FAQs Who produces the Artisan Home Tour? The Builders Association of the Twin Cities (BATC), presenter of the Parade of Homessm and Remodelers Showcase®. How much does it cost to attend the Artisan Home Tour? • $30 when purchased at the homes • $25 when purchased online at ArtisanHomeTour.org • $20 when purchased at Bachman’s locations (starting May 25) • $20 with a coupon from Holiday Stationstores (starting May 25) • A TourTicket allows one-time admittance to all 21 new and remodeled homes, plus one additional visit Should I purchase a ticket in advance? You will save $5 or $10 per ticket when you purchase in advance (see above), and save time when you start your tour. How do I get my ticket when I buy online? At the first home you visit, you’ll be asked for the email or phone number you provided when you purchased online. You’ll then receive a unique paper TourTicket with your own QR code which will be scanned at each home you visit. What if I only want to visit one home? If you have a favorite builder or want to visit a home near you, single home tickets can be purchased at each home for just $5. Is there a charge for children? Anyone above the age of five will need to purchase a ticket. An adult must

accompany and be responsible for children at all times in the homes.

What should I bring with me?

Where does the money go from tickets purchased? A portion of ticket sales goes to the BATC Foundation, the charitable arm of the Builders Association of the Twin Cities, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization composed of BATC members and supporters who contribute their time, materials and expertise to help Twin Cities families and communities in need. The Foundation also provides scholarships for students entering the home construction industry.

• Socks. Shoes and bare feet are not allowed in the homes. We will have a limited supply of booties at the homes, too (if you are visiting multiple homes, please be green and hang on to your booties).

When can I visit the homes? Your ticket is good during tour hours all nine days of the Artisan Home Tour: June 9-10-11, 16-17-18 and 23-24-25, 2017 (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays). Homes are open from noon to 6pm each day. Remodeled Homes are open the final weekend of the tour, June 23-24-25.

Can I visit a favorite home a second time? Yes. You can visit one home twice.

• There is ample parking at each home.

Do I drive directly to the homes? Yes. Do you accept credit cards? We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover both online and upon entry to the homes. No bills over $20 will be accepted at the homes. What if I lose my ticket? If you’re worried about losing a paper ticket, make sure you download the Parade Craze app on your smart phone. It’s easy to upload your ticket information and then we just scan the QR code on your phone.

What should I not bring? • Your camera. You can view photos of the homes in our Look Book, included with the Fall issue of Artful Living Magazine and on the Artisan Home Tour website after the Tour.

DESERVING VETERAN FAMILY RECEIVES HELPING HAND

GIVING RACHEL A SPECIAL SPACE

Jason served eight years in the U.S. Marine Corp, completed three tours of duty in Iraq and is currently serving in the Minnesota National Guard. After being discharged from the Marines, Jason returned to Minnesota where he found it tough to find a job. To complicate matters further, his wife Genella was experiencing medical problems due to complications from the birth of their son. Jason and Genella experienced financial difficulties and were not able to keep up with the expenses related to maintaining a home that was over 100 years old. The BATC Foundation, working with Rebuilding Together Twin Cities and Build Partner Soderbeck Design, was able to help Jason and Genella with some much needed repairs to their foundation, replacement of windows, flooring in the kitchen and bathroom, landscaping and a new set of home appliances. Jason and Genella’s home was also the focus of the BATC Foundation’s first ever BATC Member Volunteer Day! This event was a big hit and provided the opportunity to give back to 18 BATC members, who helped with landscaping and built a play structure for the family’s children. Things are looking up for the family now that Jason is fully employed. Genella is still struggling with serious medical issues but has peace of mind knowing that their home will be around for many more years to come! Special thanks to these BATC members: Soderbeck Design, Florstar, Bachman’s, Lyman Lumber, Pulte Homes of MN, Lake Country Builders, and Showcase Renovations for their donations of labor and materials to the project!

Rachel is an exceptional 12-year-old in many ways. She loves music and sings in her school choir. She is active in Circus Juventas and theatre. She’s a world traveler, visiting Paris, Belgium and China. Two years ago, Rachel experienced a series of health events that led to a diagnosis of Crohn’s Disease and a type of malformation of the spine. For more than two years, Rachel’s world has consisted of hospitals (her longest stay was 86 days!), doctors and multiple surgeries. Because of her illness, Rachel is homebound much of the time and has missed a lot of school. Rachel’s bedroom can only be described as tiny and that has led her to spend much of her time at home in the family’s dark and partially finished basement. The BATC Foundation, Special Spaces and Ispiri, LLC. teamed up to make her time in the basement a lot more fun and special. We’ve converted the dark, dingy space into a bright, comfortable Rachel’s Room for her to do crafts, schoolwork and hang out with friends. We replaced cracked floor tile, removed dark wood paneling, mitigated moisture, installed drywall and painted. Windows and ceiling tiles were replaced and a test for radon was completed to ensure she can spend plenty of time there without additional health consequences. Special Spaces designer, Chelsea, added built in storage cabinets and shelves, a custom craft table, chalk board, craft wall and added bright colors and furniture. Special thanks to our build partner Ispiri and all of the volunteers and donors who made this project possible.

Built in 1948, this modified two-story home was typical of its era. The main level was cut up into distinct rooms that segregated activities, while the very ordinary bedrooms upstairs were small and lacked closet space. But, with its prime location across the street from the Edina Country Club, choosing to remodel was the only smart decision.

From curbside, the whole-house renovation shows off a seamless addition to the upper level, resulting in a graceful new façade with classic proportions and just the right massing The first order of business was to open up the main floor, which required removing the existing central fireplace and chimney and swapping the kitchen and dining room locations The formal living room remains its own space with a new fireplace, however now flows naturally from the foyer and gains a smooth entry to the shared kitchen and dining room vestibule
