Your Tickets Support the Good Works of the BATC Foundation Every Artisan TourTicket helps fund our charitable arm, the BATC Foundation. Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2015, the BATC Foundation’s mission is to build and remodel homes for area families in need. Currently, with your help, the Foundation is working on several important projects, including building a new accessible home with Homes for our Troops for an injured war hero. Read all about Marco Solt and the Foundation’s Bluebird project on page 103.

BATC, the Strength Behind the Builders There’s one thing that truly sets apart the Artisan Home Tour—the fact that it is presented by BATC. The Builders Association of the Twin Cities is an organization that works hard to support the area building community, improve building codes and practices, and provide resources and education that allow our builders to provide homeowners with the highest quality, most energy efficient houses in the country. This is why the Parade of Homes has remained the most valuable and successful home marketing tour in the nation, and we hope you’ll find the Artisan Home Tour is an excellent addition to our family of home tour events.

James Hardie® siding and trim give homeowners style to celebrate and performance to take completely for granted Every home deserves the authentic design and uncompromising performance of James Hardie® siding and trim. A curated collection of siding and trim textures, widths and colors beautifully captures any home design. And a deeper beauty lies in the lasting character and easy lifestyle these products bring to a home, especially here in Minnesota. Given the harsh conditions nature unleashes year after year, the decision to choose a 100% HARDIE home will look better every day. The entire James Hardie exterior product line is specifically engineered to resist shrinking, swelling and cracking even after years of wet or freezing conditions.

Timber Bark

James Hardie siding and trim resist water absorption to help protect against mold, swelling and cracking, and are also pest and fire resistant. It’s easy to see why James Hardie is the most popular brand of siding in North America. Sleek and strong, the siding offers smooth, beaded or deep wood grain textures in a complete line of profiles – from HardiePlank® lap siding to HardieShingle® siding – for unlimited design options. And HardieTrim® boards have the character to match, in both style and performance. So a 100% HARDIE home promises cohesive design and lasting curb appeal.

From the Warner Family to Yours

The Living Kitchen at Warners’ Stellian-Edina showcases over 100 Sub-Zero & Wolf appliances.

Warners’ Stellian is truly a family affair. Back in 1954 Jim Warner went to work for Stellian Appliances, and by the early 70s, he had taken over the company and renamed it Warners’ Stellian. Today, the firm is owned by Jim’s nine children, and includes more than a dozen third-generation Warners. But family or not, the Warners expect the same commitment from everyone in the company—to provide an unmatched shopping experience with exceptional service to every single customer. This culture has helped Warners’ Stellian to become the preferred appliance supplier of a growing number of custom home builders.

From left to right: Bill Warner, Jeff Warner, Carla Warner and Robert Warner

“When you do business with Warners’ Stellian, you have a relationship with individuals, not a big corporation,” says President Jeff Warner. “As our company continues to grow, we’re going to keep it that way.”

Minnesota’s Appliance Specialists Whether it’s product selection, showroom design or installation services, Warners’ Stellian remains Minnesota’s number one appliance choice by operating on the cutting edge—which earns the independent appliance retailer national industry recognition.

Warm weather is finally here, and if you’re like most Minnesotans, you can’t wait to get outside. To help bring the outdoors in, many homeowners are choosing large windows and doors, such as Marvin Windows and Doors’ Scenic Door line. The latest addition to the line is the Ultimate Clad Multi-Slide Door. It’s designed with narrow stiles and rails for maximum daylight openings and views, and is as smooth to operate as it is dramatic. Available in large sizes with standard widths up to 50 feet wide, this door comes in a variety of configurations that include pocket and stacked door panels. The Ultimate Lift and Slide Door can be made up to 48 feet wide, and is available in a corner (90 degree) option. It allows for a seamless transition from the exterior to the interior of your home. Marvin’s industry-exclusive hardware virtually disappears to give you a clean and unobstructed view. The other Scenic Door option, the Bi-Fold Door, opens like an accordion. From two to eight panels, this door stylishly and effortlessly connects your space to the outdoors. One of the panels is designed to swing out when the other panels are closed, making it easy to use when you don’t want all the door’s panels open. Beautiful large doors can help you enjoy the nicer weather! To learn more or to find your local dealer, visit www.marvinwindows.com.

