Dingdong and Marian’s ‘royal wedding’

M

ANILA - TV superstars Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera on Tuesday exchanged wedding vows after more than five years of being a couple. The star-studded ceremony, which was announced in August after Dantes made public his two-year engagement with Rivera, started at exactly 2:28 p.m. at the Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral in Quezon City. The mass was celebrated by eight bishops and seven priests, with President Benigno Aquino III in attendance as Dantes’ best man. Among the 40 principal sponsors were Kris Aquino, Sharon Cuneta, Vilma Santos and Bench founder Ben Chan. The couple had 18 groomsmen, 18 bridesmaids and 25 secondary sponsors, including Ai Ai delas Alas and Richard Gomez. Rivera, who wore a Michael Cinco gown, was brought to the altar by her Spanish father Francisco Alonso and Filipino mother Amalia Rivera. Widely publicized as a “royal wedding,” Dantes and Rivera’s nuptials is the last in a long line of celebrity couples to

get married this year -- following the likes of Jericho Rosales and Kim Jones, Bianca Gonzalez and JC Intal, and Aiza Seguerra and Liza Dino. Rivera, 30, and Dantes, 34, met in 2007 when they co-starred in the local adaptation of “MariMar.” They went on to play sweethearts in several more TV series, including “Dyesebel” in 2008.

2015 Fearless Forecasts and Predictions for some of our Kapamilya love teams

hil si Daniel Padilla is Year of the Pig. Ang pig at ang sheep mag-allies so ang dalawang combination na ito will be very, very good sa 2015.

Family Living Under A Bridge Wins House and Lot in “BET ON YOUR BABY”

A

family living under a bridge receives the best surprise of their lifetime when they won a house and lot in the hit game show, “Bet On Your Baby” on Friday (January 9). The Ilacad family was speechless and beyond happy when game show host Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo revealed that they won the

coveted prize. The Ilacad family currently resides under a bridge in Navotas City and winning the house and lot prize is an answered prayer for 2015. Rolando and Badet Ilacad’s toddler, baby Andot was the baby contestant in the game show of award-winning host Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo. Meanwhile, Juday herself tried to

keep the tears at bay during the heartwarming winning moment. According to the host, winning the house and lot was very timely because last week, “Bet On Your Baby” featured families who are illegal settlers due to their lack of decent living. “It feels so good to become an instrument of change and happiness that day. We’re very thankful that we were able to give incredible happiness to the Ilacad family this 2015,” Juday shared. A lot of lives have been changed by “Bet On Your Baby.” To date, the P1 million grand prize has been snagged by 10 families while two families won the elusive house and lot prize.

Andiyan si Kim, she has a career, plus everything is going well,” he shared. Echo admitted that the most difficult scene he did for the indie film was an intimate one. “Yung dulo na eksena isa siya sa pinakamahirap na eksena na ginawa ko sa lahat kasi yung end scene namin, with the accent and the emotions, iba siya eh. Yung last scene ko sa pelikula yung may love scene kami ni Mercedes (Cabral) kasi awkward talaga ako pag sa love scene eh. Tawa kami ng tawa dun sa set. Lima lang kami dun pero tawa kami ng tawa. Mahirap siya gawin eh. Kailangan artistic yung pagkagawa mo. Tapos may love, may feeling, madaming nanunuod, mainit. Hindi talaga siya perfect. May nanunuod, may nakikinig sa labas, may gustong mangboso,

yung mga ganun. Yun yung hindi ninyo alam eh,” he recalled. After winning Best Actor awards in the past, Echo said he does not accept projects with the goal of going for a trophy anymore. “Tinanggal ko yung ganung mentalidad pagdating sa projects kasi nakaka-pressure lang yun. It’s actually mali na nag-start ka gumawa kasi gusto mo manalo ng award and then you lose the fun. Mawawala yung joy kasi para kang nanganganak ng disappointment because pag nabuntis ka ng expectation and then nanganak ng disappointment ang hirap di ba?” he explained.

