…BUT I STILL BELIEVE IN PRINCE CHARMING With all the feminist movements and the frustration women received from men by the name of love. Fairy tales and the prince charming that would take you on a white horse and fly away. A happily ever after marriage has become a fantasy that doesn’t really go with the quick rhyme of life and the independence of women in the 21st century, a story that even a 10 years old girl won’t buy. Even Disney movies shifted the stereotypical role of the girl from the princess waiting for her prince to save her with a kiss to the rescuer or the girl who goes on an adventure to the unknown to save her people. She is now the prince charming she was waiting for (as seen in Tangled, Frozen and Moana), strong, independent woman who can manage her life well without a man. Leaving cartoon behind and back to real life, is that why we really need men in our lives for? It is great to raise a girl to be independent, have her own well, established career and can manage her life on her own but we don’t get married to find someone who would manage our lives, spend money on us

or be the source of security for us. We marry because of love and if there is a partner in a girl’s life, it should be for one and only reason which is love. Despite all the disappointments we read about, see and hear from friends and relatives about the institution of marriage and the rising rates of divorce, I still believe in prince charming but with a modern sense. I still believe in love and in families with no broken hearts, children raised and growing up with both parents. I still believe in “for better or worse” and in “they lived happily ever after”. As much as there are bad guys out there, there are better ones and it is your role to find him before walking down the aisle and never settle for less; find a modern version of prince charming that would treat you like a princess yet accept your independence. Don’t ever lose hope in love because you met the wrong guy, life is beautiful and there are millions of right guys out there who can’t wait to be with you. You are a princess and you deserve a prince charming.

Ryan Reynolds Played the Most Surprising Song While Blake Lively Was In Labor

Brad Pitt & Sienna Miller Caught Flirting

It appears Brad Pitt has officially moved on from Angelina Jolie, doing some “serious flirting” with Sienna Miller during a congratulatory dinner for their new film, The Lost City of Z. Witnesses say the pair got cozy at a restaurant near the ArcLight movie theater in Los Angeles, the movie’s premiere location, where they spent some time with a group of friends. Pitt and Miller were “heavily enjoying each other’s company,” and “were talking to each other all night,” a source told the publication. Another insider added that Pitt, who’s been caught looking frail in recent months, was “in very high spirits, which he hasn’t been for a long time. He seems to be over a hump.”

Blake Lively is a mother to two beautiful children, but giving birth to them was a bit unconventional. According to the actress, her husband Ryan Reynolds played “Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye while she was in labor. (It’s not quite the birth anthem we were expecting, but hey, at least it’s soothing. And would you expect anything different from Reynolds?)”My doctor was laughing so hard that I thought she was going to drop our baby,” Lively said. She revealed the surprising anecdote to him during a game of Fact or Fiction.

MAYA

by Maya Shiha

Spring/ Summer 2017 w

e all knew her as the young daring starlet from the award winning movie ‘Asrar El Banat’ and the young sister of gifted actresses Hala and Hana Shiha, the talented actress who took our hearts by storm Maya Shiha. This month AmiraTharwat talks to the half Lebanese actress about her newely launched fashion line MAYA. Shiha reveals all about her collection for SS 2017, what fabrics she uses, what inspires her and what distinguishes her designs.

LOUNGE 14

Where have you been since ‘Asrar El Banat’? I studied Communication Arts at LAU in Lebanon Beirut..majoring in theatre. I was planning to come back and continue my career as an actress, but then I met my husband and got married and had children. How was the shift from acting to fashion? Actually it was not quite a shift because I always had a “thing” for fashion. I love to style my friends and love to always explore with styles..and I had worked for a big fashion house in USA during our stay there in 2012-2014. I worked with Balenciaga and had gained lots of experience in fashion, buying, styling , sales and so on. So, it was kind of easy. Who supported you in your decision to run your own fashion line? My husband of course and my family from both sides encouraged and supported me. What was the influence of your father the great painter Ahmed Shiha on your designs? My father has his influence and his mark on the four of us in different ways. His artistic side is mostly what influenced us most, and also my mother actually, she is not an artist yet she is very creative and has a great sense of style. What inspires you? Everyday life inspires me. Also I like what is unusual and extra ordinary. Which fabrics do you use? I always had a love for different and unusual fabrics! I actually start with buying fabrics then I design.

Tell us more about your spring/summer collection… Spring/Summer2017 is more daring and more outspoken than my previous collections. I used different materials that are not very easy to deal with yet they have a great effect when worn. I did more dresses and skirts than ever. Describe MAYA’s ideal customer… My ideal customer is a busy yet stylish woman. A mother who is juggling so many balls yet able to keep up with fashion. What is the biggest challenge you encounter when putting your designs into life? To find the right fit. It’s not easy to tailor for different tastes and styles and body shapes, so the fit is the most challenging.

LOUNGE 16

Who are the celebrities you dream of seeing them wearing your designs? I don’t want to sound arrogant, but honestly I didn’t think of it this way. I’d much rather see everyday women wearing my designs and be happy with it. What is the favourite piece to your heart? The shirt skirt from FW 16 and the disco bow pants from this collection. Also the ruffle dress. Who are the designers you aspire to? Isabel Marant, Chloe &Mara Hoffman. In general, how do you see the development of fashion industry in Egypt? I see it very aspiring and hopefully we can compete with international brands.

