WEEK 9 READING: PERSPECTIVE AS A SYMBOLIC FORM

Question 1: What are Durer’s rules for perspectival projection? (Maximum 100 words) Durer’s rules for perspectival projection are: Firstly, all orthogonals meet at the central vanishing point which is drawn perpendicular from the eye to the picture plane. Secondly, all parallels have a common vanishing point. Lastly, all equal dimension progressively diminish as they recede in space. Thus any part of the picture is able to be caclulated from preceding or following part.

Question 2: Describe homogeneous space? (Maximum 100 words)

Homogeneous space in contrast to perceptual space is one where all elements are determinations of position, which possess no content outside of this relation. The similarity of elements exists in the fact that they do not contain any real content, they are representations of the ideal relations of objects we perceive. Thus homogeneous space is one of similar logical relations, in which similar figures can be drawn in all directions and magnitudes.

QUAD PERSPECTIVE 1 + 2 This view was chosen to focus on the markets and trading of wares during the day, which in my interpretation appear on one side

This view was chosen to focus on the story telling and memory sharing which occurs at night time between travellers. It is meant to be very similar to the first perspective to highlight the duality and division of day and night in this city.

PERSPECTIVE SCENE 1 + 2

The day perspective is meant to be displaying the trading that occurs within Euphemia, so vegetable market stalls and barrels were chosen.

The night perspective is meant to be showing the dark atmosphere that surrounds the market when travellers sit down to tell their tales. Objects such as fires and an imagination of a wolf were chosen to create this.

WEEK 4 READING: MAPPING THE UNMAPPABLE

Question 1: IWhat is the difference between autographic and allographic practice? (Maximum 100 words) Autographic arts requires the authenticity of the creator to be created, thus are not able to be reproduced, such as paintings and sculptures. Whereas allographic arts do not require direct intervention from the author to be able to reproduce it, through the use of notation other people can recreate the artwork, such as music scores.

Question 2: Why do architects need new representational techniques? (Maximum 100 words) New representational techniques are needed because the urban site is no longer simply geographic. Many intangible factors have been added to the list of necessary considerations. Our current representational techniques cannot properly explain relationships and considerations to do with war, information exchange, and communication technologies.
