Dear Residents:
A Message from Our Executive Director
Serendipity shows its face in mysterious ways. Being at the right place at the right time is exactly what happened when the fundraising efforts for the Depot Museum expansion project came to a halt thanks to the pandemic. The opportunity presented itself right across the street from the Depot Museum when the Batavia Professional Building, located at 150 Houston Street, was placed on the market. The 12,420-square-foot property meets the needs of the expansion project and Park District’s recreational programming in so many ways. The Park District closed on the property on September 30th. Stay tuned as more details will emerge in the upcoming months. In partnership with the City of Batavia, the Batavia Park District has launched a comprehensive planning process for the Batavia Fox River Corridor that is intended to enhance recreational function, river ecology, cultural importance, and stewardship of Batavia’s most valuable natural resources for future generations. The Park District has engaged a consultant team of planning, designing, and engineering professionals led by Hitchcock Design Group (HDG), to develop a compelling vision for a 2-mile section of the Fox River from Fabyan Parkway to Carlisle Road, giving special attention to evaluating the function, safety, and use of the Batavia Dam and Depot Pond. A total of five dam/Depot Pond concepts were presented to the public. The community engagement summary can be found by visiting www.hitchcockdesigngroup.com/batavia-fox-river-corridor. The Batavia Depot Museum’s gift shop is ready to meet your holiday needs! Online ordering is available at bataviaparks.org. This is an awe-inspiring time of the year and we look forward to growing with you! All the best,
Allison Niemela, CPRP Executive Director

Explore the world of musical theatre through developmentally appropriate, age-based instruction in singing, acting and dancing through songs and scenes from a musical! Building ensemble and technique in character work, voice, stylized movement, and storytelling will culminate with a cabaret-style showcase for friends and family. All Broadway programs include a T-shirt.
Grades K-3 For new or beginning acting students who want to participate in the next play or musical, Beginning Acting covers the fundamentals of acting through sensory, observation, and relaxation exercises and games. Learn and practice good basic stage movement, blocking, and bodywork to move and perform with purpose. Actors will gain the groundwork to take the stage confidently.

ACT 2: Acting in Performance Grades 4-8 This class is for students who are currently in or planning to participate in a play or musical production. Through learning and applying techniques, this program works on setting each actor’s goals and addressing performance gaps through individualized coaching on techniques and methods for performance. The second half-hour will focus on the extension of the craft by digging deeper into character work, objectives, relationships and putting the words into action to develop a scene or monologue that engages the audience in the character’s world.
Singin’ in the Rain Jr.
Grades 3+ We’re all in this together in Disney Channel’s smash hit musical phenomenon featuring the students of East High. It’s the first day after winter break at East High. The Jocks, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skater Dudes all find their cliques. Basketball team captain and resident jock, Troy, discovers that the brainy Gabriella, a girl he met singing karaoke on his ski trip, has just enrolled at East High. The couple cause an upheaval when they decide to audition for the high school musical. Although many students resent the threat posed to the “status quo,” Troy and Gabriella’s alliance might just open the door for others to shine, as well. If double cast, casts will be divided by age.
Grades 5+ The greatest movie musical of all time is faithfully and lovingly adapted by Broadway legends, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, from their original award-winning screenplay in “Singin’ in the Rain.” Each unforgettable scene, song and dance is accounted for, including the show-stopping title number, complete with an onstage rainstorm! Hilarious situations, snappy dialogue and a hit-parade score of Hollywood standards make “Singin’ in the Rain” the perfect entertainment for any fan of the golden age of movie musicals.