LOUNGE 18

What are the fashion fauxpas that ladies do when it comes to fashion? Women should always try the piece before they wear it and never take it for granted that it will fit right. A woman should always be careful not to over colour, simplicity is king. Not everything IN will suit me. We have to choose what suits our body and style and never follow blindly what’s cool and fashionable. What are your wishes for MAYA in the future? I wish I can maintain a stable trustworthy brand that women can feel that they always find what they wish for.

Introduce yourself to Lounge readers… I’m 26 years old, I graduated from Faculty of Arts English Department at Ain Shams University, and so my studies had nothing to do with photography. I started my career at the age of 18 while I was still studying but what made me want to be a photographer is that I liked so much to be photographed. I felt that people were seeing this as a negative thing and that I am fond of myself and that it’s a very trivial thing, so I wanted to turn it into something positive. And because I love fashion and everything that’s related to it like make-up, styling and photography, so I decided to mix them all up in one job. I decided to be a fashion and celebrity photographer because it was always my dream to specialize in fashion and celebrity photographing and commercial photo shoots. I am single, I do my best to make a balance between my personal life and my work, but from my point of view and as an advice to girls and to anyone who want to start his own career I say you have to go after your dreams and achieve them in this young age because it is the most time you will feel powerful and have a lot of energy with no responsibilities or kids. When did you realize that photography is your real passion? I started to feel that photography is my passion when I realized my profile on FB was all about photography, landscapes, people’s faces, fashion and make-up. I found out that whenever I am with my friends and instead of gossiping or doing anything else I would do their make-up, style them up with my clothes and also do their hair, I do all this so that at the end I take photos of them, like a small photo session in my room or on the roof of my home. I felt that I have a big passion for photography and by time I noticed this. Also my mother had a big role because she helped me and gave me a big push to be a fashion and celebrity designer. She played the biggest part in my path as she noticed from the start my steps and she came to me and told me you love this and that so why not take it as a job for you and work on it. I then thought it over and started thinking that all that all what I do shows I love photography so why don’t I do what I love. What inspires you when preparing for a new shoot? Actually I can’t say that I get the inspiration at once or in a day or two. Before any photo shoot I take about a month to get inspirations, or I get inspired by something by coincidence and if that happens it all goes so fast. But to be honest not all people get inspirations in 24 hours, sometimes when you have an inspiration you can get distracted from the many ideas that you want to do. So, many times any artist feels the need to rest for a while and may be go away and travel in order to get a good inspiration and good outcome. For me travelling, fruits, colors, different cultures, all these get me inspirations. I could even get an inspiration from an icecream that I liked, or a cotton candy that I liked how it looks. One of my recent and favorite photo sessions was for “Dorra” and it was inspired by macroons and tea party, this was because I was having coffee at a place and I liked the colors of macroons and also the pastel colors of the place. Also because our new agency’s name is “Khalifa’s Wonderland” so it was a good idea to make it like a fantasy, like Alice in Wonderland but it was “Dorra” in Wonderland.

You did photo sessions for a lot of celebrities, which one you enjoyed working with the most? The most photo shoot that I had fun while doing and was so happy was “Dorra’s” photo shoot. The reason for that is not because it is the recent one, but because she is an amazing woman and so open to creative ideas and she likes to work with talented people, not only with big names although she has all the right to do so. She was so flexible and was OK that we do a very big theme that is totally out of the box. So it was a very big achievement for me and I liked working with her and if at any time I get the chance to work with her again I would definitely do it. And who takes the Miss. Photogenic award? I really don’t like to repeat my answer, but I have to say that the most photogenic person I ever photographed is “Dorra”. In each look, make-up, hair or dress she looked different and beautiful. You get to judge a person as being photogenic or not by trying different looks on him/her, so you can find a person looking great in one look but not in others. As for “Dorra” she looked great in all different looks, styles and make-up, that’s why she is Miss photogenic.

What are the beauty products that you can’t leave home without? My perfume “Black Orchid” by Tom Ford, each time I finish one I buy another as it’s my favorite. My make-up remover, coconut oil which is a lifestyle for me because it has many usages. Also I don’t go out without having a minimum of 3 lipsticks with different colors, mostly nude shades. Who are your favorite designers internationally and locally? Locally I like “Okhtein” for bags, and I see them as the top Egyptian fashion designers. Internationally there are a lot like “Dolce & Gabbana”, I love their prints and colors. Also “Sophia Webster” for shoes, “Prada” and “Bulghari”. What are the faux-pas that brides do when taking photos? I don’t face any problems while shooting brides. First because I am a girl so they feel at ease with me, also because I am very flexible with them as I know it’s a special day for them and they feel tense on it so I try as much as I can to be flexible. Another thing is because I am a girl and fashion is part of my work so they feel that I’ll be able to take the best shots for them more than any other male photographer would do. What are your quick tips for a perfect shot? First the photographer has to take as many shots as possible, not only two or three. Second, try to capture the moment, the very rare and random moments that not anyone can capture, as most photographers in Egypt only capture the happy faces, the smiles, the dancing parts and so on. But for me I capture more important things like happy moments between a bride and her father or between her and her husband. The face expressions for me are more important than traditional family portraits, to the extent that some couples ask for me to take photos at their wedding especially for these random shots. Another tip for photographers is that they should take care while cropping. It’s not acceptable to crop body parts like a neck, elbow or knee because it will make the shot look scary, so cropping is very important and could ruin the whole photo. Choosing the right angle is also very important and to be a talented photographer you have to take different angles that not anyone with a mobile camera can take. Last tip is for anyone not only photographers, is when you want to make a person look taller you should lower the camera and take the photo while you are lowered a little. What are the not-to-do things when taking a selfie? I am not a fan of selfies, but I could say that you don’t let the camera too close to your face. Another thing is that each one takes the selfie from the right angle of their face. For example for me I have a certain angle that I like which is the right side as it makes my face look simple and childish. Each one of us knows the right angle for them and the right profile. You have 166k followers on your instagram account nourankhalifaworld, if you could use your influence on social media to support a cause what would it be? I would 100% support all kinds of cancer disease, breast, brain, everything related to it. Also hepatitis C and heart disease. I would like to share awareness and avoid all these diseases, for a better life and for the upcoming future generations.