Just as there are differences in natural stone, there is a difference in stone fabricators. With 20 years’ experience as the premier fabricator of granite, quartz, marble, other natural stone and solid surface countertops in the Midwest, Granite-Tops’ continued growth and success is a testament to the quality and service we deliver. Every countertop we produce is custom, always made to order, always using the finest natural stone, and always made to each customer’s exact specifications. From front office, through countertop production to installation, our staff, and their experience with natural stone, is what sets us apart. But the real proof of our exceptional performance and a job well done comes from the responses we receive from our growing list of satisfied customers. We are not just another fabricator or slab selection center. We offer the best of both in a single location. Stone Countertop Outlet is by far the easiest, most convenient way to select and purchase custom stone & solid surface countertops. From stone slabs, to sinks and faucets, to field measure and complete fabrication and installation, we offer everything you need in one location. No other fabricator or selection center offers all that we do! We give you more options, too! You can choose from another selection center other than Stone Countertop Outlet and we will still fabricate and install your custom stone countertops, or you can have Stone Countertop Outlet handle your entire project start to finish. Our goal is to make purchasing custom stone countertops a hassle-free and enjoyable experience. www.StoneCountertopOutlet.com

The Taste of Artisan How else would we toast an incredible Artisan Home than with exceptional artisanal beer and wine? Join us on every Friday during the tour to sample local craft beer or artisanal wine, thanks to our partners at Flat Earth Brewing Co., Johnson Brothers Liquor Company and Wirtz Beverage.

Opolo Vinyards Wine from Wirtz Beverage Neighbors Rick Quinn (a native Minnesotan) and Dave Nichols founded Opolo Vinyards in the late 1990s, and have already made a name for themselves. Their vinyards are located near Paso Robles, California, with its superb microclimate for growing wine grapes. 2012 Chardonnay (TASTING NOTES)

Honeyed notes of green apple dominate with hints of peach and honeydew.

2012 Albarino (TASTING NOTES)

Aromas of honeysuckle, tangerine, and grapefruit dominate with hints of hyacinth round out the nose.

Artisanal Craft Beer from Flat Earth Brewing Company

Sileni and Astoria Wine from Johnson Brothers Liquor Company

One of St. Paul’s original craft breweries, Flat Earth Brewing Company is quickly becoming a Minnesota icon and will be even more so when the renovation of their new home in the historic Hamm’s brewery is complete.

Sileni (New Zealand) Sileni Estates is a family owned and operated winery founded in 1998 in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand by Graeme, Gaby and Nigel Avery. These are worldclass wines created by an experienced winemaking team and maintaining the highest standard in environmentally sustainable viticultural practices.

Angry Planet Pale Ale This crisp, clean satisfying American ale is loaded with Cascade hops, giving it a wonderful citrus flavor and aroma to compliment the American malty sweetness.

Sileni Reserve Sauvignon Blanc (TASTING NOTES)

Aromas of tropical fruit lead into intense stone fruit and gooseberry flavors.

Belgian Style Pale Ale Brewed with Belgian malts, you’ll enjoy the copperred hue with hints of raisin, cherry and toast. The moderate yeast character marks itself with flavors of clove and spice.

Astoria (Italy) Astoria Vini is a family-owned company (fourth generation). The Polegato family estate consists of 50 hectares in the protected Prosecco D.O.C. Region of Italy. The vision of the winery is to consistently produce the highest level of wines that can be enjoyed not only in Italy, but also around the world.

Cygnus X-1 Porter An old English porter recipe was transformed by adding rye malt. This brew floods your palate with hints of chocolate, biscuit and a touch of smoke.

Astoria Prosecco

Northwest Passage IPA

(TASTING NOTES)

A perfect blend of Canadian malts and American hops, this is one of the hoppiest beers in the Midwest. It pairs well with spicy curries, sharp cheese, pho and buffalo wings.

