Builders Association of the Twin Cities

The Best of 2016 The Builders Association of the Twin Cities (BATC) is the community of builders, remodelers and associated companies that create beautiful new homes, amazing remodeled homes, and welcoming neighborhoods for families all across the Twin Cities. Whether a suburban dream home, a downtown condo or a first-time buyer townhome, the homes we build and remodel are places for making memories, finding refuge after a tough day at work, and connecting with neighbors and friends in communities of your own. BATC is best known for its home tours, the Parade of HomesSM (since 1949), the Remodelers ShowcaseÂŽ (since 1984) and the four-year-old Artisan Home TourÂŽ. Hundreds of thousands of people come out each

tour to visit homes and learn more about building, remodeling and, of course, home trends. We are also well known by legislators and government officials for the advocacy work we conduct on behalf of our members and their home buyers to ensure we can continue to build safe, durable and affordable homes. We want to help families make smart housing decisions, and our comprehensive year-round website, ParadeofHomes.org is the best place to start. Read more about BATC and our efforts to keep housing affordable, while enhancing the professionalism of our builders, remodelers and the companies with which they do business on pages 14–16 and on our industry website at batc.org.

About BATC.

The Remodeler of Merit AwardsSM (ROMA) honor our remodeler members for quality and value in remodeling projects that range from baths, kitchens and additions to whole-house remodels. Professional remodelers from Sioux Falls, SD, judge entries on creativity in meeting the unique challenges of remodeling, and in successfully meeting the needs, desires, and budgets of their clients.

The Trillium AwardsSM were established to honor our Associates (trade partners) for their partnership with Builders and Remodelers. As Reggie-winning homes and ROMA-winning projects are judged the very best, the Trillium Awards are given to all entered participating Associates in a ROMA-winning project or a Reggie-winning home.

2016 AWARD WINNERS

BATC Awards also recognize companies and individuals that inspire us with their innovation, passion, and commitment to excellence. We honor members for their contributions to our Association and the industry, and for their leadership in key areas. Our most prestigious awards, the Builder, Remodeler, and Associate of the Year, recognize companies that have demonstrated the highest level of trust, communication, loyalty, ethics in doing business as judged by their customers and trade partners, as well as industry engagement and community service.

BATC: Experts in Building Community In addition to bringing area families the resources they need to find builders, remodelers, newly built homes and home-related resources through our Parade of Homes brand, BATC works hard to keep housing costs down while making sure our members have access to quality education and information to help them conduct their businesses with professionalism, intelligence and passion.

BATC: Working to Support Housing Affordability for Homeowners Educating and informing legislators, regulators and other government officials about the consequences of a new law, code or rule is an important aspect of BATC’s advocacy efforts. Our goal is to keep building neighborhoods that are safe, healthy and innovative at a price families can afford. Learn more at BATC.org

MN Green Path BATC’s energy-testing and green certification program helps home buyers and home owners better understand the expected energy use of their new or newly remodeled home. Every Green Path home receives a Green Path Home Performance Report (HPR), which includes independent energy testing results from a certified RESNET rater, plus additional green features for homes that are certified. Nearly 9,000 homes in the Twin Cities have received a Green Path HPR. Look for information about MN Green Path every Spring and Fall in the Parade of Homes Guidebooks and at ParadeofHomes.org.

BATC Foundation: Serving Twin Cities Communities Working with local service providers, our goal is to make a difference in housing options for individuals, families and communities in need. The BATC Foundation was formed in 1995 as the charitable arm of the Builders Association of the Twin Cities (BATC). The Foundation focuses on the needs of youth, women and military veterans. HomeAid Twin Cities, a program of the BATC Foundation, focuses on the needs of Twin Cities homeless. “When it comes to the bottom line of building the homes, this is a person-to-person effort,” explains Perri Graham-Raff, Executive Director. “For many of our builders, subs and vendors this becomes their personal mission. Through the efforts of our BATC members, we are Building Heart in Housing.”

Our Mission

To work in partnership with others to provide safe, quality, affordable housing for those in need.

Oak Park Heights Veteran Receives Needed “Houselift”

New Siding for Oakdale Veteran in need

Jason and Genella are a blended military family who have experienced more than their share of misfortunes. Jason served eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps with three tours in Iraq. He currently serves in the Minnesota National Guard. Jason had difficulty finding work after his return from Iraq and was unemployed for several months. Genella was a college professor until she experienced numerous complications related to the birth of their son. Due to several surgeries, she now suffers from chronic pain and difficulties with lifting, movement and eating. The family has three children, ages 6, 6½ and 8. Because of Jason’s unemployment and Genella’s health issues, the family does not have the funds for upkeep on their home. The BATC Foundation helped Jason and Genella with some window and door replacements, new kitchen and bathroom flooring and other maintenance.

Jonathan was a member of the Army Reserves when his unit was deployed to Iraq in July 2008. In December of that year, his left ankle received an avulsion fracture when he hopped off the back of a semi-truck’s flatbed. The pain from the injury did not go away and even worsened after deployment. Jonathan was eventually diagnosed with regional pain syndrome and is now unable to work. The family has exhausted their savings. Partnering with American Building Contractors, Inc., the BATC Foundation was able to replace the siding on Jonathan’s home, which had deteriorated to the point where birds were living in the walls. Bernal said it will be a relief to have the house repaired because so many things could have gone wrong as a result of the deteriorating siding, including an electrical fire or mold damage. “I couldn’t afford any of this, ... I wouldn’t be able to get approved for a loan or anything,” he added.
