The title “IT’S ABOUT HAIM” signifies that the article is about the Los Angeles band HAIM. The bold black font aids the title to stand out and grabs the reader’s attention from the off. The typography used for HAIM in the title is the same as what HAIM themselves use; this is recognisable to HAIM fans and draws in a specific target audience. Fans of HAIM will see the same font they’ve seen many times and will stop to read just from seeing that before any of the other words in the title. Underneath the sub-title there is a byline crediting the photographer of the image on the left side of the spread, Ed Miles. It is important that photographers and journalists get credit for their contribution to the article and the magazine itself. Ed Miles’ name is in bright blue to differentiate his name from the rest of the text in the article, other than the pull quote in the article there is no other blue font. At the start of the text in the first left column where the article begins there is a drop cap. This is one of the generic codes and conventions that magazines use. The “W” being used as a drop cap is in a bold pink typography. This is to help it stand out and pink is a feminine colour, being as HAIM are all girls this adds more femininity to the article from the off. In between the second and third columns there is a pull quote. This is another one of the generic codes and conventions used by magazines. Pull quotes are used to give an insight into the article before you read the whole double page spread, and also it is one of the first things that the reader sees and it encourages the reader to read the article in full. The pull quote is also in blue and pink fonts to stand out amongst the rest of the text in the three columns and enlarged to fill out white space. Despite this, there is still a lot of white space in the article, this gives the impression that NME readers do not want to read big bulky text dominated articles. In the bottom right corner there is a page reference; this is to make the magazine easier for the readers to navigate. The image on the left side of the double page spread is of the HAIM sisters (from left to right), Alana, Este and Danielle, the three members of the band. They are in the forefront of a white background to help them stand out. The band members are recognisable to HAIM fans, having them cover the whole of the left page on the spread makes it easy for the readers, and specifically HAIM fans know that the article is about HAIM before they even read it. The fact that they are all close together leaning on Este showcases a sense of closeness and sisterly unity.