TR I PS Holocaust Museum Skokie, Illinois
Car & Auto Show McCormick Place, Chicago
Join us for an afternoon at the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center. The mission of Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center is expressed in their founding principle: Remember the Past, Transform the Future. The Museum is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Holocaust by honoring the memories of those who were lost and by teaching universal lessons that combat hatred, prejudice, and indifference. Many exhibits will be open and available for you to enjoy during our selfguided tour. Afterward, we’ll enjoy a boxed lunch of corned beef, pickle, fresh fruit cup, cole slaw, bottled water and a chocolate chip cookie. Please note there is a lot of walking on this tour.
First staged in 1901, the Chicago Auto Show is the largest auto show in North America and has been held more times than any other auto exposition on the continent. The 2022 Chicago Auto Show utilizes nearly 500,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space in the West Building of McCormick Place and another 150,000 sq. ft. of exhibits, activations and test drives on Indiana Ave. It’s a fun day to walk around and check out all of the cars, demonstrations and displays. St. Patrick’s Day Lunch & Shopping in Naperville Quigley’s Irish Pub was designed and built in Ireland and then shipped to its current location. The interior includes an authentic antique fireplace and bookcases from Dublin, and custom glass and Irish prints fill the walls. Perfect time of year to have fish & chips or shepherd’s pie for lunch on your own! Short walk to downtown Naperville for some shopping after lunch. Trip Includes transportation only. Deadline: 03/05.
Groundhog Day at Paramount Theatre If you’re cynical weatherman Phil Connors, it’s a never-ending nightmare to be stuck in a small hick town whose biggest claim to fame is meteorologist groundhog Punxsutawney Phil. What sounds like an outlandish fantasy becomes an insightful look at discovering what you’re capable of when you finally find the selfless person within, when you lower your defenses and make the most of each day. Imagine being stuck in a time loop – wait, did we already say this? Based on the classic Bill Murray comedy, “Groundhog Day: The Musical” is full of “fertile and feverish theatrical imagination,” The New York Times raved. Nominated for seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score, Paramount Theatre is beyond proud to present the Midwest regional premiere of this uproariously funny, surprisingly touching and simply inspirational musical comedy. Prior to the show, we will have lunch at the Copley Theatre just across the street from the Paramount Theatre. Trip includes ticket, lunch and transportation. Register by 02/07.

Spring/Summer Exhibits March – July 2022 Refraction: Finding Identity Have you ever struggled to decide if that child in the beautiful dress in your old family photographs actually is great-grandpa or his sister? Do you know which First Lady cemented the idea of pink for girls and blue for boys? Learn more about the changing norms of identity and celebrate the stories of Batavians who have created their own path throughout our history.
Inspiring Expression Batavians of all skill levels from the prehistoric period to the present day have used visual art to express themselves and their view of the world. “Inspiring Expression” celebrates our community’s creativity and showcases the Museum’s deep collection of rarely seen visual artworks created and treasured by Batavia residents.
Spring Opening Reception All Ages March 4, 5:00-7:00 PM Join Depot staff for a special viewing of our dual spring exhibits- Refraction and Inspiring Expression on Friday, March 4 from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Depot Museum.
The Demise of Mary Lincoln: An Artistic Conspiracy All Ages March 25, 6:00-7:00 PM Via Zoom In the 19th century, the court of public opinion depicted Mary Lincoln as both a sainted war widow and a vilified spendthrift. Battles to control how she, and by extension her family, were viewed seemed to reflect the anxieties of a deeply conflicted nation. In one extraordinary case of hidden identity, Mary Lincoln’s image was so powerful, it trapped another woman under layers of paint and varnish for nearly a hundred years. Hear this remarkable story from the man who uncovered the truth, professional art conservationist Barry Bauman.

If application is received less than 5 business days prior to start of program and it causes enrollment to fall below minimum and the spot cannot be filled; no refund will be given. • Refunds After Start of Program; Refund requests received after the second meeting of the program will not receive a refund with the exception of a written medical excuse prior to completion of the program. Fees will be pro-rated starting with the day the refund form is received in the Park District office. A $5 service charge and program supply costs will be deducted from the amount of refund for each program, including medical reasons. Medical excuses will result in a pro-rated refund based upon the number of classes held prior to the date listed on the physician’s excuse. If program falls below the minimum required and the spot cannot be filled, no refund will be given. • One-day Program Refunds; (with the exception of Klub Fun) Applications for refunds for one-day programs must be submitted 5 business days prior to class starting in order to receive a refund. Refunds will not be accepted after the class has ended.
• All refunds applied for are subject to a $5 service charge. Instances where fees are $10 or less, the service charge will be based on 10%. • Kids’ Club, Klub Fun, Enrichment Program, New Horizons and Kamp Kaleidoscope participants are subject to different terms of refund and withdrawal policy. See parents’ manuals or description for more information. • Please allow two weeks to receive refunds. Refunds will be applied to any outstanding balance owed on any programs or activities.
Inclement Weather Policy For program and event updates or cancellations, please visit bataviaparks.org/rainout. The umpires or instructors decide the status of play after program starts. They will base their decisions on the field conditions and the likelihood of rain or thunder.

