In your apartment
· · ·
Please keep quiet between 22:00 and 8:00. Your neighbours will appreciate this, as they are not on holiday. Lower your voices as soon as you enter the building as sounds carry up the stairs, and some people may also have the window open. Be aware that heels on tiles or parquet floor make a loud click which can usually be heard in the apartment below.
Protect your property

Keep your luggage in sight, or use a left luggage service. Make sure bags are always closed. Protect your personal belongings, especially in crowded areas such as the city centre and La Rambla. Be vigilant on public transport, especially the bus stop for the airport and on the train to the airport.

ussolini’s support of Franco proved to be decisive in the Spanish Civil War. Italy’s fascist regime sent military equipment such as planes, boats and arms, as well as financial support. The Aviazione Legionaria followed by the Corpo di Truppe Volontarie came to help Franco’s army in July 1936 and stayed in Spain until the conflict ended in June 1939. This exhibition presents the larger than life legend that fascist propaganda spun around the Spanish Civil War. The collection brings together for the first time images that represent the fascist intervention during the conflict, whilst previous retrospectives have focused on specific places or the historical background. Sources are drawn from both official propaganda and individual responses to the situation. An interesting discourse between different points of view gives fascinating insights through its variations, constant factors and revealing absences. 20

Two hundred images have been chosen from a volume of about 20,000 and from three different sources. These are illustrated magazines which were close to the regime and subject to censorship, whilst maintaining some editorial independence; personal photos from about a dozen soldiers, and institutional and military sources. Together they represent an intertwined story, each with its own viewpoint. Large variations on the same theme are sometimes captured, according to the objective or mission of each photographer, but there is also sometimes a striking resemblance between the materials and the story they tell. This historic exhibition will be inaugurated on the 17th November and can be seen until the 26th February at the Museo d’Història de Catalunya (Plaça del Pau Vila, 3.) Entrance is free. It will then travel to venues around Catalonia, Spain and Italy for the next three years.

Dalí museum & FIGUERES Tucked away up the Costa Brava, this unassuming town situated just north of Girona would be overlooked by many, were it not for Salvador Dalí. The artist was born and raised here, and returned to live here after many years in the 1960s.
DALÍ THEATRE MUSEUM The building which Dalí transformed into his museum used to be the town's municipal theatre. It was burnt down at the end of the Civil War in 1939, but was restored and inaugurated in 1974. Even from a distance the Dalí Theatre Museum will immediately catch your eye with its enormous glass dome, pink wall encrusted with 1500 three-cornered loaves of Catalan bread and topped with giant eggs, and some incredible statues in the square outside the entrance, all offering a taste of what awaits its visitors. The museum has a complicated array of rooms around a central semicircular garden area that contains a disused Cadillac covered in ivy containing three mannequins and various snails. C AT A L A N CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS CAGA TIÓ
This Christmas log is a smiling hollowed out piece of wood with a red barretina hat. Children "feed" him every day from the 8th December and keep him warm with a blanket. On Christmas Eve the children beat him with a stick, singing songs that demand he poops presents...and candy, nuts and figs come pouring out!
CHRISTMAS MARKETS
The most important Christmas market is the Fira de Santa Llúcia, opposite Barcelona Catherdral, in the Gothic district. The square in front of La Sagrada Família also fills with festive stalls offering traditional Christmas figurines, nativity scenes and artisan gifts.
CHRISTMAS CHARACTERS
A key character in the Catalan nativity scene is the caganer, a small figure defecating discretely behind the crib of baby Jesus. These statues symbolise fertilisation and renewal. Children love finding the caganer in the larger nativity scenes that have dozens of characters, from shepherds and kings to villagers and angels.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
Once Barcelona's street decorations are switched on at the end of November there's no denying that Christmas is just around the corner. Look out for the pretty lights in small streets of the Gothic and Born districts, and the large wall of electrified colour along Gran Via.
S K AT I N G R I N K
The grounds of the Feria de la Farga in l'Hospitalet become a covered ice-skating rink. This opens at the end of November and is popular with children and nostalgic grownups who seek the magic of stepping inside a Christmas card.
TURRร N
This traditional Christmas sweet is made with honey, sugar, egg whites and almonds or other nuts. Turrรณn de Jijona is a soft blend with ground almonds and oil, which makes it more sticky. Turrรณn de Alicante is a hard block made with whole almonds. There are many other variations of with additional ingredients such as chocolate, puffed rice and candied fruits.
