Registration Dates: Summer 2019 See page 106 for registration information. For more information, visit www.barringtonparkdistrict.org. Lottery Resident Registration Begins: when the brochure is received. Residents may mail-in, fax or drop off registrations until 4:00pm on 4/7. All Lottery Resident Registrations received prior to 4:00pm on 4/7 will be randomly processed before resident registraton begins on 4/9. Any resident registration received after 4/7 will be randomly processed beginning at 7:00am on 4/9. Standard (Regular) Resident Registration Begins: 4/9 at 7:00am. Residents may register online, mail-in, fax or drop off registrations. Non-electronic registrations will be processed in the order in which they were received on a first-come, first-served basis. Non-Resident/Open Registration Begins: 4/16 at 7:00am. All Non-resident registrations received prior to 4/16 will be held and then entered in a random order at this time. A new and exciting inclusive playground will be installed late spring in Concord Park, formerly Meinhard Park. The Barrington Park District was awarded the 2019 Illinois Park & Recreation Association’s Healthy Play and Recreation Initiative which will provide assistance in the development of this inclusive playground in the amount of $32,289.50. The initiative is a partnership between IPRA, PlayCore and GameTime to promote education and research-based best practices in the creation of play. The restoration of Flint Creek running from Langendorf Park, through the Village of Barrington’s property and concluding at Hart Road on School District 220’s property will begin this year. The Flint Creek Dreamway Restoration Project was initiated by Joe Kelsh who passed away in September 2017. We are pleased to have received an IEPA grant of $340,000.00 toward the $566,000.00 project. This spring, a new filtration system will be installed at the Aqualusion Pool. The pool is scheduled to open Memorial Day weekend, however, opening day may be changed based upon the completion of the new filtration system. We will keep patrons and residents notified via our website, facebook, e-mail and the marquee on Route 14. Sincerely,

8th Annual Barrington Area

Barrington Breakfast Rotary

KidFest is a FREE, fun, family event that gets the entire family outside and moving. Barrington Breakfast Rotary Club and the Barrington Park District come together to host this fabulous community event, along with over 20 other different organizations. This is a FREE event located at Citizen’s Park. When you and your family arrive at the park, check in at one of the registration tents to get your All Access Wristband to participate in all of the activities. Then, pick up a free kite (for ages 2-10), provided by the Barrington Breakfast Rotary Club, and fly it in the big open field. At your leisure, experience each of the activity stations. Climb a tree, build a birdhouse, race your parents, do an obstacle course or explore the creatures that live in the pond. Food and drinks available for purchase from Rotary Grill! We have something for everyone to enjoy and it’s ALL FREE! This event is very popular and parking is limited. FREE kites will be provided to all children ages 2-10. One kite per child. The KidFest mission is to provide activities that inspire healthy habits, expose nature opportunities in the area and to encourage families to get up and explore the great outdoors. Our goal is to inspire families to go for a hike, a bicycle ride, play catch, fish, play frisbee and of course, Fly A Kite!

Family Campout Saturday - Sunday June 15 - 16 5:00pm Saturday to 8:30am Sunday Citizens Park - For all ages (must be accompanied by an adult)! Join the Barrington Park District for a memorable evening under the stars, camping out at Citizens Park. It’s a great way for novice campers and families to become familiar with the joys of camping without venturing too far into the wilderness! The Park District will provide grilled burgers, hot dogs, chips, and a drink. The finale of the evening will be a campfire where participants will enjoy roasting marshmallows for s’mores. Bring the family together for an evening of cardboard boat races. Families will build their own seaworthy boat out of cardboard and duct tape (provided by the Park District). All supplies for decorating your boat will also be provided. Each team will need to bring their own paddles. Please do not bring any additional supplies. Awards ceremony will follow the races. Ethan Bell Band

With their skillfully led instrumentals, creative cover mashups, and new songs that blur the line between country, pop and hip-hop, The Ethan Bell Band has been humbly compared to their influencers - Zac Brown Band and Florida Georgia Line. While currently playing over 125 shows a year in the club, casino and festival circuit all over the Midwest and Nashville, The Ethan Bell Band has already opened for Chase Bryant, The Marshall Tucker Band, Love and Theft, and Dylan Scott. Their first two singles, “Party Bus” and “Hold You Now” are gaining buzz as the band tirelessly promotes their releases at local radio, and internet stations. Safety Town

