Forevermore” lead stars Enrique Gil at Liza Soberano are both grateful because of how ABS-CBN’s top-rating romantic drama series changed their lives and careers. Their gratitude is made more poignant now that the finale episode of “Forevermore” will be aired on May 22 (Friday). “We are very thankful for all the viewers who followed the love story of Xander (Enrique) and Agnes (Liza). The success of ‘Forevermore’ inspired me more to work and to become a better actor,” said Enrique. “‘Forevermore’ brought a huge change in my life. Aside from getting the recognition from viewers, this series helped me discover a lot of things about myself and showbiz,” said Liza. When asked about what fans and viewers should watch out for in the last two weeks of “Forevermore,” Liza said that everyone will surely love the finale. “They’ll find out if Agnes and Xander will end up together, and if true love really lasts,” she added. Since it aired in October 2014, “Forevermore” has consistently won the hearts of TV viewers and dominated the national TV ratings game because of the gripping love story of the characters of Enrique and Liza, who are now preparing for their movie under Star Cinema titled “The Bet.” Further proving the success of the series is the popularity of the tourist spot in Sitio Pungayan in Sto. Tomas, Benguet, which is now more known as La Presa, the place where Xander and Agnes fell in love ARTISTA WINNIPEG aPRIL 2015 ISSUE

REFLECTIONS By Dr. Jun Vencer
FATHERHOOD AND NATION BUILDING
S
atan has declared war on the Marriage and the Family. Steve Farrar (Point Man) has identified the Satanic strategies in this war: (1) alienation of husband from his wife; (2) alienation of father from his children; and (3) the loss of headship by the husband in the family. Social analysis tells us that these strategies are winning the war. Increasing divorces and cohabitations without marriages are on the rise. More children are growing up without knowing their biological fathers or are living in dysfunctional families with absentee fathers. Teenagers are getting pregnant in alarming numbers. The headship of husbands is opposed because it is misunderstood as a domination or superiority of the male. Headship is about authority and office instituted by God in the family. It is to be exercised lovingly and sacrificially as unto the Lord. It calls the husband to accountability by God for his family just as God called Adam to accountability in the garden (Gen. 1:9). If the family is destroyed, society will implode. In the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, completed in 1787, Edward Gibbon, lists the following reasons for the fall: 1. The rapid increase in divorce; the undermining of dignity and sanctity of home, which is the basis of human society. 2. Higher and higher taxes and the spending of public money for free bread …. 3. The mad craze for pleasure, sports becoming more brutal every year…. 4. The building of gigantic armaments … the decadence of the people. 5. The decay of religion - faith fading into more form …. Arnold Toynbee, the British historian, had written: “Out of 21 civilizations preceding this one, 19 of them have been destroyed by a mixture of atheism, materialism, socialism, and alcoholism.” How relevant are these factors to America today? Many prophetic writers are asking the question why the United States, the most powerful nation in the world today, is not explicitly mentioned in the last days? Some suggest that in the last days the United States has lost its world power by factors from within. Speculation? But if America is not trusting in God anymore, will God continue His blessings? George Santayana said, “Those who refuse to learn from history are condemned to repeat it.” But then Hegel also said, “History teaches us that man learns nothing from history.” Are we learning? God’s plan for the world was to be carried out through a family in Adam and Eve. Adam chose Eve over God and tragedy came to mankind. The generations after them became idolaters. God destroyed the world through the great deluge and a new start began with another family – that of Noah. The following generations failed. Then God called another family – Abraham and Sarah. To Abraham, the husband, God promised: “I will make you into a great nation … and all the peoples on earth will be blessed through you” (Gen. 12:2,3). Leon Kass (The Beginning of Wisdom) wrote: “Central to the national and political beginnings of the Israelite people is the right ordering of family relations: God’s new nation must rest on firm familial ground.” The promise was conditional. Abraham “Father of Multitudes” was called to walk before God blameless (Gen. 17:1,2). We are in Abraham and we, too, are required to walk before God as a necessary pre-requisite to fully enjoy His Contract of Blessing. Our Lord Jesus taught His disciples that He takes pre-eminence over father or mother or sons or daughters (Mat 10:37). Will his disciples lose their loved ones and possessions for His sake? Not so! When the Lord commanded believers to seek first the kingdom of God (Matt. 6:33) He also gave the assurance that He will add to the blessings their “homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields (Mk. 10:30). Douglas Wilson, a theologian, observed that fathers are not included in the enumeration because God is speaking to husbands. Restore Biblical headship and fatherhood in the family, and trust God to keep His promise to bless the families and the nations. Amen. ung si Xian Lim ang Mr. Right ni Kim Chiu, itinuturing din ni Xian na si Kim ang kanyang Ms. Right. “Sabi ko nga, parang naunahan niya ako. Sana gumawa na rin ako ng Ms. Right, ‘di ba? I think she is (Ms. Right). She has all the characteristics of an ideal girlfriend,” pasabog agad niyang pahayag sa Push.com.ph. May effort din daw siya para ipakitang si Kim na nga ang Ms. Right sa kanya. “Palagi kong pinapakita ang aking pagmamahal in all my efforts, siyempre may kasama na yung pagmamahal, parang walang laman pag walang pagmamahal. “Aside from working with them (Vilma and Angel), alam kong marami akong matututunang aral dito.

