Jersey’s rich soil and balmy weather provide the perfect conditions for palms and other exotic varities of plants to thrive. As a result there is a plethora of impressive gardens, some of which are open to visitors, so make sure you explore the island’s horticultural hotspots.

Cooke’s Rose Farm

Take a leisurely walk around the organic meadows and rose garden, keeping an eye out for red squirrels and wildfowl. Stock up on locally produced vegetables, honey, chutneys, marmalades and free range eggs.

Jersey Lavender

Open from Tuesday to Sunday between April and early October, this working farm is devoted to growing, harvesting, distilling and drying lavender. See the splendour of lavender in full bloom from early June to August. Tour the gardens, discover the nature trail, enjoy lunch or afternoon tea at the Sprigs Café and treat yourself to some Lavender Farm magic from the Sprigs shop.

Judith Quérée’s Garden

This small award-winning garden contains many rare and unusual plants, including thousands of perennials from across the globe. The large bog garden contains a collection of over 80 water-loving irises and many other plants that relish the damp conditions, such as primulas, lobelias and trollius. The garden is open from Monday 20th April to Friday 16th October by appointment only.

La Chaire Gardens

These extensive gardens and grounds, which cover some eight and a half acres, are steeped in history. Explore the crumbling walls, stone steps, weed- covered terracing and giant, ancient, evergreen trees, as well as the last traces of the exotic botanical garden.

Samarès Manor
