We are overwhelmed by the unquestionable strength and character of the Barrington Community. Like many of us who are on the front-lines of the pandemic, we are encouraged by the outpouring of support we have received by our patrons. Although it’s been a difficult time for all of us, your support had a direct correlation in our program offerings and the continued dedication by the Park District staff. During these difficult times we were still able to accomplish a lot. The purchase of 560 Carl Avenue (formerly Barrington Child Care) is going to help provide more programming. Four Pickleball courts have been built next to the skatepark. The courts have been busy and many are enjoying this fun and active sport. We offer lessons too! Come out and see what all the excitement is about. The Joe Kelsch Dreamway Trail is open and runs along the back of Langendorf Park to the high school. Take a walk or ride your bike along the trail. It’s beautiful. The Illinois Association of Park Districts announced that the Barrington Park District won the Intergovernmental Award for the Joe Kelsch Dreamway Trail. This was in cooperation with the Village of Barrington and District 220. The Park District has applied for an Open Space and Land Acquisition and Development Grant. This is a matching grant and should we receive this grant, it will help address many improvements at Citizens Park: tennis courts, basketball courts, trails, a new volleyball court, a playground and a bike repair station. We will find out sometime in January. I hope everyone is doing well and l Iook forward to seeing you in the parks.
Mission Statement
The Barrington Park District seeks to enhance the quality of life and the environment; to acquire, conserve, and protect natural resources; and to provide health and recreational opportunities Terry Jennings Executive Director for people of all ages and abilities in our community. 3 2022 Winter/Spring Brochure I (847) 381-0687

Park District - Preschool
Preschool
2022-2023 School Year
About Us
For over three decades, the BPD Preschool has been built on the understanding that your child’s happiness and growth are very important. We offer a developmental program with an emphasis on social, emotional, cognitive, physical and language development. Teachers encourage curiosity and strive to develop a love for learning. Each preschool day has a balanced schedule designed to address all developmental domains important to your child’s growth and development. We encourage children to socialize, interact cooperatively and gain independence so they can reach their full potential. With the support of amazing Park District facilities, parks and amenities there is so much for your child to explore!
Curriculum/Facility The preschool program includes both group and individual activities throughout the day that are playbased. Meaningful play encourages curiosity, discovery and problem solving. In our classrooms, you will find busy, happy children engaged in math, art, science, language, literacy, dramatic play, music and motor activities. Our school uses the Jolly Phonics© program (also used by School District 220) with all classes to help children learn letter sounds. We follow the Illinois Early Learning Standards and the State of Illinois DCFS guidelines. We offer 3 classrooms, a large motor room, gym and a fenced-in playground dedicated to the preschool program. Our rooms remain securely locked during school hours. Each classroom has a bathroom with a child-size toilet and sink.
Staff There are two teachers in each classroom with a maximum of eighteen children (less for the 2’s class). Teachers work as a team. Every preschool teacher is professionally qualified and dedicated to the education and development of each child enrolled in the program. Teachers keep current in teaching methods through training and attendance at educational seminars throughout the year.
Tours Parents/caregivers of prospective students are welcome to make an appointment for a tour of the preschool and observe our classes. To make an appointment for a tour, please contact Kim Sweeney at ksweeney@barringtonparkdistrict.org or (847) 304-5294.
Meet & Greet Come meet your preschool teachers and become familiar with your classroom before the school year starts! This will take place the week before school starts and each classroom will have a specific date and time. More information to come.

AGES: 5 - 10 YEARS Let your children release their inner MasterChef! Our professional chef instructors guide kid chefs by providing safe, entertaining, hands-on learning throughout the class, but it’s the kid chefs who do the prepping and cooking! Our class sessions are a BLAST for all ages! When kids get to touch the ingredients and have a hand in creating their food, they’re much more willing to try new foods. We provide all of the tools, ingredients and instruction needed to cook up a delicious, healthy and hearty after-school snack each week. Three super fun COOL-inary themes will be explored in each of our after-school cooking class sessions: • FUN-da-mentals: In our first week of class, your kid chef will develop confidence in the kitchen by learning the FUN-da-mentals: measuring, mixing, mashing, blending and more! These skills set the foundation for cooking and baking, and students will learn these skills while creating a delicious sweet treat with a nutritious twist! • Kitchen Tools PhD: Following their first week of Fun-da-mentals, students will move on to earning their Kitchen Tools PhD! Recipes provide tons of engaging and tactile learning for kids to perfect their dicing, slicing, mincing, grating, folding and chopping with a wide variety of kitchen tools, from graters and immersion blenders to whisks, wooden spoons and kid-safe kitchen knives. These kitchen tools help develop and hone fine motor skills as kid chefs prepare savory recipes together with their peers. • COOL-inary Confidence: Students will also learn to “Cook Off the Cuff” and develop their COOL-inary Confidence with fun and flexible recipes that let them choose the vegetables, herbs, and spices from a bundle of colorful and tasty options. Each hands-on, real-world class will encourage your young chef to engage all of their 5 senses while expressing their own unique culinary creativity, trying new foods, and thinking about how each component will contribute to their own tasty recipe masterpiece in the end!