Small, soft bubbles release aromas of bright citrus fruit with a silky-smooth texture on the palate.

HIGH QUALITY, CREATIVE HOMES When you work with Creek Hill Custom Homes, you’re working with a veteran builder who truly knows construction and who brings craftsmanship and a design style that is unique to Creek Hill. Mike Hillesheim, president of Creek Hill Custom Homes, learned the art of home building as a carpenter nearly 30 years ago before starting his own custom design/ build company. His hands-on knowledge of construction and his commitment to the planning and design process assures clients a home that they’ll love to live in for years to come. Through its commitment to creative design and impeccable customer service, Creek Hill Custom Homes has built hundreds of homes for families across Minnesota. “My goal has always been to build the finest quality homes and to deliver the best value for a custom home that has unique and lasting features,” explains Hillesheim. “My philosophy is to create a smooth process from start to finish with no surprises, which allows our clients to truly enjoy the design and construction process of their dream home.” MIKE HILLESHEIM

DOING THE RIGHT THING In the early days, Mike Rygh owned a real estate firm with three branches in the Twin Cities. “Occasionally I’d help a client purchase a home site, and then he or she would ask me to recommend a custom homebuilder,” Rygh says. But 30 years ago Rygh felt there weren’t a lot of good custom homebuilders in the Twin Cities market. That’s what inspired Rygh to get into the custom home building business himself. Now, after 30 years in business, Custom One Homes has built several hundred homes, the majority in the east metro communities of Woodbury, Cottage Grove, Stillwater, and Lake Elmo. “I have always believed in surrounding myself with good people. In the early days, those people taught me a lot. Today, the majority of my trade partners have been with me for the past 25 years,” Rygh says. “The three things that frustrate people most during the home building process are unexpected price increases, not knowing a firm closing date, and poor communication, so we’ve put everything in place to ensure our customers don’t experience that kind of frustration,” says Rygh. What does Rygh enjoy most about the custom home building business? “Doing the job right,” he says.

TONY SONNEN

As a business student at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Tony Sonnen’s career counselor had him take a survey which showed his interests were in the building and construction industries. “It really wasn’t a surprise. On Saturdays I’d stay home to watch This Old House and Home Time. There was no HGTV at that time,” says Sonnen.

36

Today, Sonnen is managing partner for the Gonyea Homes team which employs 30 people including the three owners, three full-time interior designers and four full-time architectural designers. “Our objective during design is to make as many decisions as possible before we sign the contract, so there are only minor changes and no unwelcome

surprises during construction.” Sonnen notes. It’s not all about the wow factor with Gonyea Homes. “My business partners and I take very seriously what’s going into the guts of the home,” he adds. “In 100 years, we hope these homes will be appreciated for their character and solid construction.”

THEIR NAME SAYS IT ALL A Great Neighborhood Home is exactly what you’ll get when you work with Scott and Margaret Busyn. This husband and wife duo specialize in building and designing new construction in Historic neighborhoods and hot spot locations like Edina and the Minneapolis lakes area. The couple’s ‘turnkey’ approach makes the entire experience easy and their boutique style design means that, even though the process is streamlined, each home is truly unique. Crafting only a few homes each year, the Busyns are able to effectively handle every detail in the custom build/design process. “Our job is to look at the entire picture,” Margaret explains. “We make sure the home isn’t oversized on the lot. Solid architecture that is timeless and fitting for the neighborhood is our focus, while designing an interior that is seamless in form and function is our specialty.”

TALENTED TEAMWORK Hanson Builders has won dozens of BATC Reggie AwardsSM, thrilled their clients with innovations, and demonstrated since 1979 that business ethics and building skills are important in three family generations. CEO Dean Hanson, who learned from his Master Carpenter father, Ken, also knows the value of an incredibly talented team. Innovative design starts with team member Mark Englund. With 25 years experience designing homes all across the country, Englund makes the home design process “laugh-out-loud fun. And, our thoughtfully organized design process saves our busy clients considerable time as compared to smaller custom shops,” explains company president Don Skelly. But that’s just the beginning. The practicalities of building have been honed to a science, with Design-to-Budget, Timelines-Met and Floorplan-Evolution the top three areas of focus. “There are no surprises when we draw up our very detailed pricing proposal, unpleasant surprises are minimized with their Source Home system, and our clients receive a precise timeline for the build.” said Skelly.