AGES: CHILDREN ENTERING KINDERGARTEN OR FIRST GRADE, WHO HAVE NOT PREVIOUSLY PARTICIPATED IN SAFETY TOWN. Safety Town, held in a miniature layout of a real town, is a hands-on educational opportunity for children to learn all types of safety lessons. Children who are entering kindergarten or first grade are eligible (must be five years old by September 1, 2019). Multiple sessions will be offered during the Summer of 2019, with classes held Monday through Friday. Each child attends one, 2-1/2 hour session per day, for two weeks. 23rd Annual Duck Race and Pool Party Saturday, August 10, 2019 4:00 - 7:00pm Aqualusion Pool in Langendorf Park Free for all Ages! www.journeycare.org/duckracE Join JourneyCare to celebrate over 20 years of “spec-Quack-ular” competition at the annual Barrington Duck Races and Pool Party. Adopt a duck or two…make it an entire flock…watch them race down the slides… who will be the lucky ducks at the finish line? The highlight of the event is the race itself. Hundreds of colorful plastic ducks take off down the water slide and race to the finish. Participants have a chance to win prizes by adopting (purchasing) ducks. Each duck is numbered, and the numbers of the winning ducks will be announced after each race. Swimming, food and games will be available for the entire family. The event benefits JourneyCare for Children, which provides specialized, compassionate care and support for infants, children and families facing serious or life-limiting illness or loss.

Information for Residents with Disabilities: NISRA Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association Do you know someone with a disability who would like to go out, have fun and make friends, but needs a little special assistance? Since 1976, the Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association (NISRA) has provided recreation programs for people with disabilities, with the objective of enriching their lives through meaningful recreation experiences. Socializing, building physical skills, learning, relaxation and fun are some of the benefits gained from participating in NISRA’s year round activities. Sports, fitness, social, cultural, outdoor and preschool programs, along with camps, special events and trips offer enjoyment for children, teens and adults of all ability levels. NISRA also offers Special Olympics training and competition in 16 sports. NISRA’s full time professional recreation staff hold college degrees in therapeutic recreation or related fields, along with various certifications. Part-time staff and volunteers help people with disabilities learn new skills and have fun. Do you have a talent to share and some time to give? Camp Theme Descriptions: Ooey, Gooey Science Lab

Push up your sleeves and get ready for some ooey, gooey MESSY fun. Campers will explore gooey science and ooey, gooey, slimy recipes. Please send your child in clothes that can get messy.

Dinosaur Dig!

Let’s put on our hardhats, grab our tools, and go searching for DINOSAURS! We will go on an expedition and search for clues about these fascinating creatures. Along the way, we will meet the T-Rex, Stegosaurus and a few others.

Tiny Chefs

Little chefs in the making! This camp will include activities learning about different ingredients and discussing the changes in consistency as they work together to make delicious food! At the end of each class, the little chefs will enjoy eating their handiwork!

Art in the Park

Get your little artist ready for their creative side to come out! This camp will include activities creating unique artwork using various traditional materials found in nature such as feathers, leaves, pebbles and more!

It’s A Jungle Out There!

Come stomp like the elephants, swing like the monkeys and roar like the tigers. We’ll explore all our favorite animals through song, movement, crafts, stories, games and more!

My First Camp: Mrs. Wishy-Washy’s Farm AGES: 2½ - 3½ YEARS without parent Come learn what living on Mrs. Wishy-Washy’s Farm is like! My First Camp is designed to help young children transition into a structured program, while gaining independence and fostering socialization skills. Story time, crafts and motor skill development will help your child get ready for their next classroom adventure. Each week will have a fun farm theme. AGES: 4 - 6 YEARS by FIRST DAY OF CAMP This great one-week camp gives campers the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of fun and exciting activities throughout Citizens Park. Sportsters Camp AGES: 6 - 11 YEARS by FIRST DAY OF CAMP This camp is perfect for your young athlete that is looking to get a taste of a TON of sports and athletic activities. Cheer, Dance and Poms Camp grades: 1 - 5 in fall 2019 This camp is a great opportunity to learn dance techniques/routines, cheers, poms, proper stretching and warm-up exercises while having lots of fun! There will be fun-themed days with related arts and crafts, activities and games; on the last day of camp, there will be a final performance for parents, friends, and family to come and watch. Jr. Counselors in Training Ages: 12 - 15 YEARS Our Jr. Counselors in Training program is a four-day session for teens to learn how to lead and plan camp activities, implement safety procedures, and understand the benefits of working in a team environment. This program is designed to help participants develop self-esteem, confidence, and the ability to assume responsibility. Whether your teen is considering a camp counselor position, babysitting, or other “first job” opportunities, this program provides a valuable training experience. Upon completion of the program, students who wish to be considered for a volunteer position with the BPD must go through a formal interview process the week of 5/20. If the Jr. C.I.T. completes the interview process successfully, he/she will be placed at a camp to volunteer for one week of the summer. Participants attending the C.I.T. program are not guaranteed a volunteer aide position at one of the district’s summer camps. We’ll enjoy a balanced blend of arts and crafts, science, sports and games. Monday through Thursday, campers challenge their imagination and skills at our “Activity Stations” from 9:00am-12:00pm, followed by an afternoon of pool time on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Each Wednesday children will enjoy “Wacky Wednesday” activities in the afternoon and each Friday we will go on a field trip. This is an outdoor based camp, with indoor space reserved during inclement weather. Parents must provide a morning snack and lunch. The Park District will provide a light afternoon snack. Pool - Rules and Amenities

