AXIS FOUNDATION
CHARITY BALL 2022
fundraising will be split between Demelza Children's Hospice and the Axis FoundationWelcome from
Chairman
Good evening and welcome to the Axis Foundation Charity Ball 2022.
I know that many of you come back to support us each year and we don’t take that for granted and very much value your support. Thank you.
2022 saw a major milestone reached by the Axis Foundation. We celebrated donating a grand total of £2m to 270 small, local impactful causes like those you will see on the later pages of tonight’s programme.
We are massively proud of reaching this £2m landmark and want to thank everyone who has supported us in our 14-year journey of giving: those who tirelessly raise funds for our charity, those who work behind the scenes and those, like yourselves, who have donated so kindly and generously to help us reach this milestone.
My fellow trustees and I know, both through evidence and personal messages of gratitude, that our grants have made a real and lasting impact on people’s lives. We are determined to continue, with your help, offering a lifeline to people who need our support.
Tonight, as ever, we are supporting our friends at Demelza Children’s Hospice as well as raising money for the Foundation so that we can carry on making grants and donations and thereby help us reach another significant target.
I know you will join in the celebrations and support our auctions, table games and raffle this evening. Hopefully there is something on offer to suit every pocket!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our patron Alan Curbishley, my fellow trustees Maurice Gertski, John Hayes, Mick Hayes, Tim Hayes, Joe Ibrahim and Sandie Ryan as well as Axis’s brilliant support team of Claire Richardson, Paul Smart, Kellie Turner and Sarah Hodgson. All of them work very hard on behalf of the Foundation and none of what we have achieved in the past 14 years would have been possible without them.
I would also like to thank Steve Sutherland for once again compering this event and keeping us all on time tonight.
Have a great night and my personal thanks, once again, for helping us achieve our £2m in donations and changing people’s lives for the better!
Peter Varney Chairman Axis FoundationWe’ll Double Your Donation!
Every pound you donate or spend tonight will go twice as far to help small, local and impactful causes!
That’s because the Axis Foundation’s parent company Axis will match-fund the proceeds from tonight’s charity ball.
All the money from tonight will go via the Axis Foundation to help many charities, individuals and community causes.
We truly appreciate your generosity and would like to thank you very much for supporting the Axis Foundation Charity Ball 2022.
£2m Donated
This year, the Axis Foundation is celebrating having donated £2m to 270 small, local and impactful causes in 14 years of giving. With the generous support of our suppliers and subcontractors over the years, we made the £2m moment in July. We could not have done this without you, so a big thank you to everyone here.
Here’s the £2m Moment!
We presented a cheque to Demelza for £89,000 at our 4th Alan Curbishley Axis Foundation Charity Golf Day attended by our suppliers and subcontractors –many of these generous friends are here tonight. This cheque took us to the £2m milestone.
A huge thank you to the team at the Axis Foundation for their on-going support. They are an incredible group of people and their support means so much to the families we work with.

The Axis Foundation is a fantastic charity. You get Ten from Len!
The Trustees of the Axis Foundation and I were delighted to present our cheque for £89,000 to our friend and partner Demelza, particularly as this donation was a special landmark for us, taking our total donations to £2m.
How we got to £2m
I set the Foundation up originally to try and formalise and capture all the elements of ‘Giving’ that we were already doing right across the company, to say it has exceeded my wildest expectations would be a massive understatement
John Hayes: Founder and Trustee, Axis Foundation; CEO, Axis Europe plc
Throughout our 14-year journey, the Foundation has always kept to our remit: to support small, local and impactful causes. We have helped people with disability and life-limiting illnesses; those who are experiencing poverty, loss of mobility, depression, deprivation and addiction; the lonely and the disadvantaged; parents, carers, the elderly, babies and the very young. Each one of our donations is intended to create a positive lasting difference: a hand up, rather than a hand out.
In the community
Some of our long term beneficiaries, like Maypole Project, Swale Gloves and Imber Metz – supporting children with life limiting illness, helping disadvantaged young people and reducing knife crime respectively – have a huge impact in their community.
The future is bright… The assistance given by Axis Foundation will help the communities Imber Metz works with now and in the future a chance to start again.

At home
Other donations have helped an individual desperately in need of comfort and a helping hand.
Mum Kasia applied for her baby Antonio who needed specialist physiotherapy after a diagnosis of a neurological cyst.
“We had not even dreamed about half what we have been donated, we will be forever grateful”
Kasia
Cathy applied for a grant to make Little Isabella's garden wheelchair accessible. Isabella was diagnosed with a severe brain malformation when she was just three months old.
“Isabella loves to feel the wind blowing, it’s one of the things that makes her smile the biggest. For her to simply enjoy the sunshine in a lovely finished garden would be a miracle”
Cathy
Precious Partnership
The Axis Foundation is proud to be charity partner of Demelza Children’s Hospice. Our friendship with Demelza goes back 18 years –all the way to 2004 – before the Foundation was born. Our donation of £6,000 to Demelza Children's Hospice was one of our Foundation's very first donations!
We have supported Demelza’s Bricks and Water appeal to create a Hydrotherapy Centre and we also contributed to building a new hospice in Eltham in south east London opened by Olympic champions and Demelza vice presidents Jayne Torvill and Robin Cousins.
Our current and recent donations all go to provide specialist nurses and expert care. We like to think we bring life to the little patients’ days when there may not be many days left to life.
Foundation Funding Focus
The Axis Foundation supports local and impactful causes, mainly in the areas where our parent company Axis Europe works: primarily in social housing in London, Kent and Essex as well as in Birmingham and Liverpool.
Funds to the Foundation come from our generous suppliers and subcontractors; many fundraising activities and appeals conducted by Axis’ staff and from an annual corporate donation from Axis.

