with Gallery Idol is an annual contest hosted by Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking g magazine that offers a chance for any and all card makers to prove their talent and win fantastic prizes in an American-Idol type contest. Once the top 20 contestants are chosen by the judges, it’s a popular vote from there on out. For each round, contestants make a card around a given theme and voters decide who continues on until finally a single winner is chosen.

And the winner this year is…

Jaclyn Miller! We asked Jaclyn what she most enjoyed about the competition, and this is what she had to say:

“Every round pushed me to think outside the box. If it weren’t for Gallery Idol, I wouldn’t have discovered the joy of stencils and modeling paste! The challenges were fun, but what was really delightful was the camaraderie that developed with the other contestants behind the scenes. I met some of the most passionate, outgoing, and kindest souls during this contest. I was beyond grateful and appreciative of the comments, notes, and inspiring words from all corners of the globe. I am so thankful to have been a part of it!”

10

Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking

For the final round, the five remaining designers had to create a card using adhesives in a unique way. Here is Jaclyn’s card!

Jaclyn created the scene with school glue, acrylic paint, and glossy accents. The black lines are thin strips of cardstock adhered sideways on a transparency.

Jaclyn was inspired by this actual stained glass panel, which was created using a free template.

Here are Jaclyn’s cards that got her to the ďŹ nal round::

12

Theme: die-cutting

Theme: stencils

Theme: border stamps

Jaclyn die-cut these pieces with circle and rectangle shapes and pieced together her own design.

She used stencils to create the chevrons as well as the raised wings on this card.

Jaclyn bent a border stamp into a thumbprint shape and stamped another border stamp on the right edge for this one.

I’m not sure why, but I find fall color schemes difficult to work with—they’re just not my usual go-to colors. However, the As You Wish collection by Fancy Pants Designs takes some of my favorite colors like pink and turquoise and combines them with deep golds, tans, and a touch of black for a rich fall look. The result is a fabulous collection that feels very fallish but still lets me use some of my favorite colors. Plus, who can resist that incredible chalkboard paper?

I tried a fun masking technique using stamps and coordinating dies. The stamped image remains untouched and the intricate background spaces are always perfectly filled in. On this card, I die-cut the flowers from sticky notes, placed them on top of their matching images, and sponged gold ink over the entire panel. The result is a lovely custom-made background without a whole lot of extra effort. ll Wi a r Lau

I absolutely love the new Wink of Stella glitter brush markers. The glitter is very subtle; it adds just a hint of sparkle to a project and can be the perfect finishing touch. On my card, I’ve used the glitter brush to accent the inner parts of my flowers and leaves. I love how the glitter adds something extra that makes the recipient do a double-take.
