•
The newly built Pontio centre will offer a theatre, studio theatre, cinema, design studio, teaching and learning facilities, Student Union, cafes and much more.
•
Bangor Students’ Union won the ‘Higher Education Students’ Union of the Year’ award at the NUS Wales awards 2014.
With those in mind here’s why we think you should consider Bangor. Excellent student satisfaction. The School is ranked fourth in the UK for student satisfaction (amongst sport science schools) in the Complete University Guide 2015. What I love about my course is that I am actually studying a subject that I am passionate about" Susannah Richmond, Year 2, Sport, Health and Exercise Science
Teaching and Research Excellence. At Bangor, we’ve been teaching high-calibre undergraduate degrees for nearly 40 years. Over this time we’ve attracted world-leading academic staff who have helped to create some of the UK's best sport science degree programmes. And all our teaching is backed up by outstanding, world-class research. So, as a student at Bangor, you’ll get brilliant teaching from people who are leaders in your field of study. “Bangor offers the best outdoor and sports science courses in the UK! I really enjoy the combination of academia and oudoor practicals.” Chris Scott-Combes, Year 3, Sport Science (Outdoor Activities) With an annual intake of approximately 150 undergraduates, we’re much smaller than a lot of other university sport science schools. Everyone knows each other and we pride ourselves in being one of the friendliest departments in a friendly university. We have an ‘open door’ policy so that you can sign up for tutorials with any of our staff.
Sport and Outdoor Activities at Bangor. In our experience, most of our students like to do sport as well as learn about it. The University has a number of very popular sports clubs and societies, and is probably the best place in the UK to study if you love outdoor and adventurous sports. Our unique location between Anglesey, the Menai Strait and the Snowdonia National Park means there’s great walking, running, climbing, rowing, kayaking and sailing right on our doorstep. As a student you’ll have access to all this, plus our extensive sports and recreation facilities. •
In October 2013, the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) named Bangor as one of its top ten great universities for climbers and walkers.
•
Bangor’s Clubs and Societies ranked sixth in the UK (WhatUni? Student Choice Awards, 2014).
“I love the area surrounding the University, which gives me time to enjoy outdoor sports easily.” John Smith, Year 3, Sport Science
•
•
As part of our ongoing investment programme, the recently refurbished and extended Canolfan Brailsford Sports complex contains sports halls, gyms, weight and cardiovascular rooms, international-standard squash courts, a ‘Livingstone’ climbing wall, sports dome and outdoor pitches. Unlike most universities, Bangor offers free membership of all clubs and societies – so there are no expensive subscriptions to pay.

Flexibility in how you study. The wide range of the degrees we offer means you have lots of choice: •

•
A foundation degree offered in partnership with Coleg Menai (our local FE college). If you complete a foundation degree successfully you’ll be eligible to apply for our one year top-up degree

Top-up degrees that turn your foundation degree (or an HND from elsewhere), into a BSc Hons degree in Sport Science (Outdoor Recreation).
•
Joint BSc Hons degrees combine Sport Science or Physical Education with a range of subjects including marketing, business studies and languages.
If you’d like more information about our foundation, top-up or joint honours degrees, please get in touch and we’ll be very happy to help. Funding your studies. We have a number of ways to help you fund your studies and make your money go further: •

•
The University can help you to find parttime work while you’re here (through our Careers and Employability Service) and there’s financial support available. Visit the Undergraduate Finance pages on the University website for more information.