Maintaining a Drama Free Marriage

tying the knot and the thought of sharing your life with one person could be a scary thing, especially when this person thinks and acts in a completely different way. So when we first fall in love and then comes marriage, in the middle of all the happiness we don’t really think much of all the drama and relationship wreckers that could take place. We thought of making it easier for those who are about to walk down the aisle this month, Nora Abdallah shares some advices with you on how to keep your marriage clear from drama.

In dealing with men in particular we have to consider the different mindset they have and also that their requirements and needs might be very different from those of women. If we succeed and were able to understand these differences and how to deal and handle them, it will save us a lot of misunderstandings. One of the main things that could be mentioned is when both husband and wife are simply having a conversation where the wife wants to let him know a certain thing or talk about something she is upset from. During this time instead of complaining, whining or raising your voice, try speaking softly with clear, concise and respectful loving way. You can do that before you react; you just stop for a while and take the time you need to calm down. You can even walk away if you feel it is necessary, but explain that you need to collect your thoughts before continuing. Think about what you want to say and arrange your thoughts. Then when it is time to talk ask him that you finish all you want to say first. You will be surprised how well this works. The reason why it works is that all men need clear, concise and unemotional language to be able to listen to you, but if you keep whiningand shouting they will shut you out completely, and they are very good at doing that. LOUNGE 32

Learn and put in your mind that your husband can’t meet all of your emotional needs. Let’s be honest, women’s emotional needs could sometimes be a burden and put men under pressure. They expect that their husbands would figure out what all their needs are, and then meet them on their own. Just be realistic and know that they are not as emotional as women and apart from that it would be impossible for them to meet all of women’s emotional needs.. Another very important thing is realizing that your husband has emotional needs too that are as important as your own needs. Most of the time when women feel that their husbands are not meeting their own needs, women become hurtful and unkind to men. This would make husbands pull away because they don’t feel respected. Men need their space, not a surprising fact. By giving them space it doesn’t mean that we will just walk away and leave or that they are going to do things that upset their wives, it’s just something that they need and it’s the way they are. Men sometimes actually want to sit there and do nothing and even think of nothing literally. And when women insist on interrupting that time by asking what is wrong, it could lead to an uncalled fight. So when they need that time just let them be. At other times he might feel like playing a game

or going out with his friends, these all are legitimate things and shouldn’t be a reason for a fight. It is actually a very healthy thing for both partners to make a balance. Another thing that comes with space is privacy. Being his wife and sharing the same home and life with him doesn’t mean that there isn’t some sort of privacy anymore. This goes both ways for men and women, but its women who give themselves the right to invade their husbands’ privacy more often. It is not acceptable at all to search his stuff and belongings or check his cell phone; these are called “personal stuff” for a reason. Doing these acts make men very furious. Trying to change a man is a big no, it won’t happen. Men don’t change, people in general rarely do. One of the things we see with happy couples is that they know their partner’s differences and have pretty much stopped trying to change the other person. Instead, learn to love these differences and even flaws and imperfections. Rather than trying to change him focus on his good traits. Men also don’t like it when they feel their wives are clingy or totally dependent on them. You must be independent and able to do things by yourself, just don’t overdo it. They also need to feel that you rely on them and need them to do certain things that you can’t handle on your own. Be smart and make the balance.

Trust, security and commitment are key elements in any relationship, but having them doesn’t mean you can treat your relationship as rock solid and stop trying. Spend quality time together and be creative. Date nights should be part of every couple’s life. Men love to connect with women who bring interesting things to the table. Happy couples keep dating, telling each other they look great and doing things together. “I never said it’s going to be easy, but it’s going to be worth it” this saying applies on marriage and on working to maintain it. It requires work and a lot of compromise, but the outcome is going to be totally worth it in the end. It’s not going to be perfect all the time, and it will always have its ups and downs and struggles. It will take time for both partners to understand each other and know each other’s personality keys, so be patient and don’t rush it or give up. In the end what really matters is all the small things that adds up, such as being there for each other when one needs to vent or noticing when he needs a hug or making him his favorite meal. So just sit back, take a deep breath, and know that it’s not a war where one side has to defeat the other. It’s sharing a life together, supporting each other and above all caring for and loving each other.

The Dos and Don’ts When Choosing A Partner

w hat an interesting and quite intriguing topic, as it is one of the most non-straight forward topics that you can never simply have a perfect formula for. However, having worked for so long in the field and having had my own share of choosing partners as the years went by until I got married, I can share with you, my dear readers, the most important helpful tips that could work.

