bangin’ on... Welcome! Willkommen! Bienvenue! To our first ever issue of Bang Magazine. This has been a long time coming & anticipated by many, but we’ve finally managed to make time in our busy schedule to get the ball rolling. In this pilot issue, we’ve focused on introducing ourselves & what we do best (& to obviously show off our talents a little). On pg4 you can see how we pulled off our latest charity event, Style In The City, in true Carrie Bradshaw fashion. Jody’s ‘Celebrity Scissorhands’ lifestyle as a L’Oréal I.D. Artist is featured on pg5. As the mag goes forward, we would like to feature the talents of our uber fabulous clientele, a little taster of which can be found on pg2, where we highlight the creativity of up & coming fashion designer, Sally Rhodes. We are also keen to get feedback & suggestions from you guys on how we can grow the magazine & make it into something you love to read & pass on to your friends. We are also very interested in any talented individuals who would like to contribute to future issues in any way. Get in touch with us at magazine@banghair.co.uk. For now though, we hope you enjoy this little taster of things to come & we look forward to seeing you in the salon soon.

salon news Friend & client of Bang, Sally Rhodes, recently exhibited at Graduate Fashion Week in London with a little help from Bang directors, Sarah & Jonathan Cotton. The trio collaborated on a stunning showcase of fashion images, displaying their individual talents. Sally’s collection was inspired by dutch artist, Ferry Staverman, who creates beautiful paper sculptures. “I used the same concept in my garments by creating exagerated shapes with flat panels fixed, in seams, to a body-con base.” Bang director, Sarah, was so happy with the shots, she also decided to use them as our very first ever entry into the British Hairdressing Awards. All the images can be viewed on the Bang Hair facebook page.

Aw.... Mr and Mrs Kitchingman..... what a lovely couple, and it all started at Bang! Well, the wedding plans anyway, While waiting for their hair appointment, a chance browsing of the cover of ID magazine ‘The home is where the heart is’ issue, prompted the spontaneous marriage proposal (Yes, on the Bang reception sofa!) from Ian Kitchingman aka ‘Kitch’ to his gorgeous girlfriend Lowra Tomei. They tied the knot on 6th August. Well done guys, we’re so happy for you both.

Jody

takes the stage Earlier this year our Top Stylist, Jody Toner, was invited to join the L’Oréal Professionnel I.D. Artist Program. The training program will continue over the next 2 years & is a tremendous accolade, as it highlights Jody as one of the most promising talents in the UK. The scheme was devised by L’Oréal to scout talented individuals from salons across the UK in order to mould them into ambassadors for the brand. The team are trained by some of the biggest names in the industry in stage presentation & catwalk session styling. The uber talented few are then thrust into the limelight by presenting L’Oréal collections in front of audiences of 100’s of industry professionals. Here’s what Jody has to say about his experience so far: “To have been picked for the I.D. Artist Program is a life changing experience, it has opened many doors for me and I have met so many inspirational characters. I’m totally hooked now and would love to go further such as being a part of the L’Oréal Fame Team. The whole experience is just adding more & more to my job satisfaction.” When asked about the training he has recieved so far on the program Jody said “The skills I have learnt are already helping me in the salon a great deal. I also think it is important to relay information about forthcoming trends to other members of staff to increase motivation.” In April The ID team including Jody, presented their interpretations of the L’Oréal Spring/Summer collection ‘Travel Journal’ on stage in Leeds and Newcastle. “The SS2010 catwalk showcase was probably one of the best but scariest things I have done in my life. It gave me such a buzz and was a massive adrenalin pumping experience. Doing hair on stage and presenting made me feel a lot more confident and excited about what I can achieve as a hairdresser. Working on the I.D. Artist Team is brilliant, it is great to see a variety of ideas and different views on the collections.” We, at Bang are immensely proud of Jody. Also it’s a real honour and a privilege for us to be able to support all our staff by offering them such huge career opportunities. Our ongoing and increasingly strong relationship with highly respected industry leaders like L’Oréal Professionnel, TIGI and Wella keeps us motivated and driven and we endeavour to continue to provide the highest levels of in-house training and push individuals in the right direction to hone their skills to be the best in the field. So far it seems to have served us well. Long may it continue.

STYLE IN THE

CIT Y

The

Bang

On 16th June, 150+ guests flocked to the Pitcher & Piano, York for a totally dazzling gathering of fashion, style and beauty, when Bang Hair joined forces with 3 local providers of fabulousness in aid of Breast Cancer Research. ‘Style In The City’ opened with a catwalk feast of fashions by Bunty & Co. of Pocklington and lingerie from Elizabeth Wells, The Shambles. ‘Young Blood’ make up was beautifully applied by Prescribe Skincare, also of Pocklington whilst the hair Brilli ant styling on the Bunt y&C night was in the o. X creative hands of our team at Bang.

A dozen Miss York finalists, including the recently crowned Miss York, Hannah Buffam, who is currently studying at York University were amongst the bounty of beautiful girls who gave their time and their looks to model for the charity event. Bang Hair are now the Official hair care providers to Miss York, Hannah, to get her tresses in tip top Jody lo ving th shape in the run up to the forthcoming e atten tion of the Miss England contest. This honour was crowd specially requested by Miss England Officials after former Miss England, Georgia Horsley hottly tipped our salon & still regularly travels from London to get her hair done at Bang. Beauti

es

After the show, an array of tips, techniques and retail bargains were provided by the companies for the crowd to ponder whilst sipping on 2 for 1 cosmopolitan cocktails. ‘Celebrity Scissorhands’ style donations were made for hair styling by the Bang team leader, Sarah Cotton and Jody Toner, our recently established L’Oréal Professionnel I.D. Artist. Our event raised well over £700 through ticket sales, prize draws and donations. All in all, ‘Style In The City’ was a brilliantly produced and very fashionable affair which seemed to perfectly hit the mark for the style savvy people of York. It was exactly the sort of event that our city needs once in a while & in true ‘Sex & The City’ style, there’s already talks of a sequel.

The ‘O’ from Cloud9 is revolutionising the way we style our hair. Fast & Safe, this heated rollers system is ‘set’ to take the industry by storm.

Speed.

There’s never been a faster heating process - simply pop a roller in the pod and it’ll be ready to use in less than 4 seconds.

Ease.

As the rollers heat from the core out, they’re hot in the hair, not in the hand, so you can work without the worry of discomfort.

Lightweight.

Cloud9 incorporated the latest soft grip technology into the design, meaning you don’t have to use pins to hold the rollers in place. They’re also incredibly lightweight so they won’t drop.

Flexible.

TheO pod works with several sizes of rollers, including the extra large 60mm option, so you can create every style from the beautifully natural to utterly outrageous.

Control.

By heating just one roller at a time, you benefit from heat on demand, rather than heating numerous rollers at once, giving you creative control over where to take the individual style next.

Eco-friendly.

TheO uses 7 times less power than traditional heated rollers - so you’re not only doing your bit for style, you’re helping the planet too.

TheO pod - £149.95 • Roller sets - from £15.95 for 4
