In your apartment
· · ·
Please keep quiet between 22:00 and 8:00. Your neighbours will appreciate this, as they are not on holiday. Lower your voices as soon as you enter the building as sound carries up the stairs, and some people may also have the window open. Make sure doors and windows are locked when you leave the apartment to prevent theft. Don't leave money or valuables in your room. Use a safe deposit box.
Protect your belongings
· · ·
Keep your luggage in sight, or use a left luggage service. Make sure bags are always closed. Protect your personal belongings, especially in crowded areas such as the city centre, La Rambla, public transport and the beach. You may wish to leave your passport or identity card in your hotel or apartment's safe, and carry a certified photocopy instead.

2. BORN This trendy cultural hub is an up-andcoming fashion district with plenty of independent boutiques that specialise in one-off items and contemporary fashion. Many of the best shops are in Carrer Rec, Carrer dels Flassaders, and in the small streets off Rambla del Born.

GHOST METRO STATIONS
BRUNCH O'CLOCK
There are several hidden metro stations in Barcelona, such as Gaudí, Correos, Banco, and Travessera. Gaudí is one of the few stations that are visible, and some people have even claimed to see ghosts waiting on its platform. It eventually became the Sagrada Família metro stop. Gaudí station’s platforms are visible from the train and can be glimpsed through the window just outside the metro station towards Sagrada Familia in the direction of Sant Pau Dos de Maig (L5).
It's too late for breakfast, but not quite lunch time... so where should you be heading? The Citizen Cafe has a cosy ambience and delicious brunch menu at Pl. Urquinaona, 4. From a lip-smacking full English to variations on the theme of Eggs Benedict and jazzy omelets head to The Benedict on Gignas 23. Recovery Brunch at the fabulous Milk Bar offers all kinds of smoothies, eggs, pancakes, salads... and they whip up a mean Bloody Mary, at Gignas 21.

BARCELONA E E R F R O F TAPAS WITH YOUR DRINKS
MARVEL AT THE MAGIC FOUNTAINS
Did you know that tapas originated in Andalucia, and were small portions of food offered for free to accompany drinks in a bar? What you also might not know is that there are a few bars in Barcelona who continue this tradition. Some of our favourites include Bar Mingus in the Gothic neighbourhood (Ataülf, 6), Cal Chusco in Barceloneta (l’Almirall Aixada, 5) and Atrapatapa in the Eixample (Comte d’Urgell, 77).
This is an amazing water and light show, and definitely worth including in your must-do list when you visit Barcelona. Jets of water dance to the accompaniment of an artistically choreographed music and light show. Show times in November and December are from 20:00-21:00 every Thurs, Fri and Sat.
MUSEUM ENTRY Many of the city’s best museums offer free entry all day on the first Sunday of the month. These include the Cosmocaixa Science Museum, Catalonia National Art Museum (MNAC), Barcelona History Museum (MUHBA), Picasso Museum, Maritime Museum and Music Museum. The MNAC is also free every Saturday from 15:00, and the MUHBA and Barcelona Centre for Contemporary Culture (CCCB) are free every Sunday from 15:00. 20

GLIDE ABOVE HOT AIR BALLOON Ready for some stunning views and spectacular scenery? Take a tour of the surrounding Catalan landscape from the air and float across areas of natural beauty such as Montseny natural park, Cardedeu and the Pyrenees. Hot air balloon trips usually last around 1.5 hours, and can include a champagne breakfast. www.ballooning.es
TIBIDABO VIEWS HIKE OR BUS TO THE TOP Tibidabo is part of the Collserola mountain range that lies behind Barcelona. The Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor that sits perched on top was built in the 20th century and was consecrated as a “minor basilica” in 1961. It is illuminated by night and stands out on Barcelona’s nocturnal skyline. The views are simply spectacular.

These 45 minute tours of Barcelona from the air will reveal all the city's top sights from a unique birds' eye perspective. W E E K E N D TRIP T R I P WEEKEND
AND RRA The smallest country in Europe is only a few hours from Barcelona. Its natural landscapes, culture and of course duty-free shopping are worth discovering with a weekend trip. It is also an internationally renowned ski destination which has excellent pistes and services. The season ski usually starts at the beginning of December and ends in mid-April, although this depends on snow conditions.
GRANDVALIRA This is the largest and most legendary resort in Andorra, with spectacular landscapes and panoramic views. It has 110 pistes of all levels spread over 193km and plenty of good snowboarding runs. Grandvalira is an amalgamation of 6 resorts, including Pas de la Casa, Gran Roig and El Tarter, and a skipass for the whole area is available. www.grandvalira.com
VALLNORD The second largest ski area in Andorra is located in the northern valleys. You can enjoy 100km of slopes, as well as a wide variety of activities for non-skiers. There are two ski resorts in Vallnord: Pal Arinsal, and Ordino Arcalis. Both are connected by cable car and have hotels at the foot of the slopes. www.vallnord.com 26

SEASONAL TRADITIONS C AGA T I Ă“ This Christmas log is a smiling hollowed out piece of wood with a red barretina hat. Children "feed" him every day from the 8th December and keep him warm with a blanket. On Christmas Eve the children beat him with a stick, singing songs that demand he poops presents...and candy, nuts and figs come pouring out!
E L C AG A N E R A key character in the Catalan nativity scene is the caganer, a small figure defecating discretely behind the crib of baby Jesus. These statues symbolise fertilisation and renewal. Children love finding the caganer in the larger nativity scenes that have dozens of characters, from shepherds and kings to villagers and angels.

This was once the Roman town of Barcino, and you'll find parts of the old Roman wall, tombs, and even columns from the Temple of Augustus. EIXAMPLE Home of Modernism The first thing you'll notice is this district's distinctive grid structure with roads that cross in diamond-shaped blocks. The Eixample was built between 1850-1910 and is renowned for its many Modernist buildings created by different architects. It is a busy commercial area, with elegant shops, trendy restaurants and comfortable hotels. You'll find an area nicknamed the “Gayxample,” for its gay community and nightlife.
