Including full day on Orkney with local guide and six visits!

A fantastic journey right up to the northern tip of the Highlands and including a day on Orkney. Orkney is a group of seventy islands, the closest of which is just six-miles off the mainland. We spend a day on the island with a local guide and visit the world heritage sites of Skara Brae, the Standing Stones of Stenness and the Ring of Brodgar. Plus, Scapa Flow, the Churchill Barriers, the Italian Chapel, and the Island’s capital, Kirkwall with its magnificent cathedral. Whilst in the far north we also spend another day enjoying the castle & gardens of Mey plus, John O’Groats. We travel through Scotland on different Highland routes, one way taking in the Cairngorms and on the other Loch Ness and Glencoe. This holiday sold out quickly in 2023!

Sunday To Scotland and the 3-star King Robert Hotel in Stirling.

Monday Glorious Highland scenery as we travel north through the Cairgorms with stops in Pitlochry and Inverness. Then on to Castletown on the North coast, our base for three nights.

Tuesday We catch the ninety-minute ferry to Orkney where we are met by our guide for the day. We have a full tour of Orkney taking in amongst other things Skara Brae, an amazing Neolithic village that lay buried by sand for 4,000 years; the stone Ring of Brodgar, the delightful chapel built by Italian POWs and the sunken remains of battleships scuppered at Scapa Flow. We return late afternoon to the mainland.

Wednesday A relaxing day as we visit the castle and gardens of Mey, once the much-adored home of the Queen Mother, who saved it from ruin in 1952. We also visit the famous John O’Groats and then views north back to the Orkney Islands as we visit Dunnet Head, the most northerly point on mainland Britain.

Thursday We return on a different route along the banks of Loch Ness and then views of Ben Nevis as we pass through Glencoe. Our lunch time stop is in Fort William and we return to our overnight hotel in Stirling.

Friday We travel south and home.

Main: Castletown Hotel, Castletown Family-run hotel nestled in the heart of this picturesque village with first class food.
