Introduction Famous Quotation: "Before anything, preparation is the key to success." Best known for: He invented the telephone in1876. The telephone allowed people to send voice through wires with electrons.

What I find interesting: that his mother was deaf.

3 Key Qualities: 1. Persevered 2. Communicated 3.Viewed problems as opportunities

I chose this person because my dad worked in the phone business.

Overcame a Hardship/Challenge I read that his investors thought he could not invent the telephone. He convinced them that sending voice was better then sending more beeps. The beeps were Morse Code. He needs investors to give him money. I think that it was hard having people say he couldn't do something, but he convinced them that his second idea was better then his first idea.

Showed Compassion and Empathy I read that Alexander Graham Bell taught deaf children how to speak by teaching them to feel their throats when they spoke. I think he showed compassion by helping kids in need when he didn't need to.

Took Action I read that when Alexander was 15 he invented a talking machine with his brother Melly. He was inspired by his grandfather because he invented a method called visible speech.Visible speech uses symbols to spell out the sounds of words. It broke down words in to their simple sounds. I think he took action by inventing that machine to start his passion for sound.

Persevered I read that after Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, he kept inventing things such as planes, a boat to take salt from salt water and a machine that could find metal in bodies from 1895-1909.

I think he never gave up his passion for inventing.

Impact: How Things are Different Today If it weren't for Alexander Graham Bell I couldn't talk to my grandmother on her birthday because I use the phone to talk to her. P.S. she lives in New York and we can hear each other on the phone. I think Alexander Graham Bell made a impact on the world. Today we might not have the original model but he inspired other people to invent modern phones.

Viewed Problems as Opportunities I read that it was hard for people to clean wheat so Alexander made a machine that cleaned wheat. He did it when he was a boy.

I think he viewed a problem as a opportunities to make a machine that cleaned wheat. He liked inventing and was passionate about inventing. This started off his life as a inventor.

Demonstrated Bravery I read that he went in front of a LOT of people to show his telephone invention on August 3rd and 10th in 1876 in Paris, Ontario. At first people didn't like the telephone because they thought it was watching them. I think he was brave by inventing the telephone and showing it to over 100 people. He was brave showing it to them when they didn't like it.

Learned from Mistakes I read that he learned from a mistake when he didn't make his invention fast enough. President Garfield was shot, and Alexander was trying to help him by inventing a machine that could locate the bullet in his body. However, it took too long and the President died.

I think he learned he sometimes needs to make his inventions faster to help people.

Communicated and Shared I read that Alexander entered his invention in the Pennsylvania Fair. He entered the telephone in 1876. The fair was the 100th birthday of U.S.A. and he entered the telephone because his wife convinced him to. I think Alexander shared his invention at the fair and released it to the world

Alexander Graham Bell Persevered when he kept inventing after he had already invented the telephone; he did not stop inventing.

Showed compassion when he thought deaf children how to speak.

Took action by inventing a talking machine which started his career.

Made a difference when he invented the telephone because without the telephone we would still be using Morse Code to send messages long distance.

Author Talk I’m similar to my Change Maker because I like building things and programming and I wonder how humans make sound.

My Change Maker is connected to Henry Ford, the Wright Brothers, and Thomas Edison because they all invented something.

I’m a Change Maker when I help someone in need, like a friend who gets hurt on the playground.
