After six days of play, last nine players out of 8569 remained in the field and the commanding chip leader (with almost twice more as the second in chips) was Hossein Ensan. No deals were available during this event On the 301st hand of the final table, he defeated Dario Sammartino heads-up with K♥ K♣ against the 8♠ 4♠ and became the oldest Main Event champion since 1999 at the age of 55 Merit Poker community had an opportunity to compete with Hossein Ensan just a couple of months ago during the May series, and it wasn’t his first appearance in Cyprus.

Antonio Esfandiari, came to Merit Poker in September, 2016 for the Gangsters & Chicago poker series. Esfandiari outplayed more than 300 players in the $5000 buy-in Main Event, and made a deal with Iranian Nariman Yaghmai for $263.000 each. Usually players, especially the online professionals, need some time to adapt to this very different field and more multiway pots based live poker but for Antonio Esfandiari the ride had been smooth from the first shuffle. I am a poker professional with over 8 years of experience. I profitably played online and live, coached poker players and was a mentor and investor for young players during this time. I have experienced many ups and downs, even nursed an idea to quit poker. Having a degree in applied mathematics, I worked as a programmer and always had an option to get a good daily “8-5” job. But I love poker (that wonderful game of 52 cards) too much! Especially live poker, where you can meet people who share same hobby, passion for the game, but whose cultures and paths to success are different. The day I entered Merit Poker room was one of the best in my life. I have been to many different casinos, but to be able to play high stakes in the “home game” like friendly poker community, is amazing and pretty unique. I was so happy to be here that I started posting my own experience from Merit to social media. Actually, it was the start of my real job (once again). Later I got a unique idea - to make Facebook/ Instagram live stream from the final tables, bubbles of the biggest events (mostly being a part of the game, even showing the cards). It is what people these days love to see the most: to be as close as possible to other people‘s lives, to have a real-time experience. These were my ideas last year. But I even wasn’t able to imagine what the end of 2018 could change my life so dramatically (in a good way, of course). The spontaneous decision, taken in November, to spend winter in Cyprus (I am originally from Lithuania, so snow and freezing temperatures are pretty common in winter) gave me the possibility to realize that Merit Poker is much more than just poker festivals. Local tournaments run regularly and people have a chance to spend time behind the poker felt every day. Some recently retired and just enjoy the game, others build their bankrolls for the bigger events during the series or chase their dreams by playing the satellites to advance the Main Event.

An absolutely new experience for me! Meanwhile, the poker series is a totally different story. As one of the local players said: “The Champions league arrives!” Basically, it is true: a couple of months is enough time for good online players to evolve in their game, as part of the players are affected by up and downswings. The daily local routine is a kind of practice, and the festival itself is the real championship. You could say that it is too hard to prepare in such different circumstances but my personal experience and at least four examples in the last year show the real situation (at least three men and a lady won tickets to the Main Events, and all of them ended up winning $80k-$270k).

M I L B U T A S Merit Poker became my daily life

It‘s been a while since I participated in the Main Event final table (almost two years ago was the last one out of three total). I feel it approaching again, as I am consistently improving, and the quality of life (waking up every day to the sunshine, hiking in the mountains and going for a swim in the sea) gives additional motivation and positivity. A couple of years ago, the dream was to win it all, the trophies and money were the main goals (as probably it should be for a poker player). But now beside those, I want to make a live stream while playing the big tournament. To some people it seems to be not the most brilliant idea but sometimes changing the angle a little bit helps to see the things clearer. The dream of making the history drives me through and it is just a matter of time before it comes true.

At the beginning, it was just a temporary decision to stay just for the winter. But the summer has nearly finished and I am deeper into Cyprus (and Merit Poker) than ever. All in all, I feel blessed to be in the right place at the right time and ready for the new chapters (and challenges) of Merit Poker. Merit’te olmaktan çok mutluluk duyduğum için kişisel tecrübelerimi sosyal medyada paylaşmaya başladım. Aslında bu paylaşımlar benim kendi işime de yeniden başlatmama sebep oldu. Bugünlerde sosyal medya üzerindeki birçok insanın en büyük ilgi alanı “tecrübelere canlı ve en yakın şekilde tanıklık” etmektir. Aklıma final masalarını canlı olarak yayınlamak ve turnuvaların en can alıcı fotoğraf karelerini facebook/instagram üzerinde paylaşarak canlı tecrübeleri poker ile ilgilenenlerle paylaşmak geldi. Fakat 2018 yılının sonunda hayatımın bu kadar ani bir şekilde değişeceğini hayal bile edemezdim. Kasım ayında Kıbrıs’ta kış geçirmek için aldığım karar bana Merit Poker’in poker festivallerinden çok daha fazlası olduğunu anlamama imkanı verdi. Yerel turnuvalar düzenli olarak düzenleniyor ve insanlar poker masalarında zamanlarını eğlenceli bir şekilde geçiriyorlar. Burada kaldığım süre içerisinde lokal poker topluluk üyeleri hayatımın büyük bir parçası haline geldi. Yaklaşık 60 kişilik bir grupla birlikte oyuna dahil olup canlı tahminleri yapmak, oyuncuların oyun stillerini ,bir sonraki hamlelerini görmek benim festivaller ile

Günlük olarak düzenlenen lokal turnuvalar pratik gibidir ama poker festivalleri pokerin şampiyonlar ligidir. Bu kadar farklı koşullarda hazırlanmanın ve gelişmenin biraz zor olduğunu düşünebilirsiniz ancak kişisel tecrübelerime dayanarak söyleyebilirim ki sandığınız kadar zor değil. Örneğin; geçen yıl düzenlenen Main Event kazananları en az 3 erkek ve bir kadın poker oyuncusuydu ve 80.000$ ile 270.000$ arası kazandılar. En son final masasına kaldığım günden bugüne nerdeyse 2 yıl geçti. Sürekli kendimi geliştirdiğim ve yaşam kaliteme dikkat ettiğim için yine bir final masası macerasının daha yaklaştığını hissediyorum. Bundan birkaç yıl önce her yeni başlayan poker oyuncusu gibi kupalar ve para kazanmak ilk hedefimken şu anda Main Event şampiyonu olma hayali ilk sırayı aldı. Ama hepsinden önce büyük turnuva sırasında canlı yayın yapmak istiyorum. Bazıları için çok muhteşem bir fikir olarak gelmeyecek olsa da bazen olayı farklı açılardan görmenin bakış açısını geliştireceği inancındayım. Zamanının ne zaman olduğunu bilmesem de, poker tarihinde yer alma hayali beni bu alanda yönlendiriyor. Bu yıl kışı burada geçirme düşüncesi bir anlık alınmış bir karar olsa da şu anda yaz neredeyse bitmek üzere ve ben Merit Poker’e ve Kıbrıs’a daha da bağlandım.

Sonuç olarak, doğru yerde doğru zamanda Merit Poker’de yeni turnuvalara hazır olmaktan mutluluk duyuyorum. Umarım siz de adanın keyfini local turnuvalar arasındaki farkı muazzam biçimde çıkarabilir yada sizler için özel olarak hazırlanmış ayırt edebilmemi sağladı ve bu benim için inanılmaz Merit Poker salonunda bizlere katılır ve gerçek bir bir tecrübeydi. poker turnuvası keyfini bizler ile yaşarsınız! Her poker turnuva serisi kendi içinde farklı bir hikaye içerir. İyi bir poker oyuncusu olabilmek için bir kaç ayınızı canlı oyunların içerisinde geçirmeniz yeterli olacaktır ve sonuç lokal bir poker oyuncusunun söylediği gibi “Şampiyonlar ligi geldi...”