SIMPLE, PREDICTABLE, AND STUNNING When JMS Custom Homes delivers to homeowners their new home, they inevitably hear, “Thank you so much.” JMS attributes the heartfelt thanks to having provided its clients with a predictable experience and outstanding value. According to Jeff Schoenwetter, who owns and runs Hopkins-based JMS Custom Homes with his wife, Nancy, “The business of building homes is simple, you do what you say you are going to do. You deliver on time and on budget.” Over decades, the Schoenwetters have built many homes in the Southwest metro area. JMS “provides a very consistent experience on a highly customizable platform. Some call it ‘optionality’ — choices are great!” “I’m most proud of the value we build,” says Schoenwetter. “We create homes that are safe investments for the families we work with, and that’s something to be very proud of.”

MAINTAINING RESALE VALUE THROUGH TRADITIONAL STYLE David Frosch’s love of drawing steered him toward a career as a drafter, which led him to his current profession designing high-end artisan homes. “I started as a drafter, but I soon realized that I had the ability and knack for designing homes,” says Frosch. He also discovered a strong business sense. Working for Kootenia Homes, a Woodbury-based builder of high-end artisan homes, Frosch quickly moved from drafter to general manager. Then in 1996 he purchased the firm when its owner wanted to slow down and Frosch was pushing to expand. Frosch offers one-on-one attention to each of his clients. “I listen twice as much as I talk,” he says. “If you ask probing questions, you’ll find out exactly what it is that your client wants in a new home.” Another secret to keeping his clients happy, Frosch says, is to keep them informed. Every one of Kootenia Homes’ customers has his or her own web portal to track day-to-day progress and eliminate any surprises. “The Kootenia name has a very strong reputation in the industry, particularly among realtors,” says Frosch. “And the homes have excellent resale value.”

Affluent homebuyers won’t settle for a cookie cutter footprint nor run-of-the-showroom products, and that’s a prime reason Michael Paul Homes earns their accolades.

A NATURAL TALENT Nature or nurture? With Greg Narr, no need to take sides: Just answer ‘yes.’ At an early age, he was already enlisted as a part time employee in his father’s company, Narr Construction, Inc. He formed his passion early. After attending the U of M, “my Dad —who was happier on the job than in the office—switched sides with me,” says Greg, now president of Narr Construction, Inc. Based on experience and expertise, Greg shifted focus from modest houses to the more demanding luxury market and today builds four to five homes yearly in the West Metro. He tries to keep projects local; less drive time means more time on the jobsite, a bonus every client reaps. “I’m a hands-on guy,” he explains. “I keep a pretty tight rein on what’s going on.” His brother, who also joined the firm, swears allegiance to these strong precepts, too; ensuring that, between the pair, there’s a Narr on every jobsite everyday. Customer satisfaction is stellar because Greg delivers on the attributes he promises. Homeowners profess delight that he’s a handson man—a man with design sensibilities—and a trust level is cemented. Greg says, “If you don’t have trust, you don’t stand a chance. As he underscores, “I do what I say I’ll do.”

COLT SKOGQUIST JEREMY SKOGQUIST LARRY SKOGQUIST

AN INNOVATIVE PROCESS Chad, Jeremy, and Colt Skogquist grew up in the building industry helping their father, Larry, put up drywall. That was more than two decades ago. Today the three brothers are part owners of the artisan home building company their father started in 1989, New Innovation Homes (NIH Homes). Larry’s three sons all pursued a different aspect of the homebuilding business in college, and each brings something unique to the company. Chad took business management courses and today serves as job superintendent for NIH Homes. Jeremy pursued architectural design and today leads sales and marketing. The company controller, Colt, studied estimating and construction management. As president, Larry continues to run the 15-employee company, which includes full-time framing and trimming carpenters who keep close tabs on quality control.

