WELCOME

Welcome to the third Banchory Summer Beer Festival. It’s amazing to think we are now on our 3rd summer beer festival here in Banchory and our 8th festival overall as an events company. As well as lots of other mini events taking place too…. we’ve done everything from weddings to pipe band championships! It’s a far cry from the original vision we set out with three years ago. You though, the customers showed us a demand for an event like the beer festival, so we listened and have taken your points on board, with every festival improving as a result. Those of you who attended the first festival will definitely see a major difference, we certainly look back and think “what were we thinking”. As a young

04

company with no events experience we’ve had to learn a lesson or two along the way but sometimes there is no better way than to learn the hard way! From an attendance of 1,200 during year one, we are now pushing 5,000 people over the weekend, all here to enjoy the finest music, food and drink available from Deeside to Ireland to London. This year we have expanded by taking in a couple big eye catching marquees, bigger bars, an improved family day and plenty Scottish Sunshine!!! We love to hear from you, so if you see a man in orange (someone’s favourite colour) wandering around please stop us for a chat. We hope you have a great time at Banchory Beer Festival and most of all we hope you drink responsibly.

WIN! If you fancy a chance to win tickets to our next festival and ÂŁ100 cash thanks to Bancon Homes take a selfie with our beer mats and post them to Twitter, Facebook or Instagram using: #banconhomes #banchorybeerfestival

Tokens

All the bars within the festival operate a token based system. This allows you to purchase drinks tokens at one central point which can be used at all three bars. Having a token system in place speeds up the bar service meaning less waiting time for you, the customer. The tokens operate on a very simple currency. Two tokens equal either a pint of Beer or Cider, a Gin & Tonic, a glass Prosecco or a Rum & Mixer. All half pints are one token. Tokens can be purchased with either cash or all types of debit/ credit card at a rate of 5 tokens for £10. All the food vendors within the festival grounds operate on a cash only basis and don’t partake in the token system.

Family Day

Sunday

Last year’s family day was such a hit that this year we are making it bigger and better than last year. We will have face painting, bouncy castles and lots of other fun activities for kids of all ages to take part in and a special kids bar with soft ‘ drinks and smoothie’s. Banchory’s own will be in attendance with all of their amazing soft play equipment for your little one who is maybe a little too young for the bouncy castle. Baby changing and feeding facilities are available in the Mad’s Mats tent.

Street food

For those of you who weren’t here last year FreshMex is a street food stall and catering concept established here in the North-East of Scotland that brings fresh, quality ingredients to your Banchory Beer Festival experience – in our own tex-mex inspired style. The menu is simple – healthy tex-mex style street food, customised to YOUR liking with passion and perfection. With a variety of high quality meats, glutenfree & vegan options, along side our freshly homemade toppings to choose from – you really are spoilt for choice from the team. P.S. If you just can’t get enough of FreshMex after the hangover has worn off, come by our new ‘food residency’ in Aberdeen city centre. Open 7 days a week at the Adams, 145 Holburn Street for sit-in and takeaway! 14

Calum Richardson set up The Bay Fish & Chips in 2006 with his wife Lindsay serving thousands of portions of fish and chips and winning many accolades along the way. The quality and provenance of the ingredients used at The Bay Fish & Chips is crucial to its success - the menu will tell you the name of the boat that landed your fish, and the farm that grew your tatties. The Bay is also one of the most highly rated restaurants in the UK by the Sustainable Restaurant Association achieving Three Star Sustainability Champion status. The Store is a family run Farm and Coffee shop producing our very own Aberdeen Angus Cattle for our butchery. The latest addition is The Farmers Grill giving customers the opportunity to taste our Aberdeen Angus beef from the farm just as it should taste!

BEER Banchory Beer Festival & Alechemy Collaboration 1. Slippery when Wheat – White IPA – 4.8 % ABV This year’s festival brew! A 50/50 malt to wheat base creates a lovely light body which is very well complimented by the use of South Pacific hops. It’s a combination of light wheat beer meets hoppy IPA and a very sessionable beer too!

