I CHOSE THIS PERSON BECAUSE...
jackie was eight years old when a white man threw a rock at him because he was black. He could only swim in the town's pool on Tuesdays because he was black. I think It was hard being black because black people were not treated fairly back then. the laws were not fair.
Even though he was mistreated he still treated his teammates with respect. I think he got his teammates to treat him like they treat whites.
jackie was the only black player on the brooklyn dodgers in 1947. It was hard getting his white teammates to not say bad words to him. He did not fight back. It was brave because he could have gotten into trouble because his teammates could have called the police if he fought back. Jackie was happy when he got his teammates to not say rude comments.
JACKIE WAS Active IN THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT IN THE 1960's. HE MARCHED AND PICKETED FOR RACIAL JUSTICE. HE TALKED IN MANY PLACES ABOUT UNFAIRNESS TO BLACKS. HE WAS REALLY HELpFUL TO BLACK PEOPle BECAUSE HE GAVE A LOT OF SPEECHES.
he believed he could help other black men play in the major league. I think he had a strong mind because he might get arrested for talking to white people, it might not work, and he could die, but he believed he could do it.
He worked really hard to be a great baseball player. on april 11, 1947 he played his first game as a real brooklyn dodger. he had to work really hard to play his best and he didn't want to disappoint his teammates. I think he was really good at sports. if he disappointed his teammates, he might get kicked off the team.
Today everybody can play baseball no matter what color your skin is. I think it's fair now, but not back then.
PERSEVERED WHEN jackie Kept trying t0 play major league baseball and he was good enough to play.