The 35-year-old actor shared how he copes with the constant pressure of delivering a good performance especially after he became a New York Festival awardee for Dahil May Isang Ikaw in 2011. “Makapal mukha ko sa set. Gusto ko quiet, kung magsisigaw ako dun. Kung meron akong time with my co-actor, bubunotin ko yung co-actor ko, sasabihin ko dito tayo usap tayo. For me it’s the right

of every actor na maintindihan mo yung script whether you’re a beginner or not. That’s where you’ll get the respect of other people. Kailangan mong maging professional and alamin mo kung ano yung kailangan mo as an actor. Kasi at the end of the day, binabayaran ka para mag-deliver,” he said.

Iñigo Pascual reveals reason why he turned down being part of a US boyband

by: Kristhoff Cagape

ñigo Pascual, son of movie and tv idol Piolo Pascual, is set to star in an upcoming Wansapanataym series with Julia Barretto titled Wish Upon a Lusis. The young actor said that he was really ecstatic about the series finally airing on TV. “Sobrang saya, I’m happy that it’s going to be showing. It’s my second TV project so I’m really excited for this and

we’ll be able to do more in 2015 and I’m looking forward to it.” With a new show and a promising year ahead, Iñigo is happy with his decision to stay in the Philippines and to have turned down the offer of being part of a boyband in the US. He admitted that it was hard at first to reject the boyband offer. “I’ve talked to may parents about it before turning it down. I had

I’m excited for that,” he stated. He relayed that he would be playing the character of a superstar in the series. “Character ko dito is si JD, isa siyang singer, isang superstar, international singer tapos he’s from the States and parents niya separated and everything he does work lang, ‘yun lang ginagawa niya sa buhay niya so that’s where Joy’s character comes in, si Julia (Barretto), she’s an orphan. Basically the story is mainly about Joy. So parang ano we’re both searching for happiness and we’re both searching for love and for something to hold on to,” he shared. Iñigo remarked that working with Julia was really easy and fun. “She’s so much fun to be with, very humble, very outgoing, that’s how I describe her kasi she’ll talk to you about everything and she won’t let you feel uncomfortable at all. We’ve done a lot of projects together and hopefully

really had a hard time deciding if I would stay here or with the band and I like had sleepless nights because I wanted to be with the band but also I wanted to be here with my parents, you know, it was a hard decision like we just decided not to do it anymore because I wanted to spend time with my dad,” he shared. Iñigo said that he turned

down the offer mainly because he doesn’t want to be away from his parents. “The contract was seven years and I would be housed with the other guys on it so I’d be stuck, I won’t be able to go away if it’s my dad’s birthday and I’d be stuck. And another thing is my studies. My school and I didn’t think I would be able to focus on my studies as well or have enough time to do it if I would be with the band and also because the contract is just… I don’t want to speak bad about the contract but let’s just say it wasn’t the best choice for me in this point of my life.” ARTISTA WINNIPEG january 2015 ISSUE

Bret Jackson admits to being in love with Andi Eigenmann

A

by: Rhea Manila Santos

fter keeping the public guessing as to whether they are or aren’t yet a couple, former Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition housemate Bret Jackson admits he and Andi Eigenmann are spending more time together now, especially since they are currently filming the movie Your Place or Mine set for release early this year.

The 22-year-old actor adds they enjoyed spending New Year’s eve together. Bret says he and Andi didn’t actually make any plans that day. “I just wanted to do something special. She told me kasi that she’s usually out for New Year’s so sabi ko, ‘Why don’t we just try staying in? No people, fireworks, parang wholesome lang, ganun,” he shares when he attended the Tragic Theater premiere held last January 7 at SM Megamall. Despite all the controversy hounding their relationship, including Jacklyn Jose being vocal about her dislike of Bret, he says that has never stopped him from pursuing Andi. “Siyempre, it’s very complicated pero that doesn’t mean that you give up. Siyempre life is complicated. I like everything about Andi, she’s so strong of a person. Andi is an amazing woman. People just don’t know how strong she is. I get so upset whenever I hear bad things about her in the news because people really don’t know her. They don’t know how great of a person she really is. Will I fight for her? I always have and I would always siyempre. Kahit anong mangyari, I know that we’ll always be friends. I don’t feel anything bad towards Jake. Life moves on. It doesn’t mean na may intention siya bumalik na he’s coming back. It’s up to Andi in the end di ba? So ganun,” he explains. Even though they have yet to admit that they are more than just friends, the photos they share in their social media accounts show a clearer picture of just how close they are. “I really feel like she’s one of my closest friends. Parang both of us can go to each other and tell each other pretty much anything and be okay with it. And I’ve been there for her and she’s been there for me likewise. We’re dating I guess. Sometimes we go out together, if that’s the term for dating. Pero what I want to her to

