who voted.

Grandpa’s Girls Designer: Deborah Wagner Time with grandparents is precious, so when you get the chance, make sure to get a great family shot. Then create a layout with colors that match the photo! Layering elements under and around the photo gives lots of visual interest, but there’s plenty of white space on this layout to balance it out.

SCRAPLIFTING TIP

SKETCH TIP

Create a cheerful springtime spectrum of color on your title using water-based markers and a blending pen. Although Mou used a canvas alphabet, try this technique on watercolor paper and then die-cut your title.

Don’t be intimidated by the rays in this sketch. To create the diagonal across two pages, Mou trimmed two pieces of each paper to 5" x 12", laying them side by side to form 5" x 24" strips of each color. She used a pencil and ruler to trace the sunburst pattern on the backside of one color and trimmed into rays, then adhered the rays over the remaining two strips.

You Are My Sunshine Designer: Wendy Antenucci SCRAPLIFTING TIP

SKETCH TIP

Wendy enlarged a 3x4 digital journaling card by 400% and used it as the cut file for the background on her layout. She also added subtle definition to the sun’s rays with a fine-point black pen.

Wendy translated a two-page sketch to fit her single-page layout. Using just half the sketch, she also created room for five photos by adding 2x3s instead of 4x4s.

Your go-to guide for the hottest tools, freshest tips, and coolest techniques.

Goosebumps by Imagine Crafts Want the resist look without heat embossing? Toss aside that embossing powder and create the effect of a heat-emboss resist with Goosebumps from Imagine Crafts. It daubs on neatly and dries leaving the look of a slightly raised, textured watermark. Then, all you need is your favorite color medium (ink, acrylic paint, spray ink, etc.) to make a colorful statement you won’t be able to resist. Look on the next page to see how it’s done:

One Album Designer: Megan Hoeppner

1 Secure stencil in place using a repositionable tape, such as washi. Apply Goosebumps to area using dauber on bottle. Allow to dry. Note: When using Goosebumps with shimmer added, make sure product is well mixed before applying.

2 Apply color(s). Use chalk inks in colors that complement the scheme of your album.

3 Carefully remove color from Goosebumps using a wet wipe and napkin. Note: You may need to touch up areas surrounding “embossed area afterwards to keep a smooth transition between points.

Inspired! Inspiration Fresh from the Garden

A garden is ďŹ lled with optimism; what starts as cold, dirty, and bleak comes to life with sunshine, water, and care. This month, designer Alice Wertz created a joyful card inspired by pretty gardening gloves. As we spring into gardening season think to yourself, how can the outdoors inspire my next project? Alice captures the sweetness of these garden gloves by mimicking the oral pattern and the overall color scheme. I love how the green gloves on her card take center stage, further conveying the gardening theme.
