September 11, 2011, marks the 10-year anniversary of the terrorist attack on our nation. A coalition of Barstow organizations will present "Remembering Our Heroes: A 9-11 Tribute 10 Tears Later” from September 7 through September 11, 2011, at Barstow High School’s Langworthy Field. This free, fiveday event will honor our national and local heroes, including active-duty military, veterans, law enforcement, emergency medical and fire protection personnel. As a tribute to our heroes lost in foreign wars and in the line of duty, the City of Barstow will host the "American Veterans Traveling Tribute," a 380-foot traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall with 58,253 names inscribed. The display is a series of A-frames depicting the actual statistics from every war/conflict that the USA has been involved in. The tributes include:
A series of World War II panels which portray the entire timeline of events and numerous graphics and photos A Korean War tribute consisting of 8 panels with the entire timeline and battle maps with numerous photos The Traveling Vietnam Wall - 80% replica (largest replica) of the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial in D.C., 380 ft. long, end to end, with all 58,253 names A series of Vietnam facts and figures, with the Vietnam War timeline of events. Art display from a Vietnam Vet artist A display of USA founding and significant historical documents, including the Constitution, Declaration of Independence and other relevant documents Panels for honoring Law Enforcement and Firefighters with pictorial display A panel memorializing the casualties at the Ft. Hood 2009 shooting An FBI Tribute panel that lists all of the Directors as well as the fallen Panels displaying the pictures of each of our commanders in chief throughout history Displays honoring all those who fell in hostile military action between the end of Vietnam and the 9/11 attack. Each conflict is represented with facts and each casualty is recorded A 9/11 tribute with the names of all 2,984 casualties organized by location at the time of death. A gold dog tag tribute to all those members of the armed forces who have given their life in the Global War on Terror. Each tag has full name, rank, branch of service, date of casualty, and location of casualty. Active-duty military, veterans, law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel will be honored through a patriotic theatrical production Friday and Saturday evenings at 7 p.m., with a concluding remembrance tribute on Sunday, September 11, 2011, at 10 a.m. The coalition is seeking additional sponsors, as well as committee members.