The team prides itself on both its unique design process and exterior architectural style, which includes touches like barrelvaulted porch ceilings and steep-pitched roofs. “Our clients are at the heart of the process, while we provide the framework. This allows them to make expedited choices while still being able to customize the design exclusively for the way they live,” says Jeremy. “We often hear from our clients how fun and easy the process was and how grateful they are for how streamlined we made it.”

CREATING THE DREAM Pillar Homes’ landmark 20th Anniversary in 2015 represents signature consistencies as well as agility to adapt to changing economic and market trends. Owner and President, K.C. Chermak, has guided his company to become one of the west metro’s most responsive and trusted custom builders, with homes designed specifically for each family in desirable locations. Pillar Homes, is a builder, remodeler and developer. The philosophy is the same for both custom building and remodeling: top standards in quality, detail and individual design. From one room to whole house, the focus is on modern comfort and function in designs that reflect the personality of the homeowners. As K.C. puts it, “We start with the goals the family has for the home.” K.C. applies his own macro vision to the integration of the design process, taking into consideration for example, how best the home can take advantage of the sites, views and sun exposure.

K.C. CHERMAK

The Pillar team guides clients through a patented selection process that allows homeowners to give their input and make decisions in the easiest way possible. “The result is that our clients can be thrilled with how their ideas have been brought to life.”

RISING TO THE TOP After Ridge Creek Custom Homes launched in 2005, their first new home was an intricate 6,000 square foot home in Wayzata. Rob Eldridge was the new kid on the block, but his work was exceptional and business was good. The company was making a name for itself in the luxury market. His success, however, was far from out of the blue. Rob grew up in the building industry, working on construction sites since he was a teenager and later moving into real estate. Rob understands the business, but it’s his passion that sets Ridge Creek apart. “What I love most about building homes is staying in touch with our clients and hearing how much they love their home...even years later. Our clients are like family!” Rob explains. Every home maintains a high quality, luxury feel no matter the size or price. Adapting styles and merging timeless architecture with pristine design that meet a customer’s wish list, is what Ridge Creek does best. The sky’s the limit. “If you can dream it, we can build it,” Rob smiles.

ROBERT DANA DESIGN Third Generation Construction Company

Robert Dana Design is a third generation construction company, a tradition that was carried on when Jeremy Rupp and his wife, Emily, founded Robert Dana Design. A streamlined company, they offer everything from professional real estate development and custom renovation to design and construction. “We help our clients every step of the way,” said Emily, “from buying or selling a home to finding the land and building their own dream home.”

46

Robert Dana Design is also known for their standards of integrity that have remained constant since the 40s and, of course, their expert team that brings highly skilled, individual disciplines to a contemporary

company. Their signature brand image brings classic overtones and warmth to modern or contemporary design. Emily describes this as “old world charm meets modern design and functionality.” A down-to-earth company, Robert Dana Design is always striving to put their customers first, and communication is the key. “It’s refreshing for people to get a real person when they call us,” says Emily, “and one of the decision-making team members is always available when a client calls. We are in the people business.”

AHEAD OF HIS TIME Growing up in Minnesota, Tom Budzynski accepted long, cold winters as a way of life. But those huge heating bills? That’s another story. The young man—who’d bought his first investment property at age 18 and snagged his real estate license at 23, fresh from the Navy— built his business chops by buying, fixing and reselling houses. TJB homes quickly expanded into a new construction business, now totalling 40 years in the industry. But at its inception, TJB sought a niche to stand out from the competing piles of 2x4s. And that’s when he first embraced those dreadful Minnesota winters. “To make it in the market, I decided to construct energyefficiency and cold-climate houses,” leaning on techniques proven successful in (even colder) Canada. “I was way beyond the times,” he states with gusto. “When the Minnesota legislature passed a new code in 1999, we had to change nothing in our specs, we had been building this way already.” Today, TJB strives to create efficient homes that exceed code and save on energy. “We don’t scrimp on quality in providing features like Andersen windows, Super Energy design and innovative features in every house.”