P 12

know is that I want her to really focus. I don’t want her to think about another relationship. I just want her to know that I’m here for her and that I want her to become the person that I know she can be. I want her to focus on her movies, her career, Ellie, lahat,” he shares. When asked if he is in love right now, Bret doesn’t hesitate to admit it. “I can say that. I am. I’m not shy about saying that but at the same time I don’t want people taking it the wrong way. I feel really close to her like that and I don’t want people to take it out of context. If I say that I love her I don’t want you guys to think that I’m just saying it like that. I actually care about Andi. I really care about her,” he says. Although Andi has also been vocal about not wanting to rush into anything romantic this year, Bret says he has no problem waiting for the right time with her. “I hope she is (taking it slow). That’s fine with me. I want her to take everything slow. I just want her to focus on her herself, building herself. That’s no problem with me. I just hope that we keep pushing forward in the direction that we’re going, that we just keep getting closer and closer. I just hope it keeps going that way,” he reveals. Bret even admits that unlike most guys, he is actually drawn to Andi more because she is a single mom. “That’s very true. I mean, I came from a broken family din so parang I respect anyone who has the courage to bring a child up on their own and then Andi is an amazing mother. Ellie is so wow, she’s an amazing kid. So obedient, she’s so smart, everything. She gets it all from Andi,” he admits. Apart from being a responsible parent, Bret says he likes a lot of things about Andi. “Too many to list (laughs). She’s so smart, like she really is. Lahat ng conversations naming, like we keep up with each other. We can talk about anything for

hours, ganun,” he comments. Despite the mixed reactions from people online, Bret says he and Andi are unfazed. “Before you judge anyone, take a look at yourself. Ganun lang. if they really took the chance to really know the whole history of Andi, they would think of her very differently,” he says. For Valentine’’s day, the Fil-Am actor says he wants to make it as unforgettable as their New Year’s eve together. “Actu-

ally I’m cooking something up also so abangan niyo (laughs). My ideal Valentines day is

just old school, candlelight dinner, flowers, chocolates, basic. I’m old fashioned kasi.”

Add This One Thing to Your New Year’s Financial Goals

B

y now, you may already been bombarded by articles and videos on how to set goals for 2015. But have you applied what you’ve read or seen? Did you get to sit down with your spouse and actually write down your goals or created your vision board or however else you call it? Have you looked into the mirror and talked yourself out to succeed this year? It’s the new year anyway, so this is the perfect time to do so. Let me help jog your memory on some of the financial goals worth setting plus one thing most of us forget. 1. Pump up your savings. Majority of us will make this as our default goal. It may not be the easiest but anyone can start saving. To help you stick to this plan, why not set up a pre-authorized deduction from your bank? This way, whatever you don’t see fattens up your savings buck! Start with 10% of your income. 2. Pay off debts. According to research, consumer debts (such as credit card debts) in Canada are not getting any bet-

P 24

ter. Don’t be part of the statistics. Start paying off your higher-interest cards and make mini-celebrations once you’ve paid one --- but not incurring another debt to do so, of course! There are some ways to minimize debts effectively. Talk to debt experts. 3. Revisit your spending. This may not be that comfortable for some because it may mean scrimping on things they love to buy. But this is not about totally eliminating that hot and creamy coffee handed to you artistically by your favorite barista; this just means proactively knowing where your money comes from and goes to and then, make necessary adjustments. You may find out frequent eat outs may be replaced by a brown bag lunch once in a while. It takes discipline to do this but it is very doable. You can do it!

you savings as it gives tax write-off benefits. Contact this author for additional information on how to start a business with an affordable capital outlay. 5. Ensure proper protection for you or your loved ones. Some Filipinos I talked to (especially the newcomers in Canada) are not that familiar on what this is all about. Proper protection means making sure that you or your loved ones have the right amount of life or health insurance coverage so that in the event of death, sickness or disability, life goes on --- kids continue schooling, bill payments are uninterrupted and lifestyle is not drastically changed. Talking to a licensed professional with access to different companies is your best bet. These are unbiased agents, they can shop around the market and therefore, provide the best products at the right price, all for your best interest.