Let’s first agree that it is essential to:

Now that we got these out of the way, let’s look at what is important:

.Not have fear or desperation in the 1 equation. Letting fear guide you will a detailed list of your ideal partner’s definitely lead you to the wrong choice. 1.Make qualities and describe them in great details. .Not succumb to pressure put on you .Pay lots of attention and spend time 2 by age, society, culture, best friends 2 describing each personal quality in great and family. Once again, succumbing details. to pressure will cause you to make the wrong choice. Trust me, the wedding ring, dress and party are fabulous but won’t be that great if you are with Mr. Wrong.

.Focus on the building blocks of a good 3 relationship; communication, trust, intimacy, friendship and love when out hunting for your Mr. Right.

.Don’t commit yourself the minute you .Explore how it feels when you’re with 3 meet him and start building scenarios 4 him, if you are totally yourself then this is a in your head about how handsome he good sign. If at any point you think you need will be on your wedding day, how great he will be as a father of your kids and start naming all 3 kids you will have with him. Take it slow and let the ball roll naturally. Pushing the relationship won’t give you time to get to know him well enough.

to pretend or change then leaving is your only choice. .Stay realistic and focused on your list. 5 Thinking “I will change him or he will change after marriage” is simply wishful thinking.

.Be open to exploring all options even .Listen carefully to what he says and 4 the ones you tend to say ‘gross’ too. 6 always compare it to what he does . If you There might be more to it than what you have a match then again it’s a good choice.

perceive through first impressions.

Words are easy!!!!

.Focus on personal qualities rather 5 than a checklist of what he has or does.

physically attracted to him is a must. 7.Being he makes you laugh, then he is a 8.Ifkeeper. .Most importantly, have fun in the process. 9 Choosing someone to be with is a lifelong commitment. Take your time and do not rush. It’s a lifetime commitment, therefore worth the investment.

DR. FADY MAGDY YACOUB

Medical Artist d

r. Fady Yacoub is an Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery at Cairo University and also a Faculty Member of European academy of plastic surgery which is the biggest European Association for Plastic Surgery in the world, being one of only three non-European members from the Middle East. He is a fellow member in the University of Regensburg in Germany, spent 3 years in Germany then came back to Egypt and had his PhD to teach in both Egypt and Germany. He practices Plastic surgery in General but we have known through friends that he is the “man who knows everything about the nose “. Dr. Yacoub practices his work in his clinic “Cosmo Clinic” which has two branches in Egypt; one branch in Mohandessin, another in 6th of October and one branch in Kuwait. Amira Tharwat went upclose and personal with Dr. Fady to know more about his art of sculpture.

Nose Sculpting Face and nose surgeries are considered the highest level in Plastic Surgery, while normal level are Liposuction and Breast Augmentation which can be done by intermediate surgeons. He practices the normal surgeries of body and breasts, but he specializes in face and nose sculpting “I see nose surgery as a very fine and delicate surgery and it is more of an art than just a surgery, that’s why I specialized in it, as it is very challenging and I consider it an art of sculpting which I really like” said the 42 years old doctor who managed to keep himself a distinguished place among the Arab world’s top surgeons at such a young age. Shape Vs Function His professor in Germany was called the Pope of Rhinoplasty; he did more than 20,000 nose jobs. Dr. Fady stayed in Germany for three years, during that time there were about seven nose jobs done every day and he stresses that the nose that looks good must also breathe good and in a normal way. Part of the nose job is to make the respiration path perform in a smooth way, and when the nose looks normal, so does the breathing process. “It’s very interesting that you will find the nose that looks normal functions normal and vice versa, so I am always keen on making the patient’s nose look normal; normal is what makes a person look pretty, I hate exaggeration in everything” said Dr. Fady.

All the way from Europe, Egypt to Kuwait When I asked him about the reason behind opening a branch in Kuwait, Dr. Fady states that the idea of opening a branch in Kuwait came because of the increasing demand from Gulf countries in general and from Kuwait in particular. He is present in Kuwait’s branch five days per month. In Kuwait patients are more oriented about plastic surgeries and nose jobs in particular and this is because they are near Iran, and Iran is known to have a lot of nose surgeries as most Iranians have flaws in their noses. Iran also has very good surgeons who make great results. In general nose jobsare more common in The Gulf than in Egypt. Setting Things Right Dr. Fady mentions that sadly some patients come to him and they already had nose surgeries done but they suffer from problems with breathing in addition to the mutilated shape of the nose. When asked how challenging this is, Dr. Fady said it is very challenging specially that a lot of surgeons think that noses and specially those of people in the Middle East, requires half of the tissue to be cut off. But actually this is not the right way, as the sculpture of the nose is all about construction and building structure this is what gives support to the skin and gives good looks. It’s all about definition.“The idea is not just to make the nose smaller but to make it look better” said the Faculty member of European Academy of Plastic Surgery. Great Expectations Dr. Fady states that it is important to know the expectations of the patients, and if these expectations can’t be done through surgery then he must tell them and explain that this surgery won’t be useful or give the results that they are expecting. But, at the same time the surgeon can give the best results for the patient and make the nose look normal. He also shows them pictures to let them know what a natural, nice looking nose looks like. However, he doesn’t like the Photoshop Software that shows what the expected results of the surgery would be because he sees that anyone can use it even children but it won’t give the precise shape of the nose after the surgery. On the other hand they make 3D realistic results that are much better than Photoshop, so that the expectations of the patients are realistic and reasonable, not just an illusion. Like father like son? Dr. Fady’s 12 years old son shares his father’s passion for Plastic Surgery but he doesn’t stress on him about what he would like to become, “I think nowadays if he would be able to create an application like Snap chat, it would be more useful than being a doctor!” said Dr. Fady. Returning the Favor When asked about his wife’s role in his success, Dr. Fady said with a hilarious sense of humor “My wife is my backbone and I won’t have done it without her support, but trust me I returned the favour; ask her about

