Introduction Famous Quotation: Home is the best word there is. Best known for: Being a pioneer who wrote books about pioneer life for children and adults.
What I find interesting: Laura Ingalls Wilder moved 13 times!
3 Key Qualities:
I chose this person because... I have heard some of her books are very good so I wanted to find out about her.
1. Empathic 2. Loving 3. Kind
Overcame a Hardship/Challenge Laura's second child died soon after he was born. Then one bad, bad day her house burned down. " She knew that she was tougher than hard times."
I wonder when her child died and when he was born.
Showed Compassion and Empathy Laura's sister Mary was blind and Laura taught Mary everything she learned at school when she got home. Mary wanted to go to the College for the Blind in Iowa.
I think Laura was very kind to help her sister and try to understand her feelings. If it wasn't for Laura's night lessons than Mary wouldn't have been prepared to go to school.
Took Action Laura was the first person to write a book for kids about the pioneer life. She wrote a series called the Little House series. In that time people thought that kids couldn't do anything and that it wasn't worth it to make things for them.
If Laura Ingalls Wilder didn't write her books then not so many children would be able to learn about pioneer life or even be able to read. She was the first to give them attention, respect and something to do.
Persevered One day grasshoppers came and ate all the crops. Laura's family had to stay inside but their mom taught them how to read and write because they couldn't go to school.
Laura had to work really hard to concentrate when she wasn't in school. It can be really hard to listen to my mom when she's trying to teach me stuff. Sometimes I get annoyed.
Impact: How Things are Different Today Laura wrote books especially for children. Children didn't get much attention back then.
I think it took a lot of empathy to give attention to all those children after all those years of not people giving the children attention. Many kids today get books and toys made just for them.
Demonstrated Bravery Laura Ingalls Wilder moved 13 times! She was very brave to move so many times because she had to keep leaving places she knew and loved.
I am going to move soon and I feel really sad about it because I will never see the house I live in now again.
Viewed Problems as Opportunities Kids didn't get attention through books and that was a problem so Laura Ingalls Wilder didn't just sit and whine about it. She viewed it as an opportunity to make a book for children.
I wonder why she wanted to write for CHILDREN when nobody had written for children before.
Communicated and Shared Laura Ingalls Wilder started writing when she was over 60 years old. She communicated and shared through her books by telling people about prairie life. She told people through her published books that she cared about children and they should get attention because they can make changes as much as grown-ups can. I think that it is important to give children attention because it doesn't feel good at all when they don't. When I don't get attention I feel bored, grumpy and like I'm not there at all.
I’m similar to my Change Maker because she likes writing and so do I.
My Change Maker is connected to Ezra Jack Keats because they both did first things through a book.
Author Talk I’m a Change Maker when I make my friends happier when they are mad with someone.
