Discover Catherine Best’s award-winning jewellery
The story of Catherine Best’s rise to critical acclaim began three decades ago when she embarked on a night course to study the art of jewellery making. Her love of the craft and passion for design was the beginning of a successful family business, popular with locals and visitors alike.
Today, Catherine Best remains a family business with mother and daughters working alongside each other to create beautiful jewellery influenced by the natural elements of the island. Vikki, who is a designer and head of operations, creates some of the beautiful pieces on sale in the iconic windmill, while Penelope heads up PR and marketing from the new Mayfair boutique.
Visiting Catherine Best’s Jersey showroom is no ordinary shopping experience. Within the lovingly restored granite walls at St Peter’s Windmill, dating back to 1837, is where visitors will find Catherine Best’s collections, the jewellery manufacturing workshop and the Windmill Inn café.
Creating masterpieces
Visitors can experience the art of making jewellery first-hand, safely behind the viewing glass, from where they can watch the talented team use the tools and technology required to create Catherine’s innovative collections of jewellery. Marvel at the skill of the master craftspeople bringing the designs to life,
building up the layers of metal to give depth to their creations. With some pieces taking 60 or more hours to create, the skill and patience of these workers cannot be overestimated.
Witnessing such raw creative skill in a technological age is awe-inspiring. When you purchase something from the Catherine Best collection, you aren’t just buying a piece of jewellery, but a unique piece of craftwork that has been handmade in Jersey.
What’s new?
Catherine Best is renowned for working with exquisite gemstones and this collection is no exception. The limited edition Lake Taupo stud earrings made with stunning green/blue Eyris Pearls are handmade and set in 18ct gold to accentuate their natural beauty.
Sourced from the untouched coastline of New Zealand, using sustainable methods, these pearls are exclusively stocked by Catherine Best in the UK. A certificate detailing the diver’s name and a thorough description of the pearl, including size, colour and quality, accompanies every pearl harvested so you can be certain of its authenticity.
“Eyris pearl captures your eye and draws you closer, and the movement makes the colours dance like sunlight on crystal clear water,” says Catherine. “Each design is brought to life by our team of exceptional goldsmiths, so you can be confident of their remarkable quality.”
Named after one of the most serene bays in Jersey, the limited edition Petit Port Pendant features elegant flowing lines inspired by the calming waves of the ocean. A vailable in a variety of precious metals, the pendant is hand-polished to a brilliant finish by our master craftsmen.
L-R Vikki, Catherine and Penelope
Last, but certainly not least, Catherine’s St Lucia ring is the ultimate romantic offering with its vibrant blue Paraiba tourmaline set in a beautiful mix of yellow gold and platinum. Handmade by master craftsmen, these limited edition pieces are finished with diamonds to add that extra sparkle, creating a true piece of art to be treasured forever.
View these pieces, along with other collections, in Catherine’s showroom where there is something to suit every budget. Silver jewellery starts at a modest £90, with limited editions and personalised design pieces available, with your choice of stones and engraving, on request. Jewellery can also be repaired or redesigned into something completely new that can be enjoyed for years to come.

APIECE OF JERSEY Discovering the inspiration behind local designs
Jersey-based jewellery designer Chenny Aouane’s eye-catching creations truly stand out from the crowd. Each of her creations telling a story of Jersey.
Chenny’s story began 14 years ago when she and her French husband visited the island and fell under its spell. der its spell. When her husband was offered a job in Jersey two years later they moved and the rest, as they say, is history. ay, is history.
“I have very special childhood memories, which have inspired many of my designs, but it was also a difficult also a difficult time,” she reflected. “I was always creative, but my family didn’t have a lot of money and they couldn’t afford ey couldn’t afford to fund university design courses for me. My mum was incredibly brave and strong, and sank every penny she ank every penny she had into my education, but the only course we could afford was business studies.” explains Chenny. “I took ains Chenny. “I took the first step when I moved here and opened Jersey Gems. Designing jewellery satisfied my thirst for exploring ed my thirst for exploringmy thirst for explori the creative side of my personality and expressing the other cultures I have experienced over the years.” nced over the years.”
Chenny reveals that Jersey’s landscape is the most inspirational element in her design, picking St design, picking St Ouen’s bay as her favourite place in Jersey. In fact, the colourful sails and surfers filling the bay on fers filling thebay on hot summer days influenced her design of the Sails of Jersey collection.“The Sand Dunes .“The Sand Dunes in the west coast of Jersey, is the favourite rural place for our family walks. La Corbière lighthouse is my favourite place, The sunset view from the wh ew from the clifftop is marvellous and that’s where the inspiration of my latest design “Waterthe cliff “Watersplash” and La Corbière” comes.” splash
“I’m fascinated by the changing colour of our local Jersey Ormer Shells, this unique type of “I’ ue type of mother of pearls has the most amazing rainbow colour. All the shells are hand selected and m cted and set into silver along with other gems,” says Chenny. “The waves, the sails and even the se e pebbles. Everything around me here could be a new inspiration.” The Map of Jersey charm pe m pendant is made with Jersey Ormer Shell and Jersey Granite, each piece has its own unique pend colour and natural stone pattern. Jersey’s local granite has the most unique and beautiful colour colour collection ranging from pink-brown to deep red-brown to black. “I have also designed a range of collectio

The Born to Impress baroque pearl collections are influenced by both Chenny’s oriental heritage and European culture. With its bright coloured gemstones, mixing 18ct yellow gold with black rhodium and sterling silver, it gives the bold and stunning effect to this collection. Also part of the collection is the handcrafted Woodland Hunter Spider Ring – a unique statement piece of artwork with its intricate tree trunk detail.
“What interests me in this collection is the “What challenge to create something as little as a piece challe of jewellery and endow it with lots of meaning of jew and detail,” reveals Chenny. “We only pick the and most beautiful pearls to work with.