LOUNGE 38

The suitable age for having Plastic Surgery Dr. Fady says that the suitable age for girls is not less than 15 years old, because at that age the growth of the skin, especially that of the nose, is completed. And for the boys the suitable age is starting 18 to 19 years old. He also added that the most common age for nose surgery for girls is before joining university. A lot of girls come to him at that time accompanied by their mothers(who areprevious patients) and want them to look their best before entering the university. Out of the ultimate believe of Dr. Fady that medicine is based on honesty and should never be commercial or a mere business, he never performs or recommends nose surgeries before that age unless it is essential as in cases of accidents. Advice to the Bride Since it is Lounge’s wedding issue, I couldn’t help myself not asking Dr. Fady about The right time for brides to have a nose surgery before their big day. He says that a lot of brides come to him and he says he needs to have a time frame of one and a half month to two months

the Botox, filler and the support I gave back to her my way (laughs). Despite speaking freely about his wife he admits that he did surgeries to a lot of the A list celebrities in Egypt and the Arab world but he refuses to mention any of the names. “They mention my name in some of their interviews but I won’t mention them, I have an ultimate believe in the privacy of my patients to the extent that sometimes it causes me problems”. When I asked him how, he said “it happens a lot that I meet ladies in a wedding or so and they salute me with hugs and kisses but when my wife asks who is she? I never mention that she is a patient” said Dr. Yacoub. An Artist Inside Out Because nose job is more of a sculpture than surgery, Dr. Fady loves art and sculpture. He’s antique collector, His house is a piece of art with carefully chosen sculptures that are hand-made. He prefers the more sophisticated and complex kind of art as he finds it more inspiring, luxurious and artistic. His favourite place is the reception where he likes to think and relax before going to his clinic to practice art and do wonders. Being an artist inside out, music is also big part of Dr. Fady’s life, as he spends most of his time in the operation room, he listens to music all the time. He likes different kinds of music, from Classical to House and even “Mahraganat” because he says that each mood and each step of the surgery has its own kind of music. One of his favorite singers is “Caesaria Evora “ and shockingly also “Ahmed Adawya”. For him music helps to be artistic and creative as it is an art in itself.

before the wedding. This is because after the nose surgery, there is a plastic cover over the nose and after removing it with a week, the nose looks great even after one week but still swollen. The result can be seen starting from one month and a half to three months and the final results at six months. Do your Homework His advice for patients is regardless of whatever they hear about a surgeon and of how good he is they still must do their homework. This means they have to do research and take a look at his/her instagram and blog to see their work. Also to search and see whether this surgeon had any problems or did any mistakes before. It is vital to know whether they are qualified or not to practice these kinds of surgeries and to make sure they have a license. Another point is that it is not a guarantee that you will have a good and successful surgery just because you will do it abroad, what’s more important is who is the surgeon who will do it, rather than the country you will do the surgery in.

Ahmed Fahmy On Marriage, love and music a

mira Tharwat talks to actor, singer and TV presenter Ahmed Fahmy about his most anticipated TV serial La’la Se’r which is expected to be aired this Ramadan starring him along with Nelly Karim. The musician shares with us the secret of happy marital life and his tips for newly wedded couples.

You are a singer, actor and TV presenter, which is the closest to your heart? Singing is the main thing I studied; I studied music for 25 years at the Conservatoire so music is always with me and it was also useful to me in all the others things I do, simply as there must be harmony between musicians of the Orchestra, I know while acting when to be a little higher or lower. As for singing I said a long time ago that I will sing with “Wama” so singing still exist, but now all my passion is directed towards acting as I love acting so much and I am having good steps and hope I keep going in the same way. Tell us more about your role in “La’la Se’r”…. My role is Dr. Hisham who is a plastic surgeon and there are a lot of conflicts in the series but I can’t say it now because it will spoil the character. But as the title of the series suggests that everything these days has a price and can be bought with money. There are no principles or honor anymore, and we are putting the spot on this idea.

LOUNGE 40

This is the second time to play the role of a doctor after “Ser Alany”, what is the difference between each role? There is a big difference, in “Ser Alany” my part was much smaller and the character itself was limited. In my current role the character is smarter and has his own logic in dealing with situations even if this logic in general is not right. How was the atmosphere behind the scenes with Nelly Karim? She is a very good and successful actress, she is also very cooperative and supportive, she wants everyone around her to be good. She is always focused and talented by nature, so I am very happy to be working with her. What attracted you the most to the role? The main thing was the script and the director, and then of course Nelly Karim because she is a very good actress and anyone wishes to work with her. Why you apologized for participating in Ard Gaw” TV serial starring Ghada Abdel Razik expected to be aired this Ramadan as well?

