PRESIDENT

What is Action? ACTION The Asian Collaborative Training on Infectious Diseases Outbreaks, Natural Disasters and Refugee Management is a transnational project, held by the Standing Committee On Human Rights and Peace, IFMSA in the Asia-Pacific region

For the ďŹ rst time ever, this prestigious event is going to be hosted by Bangladesh!

Welcome Message Soaiba Zannat Organizing Comittee Chairperson for ACTION 2020

Dear beloved IFMSA Asia Pacific, It has been more than five years since BMSS shared its first splendid IFMSA experience being the host for APRM 2014. Since then we have been longing to host the most popular IFMSA transnational project of Asia Pacific region “ACTION (Asian Collaborative Training on Infectious Disease Outbreak, Natural Disaster and Refugee Management)”. Finally, the wait is over !! We, the organizing committee are thrilled and honored to invite you all for first ever in fifteen years to the virtual ACTION 2020. We believe and support the inspiration behind ACTION with full spirit and with that spirit virtual ACTION 2020 will take place from 6th September to 30th September. Bangladesh’s devoted role in management and rehabilitation of approximately 10,00,000 refugees during Rohingya crisis significantly reflects the theme of ACTION itself. We may be from different culture, different tongue , different mentality. We believe ACTION 2020 will play a role to fill in these differences and will bring out the best diverse solutions from participants to develop the region internally with all the resource using. As per planning ACTION 2020 was in the process of being materialized, entire OC put their heart out to make our dream come true but unfortunately due to COVID-19 pandemic, the process had to be halted for health & safety requirements. But since it has always been our mission to make our region stronger than ever in establishing disaster management regulative framework to mitigate the effects and our role accordingly, we took one step backwards, halted the motion and came back with full force, to unite our beloved Asia Pacific Region discussing the global health issues, with a focus on the management of infectious disease outbreak, disasters and refugee crisis, as per our theme for ACTION 2020 “ It’s Now or Never”. On behalf of the whole OC, I wholeheartedly welcome you all to Bangladesh virtually for an inspired, motivated and innovative ACTION 2020 that will surely reflect what we are And what we stand and strive for as an NMO. See you all in Virtual ACTION 2020 !!!

NMO President Fahtiha Nasreen PRESIDENT Bangladesh Medical Students’ Society Term 20/21

Dear IFMSA Family,আন্তিরক েভচ্ছা ! 2020 has been the year of isolation. Yet it could not stop us from evolving, sharing, learning and advocating. We acted globally, we acted locally! Asian Collaborative Training on Infectious Disease Outbreaks, Natural Disasters and Refugee Management (ACTION) is a platform for medical students’ of our warm & diverse Asia Pacific region, to interact, share and exchange ideas. As NMO President, it is a delight & honor to invite you all to ACTION which will be virtually hosted by my lovely NMO, BMSS-Bangladesh. “Refugees are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, children, with the same hopes and ambitions as us—except that a twist of fate has bound their lives to a global refugee crisis on an unprecedented scale.” — Khaled Hosseini. Through ACTION, medical students get to learn & act on the importance of addressing the medical needs of refugees, their medical and mental health issues and cross-cultural care issues. It’s a basic for medical students to not only work for disease control but also for prevention and ACTION every year has been playing a role model to motivate the medicos to grow the urge for helping the disaster victims with proper management. ACTION not only provides the skills, experiences and ideas but also provides a hand to hand activity amongst the participants which acquaint them about the vital role they can play during outbreaks. In order to manage the paradigm shift in disaster management, ACTION takes part in establishing disaster management regulatory framework. The organizing committee has been working extremely hard since August 2019 to welcome you all to our country. It would have been our immense pleasure to host ACTION in Beautiful Bangladesh, unfortunately, due to the pandemic outbreak, considering safety, well being & the monumental importance of the relevant topics during current global situation, a virtual ACTION has been organized for you all! Let’s all unite together to learn, to discover & to explore! See you all at the virtual ACTION 2020! আমন্তর্ণ রইেলা আমােদর েদেশ ! (Invitations remain to visit our country)

We live in a fast-paced world and unpredictable world. Despite all the technologies we have reached, disasters are still hard to predict, and structural precautions are not enough to avoid the catastrophic results. The instantaneous handling of the disaster plays an important role in knowledge for aid providers and members of the community to know. However, as they may come out of the blue, when disasters strike, there is no time to prepare. It is ACTION time! ACTION represents a special experience and a platform to bring medical students from all over

Let collaboration to follow. Not only skills and knowledge, but also the experiences and ideas shared between the participants are also as crucial to this learning and development adventure. “We cannot stop natural disasters but we can arm ourselves with knowledge: so many lives wouldn’t have to be lost if there was enough disaster preparedness.” To peace ... and beyond!

THEME

Theme for ACTION 2020

"It’s now or never”

Maximum South East Asians are not properly aware of the dos’ and don’ts during any kind of epidemic disaster. Any prosperous nation needs trained medical personnel to tackle and overcome different natural or manmade disasters. We hope that our ACTION 2020 delegates prove to be resourceful in such times of need. Our thematic sessions for this year aims to bring the best out of them and start utilizing their attributes in fighting crisis swiftly. Our goal is to inspire these leaders towards making positive changes and be equipped in managing an accidental outbreak on urgent call. Practicing positive consciousness is a habit, a long term process which needs to be cultured every moment and as soon as possible; remembering the fact that if we don’t opt for it now, we never will!