Bathtub Gin? It is said that during Prohibition in the US, bootleggers distilled gin illegally, mixing grain alcohol with flavourings (like juniper!) to disguise the taste, before topping up the tall bottles with water from a bathtub. Like gin, Laings has a long history. Since 1862, we have been a part of the North East, first as a plumbing business bringing running water and central heating systems to communities and homes across the North of Scotland, before gradually evolving into the bathroom, kitchen and bedroom retailer we are today.

#LAINGSBATHTUBGIN @LAINGSINVERURIE /LAINGSKITCHENSBATHROOMSBEDROOMS

Have you just had a Bad Day at The Office? Then this is the beer for you! This delicious tipple is a light golden ale with a heavy hop bitterness and flavoured with a strong fruit and citrus aroma.

3. Breakneck – Double IPA – 7.5% ABV This big boy packs quite the punch. With loads of hops covering a think caramel back bone with notes of pine which helps compliment the residual sweetness and welcome freshness that the bitter hops give. To be enjoyed in half pints only due to its high strength. 2 tokens for the half.

In celebration of this (and our love of all things gin!), we’ve teamed up with Banchory Beer Festival to give one lucky winner a bottle of Warner Edwards Elderflower Gin.

All you have to do is guess how many litres of Warner Edwards Gin you would need to fill this stunning bath.

2. Bad day at the Office – Blonde – 4.5 % ABV

ESTABLISHED 1862

Inverurie Business Park Oldmeldrum Road Inverurie Aberdeenshire AB51 0ZJ t: 01467 620311 e: info@laings.co.uk www.laings.com The winner will be announced on Monday15th August. Terms & Conditions (& tonics!) Apply.

4. Line Breaker - IPA – 5% ABV Soft peaches on the nose with a lovely lemon twang to it which lightens the palate.

5. Unfinished Impathy – Imperial Oatmeal Stout – 10.5% ABV

For the beer geeks out there this is an un-aged version of Bring out the Imp but the guys at Alechemy have used Molasses. It’s a monster really, its dark treacle with heavy thick lacing, it’s got to be tried to be believed. If you’re a fan of dark beers and are looking to extend your horizons, this is for you. Be warned, take it easy! Halves.

Boundary 6. APA - American Pale Ale – 3.5% ABV Soft toffee aroma with a thin beige head with a lovely orangey earthy flavour. Great session beer

Brew Dog 7. Nanny State – Hoppy non alcoholic – less then 0.5% For the drivers….

8. Vagabond – Gluten free Pale ale – 4.5% ABV Gluten free beer that tastes good! Toffee notes to start with turn to slight pine finishing on fruitcake.

Cross Borders 9. IPA – Indian Pale Ale – 4.5% ABV A classic cask ale, for the “real ale” drinkers… Soft slightly sweet woody malt nose with a bitter fruit style palate. 10. Pale Ale – Yup it’s a Pale ale! – 3.8% ABV Another classic real ale soft malt toffee nose with a slight bit of lemon and a refreshing finish.

Deeside Brewery 11. Lager – Lager – 4.1% ABV A classic crisp lager with more of a malt body which helps create a more complex palate. 12. Talorcan – Stout – 4.5% ABV This I think is the flag ship for Deeside Brewery, it’s a proper stout. A rich creamy body with slight notes of coffee and chocolate help creates real depth in this banger. Are you stout ready? 13. Deeside IPA – IPA – 5% ABV A pale ale with a fusion of bittering hops and a wonderful three hop finish. It does exactly what it says on the tin.

Fierce Beer 14. Cranachan Killer – Raspberry Fruit Beer –

5.5% ABV

An oatmeal pale that has been “smashed” full of local raspberries and honey, enough of them “to feed a clan of Highlanders” no seriously its full of them and it tastes amazing. Fierce Beer have literally take the beer making rule book and told it to f@*k off… 15. Lemmy A’vite – Lemon wheat Beer – 5%

ABV

A wheat beer with a heap of Lemons. A proper summer beer that again throws the rules out the window. It’s local and its superb! WHEAT BEER!