IT JUST GETS EASIER TO PLEASE Forty years ago, Steven Schwieters was ready to step out on his own. After mastering skills of framing and finished carpentry (while working for his uncle’s contracting operation), the time had come to work for himself, and Wooddale Builders was born.

STEVE SCHWIETERS

Clients came quickly, connecting with Steve’s talent, vision and experienced staff made up of expert architects and interior designers. “Clients tend to have a good sense of what they want and, along with our expert guidance, we are able to make their dream home a reality,” Steve exclaimed. Wooddale Builders also strives to keep up with the latest trends. “Our team is constantly searching for the best in innovation while remaining true to classic home design and integrity.” Most important, however, is their commitment to their clients. When customers are pleased, Steve himself is even more so. He expressed, “our clients’ happiness and complete satisfaction is what drives our company every day–it really does just get easier for us.”

ENVISIONING SOLUTIONS Ispiri owner, Jason Fabio, loves the challenge of remodeling, “finding a solution for existing homes that others can’t foresee — showing possibilities and vision — and then accomplishing them is truly gratifying.” “People call us when something isn’t working right, not meeting their needs, explains Fabio. “Then, in the design phase, homeowners meet with our team — working within their budget — to provide design solutions.” Ispiri’s Design Showroom makes the process even easier. “Clients complete all finishing selections before we ever start,” he continues. “Our goal is to deliver a better client experience, with fewer schedule and budget overruns. “Then, it’s our challenge to pay attention to quality, schedules, cleanliness and communication while the client is living in the remodeled spaces. We take that very seriously,” Fabio asserts.

JASON FABIO

Client satisfaction is underscored by independent surveys, which echo statements like “exceptional customer service and quality” and “great company to work with‑they helped us achieve our dreams.” And that’s what Fabio’s team delivers to all his clients. “For us, it’s all about providing an end result you’ll be happy with.”

A CLIENT’S BEST FRIEND While tots his age were playing kick-the-can, Jason Budzynski’s game was “How many nails can one find?” at his builder-father’s homes. “My entire life was spent on the jobsites of TJB Homes,” he declares. At ten Jason was cleaning windows and floors. By 12, he’d taken up the nail gun of a finisher, and by 14, “I could trim out and finish a house myself.” No surprise, then, that today he heads up the 35-year-old company’s strong remodeling division, responsible for 22 projects last year‑adding and reimagining everything from whole-house renovations, to kitchens and baths. Speaking of baths! TJB’s star turn on eight episodes of “Bath Crashers” has driven business through the roof, with customers reporting, “Mom saw the show and said, ‘You have to use those guys!’” JASON BUDZYNSKI

Clients appreciate that “it’s a family business, backed by the integrity of 35 years,” reports Jason, who also credits his personal dedication: “I run and oversee every remodeling project, starting with the first meeting to the last day. I’m close to the client, becoming best friends with the families that I work with.” Scads of happy customers back those bold statements.

A SECRET PASSION

V U JOV I C H .C O M | 612- 338-2020

What happens when a law student and a computer programmer go into business together? Well, duh—they remodel homes. Okay it’s a trick question, but that’s what happened when cousins Peter Vujovich and Ed Roskowinski discovered they shared a secret passion for the architecture and construction of older homes. Peter launched Vujovich in 1977, and by 1986 Ed had drunk the Kool-Aid, too. Today, Vujovich works with recreating traditional architectural styles, often creating classic touches on the postwar homes of the ’60s and ’70s, where, notes Ed, “architectural design

was not so prevalent. So we give it a style.” Think morphing a 1960 split-level into an Arts and Crafts abode or a straightforward twostory into a Colonial… Almost half of Vujovich’s projects represent repeat business. That and referrals demonstrate superior customer satisfaction. “We work hard—not only on client projects, but also on relationships. We want to become a life-long resource”—and they have been, for 38 years and counting.