Aqualusion Pool Rules For the safety of all pool users, we ask that participants adhere to the following rules. Rule infractions are cause for dismissal from the pool. 1. Admittance is by membership (pass) or daily use fee. All persons entering the pool, including spectators, must pay a fee. 2. Season pass holders must have their pass scanned by the front desk personnel in order to enter the locker room and pool area. 3. Children 9 years and under must be under constant supervision of a person age 16 years or older. For safety reasons, children may not be left unattended on the pool deck or in the concession areas. 4. Children 5 years of age and older will not be permitted in the locker room of the opposite sex. Children must be prepared to change their clothing or walk through the locker room on their own, if necessary. When possible, the Park District recommends that a parent or adult chaperone of the same sex accompany the child through the locker room. 5. Lined bathing suits are required to enter water (unlined, mesh, or cut-off shorts, spandex, sports bras, boxer shorts, leotards, or T-shirts are not allowed). No boxers or compression shorts allowed underneath board shorts. 6. Adults are given priority for chairs. 7. Only U.S. Coastguard approved lifejackets allowed. No exceptions. 8. Food and beverage are allowed only in the designated concession and grass area. 9. Children who are not toilet trained must wear swim diapers or tight fitting plastic pants. 10. Smoking and alcohol are prohibited at all Park District facilities. 11. Strollers must be placed on grass areas only. 12. Headfirst diving is only permitted from the diving board. 13. Glass in any form is prohibited. 14. No running on the pool deck. 15. Children over 8 years old are not allowed in the zero depth pool (baby pool). 16. Street shoes are not allowed on the pool decks. 17. All swimmers are encouraged to take a shower before entering the pool.

Cell phones or Bluetooth devices may not be used at any time while in the water; this includes the zero depth pool (baby pool). 21. Pictures may not be taken in the locker room.

Amenities Splash Pad Free with pool entry 1:00 - 8:00pm. See page 24 for more info. Zero-Depth Pool (Baby Pool) For children ages 0 to 8; this small pool features water from zero to 2.5 feet and offers water play features including a polar bear slide. Activity Pool This pool offers a depth of 2.5 to 5 feet and features two 160-foot flume slides and three lap lanes (children must be 42" tall to use the slides).

Locker Room Men’s and women’s locker rooms are available. See Aqualusion Pool Rules for guidelines when using locker rooms with children. Concessions Concessions are available throughout the day when the pool is open to the public (see pool open swim hours on page 21).

Pool Closings

The following conditions may warrant closing of the Aqualusion Pool: inclement weather (i.e. thunder, lightening, tornado), air temperature below 68OF as recorded at O’Hare, low attendance, mechanical breakdown and/or health code requirements. Pool may close early for special events/park programming.

Deep Well Pool The Deep Well pool is 12 feet deep and features two 10-foot drop slides and a one-meter diving board (children must be 42" tall to use the Deep Well pool). www.barringtonparkdistrict.org

All of our campers and outside camp groups who visit our pool go through a swim test with our lifeguard staff. After the test, the child is given a color coded wristband that represents which areas of the pool they are allowed to swim in. The color codes are easy to understand because they follow the colors of a Stoplight.

Red - The child should only be seen in the zero depth pool (baby pool). The child should NOT be going down a waterslide.

Yellow - The child is allowed to be in the zero depth pool and the large activity pool. The child is allowed down the flume or body slides but NOT the diving board or drop slides.

Safety is a priority for the Barrington Park District. The past couple of summers, you have seen more and more youth swimmers wear wristbands. These wristbands do mean something, and you can help us keep our children safe by understanding the Wristband Safety System.

