ruby was born in a small cabin near tylertown, mississippi In 1957. ruby Bridge's family moved to new orleans where schools were segregated. white and black kids could not go to school together because that was the law back then.

when ruby was six a judge ordered six black girls to go to white schools. ruby was one of those six black girls. ruby liked her black school but her parents sent her to the new school because they thought that blacks and whites should have the same rights.

when she went to the white school it was like her life changed. ruby walked with u.s. marshalls. she was very brave because people called her names and threw stuff at her but she kept on walking.

when ruby got to her classroom. it was so quiet. she was surprised to see that there were no kids in the classroom. all she had as a friend was her teacher miss henry. ruby was in that school for one whole year with no other kids and as miss henry's only student.

FOr one year Ruby worked with Ms. henry alone. one day white kids came to ruby's classroom. ruby liked the kids. and guess what? all the kids including ruby graduated at the same time.

when ruby came back to visit her school, when she was a bit older, she was surprised to see so many black people and she knew that she changed the law that every one was ignoring. The law was that whites had more rights then blacks.

This Person is a changemaker because: 1 she went to white school when she was black, to make things fair for everyone. 2. she changed the law was that whites had more rights than blacks 3. she never gave up going to the white school even though that was the law.

My Changemaker is connected to martin luther king j.r.they both believed that black and white should have the same rights.

One thing I've learned is People if they are poor should have the same rights as people who have more money than them.

the story of Ruby bridges

A changemaker changes a law that is not fair, just like whites had more rights than blacks when ruby went to a white school. A changemaker needs to be someone strong enough to do things when people don't want them to, just like ruby. segregation means separated. When ruby moved to new orleans whites and blacks were sepArated And that meant when ruby went to school there would be no white kids. integration is the opposite of segregation. integration means together and when ruby changed the law and made whites and blacks be together. rights mean I have the right to do this. and ruby made blacks and whites have the same rights.