I’ve always participated in only one series during Ramadan, and I felt that I won’t be able to be in tune if I did both series together. May be my decision is wrong and maybe it’s right, but I felt that I loved the role in “La’la Se’r” more and would show my acting abilities more. You told us in a previous interview that you are a typical Egyptian husband “Si El Sayed” but you said in Sherry Studio that “there is no man who doesn’t fear his wife” what happened? I am still the same, still “Si El Sayed” but at the same time I respect my wife. So I didn’t mean “fear” in it’s exact meaning, what I meant was that I might not for example tell her that I am going out to play “play station” as this would upset her. It’s more of respecting her feelings than fearing her. After a long absence from the media we started seeing your wife Amira Farrag as a TV presenter and with you in shows how do you feel about that? Well, whenever I am offered an interview and they ask me that Amira would be with

LOUNGE 41

me, I always ask her if she wants or not. She likes Abla Fahita a lot so she agreed to come with me, and also in Mona El Shazly’s show I told her and she wanted to come so she did, so it’s all her decision. Would she start acting soon or releasing an album? I don’t think she will release an album soon, but she is singing with Ayamna El Helwa, and she is doing very well with them, at the same time she is a TV presenter at Ten channel. She is thinking of making covers for some songs and post it on YouTube and she already did the opening song for a TV series but it’s not aired yet. She is having her own activities now and it’s not far-fetched that we work on something together. In your opinion what makes a happy marriage? Communication is key, in addition to compromise. It is partnership, so both each partner should give as much as possible in order for it to be a successful one. The rate of divorce in Egypt is getting higher every year, what do you think is the reason behind it? Because people misunderstand the concept of marriage. Marriage is not only about having someone I love and we are going to live together and that’s it. There is a lot deeper to it, that’s why the choice from the start is important and we shouldn’t rush into it. They should also understand that absolute romantic love is only a phase but after that there are a lot of other things. It is like when someone gets a new car, so at the start he is very happy with it and see it as the best one, but after a while he starts living with all its troubles and problems. Omar Ahmed Fahmy shows some singing talent, would you support him if he chose to become a professional singer when he grows up? Both Omar (12 years) and Hassan (6 years) are talented musically, but for me the most important thing now is Education, so the first thing is that they finish their studies and graduate from a respectable University and then they can do whatever they want. I like to offer and strengthen different things for them to do and at the end they can chose whatever they want. Beside La’la Se’r, what else are you working on? There is more than one movie script, but because of Ramadan is approaching so I don’t have any time now. After Ramadan I will decide which one I will choose. I love the season of Ramadan so it was important to me to be participating in it, and I am doing a good series this year and hopefully next one also there will be another good one.

Sherine Hamdy a

mira Tharwat talks to the fashion icon, social media influencer and recently TV presenter Sherine Hamdy about what inspires her when it comes to fashion, time management and how was the shift from youtube programme ‘Ana We Hya’ to being live on TV through Asal Abyad TV show aired on Ten TV.

LOUNGE 44

How was the shift from “Ana We Hya” on YouTube to “Asal Abyad” on Ten TV? What happened is that I went as a guest in “Asal Abyad” a few months ago, and then one of their presenters left to work in another channel so there was vacancy on the show. They already had my contacts as I was a guest, so they called me and asked if I was interested in being a presenter covering the lifestyle part in the show and I replied yes without any hesitation. Then, literally in 28 hours I met them and we agreed on everything, it all happened really fast. What was the difference between talking in front of a camera for social media and being on air on TV? The difference is quite big. On social media you get to prepare beforehand then you have all day long to shoot a five minute episode. Sometimes we spent 12 hours shooting to come up with those five minutes, because you stop in the middle, take breaks, adjust the camera. But shooting on air you suddenly find someone telling you we are live and you don’t know which camera you look at and also you have things written in front of you to read from so it’s confusing. It’s totally different but I am loving every minute of it as it’s a new experience that I’ve been hoping for. It’s true that I am still in the same field of lifestyle, fashion and make-up, but it’s done in a different way. It’s a big shift but I am enjoying every second. You studied Business and Marketing, how did this reflect on the success of your YouTube show “Ana We Hya”? Well, I don’t think that the success of “Ana We Hya” was because of what I studied, it was definitely teamwork. And I am not saying this just to sound modest, but honestly that’s the truth. They are people who understand very well what they are doing, from the Founder to the Creative Director to the whole team on board, they all contributed to its success. All the success belong to the fact that we all sat together in lots of meetings and brainstormed together. The five minute episode took a lot of effort, not only while shooting but also in preparations, meetings, e-mails and lots of prep work beforehand. I really had an amazing team which is “Tayara” company that produced the show. Your husband seems very supportive, to how extend you feel this affects the success of any married woman? Yes, definitely. My husband is extremely supportive and of course this does affect me personally and affects any married woman because in this situation she can’t be successful if her husband isn’t supportive. If he is not supportive, then he won’t give her flexible hours the support she needs in order to be successful in the field she is working in. If he is not backing her up, helping out with the kids and not understanding to her schedule and busy life, then definitely it wouldn’t be possible. I thank my husband very much for his constant support. What is the key to a happy marriage? Honestly, I think communication and trust are the most important things. If you don’t communicate your feelings to each other and there is no trust then that’s it, it doesn’t make any sense. But, as long as there is communication and you tell each other everything and you trust what you both say to each other without any doubts, then I believe that you can pass anything and have a very