No attendant on duty. Parents or guardians are responsible for the supervision and conduct of their children at all times. Children 8 years and younger must be supervised by an adult 16 years or older. Ratio: 1 adult/5 children. Patrons with contagious diseases or infectious conditions are not allowed in the facility. No alcohol or glass containers are allowed in the splashpad. The water from splashpad is not suitable for drinking. Please use the drinking fountain. The splashpad will follow the pools safety breaks from 1:00 - 8:00pm. No running or rough play is allowed. Only bare feet or aqua socks are allowed on the splashpad play surface. Baby strollers or carriers are not allowed on the splashpad play surface. Soap, shampoos, conditioners, lotions, or body washes are not allowed on the splashpad play surface. Only clean swim apparel may be worn on the splashpad play surface. Children who are not toilet trained must wear tightly fitting plastic pants over a swim diaper. When thunder is heard, lightening is seen, or the Thorguard System is activated, all patrons must seek shelter and there will be a minimum 30 minute wait with each lightening strike and/or thunder heard. The facility will not open if the air temperature is less than 68 degrees. Climbing on the features and fences is not allowed. The splashpad may close due to: inclement weather, mechanical breakdown, health code requirements, or park district programming. Using the American Red Cross Instructional Aquatic Program, each level is progressive: Students begin at Level 1 and progress to Level 5 as they complete each level. All students will be skill-tested on the first day of lessons for each session to ensure that they are placed in the appropriate class. Level 1 - Intro to Water Skills Ages: 5 years and up Introduction to Water Skills is for those who have progressed from our infant swim and preschool classes or who are just beginning to learn to swim. AGES: 11 - 14 years Looking for the next level? Come participate in our first Jr. Lifeguarding course. This course has a strong focus on developing swimming skills to help participants meet the lifeguard prerequisites. The course also introduces participants to lifesaving skills, such as in-water rescues, use of a rescue tube, first aid, CPR/AED and the responsibilities of a lifeguard. Adult Lap Swim

June 10 â&#x20AC;&#x201C; August 2 Monday - Friday 6:00 - 8:00am & 5:00 - 7:00pm Ages 14 years and up Lap swim is available for the lap swim program and pool pass holders. Only pool pass holders may lap swim during normal pool hours. Lap swim hours may vary due to pool special events, weather or attendance. Lap Swim Guidelines Lap swim is a Park District program. If you are a member of the program, you are allowed to lap swim from 6:00 - 8:00am and 5:00 - 7:00pm, Monday - Friday only. The lap swim pass is valid during lap swim hours only and must be swiped in order to swim (sorry, no exceptions). If you fail to bring your pass, you will be required to pay the pool daily fee in order to lap swim. Not responsible for lost or stolen pass cards. Two lap lanes are guaranteed during all open swim hours. Lap swimmers are expected to circle-swim to the right when there are more than two swimmers per lane. Ages: 5 - 14 years The Stingrays Swim Team is for anyone who loves to have fun and learn new swimming skills in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. From 6/10 - 7/25, students will work on speed, strength and endurance of strokes. Regular swim meets will be held against surrounding communities. Participants should have prior swimming experience; each child will be evaluated at a “mock” meet on 6/7/19 and will be required to complete an age-appropriate diagnostic assessment. Guidelines & Rules All participants will be assessed for proper placement (no exceptions). Girls must wear swim caps. Refunds will only be given in the case of physical impairment or parent job transfer. Mandatory parent meeting during the mock swim team meet on 6/7/19 at 5:00pm. (Min/Max: 5/30).

Parties are allowed to bring their own coolers with refreshments to the rental area. Please note: refrigerator or freezer space is not available to store your food, cake, or ice cream. Glass containers or alcoholic beverages are not allowed. Please keep food within the designated lawn rental area. No food will be allowed on the pool deck at any time. Cancellation policy: you may reschedule your pool party for another date if the weather is not ideal. Refunds will not be granted unless the Park District closes the pool during the time of your scheduled pool lawn rental. Pool closing policy: at the discretion of the Pool Manager, Aqualusion may be closed at anytime without prior notice for safety, health, equipment failure, low attendance or weather conditions (air temperature 65 degrees or less, severe weather, etc).

