AVIVO

During the summer of 2017, the BATC-Housing First Minnesota Foundation teamed up with Lennar and their trade partners to build a home for the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans to help homeless veterans. This unique home is the only home built for MACV to house homeless veterans with their families.

The Foundation completed their latest renovation for Avivo this spring. Four units of an eight-unit brownstone apartment building in Minneapolis received a complete overhaul with the help of build partners, The Kingdom Builders and Crystal Kitchen Center, Inc. The updates included new flooring, paint, millwork, cabinets and appliances.

ST. MICHAEL PROJECT In October 2017, the BATC-Housing First Minnesota Foundation completed the expansion and remodel of a group home for four hardworking men with special needs. Minnesota Design & Construction served as build partner to complete this project for the St. Michael Foundation. Chief among the improvements was a new kitchen, where the residents love to cook together, gather at the new center island, and enjoy a meal at the dining room table. The Foundation’s addition also included a beautiful deck accessed from the kitchen and new flooring throughout much of the home.

HOMEWARD BOUND The Foundation, Minnesota Rusco and Contract Interiors Inc. renovated two bathrooms and replaced the carpet in all common areas of a group home in Brooklyn Park. These renovations will allow for much easier access and safety measures within the bathrooms, and the durable, high-quality carpeting will provide a more welcoming environment. Throughout this project the Foundation was able to improve the lives of 32 Homeward Bound residents for many years to come.

This Avivo apartment complex is home to women and their children who participate in Avivo’s family treatment program. Housing is critical for mothers to focus on recovery, go back to school, and find employment. Avivo specializes in serving individuals with the greatest barriers to success — homelessness, poverty, addiction, mental illness and more. The major renovations to these apartments will provide a better quality of living to help Avivo’s women and children achieve their goals of life-long wellness and success.

How much does it cost to attend the Artisan Home Tour? • $30 when purchased at any Artisan Home during the tour • $25 when purchased online at ArtisanHomeTour.org • $20 when purchased at Bachman’s locations (Starting May 21) • $20 with a coupon from Holiday Stationstores (Starting May 21) • A ticket allows one-time admittance to all new and remodeled homes, plus one additional visit to one home of your choosing. Why should I purchase a ticket in advance? You will save when you purchase in advance (see prices above), and save time when you start your tour. Online ticket sales begin on May 5 for the 2018 Artisan Home Tour, with retail sales beginning May 21.

How do I get my ticket when I buy online? At the first home you visit, you’ll be asked for the email or phone number you provided when you purchased online. You’ll then receive a unique physical ticket with your own QR code which will be scanned at each home you visit.

What if I only want to visit one home? If you have a favorite builder or want to visit a home near you, single home tickets can be purchased at each home for just $5.

Do I drive directly to the home? Usually. Please be mindful of any ‘no parking’ signage when arriving at the home and read the directions in this book for other parking requirements. Some homes have off-site parking and will provide a shuttle service.

Is there a charge for children? Anyone above the age of five will need to purchase a ticket. An adult must accompany and be responsible for children at all times in the homes. Where does the money go from tickets purchased? A portion of ticket sales goes to the BATC-Housing First Minnesota Foundation, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization composed of BATC-Housing First Minnesota members and supporters who contribute their time, materials and expertise to help Twin Cities families and communities in need. When can I visit the homes? Your ticket is good anytime during the nine days of the Artisan Home Tour. New homes are open June 8-10, 15-17 and 22-24, 2018 (Fridays, Saturdays and

Do you accept credit cards? We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover both online and upon entry to the homes. No bills over $20 will be accepted at the homes. We recently completed a home that was a more modern take on a combination of “Minnesota Cottage” and “1920s lighthouse.” The house was a fun mix of new materials alongside repurposed items like brass doors in the tasting room and cast iron stanchions used as newel posts. Growing up in a small town in western Minnesota, we both had an interest at an early age in custom homebuilding and remodeling through (ironically enough) our annual family trip to the Twin Cities to tour the Parade of Homes. These annual trips solidified our desire to one day become custom home builders ourselves. After stints in the marketing and IT fields after college, we jumped head first into custom homebuilding, remodeling and real estate 15+ years ago and never looked back. We couldn’t imagine doing anything else today.

While not all our clients have energy efficiency or indoor air quality at the top of their wish list, at a minimum, we educate them on how minor changes in material choices can make their home healthier for them and their family. We are small family-owned company backed by an extremely talented team of individuals who put a great deal of value in the relationships and bonds we create with our clients and our subcontractors. We are a close knit group. Our parents (who are also business partners) even host our entire team in their dining room for a home-cooked lunch every Tuesday during our weekly status meetings.