happy marriage. Being a fashion icon, what inspires you the most when it comes to fashion? I’m constantly on instagram looking at accounts of bloggers, fashion designers and models. I check them all the time and this is how I get my inspiration for how I dress. I don’t look at international designers, only on instagram. Who are the designers you admire the most locally or internationally? Internationally I’d say Balmain for clothes, and Sophia Webster for shoes. Locally there are actually a lot, but definitely Kojack, Noreen Farah and Temraza, these 3 are my favorites out of a list of hundreds who are all amazing designers. What are the beauty products you can’t leave home without? I can’t leave home without putting on concealer and mascara, these two things are essential. If I am wearing full make-up and it’s already on I then must have a lipstick in my bag as it will wear out throughout the day. You are also a mother, how do you manage your time between being a mother and following your passion? I’d say lot’s and lot’s of organization. Also definitely support from my husband and my mother as you have to have people around you who are willing to help and support you, like babysitting your son or taking him somewhere, but in order to do this I have to be very organized. I make a schedule, a two week one, and I organize in it every single thing in my day with exact timings and I stick to it. Of course it happens that sometimes I could miss things, like not being able to take my son to his training, so I ask my husband to take him instead. But I try to do my best to be able to do it. So the most important thing is to be organized, but it wouldn’t have worked without the help of my husband, my mother and my father. You confessed that you are 36 years old in an interview, to how extend a woman should feel confident about saying her real age? Yes, I confessed that I am 36 years old. Actually I’m turning 36 next June, but I feel confident to say it because age is just a number, so there is no problem to say it. If you are young then say your age and be proud, especially if you have accomplished alot in such young age. Also if you are older and successful then so what?! It doesn’t matter because again it’s just a number. You have a signature hair, would you ever consider changing it? No, I would not consider changing it. Thank God I have been blessed with something that everyone say is beautiful, but I’d like to tell you that as a child I grew up hating my hair and as I watched cartoons I found that all Disney princesses had had straight long hair and then I look at myself having all these curls and can’t brush it easily, so I really hated it at that time. I only got used to it and accepted it starting my teenage years onwards, when people started giving me compliments about it so I gained confidence and felt that it’s not bad and that I look different and it’s in my character that I like being different. So, I realized how good it is and that it’s even easier to deal with because I don’t have to go to the hairdresser, I just wash it and go out. It became a trademark and people know me by it, so I wouldn’t change it.

How do you stay fit? Unfortunately I don’t have time to work out and I love food, but it’s in my lifestyle that I don’t drink any sodas and anything that contains caffeine. I drink a lot of fresh juice and eat a lot of fresh fruits, these two things are essential in my life. That doesn’t mean that I am a health freak as I do eat chocolates and sweets, but I try to make a balance between my love for sweets and desserets and eating fruits, veggies and fresh juice. What do you think are the faux-pas that Egyptian ladies do when it comes to fashion? One of the worst things is always making sure that the bag and shoes have matching colors, while actually they don’t have to be at all. So I’d really love to see people breaking that rule. Being a trend-setter and fashionista with thousands of followers on social media, what is the cause you would love to support the most? The cause I’d love to support the most is animal rights and homeless animals. I know there are a lot of humans who are homeless in Egypt, I understand that, but I see that there are a lot of charity organizations for them and also a lot of individuals help those people in need, which is a great thing. But I don’t see in our country that people care for homeless animals or animal rights in general, they don’t understand that these are living creatures with feelings just like us. There are a lot of animals on the streets that are breaking my heart every single day and very few people react to that, there isn’t enough awareness. That’s why it is the most cause I want to support, and I can actually working on something now and very soon it’s going to come to light and I really hope I can make a difference.

THE NATURAL RICH PLASMA FOUNTAIN PLATELET (PRP)SKIN REJUVENATION OF YOUTH AND ANTI-AGING

Dr. Riham Ashoush

f

ine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin can serve as unwelcome reminders of the aging process. Now women and men interested in skin rejuvenation have a new option: platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy.

A procedure that has been used successfully for years to heal sports injuries is now becoming the treatment of choice by women to improve the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage and dark circles under their eyes. PRP works on the simple basis is that of utilizing your own natural platelets to instruct the body to create new collagen for tauter, smoother and better-toned skin. If you want to have a brighter younger look, PRP is the answer‌

LOUNGE 46

What is platelet-rich plasma?

PRP is a natural product created from your own body. Your blood is essentially made up of cellular components; red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets, the fluid component; the plasma. The platelets are best known for their importance in stopping bleeding when we are injured. However, platelets also contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors that tell your skin to create

new collagen and elastin. Also, platelets can revive dormant hair follicles which makes PRP hair restoration a state of the art, non surgical, totally natural, alternative medical procedure used for the treatment of hair loss or hair thinning suitable for both men and women.

How PRP is prepared?

A blood sample is drawn in a special tube and then spin it in a centrifuge (rotating machine), which enables the separation of the blood cells from your plasma and platelets. Special platelet activators are added to your platelets to enhance growth factor release and for best outcomes and your platelet rich plasma is now ready for use. It is then reinjected into the skin to enhance stem cells to produce collagen and stimulate hair growth.

PRP harnesses the beneficial functions of the patients own platelets and therefore there is no risk of allergy or rejection of the treatment.

Is it Safe?

What’s special about this treatment: it utilizes your own blood to restore and repair both the surface and deeper layers of your skin. PRP utilizes your own cells and nutrients, which means that the body is fully receptive to the treatment as it recognizes and welcomes its own family of cells. This makes PRP extremely safe, ethical and effective.

Are there any reasons why I can’t have PRP therapy? This treatment is not recommended in pregnant females, people on anti-coagulation treatment, autoimmune conditions, have

suffered any type of cancer or who have certain implants in the treatment area. You should tell your dermatology consultant your past and present medical history, as well as your past cosmetic history to determine your suitability.

What do you expect after PRP sessions? You’ll start to notice a healthier appearance, thicker dermis (reducing wrinkles and scars), improved tone and if you’re used to filler injections you’ll notice prolonged duration of fillers because PRP prolongs and amplifies the filler correction with the need for less filler per treatment and a longer duration. In addition, PRP has been shown to revive dormant hair follicles and stimulate new hair growth.