Pilot 16. Blonde – Blonde – 4% ABV Galaxy and Amarillo give a real tropical fruit flavour to one of my favourite beers on the list. At Pilot they work on great principles, not adding anything rubbish to their beer. It’s meant to be cloudy, IT’S A GOOD THING!

17. Vienna Lager – Lager – 4.6% ABV A classic Vienna Lager although technically it’s an ale… Doesn’t really matter though, it tastes superb! A classic summer beer for all beer drinkers!

St Andrews Brewing Company 18. Mocha Porter – Coffee chocolate porter –

6% Abv

A coffee & chocolate porter that does what it says on the tin. Lots of coffee and dark malts with a creamy chocolate body. 19. Oatmeal Stout – Stout – 4.5% Abv World Beer awards 2015 Silver Medal winner. Classic oatmeal stout, a good dark malt with a creamy body, just a very well balanced stout.

Tempest 20. Armadillo – Session IPA – 3.6% ABV A 21st century session IPA bursting with hop flavour and big up front citrus fruits, it just makes an excellent session beer.

21. Long White Cloud – Pale Ale – 5.6% ABV Louis’s favourite beer… and I can see why! Tropical fruits, spice and vinous in the hop character just a spot on extremely refreshing pale ale. 22. Cascadian – Blonde – 4.1 % ABV North West American Hops give this session beer a fair punch, giving it aromas of citrus and pine with a great balanced bitterness. 23. Easy Living – Pilsner – 5% ABV A classic modern Pilsner lager dry hopped with laid back lemon and lime hints complimented well with a little honey and lime.

Tryst 24. Raj – IPA – 5.5% ABV Hopped with three British hop varieties gives a deep lingering taste complimenting the under malts, creating a very memorable pint. Also its been award more prizes than Mungo’s had pie’s!! 25. Peach – Fruit Pale Ale – 3.9% ABV One of those pints that when you’ve been drinking IPA’s and stouts all day and really want something refreshing or you want to get into beer more, this is the beer for you!!! Its soft peach with a light malt back ground and a crisp citrus twang is just spot on.

Up Front 26. Ishmael – IPA – 6% ABV Showing off some sweet malt characteristics and a robust bitterness this American style IPA is ace! It’s got everything you want in an IPA bitterness, fruitiness, slight floral notes and a resinous lingering back note. Grab a pal and share an Ishmael.

Vocation 27. Life & Death – IPA – 6.5% ABV This is Life & Death, 3 Kilos of hops and 4o kilos of barley go into every barrel of this beer. A ballsy American style IPA, lots of tropical & Citrus fruits with an extremely smooth malt back ground leave a lingering bitterness. This is a solid beer, very nice 28. Heart & Soul – Session IPA – 4.4% ABV Like Life & Death but a bit more of a sociable strength! An intense fruit-salad with lots of those good west coast American hops. A full bodied and fruity session IPA grapefruit, gooseberries, mango and pineapple. Very drinkable and very good! 29. Pride & Joy – American Pale – 5.3% ABV American style pale ale, very hoppy and robust with a well layered malt back bone which allows the mango, citrus and earthy pine notes to shine through.

Windswept 30. APA – American Pale Ale – 5% ABV

Cider

Bright citrus style hops balanced with complex malts which help in leading to a long tangy finish.

Thistly Cross 1. Whisky Cask – 6.9% ABV

Six Degree’s North 31. Hopocrisy – Belgium – 4.6% ABV

A medium dry cider with a lovely whisky infusion that doesn’t over power the subtleties of the cider.

Super fresh hoppy aromas and a touch of Madeira cake sweetness mingle with apricot and apples. The palate is mouth-watering and balanced with a floral and very moreish hopped finish.

A bright golden session cider that is rich in aroma of ripe apples with a lovely soft palate which is refreshingly fruity. A real thirst quencher!

2. Traditional – 4.4% ABV

32. Wanderlust Wheat - Wheat Beer - 4.6% ABV

3. Strawberry – 4% ABV

Typically, cloudy with lustful creaminess with a soft orange back ground hint.

Made with fresh Scottish Strawberries which are then hand pressed in Thistly crosses apple presses. Strawberries totally dominate the aroma with a little zing of apples which balance out the sweetness.