Thank You from Demelza
Axis has been supporting Demelza for more than 18 years donating over £900,000 for our children and families. £707,000 of this has come from the Axis Foundation.
Thanks to the generosity of Axis’ suppliers and subcontractors who have all given so generously at events like tonight’s charity ball and annual golf days, Axis and the Axis Foundation have funded our nurses and our Family Support programmes with siblings and grandparents as well as refurbishing bedrooms for teenagers in our hospices.
We are additionally grateful to all the people who work at Axis who - through their abseils, bike rides, climbs, walks, treks, swims, runs, cake sales - even hair waxes - have raised funds for the Foundation and for Demelza. Axis people help us in many other ways: they’ve volunteered in our gardens, shops and warehouse bringing their skills and professional expertise too.
Our wonderful supporters like Axis and the Axis Foundation are more important to us now than ever and we know that with your help, tonight and across the next year to come, we will continue to serve the children and families who need us.
Demelza provides us with the extra support we need as a family. I’m so glad it’s there.
We can enjoy family activities and meet up with friends at the hospice with access to all the facilities we need.
Lucy loves having a family swim in the hydrotherapy pool and enjoys art therapy and music sessions.
There are almost 90,000 children and young people in England who are living with a condition that means they are likely to die young. This number has tripled over the last 20 years and with advancements in medicine and technology, this number is going to continue to increase. Many need care and support 24 hours a day, seven days a week with constant medical appointments and often gruelling medication and caring regimes.
More about Demelza
As many of you know, Demelza provides expert clinical care and emotional support to children and young people with serious or terminal conditions, and their families, to live the best life they can. Working across Kent, South East London and East Sussex our specialist nursing, care, family liaison, therapist and counselling teams support families when and where it is needed most.
This may be within our residential hospices in Kent or South East London, our hub in East Sussex, online, out in the community or in the family home. We provide a range of services for the whole family including short breaks, therapies, family support, practical volunteer support, end-of-life care, memory making and bereavement support.
Demelza can help to keep children out of hospital or leave hospital sooner; and our specialist nursing and care team can help train parents to meet the complex medical needs of their children with confidence. We can help families to smile, laugh and offer the rare opportunity to relax. And, most importantly, Demelza can help them to be families, enjoying their time together and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Coming to Demelza is something for us to look forward to as a family. Staying here is our only respite so we have a chance to rest and sleep soundly, which is a rarity at home. We can’t thank the team here enough for being so helpful and kind through challenging times.
The True Cost of Living
We’ve all read and started to feel the effects of the cost of living crisis, and for many of the families we support, these increases will bite hard.
The cost of keeping specialist equipment operating night and day, constant use of washing machines to keep a child’s environment spotlessly clean and transport to endless hospital appointments are all going to add additional strain to families already experiencing stressful situations, and they will need Demelza’s help more than ever.
Demelza saved our family’s sanity, we are so grateful for the help
A
Demelza’s services won’t stop. With your support we will continue to be a constant for our families. Our virtual services, our helplines, our therapies and our support will all still be available to the families who need us, and we are as determined as ever to reach more families and achieve our strategic objectives.

Proudly supporting Axis and the Axis Foundation through the development of their leadership and management teams.
This pitched roof project required expert workmanship to form the intersections between the curved lead dormer roof sections. The completed effect meant that the dormers could naturally emerge from the slates to create an aesthetically pleasing finish.
Established in 2014 , initially working on smaller local works, Premier Roofing, on the back of a focus on a personal-touch approach to business, has developed into a company with national coverage.
We jointly work with the manufacturer s to put together a specification that will explain in detail our proposed solution along with details of the guarantee that our client will receive.
Along the way Premier Roofing identified a real need for a roofing contractor who put their client’s requirements at the forefront of the business model. After all, everyone knows the importance of word -ofmouth reputation and the value of repeat business.
A fully maintenance -free waterproofing solution, in the form of the Polyroof Protec System, was installed directly to a leaking terrace area. Premier Property then fitted in high performance composite decking, securely loose laid over the new waterproofing , to provide an attractive and long-lasting finish.
This faith school in northwest London had long suffered from a leaking felt roof. Looking for a cold-applied system that could be fitted during term time, the client turned to Premier Property for a solution. The Polyroof Protec Warm Roof System was chosen for the job at hand, which was fully bonded to the existing coverings for a minimum disruption solutionThank You