What mindset does one wish in a remodeler—left-brain or rightbrain thinking? Well, the lucky clients of Michael Anschel get a twofer. He studied ceramics “for fun” and botany with equal fascination. Marry art and science and you come up with the unique designbuild capabilities offered by Otogawa-Anschel. Fascinated by restoration, Michael launched his remodeling business 20 years ago, attracting clients to his start-up via intriguing ads. That cleverness soon translated into a reputation for “very detailed, intricate, colorful work”—primarily on the area’s Victorian

belles. But his reputation for highly original creations has also attracted homeowners of everything from modest pre-war dwellings to country farmhouses. Ask about his niche and he makes clear, like every aspect of the firm, it’s unique design. “Every homeowner comes in with ideas, but our team also looks at how they dress, their car, the art in their house they surround themselves with, to draw inspiration. And”— here comes the ceramics input—“we marry the form with the functionality of the space.”

“Parade Craze”

Originally built with timbers salvaged from St. Paul’s Bandana Square, this 1980s timber frame home had great bones but sorely needed an update, particularly in kitchen and baths. The homeowners wished to retain the home’s rustic flavor yet wanted to add refinements and design details to better suit their lifestyle and tastes. Scope of remodeling: addition, living room, bar, office, kitchen, four bathrooms, laundry, family room, structural repairs and new deck Beginning with the new front entry and Zuri decking, the Northwoods-styled exterior was transformed from ordinary to extraordinary by creating a dramatic focal point with an artistic use of layers and curves

Free-form curves echo in a multi-toned slate echo the entry deck at front and kitchen entry floors, setting the stage for more beautiful surprises inside

Hwy-14. Turn left onto 40th St SE.

The original kitchen gained several feet with the new addition, and was entirely reconfigured to function more efficiently, and includes a new built-in banquet seating and custom built table for informal dining With skilled precision, the adjacent family bath was also reconfigured, even carving out space for a main-floor stacked washer and dryer Details in the kitchen make a bold statement, from the clear knotty alder cabinetry (with unique wipe-off distressed finish) and hand-scraped hickory floors to granite and soapstone countertops and unique puzzle-piece stone backsplash

94

The original, oversized fireplace which overwhelmed the living space was removed, and a new Eco-resin panel brings light into the previously dark home office A pedestrian 80s owners’ bath has been entirely remade into a showplace, offering a breathtaking display of intricate tile work, heated floors, soaking tub and curbless walk-in shower This amazing renovation demonstrates the true Artisan spirit, retaining the architectural integrity of the original structure yet creating an original and very personal work of art ARTISAN HOME TOUR by Parade of Homes | ARTISANHOMETOUR.ORG

A New, Accessible Home For a Wounded Veteran and his Family Army SPC Marco Solt is a Brooklyn Center native whose vehicle encountered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on his first deployment in Afghanistan. Marco lost both of his legs in the explosion and now uses prosthetics and his wheelchair to get around. The BATC Foundation is proud to be partnering with Homes for Our Troops to bring Marco and his wife Gena a brand new, specially adapted home. Each home built by Homes for Our Troops is equipped with over 150 special adaptations including widened doorways, lowered countertops, roll-under cook tops and sinks, all designed to give veterans like Marco full wheelchair accessibility. We are grateful to our Build Partner Accent Homes who will manage the construction of Marco and Gena’s home.

Remodeling Bluebird House for its Residents Bluebird House is a group home operated by Homeward Bound, and home to four young men with severe medical conditions. Homeward Bound was formed by a group of parents who needed a high level of medical care for their children, but wanted a more home-like atmosphere than a nursing home could provide. Today, Homeward Bound operates three Intermediate Care Facilities and 14 group homes in the Twin Cities area for children and adults. Bluebird House is a typical 1960’s rambler with small rooms that aren’t designed to accommodate the bulky medical equipment needed by its residents. Our Build Partner, Vujovich Design Build, will add a bedroom, family room and additional storage space to make this too small home become a just right home…a place where the residents of Bluebird House can enjoy a meal or watch a movie with each other and visiting family members.

Thank you for purchasing Artisan Home TourTickets, and helping us make dreams come true for the Solt family and the residents, families and staff at Bluebird House.