Making the story more interesting are characters portrayed by multitalented actors and actresses: Pauleen Luna as Pearl Sy-Tanchingco, Jade’s sister-inlaw, married to Jade’s brother Gabriel. She is secretly jealous of her in-laws’ attention for Jade. Paolo
Contis as Anton Maceda, a guy who comes from an old rich family. Oscar’s family didn’t approve of their relationship but when she gave birth to Jade, she is finally accepted and is treated as part of the family and she will do anything to keep it that way; Tony Mabesa as Angkong/John Tanchingco, the patriarch of the family. His favorite grand child is Jade and he will do everything for her. I wish to salute you everyday for gracefully carrying our gift. A clear preamble of how you’ll be when that day comes. From today, and all succeeding years hereafter, you will be recognized for this new remarkable designation. I’m proud of you. Happy Mother’s Day!
Exciting kasi nabigyan siya ng show like Your Face Sounds Familiar which is doing really well. I’m sure marami pang ibibigay na projects sa kanya,” she said. Dawn said she would also welcome the idea of working with Sharon again since they already did a movie together in the ‘80s with Tonton Gutierrez. “Of course it will always be nice to work with Sharon again. We will wait sa mga bossing natin sa network, sila naman nagde-decide dun,” she added.
With her svelte figure, it’s no wonder Dawn is still receiving offers to endorse beauty brands. But the 46-year-old actress said she has just learned the art of aging gracefully. “Marami bumabati sa laki ng pinagbago ng katawan ever since I had children, marami nagtatanong, ‘How do you do it, do you go on a diet?’ And I share with them my experience. Sa edad kong ito marami na rin akong friends who have the same problems how to stay slim or lose weight after child-bearing years. Whenever there’s an opportunity I give them advice,” she shared.

Your favorite Celebrities: What kind of work they do before they became famous
D
espite challenges, hard work pays off. PUSH paid tribute to the stars who started from humble beginnings and eventually became the famous celebrities they are
today. Jericho Rosales was once a fish vendor and a personal driver.
Jericho “Echo” Vibar Rosales was discovered on the television program Eat Bulaga! via its segment Mr. Pogi in 1996. His story was an ever inspiring rags to riches one. Jericho has made no secret of his roots as a fish vendor. He is, in fact, proud of it. As a child, he used to help his mother, who was a fish vendor, sell at a public market. As he grew older, he did more odd jobs, from being a service crew at a pizza fast food chain to a driver. He is now a renowned actor and singer plus an endorser for various brands. He is one of the lead stars of ABS-CBN’s teleserye Bridges of Love and is happily married to model Kim Jones. Coco Martin was a caregiver in Canada. After working as a waiter at a restaurant, like many Filipinos, Coco left the country in search of greener pastures. A graduate of Hotel and Restaurant Management, Coco hoped that he would be able to help his family by working in Canada. He tried to secure a visa working as a caregiver but it wasn’t long before Coco would of course realize that his true calling was to become an actor. Coco Martin is now one of ABS-CBN’s prized talents and a Gawad Urian Award-winning actor. He became famous for starring in independent films, and was dubbed the “Prince of Philippine Independent Films”. Vice Ganda was a bottled water vendor.
Vice Ganda knew what his talent was, and that was to make people laugh with his quick wit. He worked with this talent, never giving up, until he captured the hearts of many Filipinos. Vice is vocal about his past, sharing anecdotes of how he grew up in Tondo, including selling bottled water during the 1995 World Youth Day. Vice is now a television presenter, endorser, actor, and recording artist. He is one of It’s Showtime’s regular hosts and has starred in several films, four of which are considered the highest-grossing films in Philippine cinema. Isko Moreno was a
garbage collector. Before he became an actor, Isko Moreno found alternative sources of income at the age of 10 by pushing a cart and going house-to-house to gather old newspapers and used bottles, then reselling them at a local junk dealer. He also rummaged through restaurant garbage bins for leftover food, which his mother would cook for dinner. Isko is now Vice Mayor of Manila and is being considered by the
Liberal Party to run for Senator in 2016. Nora Aunor sold water and peanuts at a train station. Nora Aunor, for all the fame and recognition she has today, also came from humble beginnings. ñigo Pascual said that he immediately became friends with Julia Barretto and that they really got comfortable with each other easily when they first met. “The first time I met Julia parang she’s far from what I expected parang I didn’t know how to approach her. I mean nothing bad pero I didn’t expect her to be so downto-earth and so humble na I didn’t expect her to ask me to hang out with her right away na parang we were already talking about hanging out and we had common friends so it was just really fast and we became super close.” Even when he was still in the United States, Iñigo shared that he used to talk to Julia already. “And when nasa States pa ako, I would tell her I really wanted to be an actor but at that time my dad was really not letting me and I had so many insecurities and she’s the one who was telling me na ‘You can’.