10 Minutes of Sweat a Day Helps Kids’ Hearts

Just a bit of vigorous exercise each day could help some children and teens reduce their risk of developing heart problems and diabetes, researchers say. The new study looked at nearly 11,600 kids, aged 4 to 18, in the United States, Brazil and Europe. The investigators found that replacing light exercise with as little as 10 minutes a day of intense activity may provide significant cardio metabolic benefits for young people who have relatively large waists and elevated levels of insulin in their blood. These are factors that put them at risk for developing heart problems and metabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes.

Brain cell therapy ‘promising’ for Parkinson’s disease

Scientists believe they have found a way to treat and perhaps reverse Parkinson’s disease, by making replacement cells to mend the damaged brain. They say human brain cells can be coaxed to take over the job of the ones that are destroyed in Parkinson’s. Tests in mice with Parkinson-like symptoms showed that the therapy appeared to ease the condition. Many more studies are needed before similar tests can begin in people. Experts say the research is hugely promising, although at a very early stage.

Virus linked to celiac disease, new study finds

Could normally harmless virus cause sensitivity to gluten? A new study has found that a certain type of virus could trigger a person’s immune system to overreact to gluten, leading to celiac disease. The findings, published Thursday in Science, provide an explanation for why certain people develop celiac disease. This is the first study to show that a virus can change the way our diet is seen by the immune system. The virus turns off the body’s “peacekeeper” response to gluten, tricking the immune system into thinking gluten is a harmful invader that needs to be attacked.

Stay healthy this Ramadan at the Elixir Clinic

Do you know why your Diet isn’t working?

Losing weight isn’t easy and dieters often fail multiple times before getting it right. Calories from refined carbohydrates and sugar cause you to eat more, without feeling satisfied. Calories from healthy fats, fiber rich sources, and protein, however are metabolized differently and more likely to lead to effective weight loss. Cereal, toast with jam, or a big glass of OJ are breakfast staples, but studies show that starting the day with protein, instead of sugary carbohydrates leads to reduced hunger and cravings later in the day.

make mistakes but at least make new ones. I worked with people over different cultures, languages and markets, that poses challenges in itself, it was great and an eye opener for me, it makes me the flexible and open minded person that I am today Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at the First Residence is one of the most sophisticated hotels in Egypt and worldwide, how do you manage to keep its distinguished position among other hotels in Cairo? Stick to the Golden Rule – Treat others how you want to be treated. Live, work and believe in that philosophy in your work and personal life. We make sure that the small things count, the personal experiences, the small touches that’s what a guest will remember, how did that guest feel during his or her stay with us? What memorable experiences can we convey? Luxury plays a huge role, and thats what Four Seasons is all about, a luxurious memorable, personalized experience. We focus on the highest quality, there are no short cuts, service has to be impeccable and personalized and tailor made for every single guest. Besides being one of the top Marketing directors in Egypt what are your hobbies? When I have time I like to do relaxing sports, did Yoga and Pilates for a while. I enjoy swimming and in free time love reading and love listening to music. It really affects my mood. Travelling is something I love doing as well. If you were not working in the hotels industry, what would you like to be? I reckon I would have made a good Lawyer.

Behind every successful woman, a man or herself? Definitely a mixture of a lot, my husband is one of my great supporters, a person who believes in me and someone I can bounce off ideas, thoughts, he is also my critic and helps me see things about me that I would not necessarily realize about myself. Of course, your successes are a mix of your experiences you have gained in your life, good and bad, every experience makes you that better person. Success is overrated, do what makes you happy, never for anyone else, do things that makes you a better person, learn to give as much as you get. How do you see the future of business in Egypt in 2017? Egypt as we all know has huge potential if channelled correctly and if managed properly. The general trend is on the upwards but more efforts need to be invested in local industries, more education, more training to really give Egypt its worthwhile position. Signs you are

BRIDEZILLA

y

ou know the warning signs; toddler-like tantrums, mascarastained cheeks and fights with your besties. This month Lounge brought you signs you’ve become a Bridezilla.

1. 2. 3.

Suddenly you became fond of yourself and when you put on your dress, you see a Disney princess in the mirror. You’ve tried every diet in the book and you’re in the gym morning, noon and night.

You never settle for less or accept alternatives, you can’t remember what compromise feels like (white is white can’t be ivory).

4. 5.

Your mom stopped taking your side, she is always your backbone and supports you but this time you are too picky for her to handle. Suddenly your friends’ weddings were a big mess, and you’ve started comparing your wedding to friends who’ve been there and done it, making sure it will be much better.

6.

You are a beautician, fashion designer, wedding planner, interior designer and event an expert baker, so you can’t stop yourself from telling the experts how to do their jobs.

7.

You make irrational demands, you want Amr Diab and Haifa in your wedding, Amr would be in Dubai by the time Haifa returns to Cairo from Beirut;

you don’t really care you want them both in the date you chose or a tantrum is about to start.

8. 9.

You’re blowing the budget and you know it, but who cares it is a once in a lifetime event.

Your bridesmaids are starting to bite back; your best friends started nagging about your mood swings and attitude to the extent that they ran out of excuses and started losing their temper and fighting back.

10.

You forgot what your groom looks like, amid all the arrangement and your obsession with the details you forget why is all that for and you started not answering your future hubby’s calls back and you don’t have time to see him.
