Ways to bond with YOUR NEWBORN
Whether you feel an instant connection with your newborn baby or not, you’ll need to actively foster that bond. It’s perfectly normal to feel a bit scared when your baby is first born and while you might know you love her, you might not feel like you expected to. That will soon change and with some bonding activities, you’ll soon feel close to your new baby. You can strengthen the bond between you and baby by doing the following things.

Feeding time
While breastfeeding often creates and cements an instant bond. If you’re bottle feeding, you can still get close to baby in the same ways as you would for breastfeeding. With breastfeeding, skin to skin contact is always recommended. If you’re using a bottle, simply lift up your shirt and allow baby’s skin to come into contact with the skin on your stomach. It will allow you both to experience that same bond. Gazing in your baby’s eyes while she gaze back allows your baby to feel safe and comforted as well.
2 Wear your baby
Using a carrier or sling is great for keeping hands-free when baby is small and needs constant contact. Babies develop a strong connection with their moms by being close. Sometimes though, we have other things we need to do and by carrying baby in a hands-free way, it satisfies both needs. Plus, you’ll often find a fussy baby will calm right down and even fall fast asleep while securely strapped to you.

Play together
Just like with keeping a running dialogue going, reading to your baby has incredible benefits. The sound of your voice, the pictures, the words and the details will all come together for her soon enough. She’ll also learn to love story time and reading, which are incredibly beneficial as she gets bigger
Newborn babies might not be able to do much more than eat, sleep, cry, and poop, but they still need activities to help them develop mentally and physically. Each day, lay your baby on her tummy on a mat or soft blanket. Stay with her and talk to her, pat her back, and show her baby-appropriate toys. You only need to do this a few minutes a couple times a day. It will help her to strengthen her neck muscles so she can lift her head by herself. You can also make funny faces, give baby different textured yet safe items to touch, sing, tickle, and count the little piggies on their toes to help solidify your bond.

Provide a constant narrative It will take some getting used to, but talking to your baby about everything is another wonderful way to bond. It also helps her build her vocabulary and understand the world around her. She might not understand everything you say at first, but if you always tell her about what you’re doing, what you’re seeing and even what you’re thinking and feeling, it will help her adjust more to life outside the womb. Your voice is a soothing sound for her, something she’s known since she was inside of you. Hearing it as often as possible will help her develop and thrive, not to mention bring the 2 of you closer together.
