Thank you for your support As we celebraled the 1 OOth anniversary of the opening of Bangor University's Main Building in Ju ly, it i s an apt ti me to reflect not only on the proud tradi t ion of ph ilanthropy we have inherited from our founders. but al so to l ook ahead to the future plans of the University,

which our donors are helping to make possible. I am pleased to report that philanth ropic gifts received by Bangor Univer sity in the 2009/10 academic year totalled £366.000. representing a nearly 50 per cent ri se w hen compared to fund s secured in the previous year. Th is increase in giving comes at a crucial time. as the funding arrangements for Welsh un iversities are facing

significant changes. These gift s. for a variety of Univer· sity 1prog rammes, have made a lasting impact in many areas. ranging from the launch of a prestigious

neuroanalomy summer sthool hosted by lhe Sthool of Psychology, supported by th e James S. McDonnell Foundation. to scholarships and bursaries for undergraduate and postgraduale student s. With matched funding on eligible donations, received from th e Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, the total secwred th rough gifts in 2009/1 O rose to £523.500. Gifts at all levels are cr uci al to ensuring Bangor's cont inuing excellence. and we are delighted t o count individuals, charitable trusts and companies amongst

members and friends of the University committed over

here in Bangor and all over the world. I have been struck by the fondness for and commitment to the University

£69.000 to the Bangor Fund (formerly the Annual Fund). I am proud to say that of all of the alumni donors giving to Wel sh universi ties in 2009/10, 20 per cent of those

shared by so many people, w ho have certainty warmly welcomed me to Bangor's commun ity. As we embar k on new projects suc h as Pontio, to create a new Arts &

were Bangor alumni giving to their a Ima mater. As a

Innovation Centre for the University and the w ider communi ty, I hope that all of our donors wilt have the opportun ity to visit Bangor University and experience the positive changes for themselves. I thank you for your