4. Seek other sources of income. Let’s face it, when finances are really bogging you or your loved ones down it’s high time to seek additional sources of income such as a part-time job or a new business opportunity. The latter gives

6. Learn, Re-learn, Unlearn. Learn all you can in the proper handling of finances. Read books. Attend seminars. Pray for wisdom. Talk to experts on different financial fields, don’t rely on just one. Re-learn things that work for you

ARTISTA WINNIPEG january 2015 ISSUE

and see how you can make these work better. There are also bad financial habits that we have built over the years such as impulsive buying, not being able to say “No!” or buying more stuff --- it’s not too late to unlearn and break these habits that do not do you any good. The time to start is always now! 7. Tithe and Give Back. This is the one thing worth adding. Tithe literally means 10% and it dates back to God’s rule for his people. This is a biblical exhortation to make offerings to the Lord with an accompanying promise. Chapter 3 verse 10 in the book of Malachi reads “Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.” Isn’t that a hope-giving promise?! Give what you can with a joyful heart in keeping with your income, giving back to God what is rightfully his and acknowledging His being first in our lives. Have a Meaningful and Blessed year 2015! REFLECTIONS By Dr. Jun Vencer

I

THE EIGHT COMMANDMENT: PART III “You shall not steal” – Exodus 20:15

n the concluding part of these reflections on the 8th Commandment, I will deal with some of the consequences to the breakers of the commandments. These consequences are not just theoretical but also experiential, even common knowledge to us all. A. THE CONSEQUENCES OF BREAKING THE COMMANDMENT 1. The person who steals causes heartaches, painful suffering and economic hardship for the victim. We dehumanize him. We steal from him what God gave to him – thus stealing from God. 2. The person who steals the wife or husband of another causes families to be torn apart. It results in unbelievable pain to the spouse and children and even if forgiven, it will never be the same again. 3. The person who steals eventually will become poor himself (Pr. 22:16). He will lose everything and prove that he is a fool (Jer. 17:11).. 4. The man who steals has shown that he has forgotten God (Ezk. 22:12). He doesn’t trust His promises or His provisions. 5. The man who steals cannot be trusted with greater responsibility. Unless a man is faithful in small matters, he cannot be faithful in larger ones. 6. The man who does not give what belongs to God, robs God (Mal. 3:10). 7. He is a follower of Satan, the thief, liar and deceiver (Jn. 10:10). BUT IF ONE DOES NOT STEAL, THEN … 8. He will be constantly in the presence of God and He will care for him (Heb. 13:5). His labor will be profitable (Prov. 13:11). 9. He will have eternal treasures in heaven (Matt. 6:19-20). 10. He will bear a strong witness for the Lord (Ti. 2:10). Paul says that “… he shall have the respect of the outsider and not dependent on others” (1 Thes. 4:12). 11. People will trust him with more for the Kingdom of God. JV: Good Tidings Foundation. 12. What we measure to others, will be measured to us (Lk. 6:38). APPLICATIONS A. The 8th C was given with the despoiling of the Egyptians still fresh in their memory of the Israelites. That was not to be a precedent for that was on the basis of just reprisal for years of unpaid labor as slaves. B. Paul tells us that there are three ways to get wealth: you work for it, it is given to you (gift and inheritance), or steal it, and stealing is wrong. C. “Steal no more” (Eph. 4:28). We feel uncomfortable, even surprised, that Paul wrote this to the church in Ephesus. Repentance is needed and true repentance demands restitution. CASE: Zacchaeus, the tax collector (Lk. 19:8). He returned four times, an OT precedent – four sheep to one (Ex. 22:1). In those times, when a thief is caught, he was not brought to jail – so he pays back the victim. Today, we send the thief to jail, so that he can learn how to become a better thief from the other convicted thieves and not to get caught. D. Work hard. The Apostolic rule is: If a man will not work, he shall not eat (1 Thes. 3:10). Don’t be poor so that one can provide for his family, pay his taxes, support the work of God, and give to those who are needy. God hates laziness (Prov. 6:10-11) for it results in poverty, and then it moves to stealing (Prov. 30:8-9). NB: In Context, the rule was against the practice of Christians not working anymore and becoming disrespectful of civil authorities because the Lord was coming soon. Not stealing is no virtue if we are miserly or mean. E. Be content with what you have (Eph. 4:28) or greed will drive you to get more and it becomes an idolatry. Remember the stern warning of Jesus: You cannot serve God or money. F. “Everything I give, I declare that money doesn’t control me. Perpetual generosity is a perpetual de-deification of money” – Kent Hughes. Only then will we worship God and not Money. Deut. 15:10. G. Savoranola (Reformer from Italy). “What must a man possess who possesses the Possessor of all things.” H. God allotted an inheritance for his people (Ps. 78:55; 16:5-6; 1 Pet. 2:9; Hab. 3:17-18). The Holy Spirit in every believer is His down payment, His engage ring for His bride (Jn. 17:6; 10:27-30). The longer I stay in ministry the more I realize the faithfulness of God when He said of Aaron’s inheritance “I am your share” (Nu. 18:20). I. There is hope for all. When we consider all the cases covered by the 8th

