Disciple One Another – Be a Christian Mentor
As Christians, we have been called to disciple one another. Mentoring is a form of discipleship, and you can make a real difference by choosing to mentor others of all ages, most significantly a child. Mentoring programs help youth and adults receive life-changing advice, guidance and wisdom for navigating every day challenges. Youth can gain valuable support and insight into life’s challenges as they grow, while adults can gain wisdom in areas of walking in Christ, family challenges, being financially responsible, dealing with career issues and challenges, accountability and advice in areas of strongholds and temptations, etc. Having a mentor can help eliminate the feeling to tackle life on our own. It can lead to significant change and growth in all these areas of life, and more. Whether you are interested in adult or youth mentoring, your dedication and sacrifice is a Kingdom investment that will have lasting effects for you and your mentee. I encourage you to take time from life’s busy schedule and mentor someone in need of knowing Christ. It will make a better person out of you and the one you mentor! Blessings,
Melissa K. McElroy BayAreaChristianFamily@mchsi.com

8 Deadliest Diseases #1 Heart Disease
Coronary artery disease is the number one killer in individualized nations today accounting for over 7.2 million deaths per year. Heart disease is an inflammatory disease of the artery, not a disease of cholesterol. Over half of the patients who suffer a heart attack have normal cholesterol levels. The underlying cause of inflammation of the artery is oxidized LDL cholesterol, homocysteine, along with excessive free radicals caused by hypertension, diabetes, cigarette smoking, fatty meals, and elevated insulin levels. All of these causes of inflammation of the artery are either eliminated or significantly reduced by the use of nutritionals supplementation.
#2 Cancer
6.3 million people die of cancer yearly. Medical literature increasingly supports the fact that cancer develops from damage to the DNA of the cells by unstable molecules over the course of 10-20 years. However Naturopathic medicine feels different about this. We feel lack of nutrients to the cells, bad diet, refined sugar and other toxins to the cells for prolonged periods of time weakens the immune system to the point where the pH is lowered and the cancer cells in the body grow and take over the body.
#3 Stroke
4.6 million people die from stroke every year. Stroke occurs suddenly and usually without warning. 15-20 percent of all strokes could related to elevated homocysteine, a byproduct of protein metabolism that is elevated in individuals who have low levels of folic acid and vitamins B6 and B12.
#7 Alzheimer’s
An estimated 29 million people suffer from dementia. Alzheimer’s dementia has been shown be caused by oxidative stress and lack of boron in the brain. Aluminum cancels out boron in the brain so it’s important to read labels and get rid of all products which have aluminum in them. Patients who have the highest intake of antioxidants, which combats oxidative stress, have the lowest risk of developing Alzheimer’s dementia. Taking large amounts of nutritional supplements and getting rid of aluminum in your diet and personal hygiene products is the key to stopping this from happening to you.
#8 Obesity
For the first time in the history of the US and other industrialized countries, there are more people who are obese than there are people who are normal weight. Watch what you are eating people, it’s real simple, too much junk food laden with empty carbs and processed foods are the culprit here. Watch your diet and take your supplements and you can stop this before it starts. A good healthy lifestyle plan along with exercise will help you throughout your entire life stop this obesity epidemic. Until next time, Stay healthy ! — Dr. Jimmy Steger N.D., PH.D., DNM Naturopath, Nutritionist & Iridologist 4412 Government Blvd, Mobile, (251) 660-1240, www.drsteger.net
#4 Diabetes
135 million people suffer from diabetes and it’s estimated to rise to 300 million by the year 2025. The overwhelming new cases of diabetes in the world today are the result of insulin resistance due to faulty diet. Doctors are busy treating blood sugars rather than the underlying problem which is insulin resistance. Diet, exercise and nutritional supplements all improve the sensitivity in your own insulin and are critical in preventing diabetes from occurring in the first place or if you already have diabetes helping control your diabetes. Diet is always the key and also the way to heal the pancreas. The pancreas cannot be healed without the proper nutrients.
