AWARDS AND CONTEST GUIDELINES

DISTRICT & INTERNATIONAL

As the 32nd District of Key Club International, our district is eligible to participate in the International Contest and Awards. The Awards and Recognition Committee of 2022-2023 reserves the right to submit submissions for International judging. The International Awards and Contests include:

INTERNATIONAL ONLY

The following awards are available to clubs in the CNH KIWIN’S District, but must be done independently and submitted to Key Club International. These awards will not be featured or presented at DCON. See Key Club International Guidebook for more information.

CRITERIA

It is of the utmost importance that all criteria are read correctly and completed correctly. Be sure to include all required forms, recommendations, and signatures. These items vary by award and failure to abide by these parameters will result in disqualification.

DISQUALIFICATIONS

Any deviations from the judging criteria for any contest/award will result in immediate disqualification. Any suspicious activity (e.g forgeries) on an award submission will also result in disqualification. The Awards and Recognition Committee reserves the right to revoke recognition for inappropriate behavior or harassment.

IMPROMPTU ESSAY GUIDELINES

The Impromptu Essay will be conducted according to the following rules:

A) This contest will be held at a designated time and place (as stated in the convention program) where complete silence will be maintained at all times.

B) Each CNH KIWIN'S Club in good standing with Cal-Nev-Ha KIWIN'S and Key Club International will be able to select one club member to participate in the contest.

C) Each entrant will write an essay of up to 500 words on a topic unknown to the contestants in advance.

D) The following guidelines will be enforced for this contest:

1. All essays must be neatly handwritten.

2. Contestants are not permitted to use any outside notes, electronic equipment, printed materials or any other references during this contest.

3. Essays must pertain to the topic. Essays that fail to address the topic will be disqualified. Essays will be judges on a basis of quality not quantity

E) Judging and awarding points will be based on the following criteria:

KEEPING IN KIWIN’S SPIRIT GUIDELINES

The Keeping in KIWIN'S Spirit Contest will be conducted according to the following rules:

A) Written application stating that your club wishes to participate in this contest and a general description (for judges' use ONLY) of how you intend to show your spirit will be required of all clubs wishing to enter the contest.

B) Interruptions during general sessions, caucus sessions, and/or workshops may result in disqualification.

C) Noise enhancing objects, except non-electronic megaphones, will not be allowed and may result in disqualification (e.g. musical instruments, microphones, electronic megaphones, etc.) No noise makers!

D) All clubs participating in this contest MUST OBSERVE ALL CONVENTION RULES AND HOTEL RULES AT ALL TIMES. Any infraction of the rules will result in automatic disqualification.

E) Note: Clubs are permitted to place/leave KIKS on the dining room tables 45 minutes prior to each general session. Each club is allowed up to 2 members at that time. Please be courteous of others when placing the KIKS on the tables. Place all KIK items in a clear zip lock bag.

[INTERNATIONAL AWARD]

ORATORICAL CONTEST GUIDELINES

The Oratorical Contest will be conducted according to the following rules:

A) The subject matter of the oration and the presentation must be original and completely developed by each orator. Contest and presentation will be considered equally in judging.

B) Each orator will be allowed maximum of five minutes for his/her presentation. Exceeding the time limit may result in a penalty.

C) Each orator must be an official member in good standing with Key Club International.

D) Judging and awarding points will be based on the following criteria:

Speech:

Clarity of message and projection of ideas…………….25 points

Depth……………………………………………………………5 points

Originality……………………………………………………….5 points

Structure (organization, grammar, transition).................15 points

Delivery:

Presence (posture, gesture, engage audience)............15 points

Voice (tone, diction, effectiveness).................................15 points.

Ease of presentation...........................................................15 points

Attention of audience........................................................5 points

The winning orator from the organized KIWIN'S District will be eligible for the International Oratorical Contest. He/she will have been selected from outstanding club orators speaking on the same subject at the various District Conventions. Each club is allowed two participants, registered at District Convention.

E) The Chairman or other designated CNH KIWIN'S will act as an official timer. He/she will warn each orator at designated times by either standing or using time cards. At the end of the allotted time of five minutes, he/she will call time. The orator will be permitted to finish the sentence without penalty.

F) The order of speaking will be determined by a random drawing. Each orator must wait in another room, until he/she is called by the Sergeant-At-Arms. After his/her presentation, he/she must leave the room and return to the regular convention program.

G) If convention scheduling permits, one orator will be selected to present his/her oration at the Awards Ceremony.

ORATORY CONTEST GUIDELINES

[INTERNATIONAL AWARD]

Non-Traditional/Traditional Scrapbook GUIDELINES

The Non-Traditional/Traditional Scrapbook Contest will be conducted according to the following rules:

A) A CNH KIWIN'S Club may enter a non-traditional scrapbook or traditional scrapbook or composition of other media containing pictures, souvenirs, examples, newspaper clippings, or other representations of its activities during the club administrative year (defined as being from District Convention 2021 to District Convention 2022).

B) Each entry should adequately portray the following categories: Service to School; Service to Community; Fundraising Projects; Assistance to Kiwanis Projects; Major Emphasis and Miscellaneous.

C) Judging of the non-traditional scrapbook will be on a point system as follows:

Presentation- 70 points

Uniqueness/creativity of project presentation…..30 points

Artistic value and visual appearance...…….…….20 points

Newspaper clippings and Photos.………...….…….20 points

General Context - 60 points

Service to School…………………….……….………10 points

Service to Community………….………..….………10 points

Fundraising....………………………..……….….…….10 points

Assistance to Kiwanis Projects………….…….…….10 points

D) A sheet of paper must be affixed to the scrapbook containing the following: CNH KIWIN'S Club name, city, state/ province, district and an itemized statement of total expenditures and donations. If this sheet is not affixed to the scrapbook, the judges will deduct ten points. This statement must be signed by the CNH KIWIN'S Club President and faculty advisor, stating the scrapbook retail cost value (including photographic materials) does not exceed the amount of US $300. Work done by CNH KIWIN'S Club members such as hand-lettering, artwork, etc., do not need to be included as cost items. Failure to comply with this rule will result in disqualification.

E) Entries shall be submitted to the CNH KIWIN'S Convention desk on April 22 by 9 PM.

F) Pages must be numbered, and a table of contents along with the contest entry form should be at the beginning of the scrapbook.

Non-Traditional/Traditional Scrapbook GUIDELINES

*CONTINUED* The Non-Traditional/Traditional Scrapbook Contest will be conducted according to the following rules:

A) Each traditional scrapbook must be made of pages no larger than 14 x 14 inches (35.5 x 35.5 cm). For digital scrapbooks, PPT, PPTX, ODP and PDF are all supported presentation file types.

B) Suitable awards will be presented to first, second, and third places on the basis of creativity and general content.

C) Judges will deduct five points if the table of contents is missing.

D) The decisions of the judges are final and no changes, alterations or reassessments will take place after the judges and the Chair of Contests and Awards have certified the results.