Commandment, hardly is there anyone who is not guilty in one form or another. Our hope is in Christ Jesus who symbolically died between thieves. One rejected Him and went to hell while the other accepted Him and went to paradise with Him. Amen. Dingdong Dantes speaks up on wedding expenses

W

by: Maureen Marie Belmonte

eeks after their very lavish nuptial, the “royal wedding” of Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera is still a hot topic . While some thought that the event was lovely, some quarters thought that it was “thoughtlessly extravagant.” Some have even suggested that the money could’ve just been shared with the impoverished sector.

Such remarks stemmed from reports that Marian’s wedding gown, which was made by Dubai-based Filipino designer Michael Cinco, amounted to a staggering P2 million. While the total amount spent for the wedding remains undisclosed, Dingdong in an earlier interview admitted that he was really the one who shelled out money for the wedding. “Ako kasi ang thinking ko kasi diyan itong araw na ito is really for her and it’s for the sake of our families. But it’s really more for her. I really want it as a gift para sa kanya. So dapat lang naman talaga [na ako ang gumastos],” he explained. But as with several celebrity weddings, reports of supplier sponsorship also surfaced. Yeng Constantino, who is set to tie the knot next month, openly and unabashedly ad-

kino-consider na rin pala ni Jason Abalos, who is playing the role of Victor in the teleserye Two Wives, ang paglagay sa tahimik o pagpapakasal. Bale last 2013 pa ‘yon, two years na ngayon (2015). Janu-

mitted that she and fiance Yan Asuncion won’t be spending a single peso for their much-awaited union in Batangas. To this, Dingdong explained, “Sabihin nalang natin na meron kaming mga naging kaibigan even before this and they are helping us in so many ways. Hindi naman pupwedeng sabihin na dole out 100% dahil negosiyo rin nila ‘yan eh and at the same time kaibigan rin namin sila.” He added, “Siguro isipin na lang natin na nagtutulungan kami, in the same way na tinutulungan nila kami sa mga needs namin. And sana makatulong rin kami sa kanila in the future in what way or means possible.” Seeing that he was able to spend a lot for their wedding last December 30 at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral

Church, many presumed that Dingdong had been saving for their much-awaited event for a while now. But Dingdong refused to see it that way “Kasi when you say you’re saving up parang you’re putting a limitation on it eh. “Sabihin natin kung nangyari ito 12 years ago, kung ano man ang meron ako I would give it everything as long as alam ko ma-exhaust ko lahat to make her happy,” the Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles actor and producer said. With that he emphasized that “parang nagiging relative lang kung gaano karami o gaano kamahal ang pwedeng maibigay mo para mapasaya siya. “Pero the truth is ‘yung mga simpleng bagay naman talaga ‘yun ang pinakamahalaga,” he ended.

“Oo, nakaka-miss mag-indie.

As an actor, kahit anong komprontasyon mo sa babae, dapat under ka pa rin… I want to be like him kapag nag-asawa na ako at naging tatay na,” sabi pa ni Jason.
