Introduction Famous Quotation: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin bout by the content of their character." Best known for: Fighting with words for Civil Rights.

What I find interesting: Is that Dr. King always seemed calm even with those hard times.

3 Key Qualities:

I chose this person because Dr. King always made wise decisions and he listened to blacks and he used nonviolent protests which I like.

1. Took Action 2. Demonstrated Bravery 3.Viewed Problems as Opportunities

Overcame a Hardship/Challenge In1935 when Martin was six he played with his friend for the last time because Martin was black and his friend was white. He couldn't play with him because there was segregation Atlanta,GA. I think he felt bad and angry that who he plays with should be determined by his skin color.

Showed Compassion and Empathy Dr. King's house in Montgomery, Alabama got bombed but he just said, "we must love our white brothers. We must meet hate with love." I think that MLK still feels love towards the people who bombed his house. Most people would react with violence, want to hurt the people, and take out revenge on them.

Took Action In 1955 Dr. King led a bus boycott that nearly lasted a year after Rosa Parks was arrested in Montgomery, Alabama. After the boycott, people could sit wherever they wanted on the bus. I think Dr. King was right to take action and make that bus boycott after a problem that could lead to victory.

Persevered In 1965 Dr. King led a 5-day march from Selma, Alabama to Montgomery for their rights to vote. A little while after they started march, they were attacked by police. They tried again and they made it to Montgomery. I think he persevered because after they were attacked MLK didn't give up and they kept on marching.

Impact: How Things are Different Today In 1960 MLK continued to lead nonviolent protests for blacks in "White Only" areas, such as lunch counters and restaurants. I think Dr. King was right to try that because if he hadn't, none of the blacks would get to sit in restaurants and lunch counters and segregation would have continued.

Demonstrated Bravery In 1958 when Dr. King was in New York he got stabbed by a deranged black women. If he sneezed he would have died. I think Dr. King stayed calm all the way even if he could have died.

Communicated and Shared In 1963 Dr. King led a march on Washington with 250,000 people marching. He gave his "I Have a Dream" speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. I think that he really had to get what he said out and tell the people.

Dr. Martin Luther King, jr. Persevered when: he marched from Selma, Alabama to Montgomery and they were attacked but tried it again and made it.

Showed compassion when: his house got bombed but he just said "We must love our white brothers we must meet hate with love."

Took action by: In1955 Dr. King led a bus boycott that nearly lasted a year after Rosa Parks was arrested.

Made a difference when: he went to Atlanta to protest for White Only lunch counters and restaurants.

Author Talk I’m similar to my Change Maker because I like using nonviolence instead of violence.

My Change Maker is connected to Mohandas K. Gandhi because they both believed in nonviolent protests and King studied under Gandhi.

I’m a Change Maker when I solve the problem by using words instead of fighting.
