Tucson Maintenance Mania ‘superstar’ For the past four years, Eli Montes has participated in Tucson’s Maintenance Mania competition. In 2017 he was a runner-up in the region, but fell a little short on time to qualify at the national level. What a difference a couple of years make. Eli, 31, a native of Tucson, advanced to this year’s NAA National Maintenance Mania competition, which was contested June 28 at Apartmentalize 2019 in Denver. He has been with Quarterpenny Management at The Woods Apartments for five years. Eli works in both maintenance and leasing at the rental community on Tucson’s Southwest side.

I’d like to thank our trade show committee for its hours of dedication in putting together such a great event. NAA 2019 Apartmentalize Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the National Apartment Association’s annual Apartmentalize conference that took place in Denver in June. This is our industry’s largest event, attracting more than 10,000 attendees from around the country. Outside of the trade show and general sessions, we were treated to more than 85 breakout sessions, “braindates,” and much more. Many of our leaders from around the country were in attendance. Summer’s in full swing. Luckily, so is our HVAC rebate program. Up to 50% of energy costs comes from HVAC systems. To save money, keep residents comfortable and avoid headaches later, work with an APS Qualified Contractor. From installation to regular maintenance, these professionals can ensure your HVAC system is running as efficiently as possible. Don’t wait until summer is over, have your system checked today. And ask about our $180 rebate for switching out old inefficient units.
For a list of APS Qualified Contractors who can offer our HVAC rebate, visit aps.com/multifamily or call (855) 733-1117.

A TRUE AUTHORITY ON HOUSING AMA Board Member Gloria Muñoz an advocate and champion for Arizona residents as a member of three housing entities By Peter Madrid For almost 40 years, Gloria Muñoz has been a steward for the Valley’s housing community. While she wears several different hats, each represents an organization that plays an important role in the entire community. Muñoz is Executive Director of the Housing Authority of Maricopa County (HAMC), a position she has held for 10 years. She is also the Board Chair for the Arizona Housing Coalition. For the past 5 years, she has been a Board Member with the Arizona Multihousing Association. How important is it to the residents of Maricopa County that her agency has a voice within the AMA? “For me it’s important to stay very, very connected to the apartment industry and to know what’s going on,” Muñoz says. “It impacts our relationships in this community. What’s up down in Tucson AMCF Big Hearts Bowl-A-Thon: The Rockstar in the Alley Party The first AMCF Big Hearts Tucson Bowl-AThon was held on Friday, June 14, at Fiesta Lanes. The committee changed things up this year and decided to combine the Kick Off Party & After Party into one mega fundraiser called “The Party.” It was a great turnout with more than 39 sold lanes and more than 300 people in attendance. This event was a huge success and raised more money than both parties previously combined. Bowlers networked and played Bowling Bingo for a chance to win great prizes. The silent auction was a huge success. Thanks to all of our supporters and donors for this incredible event benefiting AMCF.
