Including Dover Castle, Battle of Britain Memorial, winery & Kent coast!

Kent has played a significant role in Britain’s maritime history, being on the frontline of England’s shores. Our tour includes a visit to Dover Castle and its evocative wartime tunnels, the Battle of Britain Memorial atop the White Cliffs plus a winery and plenty of fine coastal scenery.

Monday We travel to Kent with a lunch break in Guildford. We have a hot drink waiting for us on arrival.

Tuesday To Dover Castle where the 1940 ‘Miracle of Dunkirk’ is brought to life in its unique Secret Wartime Tunnels. There is also an underground hospital and Fire Command Post attraction. Later, we stop at the Battle of Britain Memorial, a peaceful spot that celebrates the heroes of the battle in a unique location high on the white cliffs.

Wednesday We travel through the Romney Marshes to visit Rye. It was a medieval citadel by the sea, but now lies inland as is home to a myriad of art, curiosities and shops with nooks and crannies to explore and distant views across Romney Marsh to ponder. Then we have a visit and tasting at Chapel Down Winery which is located nearby in beautiful Kent countryside. Finally we make a short afternoon stop in the picturesque market town of Tenterden.

Thursday Enjoy the best of the Kent Coast as we first travel to Deal, a unique and special place that is classed as the prettiest seaside town in Kent. Then on to Margate, the original seaside destination and now home to the Turner Contemporary. Turner once said that Margate has ‘the loveliest skies in all of Europe’. Friday We return home with a stop in Windsor.