4. Ginger – 4 % ABV

TRAVEL STOCK ADD

Fresh root ginger is left to infuse their traditional cider creating a well-balanced bitter sweet cider. Apples and ginger is such a classic combination and they’ve really managed to hit the nail on the head with this one.

5. Jaggy Thistle – 7.4% ABV Naturally fermented over the colder months of the year and letting wild yeast work its magic providing a proper scrumpy flavour! Its unfiltered, unpasteurised and conditioned in ex-spirit casks. A proper scrumpy but from Scotland!

6. Farm House – 5.5% ABV This provides the perfect step between the beginner’s traditional cider and cider followers scrumpy. Its sweet apple on the nose, which develops into a punchy cider which is satisfyingly smooth with a dry finish.

Gordon Castle 7. Apples & Pears – 4.4% ABV Made with a combination of fresh Apples & Pears picked from Gordon Castle’s walled garden which are then lovingly pressed to create a medium sweet slightly sparkling delight!

8. Whisky Cask – 6.9% ABV Again using apples from their walled garden and then aged in specially selected Speyside whisky barrels to provide a honeyed oak finish.

GIN

1. Stirling Gin – Dry Gin – 43% ABV First distilled in October 2015, so this is still a pretty new product, but the quality it brings to the table is superb! It’s effortlessly smooth and full of the classic juniper and citrus notes that you want from a dry gin. A great starting point, and I think a perfect G & T.

2. Shropshire Spirits Salopian Gin – Dry Gin – 40% ABV This Gin has not even been on the market for a month yet, and you maybe some of the first people in Scotland to try it! Strawberries and Raspberries from Shropshire are combined with juniper and 2 secret ingredients to create a fantastically fruity gin! Served up with a couple of strawberries to bring out the sweetness of it.

3. Warner Edwards Elderflower – Fruit – 40% ABV Making the most of summer flavours, taking their classily spiced dry gin and adding elderflower from the hedgerows surrounding the farm it is distilled on. This is the perfect summer gin.

4. Esker Spirits – Dry Gin – 42% ABV Brand new made in Deeside!!! Using water from the Dee and Sliver Birch Trees that line its path. It completely embodies the spirit of Royal Deeside. You literally cannot get more local! It is created with over a dozen responsibly sourced botanicals, many from Kincardine Estate and distilled in a little copper pot still, before being bottled on site in Cults.

5. Persie Zesty Citrus – Citrus – 42% ABV An explosion of lime and blood orange on the nose with a real zingy freshness. This is summer in a bottle and again a very local product coming just from the other side of Glen Shee. It’s just a citrus explosion. I’m a big fan of it!

6. Little Bird – Dry Gin – 41.6% ABV It’s got a seductive pink grapefruit nose which matches perfectly with fresh juniper and dazzling citrus. Its more orangey in the palate with a subtle underlying sweetness.

Prosecco 1. CasaGheller Frizzante – Medium - 11% ABV With an intensely fruity aroma with hints of ripe golden apple this elegant & floral style of prosecco is perfect for the sun. (hopefully the sun is shining, if not it’s also good for improving morale)

2. La Perla Spumante - Rose - 11% ABV The perfect amount of sweetness in this Prosecco provides an excellent balance to the bright strawberry and zesty freshness that this wine has to offer. The perfect balance between sweet fruit and sharp fruit.

RUM

1. Dark Matter Distillers - 40% ABV Scotland’s first rum distillery, produced no more than half a mile from the beer festival site, it is full of Christmas spice and nutmeg along with a big hint of ginger. Now this is how spiced rum should be!

Mixers Summer House Drinks 1. Walter Gregor Tonic Water 2. Raspberry Lemonade 3. Hint of Mint Lemonade Peter Spanton 4. No 5. – Lemongrass Tonic Water 5. No 9. – Cardamom Tonic Water Bundaberg

3. Stella d’Italia – Off Dry – 11% ABV A lively crisp Prosecco with a delicate lemony character and an aromatic, dry, refreshing finish.