Even until now she helps me in a lot of stuff pag natatakot ako, when I’m nervous even when it comes to talking.” Iñigo revealed the qualities he admires the most about the young actress. “The best thing about her, she’s like I think someone you can talk to about anything and someone you can trust a lot about your life like and since she comes from the same background, we’re going through the same thing. S
by: Leo Bukas
“Well, definitely ayaw niya akong magshow o gumawa ng soap opera. Kasi ngayon pa lang, ayaw na niya. Nakakarinig na ako ng ‘hindi ka ba puwedeng mag-resign diyan.’ Kasi inaabot talaga ako ng madaling araw sa taping. “Ang point niya lang naman is parang hindiko naman daw kailangan [magtrabaho], pero siyempre kailangan ko. Siya hindi niya kailangan, tapos na siya dito, eh, ako kailangan ko,” natatawa niyang kuwento.
“He respects that naman. Buti nga, meron na akong cut-off ngayon sa taping after 15 years. “Ako naman, feeling ko pag nagkaanak ako, it will be pure joy to just stay at home and just take care of our baby. Sabi ko nga ‘di ba, sobrang hilig ko talaga sa baby. “’Yung pag-stop sa showbiz, hindi naman siguro completely. Puwede pa rin sigurong mag-Bulaga pag weekend... Ewan ko, let’s cross the bridge when we get there. Ha-ha-ha,” kaswal niyang pahayag. Nagkakaroon pa ba sila ng lovers quarrel o LQ ni Bossing? “Ngayon wala na,” sagot agad niya. “ Noon siguro, yung mga first two years, oo. Pero ngayon wala na... parang kilala na namin ang isa’t isa,” susog pa niya. “Pag alam mong maiinis siya sa ‘yo, sa gagawin mong ‘yon, ‘wag mo nang gagawin, ‘di ba? Kilala n’yo na ang isa’t isa, eh. Alam na rin naming amuin ang isa’t isa... So ‘yon,” paliwanag pa ng aktres.

CHARO SANTOS-CONCIO Named One of the Most Influential Female Industry Personalities by Adobo Magazine
A
BS-CBN president and CEO Charo Santos-Concio has been chosen by Adobo magazine as one of “the most influential female industry personalities” in the Philippines and across the region. In its 9th anniversary issue, Adobo magazine published its first-ever “Women of Influence,” where Santos-Concio was listed as among the 20 “fine, fresh, fierce” women executives and personalities. “I am extremely thankful to have the chance to lead a company whose core is to provide service. In the words of Kapitan (former ABS-CBN chairman emeritus Eugenio Lopez, Jr.): It is an opportunity to render public service without being in public office,” she told Adobo magazine. “ABS-CBN is in business to serve our public. Impeccable service is our corporate philosophy. It may be altered, dimensionalized and expressed in varying consumer-oriented communications executions, but it must remain oriented towards the very public that supports and sustains us,” she added. As the first female president of the largest media conglomerate in the country, she considers “sustaining the corporate growth and leadership momentum that ABS-CBN chairman Eugenio Lopez III has started, and continuing to create worldclass content that can be applied in various platforms” her mission. When Adobo asked Santos-Concio what experience has helped shape her into the woman she is today, she cited civil rights activist Harriet Tubman, who said: “Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” In 2014, Santos-Concio bagged three international honors for her outstanding leadership and accomplishments as the president and CEO of ABS-CBN.
She won the Gold Stevie Award in the Female Executive of the Year in Asia, Australia, or New Zealand category at the prestigious Stevie Awards for Women in Business; the Gold Stevie Award for the Woman of the Year category for all
Asia-Pacific nations (except Australia and South Korea) at the 2014 Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards; and was named Asian Media Woman of the Year by ContentAsia, a premier information resource that covers the entertainment media industry across AsiaPacific region. Santos-Concio, who completed an Advanced Management Program at the Harvard University, was appointed CEO in January 2013. Prior to this, she was ABSCBN’s president and chief operating officer since 2008. She was previously the head of Channel 2 Mega Manila Management. Onscreen, she hosts ABS-CBN’s longest-running drama anthology “Maalaala Mo Kaya.” She began her career in ABSCBN as a television production consultant in 1987 after working as a line producer for BanCom, Audiovision, Vanguard Films, Regal Films, and Vision Exponents. She also worked as a film production manager for the Experimental Cinema of the Philippines.