policies
• All refunds will be issued in the form of a check when a refund application is approved before the class starts. Checks are processed by the Batavia Park District front office bi-monthly and sent via mail.
Non-Resident Fee Policy The Batavia Park District residents make a significant contribution to the operation of the park district via property taxes. The boundaries were established with the formation of the park district in 1969. A copy of a map showing the park district boundaries is printed in the brochure and available at the park district office. Persons living outside the park district boundaries may be required to pay an additional fee to register for programs.
Electronic Signature Readers: Electronic signature readers have been installed, which will eliminate the need for you to complete a paper form every time you register. The electronic reader will capture your signature and confirm that you’ve agreed to the liability waiver and release of all claims. Signatures will stay on file for 12 months, and after that time you will simply stop in to sign the waiver again. If you are a regular phone-in customer, we will need to capture your signature in person in order for you to do subsequent registrations by phone. Online registration will not be affected by this new procedure.

WAIVER & RELEASE
batavia park district waiver and release of all claims Important Information The Batavia Park District (the “Park District”) is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in high regard. The Park District continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect the participant’s safety. However, participants and parents/guardians of minors registering for the program/activity must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in any activities. You are solely responsible for determining if you or your minor child/ward are physically fit and/or adequately skilled for recreational activities. It is always advisable, especially if the participant is pregnant, disabled in any way or recently suffered an illness, injury or impairment, to consult a physician before undertaking any physical activity.
Warning of Risk Recreational activities are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and emotional resources of each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity. Depending on the particular activity, certain risks and dangers may exist due to inclement weather, slips and falls, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, lack of safety equipment, inadequate or defective equipment, failure in supervision and instruction or officiating, and premises defects. It is impossible for the Park District to guarantee absolute safety.
Waiver and Release of All Claims and Assumption of Risk Please read this form carefully and be aware that in signing up and participating in the Program(s), you will be expressly assuming the risk and legal liability and waiving and releasing all claims for injuries, damages or loss which you or your minor child/ward might sustain as a result of participating in any and all activities connected with and associated with the program(s)/ activity(ies) (including transportation services, when provided).

I further agree to waive and relinquish all claims I or my minor child/ward may have (accrue to me or my child/ward) as a result of participating in this program/activity against the Park District, including its official, agents, volunteers and employees (hereinafter collectively referred as “Parties”). I do hereby fully release and forever discharge the parties from any and all claims for injuries, damages, or loss that my minor child/ward or I may have or which may accrue to me to my minor child/ ward in any way associated with the programs(s)/ activity(ies). I acknowledge I (or my minor child/ward) will abide by local, state and federal guidelines regarding COVID-19, as well as facility/program policies, rules, safety directives, etc. I acknowledge if I (or my minor child/ ward) fail to abide by these, my access to Batavia Park District facilities and programs may be revoked at any time and at the Batavia Park District’s sole discretion. I acknowledge and agree federal, state and local guidelines regarding COVID-19 are subject to change and the Batavia Park District may, at its sole discretion, revoke the effectiveness of this document to manage facility capacity, participation in programming and/or use of facilities as well as safety. I have read and fully understand the above important information, warning of risk, assumption of risk and waiver and release of all claims. If registering on-line or via fax, my on-line or facsimile signature shall substitute for and have the same legal effect as the original for signature. I understand that my child/ward or I may be photographed or videotaped while participating in a Park District program.
