2021 ANNUAL REPORT
Building Futures Through Housing
Letter From the President 05 Hearts at Work 07 History 09 Projects 12 Financials 18 Contributors 22 CONTENTS
The last few years without a doubt have been challenging. With the help of the Housing First Minnesota Foundation’s board of directors, staff, generous build partners, trade partners, sponsors, and contributors, I’m pleased to share that we have completed our sixth and seventh Housing for Heroes homes for veterans experiencing homelessness. In addition, the Foundation renovated six apartment units for mothers in recovery who are rebuilding their lives with their children.
Thank you to our build partner Lennar for your invaluable commitment and contributions to our veteran build projects. I would also like to thank our build partners Plekkenpol Builders, Inc., The Kingdom Builders, and John Kraemer & Sons, Inc. for their generosity and dedication to the Family Recovery Housing projects. None of these community build projects would be possible without the support of these build partners and our big-hearted donors.
In 2022, the Foundation is planning our biggest investment of community build projects in one year. We will be constructing four Housing for Heroes homes accompanied by four accessory dwelling units (ADUs). These homes will deliver impactful results and provide 20 additional beds. Since our first Housing for Heroes project in 2017, the Foundation, build partner Lennar, and the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV) have provided nearly 50 beds for homeless veterans transitioning to a more stable environment.
The Foundation also has plans to renovate two Avivo units in a 1900s Minneapolis apartment in need of repair. The units are designated for mothers to be able to live with their children while working through addiction recovery. One remodeled unit can house at least 64 mothers with their children over 20 years.
As a veteran, I am honored to be part of the Foundation and the work we do to build safe housing for veterans and Minnesotans in need. Our work is inspiring, and we have proven in 2021 that the uncertainty from the past few years will not stop us. Stay tuned as we work on our initiatives to reduce the number of people who are experiencing homelessness in Minnesota.
We are counting on your support now more than ever. What can you do to help us? Donate, sponsor, or become a build partner! Your support is appreciated. Thank you.
Paul Roecker