FOR AGES 6 - 12 YEARS The Barrington Park District offers horseback riding through Woodwind Farms, a lovely country setting just 20 minutes northwest of Barrington. Horseback riding is a wonderful recreational activity that encourages children and adults to pursue not only a truly enjoyable sport but also a great form of exercise. All lessons are held in our comfortable indoor arena. REQUIRED ATTIRE All students are required to wear sturdy, hard-soled shoes or boots and long pants made of soft material. Participants are not permitted to ride in shorts, capri pants, or sandals. Helmets will be provided or you can bring your own. Safety is always our primary concern. Private Drum Lessons

AGES: 4 - 5 YEARS and 6 years AND UP These one-on-one private lessons are designed for beginner (ages 4 - 5), intermediate and advanced students. All styles, including rock, jazz, funk and blues are taught. If interested students can also learn Mallet Percussion. Each lesson is 25 minutes in length for ages 4 - 5 and 30 minutes in length for ages 6 through adult. Learn Robotics & Compete in a National Competition all in one week! AGES: 8 - 14 YEARS The Chasewood Robotics Academy is a comprehensive after school program where children are learning to design, build, and program robotic projects using LEGO Education Mindstorms EV3 and WeDo systems. Using a creative educational approach that supports Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), this class is led by Chasewood Learning’s instructors with fun, engaging, and dynamic activities. This program is open to all children 3rd - 8th grade. Students should bring a snack or a packed lunch each day of camp. Bonus for this camp: on Friday of the weeklong camp, students will apply what they have learned during the week to compete as a team in a sanctioned World Robot Olympiad (WRO) challenge. AGES: 6 - 12 YEARS Go on a Safari adventure with Young Rembrandts this summer! We will explore the exciting land and many animals that inhabit Africa. In 3 days we will draw a variety of animals in various scenes with different media. To keep things exciting, we will explore the African Safari through the fun technique of cartoon as well. We will even challenge our artistic talents by creating 2 large scenes – one in a graphic style filled with a variety of animals and another focusing on the twists and turns of a African snake completed with pastel chalks. Students will learn what their bodies can do, developing coordination and an understanding of rhythm through themed dance, stories and songs. This class also includes an introduction to tap technique, vocabulary, & fun upbeat music to encourage dancers to open doors to all styles of dance! Hip Hop +Plus - I & II: Level I: An introduction for students focusing on developing a foundation of basic Hip Hop movements, across the floor exercises, and choreography. Boys: black dance pants, black jazz shoes and black tap shoes.

Modern/Contemporary: Modern dance appeals to the creative, artistic soul in everyone because of its expressiveness and freedom of individuality. This class teaches important dance skills including fundamental principles of contraction/release, spiral, and shift of weight. The students focus on movement from the inside out, encouraging use of breath, energy, and connection. Class begins with traditional across the floor exercises, progresses into standing work, and moves to travelling phrases across the floor and incorporates fun and expressive styles of choreography. Tiny Cheers: Intro to Cheerleading

grades: k - 2 in fall 2019 Can’t wait to start cheering? Tiny Cheers is for you! Tiny Cheers is BPD’s no-cut program for Grades K-2. Girls will be cheering at one or two flag-football games and participate in the BHS Homecoming Parade. This is a great opportunity to learn cheers and mounts as well as meet new friends, feel a sense of accomplishment, get exercise and most importantly, have fun! (Min/Max: 8/16 per squad). PRACTICE INFORMATION Practices will be on Thursdays at the F&RC - Gym A from 4:00 - 5:00pm. There will be an end-of-the-year pizza party for the girls during the last practice. GAME INFORMATION Participants will cheer at one or two flag-football games during the months of September or October. Dates will be determined once schedules are created by BYF in late-August. Despite feeling or being told they couldn’t do something, they persevered to be some of the most famous people in the world. They kept “punching through” until they got what they wanted, and this is the growth mindset we want for our children. The Brave Way Self-Defense Training for Youth, Teens & Adults AGES: 12 years and up (ages 8 - 11 with parent) Originally certified by the State of Illinois to teach police officers, this is one of the easiest to learn and most effective self-defense class that you can take. We will teach you the techniques that will stop an attacker immediately. They are easy to learn and use, do not require constant practice or years of training to master, and work regardless of your age, size, strength, speed, skill or physical ability. You’ll work with a partner to learn the methods taught in class which include defenses against armed and unarmed attackers; single/multiple attackers; standing, sitting, and ground techniques; and rape defense/prevention. AGES: 10 - 14 YEARS Interested in playing volleyball with other athletes to compete against other park teams? Then our coach will develop a team and bring parity to the weekly instruction to prepare for bi-monthly matches. Match play events are normally on Sundays from 2:00 - 5:00pm at locations less than a 50-minute drive. The coachâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s lesson plan will guide the team in weekly training for 90 minutes.
