3-star Victorian hotel and a visit to Osborne House!

Our hotel is an elegant 3-star set in mature grounds a few minutes’ walk from the ‘old village’ area of Shanklin. It is uniquely located on an elevated position with coastal vistas and views of the Luccombe Downs. In the run up to Christmas it is decorated with garlands, cinnamon and bunches of holly. A highlight of the holiday is a visit to Osborne House, former home of Queen Victoria.

Monday To Portsmouth and free time at Gunwharf Quay before we make the crossing to the Isle of Wight. Then on to our hotel and tea and mince pies on arrival. Tours whilst at resort

A | We visit Osborne House and later make a short stop in West Cowes, a pretty little town with plenty of shopping and yachts galore!

B | We view the magnificent coastal scenery along the south of the island as we travel to Alum Bay overlooking the Needles. We also make stops in the harbour town of Yarmouth and Godshill, a very picturesque village with its cluster of thatched cottages.

C | A free day to explore Shanklin or join the coach for an afternoon visit to nearby Ryde. Ryde is the largest town on the Island and in addition to an expanse of sandy beaches, which stretch right along the town, it has a great selection of boutique shops, museums and galleries.

Friday We return home via the ferry to Portsmouth and spend time in Winchester on our return.

Isle of Wight Sandown

Our base is the fabulous Trouville which is centrally located on Sandown seafront with panoramic views, the feedback since 2021 has been outstanding. All twin and double rooms come with a sea view and single travellers have the option to upgrade for £20 per night. The Isle of Wight has stunning coastlines, gorgeous countryside, vibrant towns, and award-winning attractions all on one beautiful, picturesque island. Our tours to the island are based in Sandown. Sheltered in a beautiful bay, the resort is famed for its golden sandy beach and the traditional British seafront and pier.

Monday We cross by ferry to the Isle of Wight and on to our hotel in Sandown.

Tours whilst at resort

A | We view the magnificent coastal scenery along the south of the island as we travel to Alum Bay overlooking the Needles. Later we call in at Yarmouth with its continental atmosphere and picturesque harbour.

B | In the morning we visit Shanklin, a traditional seaside town that regularly tops the charts for the number of sunshine hours and boasts a great beach, shops and cafes. It also has an old town that is worth exploring. After returning to our hotel for lunch we spend the afternoon in Ryde. This is the largest town on the Island and, in addition to an expanse of sandy beaches, stretching right along the town, it has a great selection of boutique shops, museums and galleries.

C | To West Cowes, beautifully set on the estuary with its busy harbour and narrow streets, and on to Newport, the island’s attractive capital at the head of the river. Friday A final drive across the island before catching our ferry back to the mainland.