#5 Osteoporosis
25 million North American suffer from osteoporosis. Osteoporosis and bone health depend not on estrogen and calcium, but on a wide range of nutrients including vitamins B6, C,D,K folic acid, magnesium, manganese, zinc and copper. Failure to meet one or more of these nutrient needs could result in accelerated osteoporosis. Maintaining strong and healthy bones should begin early with good nutrition habits.
#6 Arthritis
Over 165 million people have some form of arthritis More than 70-80 percent of the population over the age of 50 suffers from degenerative arthritis. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication does nothing to slow down the progression of the disease and is responsible for over 100,000 hospital admissions each year and 16,000 deaths. Glucosamine sulfate along with complete and balanced nutritional supplements on the other hand actually slows down degenerative arthritis and even able to increase cartilage within the joint, without dangerous side effects.

Robins’ Egg No-bake Cheesecake
This is gorgeous and easy! Buy a 16-oz. package of Whoppers brand robins’ eggs – those colorful, speckled, egg-shaped candies with the malted milk inside. Break these into chunky pieces. You’ll also need 1 ½ cups of heavy cream; 12 oz. of softened cream cheese; ½ cup of sugar; ¼ cup of Carnation malted milk powder; and a regular or chocolate graham cracker pie crust.
Ingredients:
1 lb shrimp 2 cups pineapple, diced small 1 red bell pepper, diced small ½ cup red onion, diced small 1 jalapeno, finely chopped 1 ¼ teaspoon kosher salt 1 teaspoon garlic, minced 1 teaspoon Sriracha hot sauce 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 head romaine, green leaf, butter lettuce, etc. cilantro and chopped peanuts (optional garnish)
Preparation
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add shrimp. Cook for 8 minutes, stirring often. Add bell pepper, onion, jalapeño, kosher salt, garlic and Sriracha. Cook for 3 minutes, stirring often. Add pineapple. Cook for 1 minute then remove from heat. Make lettuce wraps by filling lettuce leaves with shrimp and pineapple mixture. Garnish with chopped cilantro and peanuts if desired. Eat taco-style. Shrimp and pineapple mixture also wonderful served over rice or cauliflower rice. — Chef Lucy Greer Greer’s Market & Catering
Use a mixer to beat the heavy cream until it forms soft peaks. Then thoroughly blend in the sugar and cream cheese. Use a heavy wooden spoon or spatula to blend in a cup of the robins’ eggs pieces and the malted milk powder. Pour this mixture into the graham cracker crust, cover it with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight or for at least six hours. When you’re ready to serve, sprinkle each slice with more robins’ eggs pieces.
Closing Thoughts
Every one of us has influence. The words we use either build people up or tear them down. Our behavior also sets an example. What do your words and actions say about your faith in Jesus Christ? Don’t just live. Live intentionally. Live with passion. Live with purpose. Live knowing that every day could be your last opportunity to make an impact for the Kingdom. A former professional soccer player and a 10-year veteran of the U.S. Women’s National Team, Birmingham, Ala. native Catherine Reddick Whitehill says playing for Briarwood Christian School was an integral part of her athletic development. It also bolstered the Christian faith encouraged by her parents. Returning to Birmingham to be inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame this month, Whitehill reflects on the soccer and faith influences of her hometown. A forward for Briarwood Christian School from 1996-2000, Whitehill’s memories of growing up in Birmingham include date nights with her father, Rev. Phil Reddick, an associate pastor at Briarwood Presbyterian Church. “We’d go to a local Mexican restaurant, currently it’s El Poblano, which is in Rocky Ridge. It’s a small place, but we love it. When I got a little bit older, it was a morning date to Chick-fil-A every Thursday. My dad and I would go to breakfast there and [talk] football. We kept a running tally of the games over the year, and whoever won bought the other person lunch.” While a student at Briarwood, Whitehill says she was influenced heavily by Bible teacher Fran Sciacca, who taught courses on Old and New Testament Survey as well as 21st Century Faith. “We’d go through every single book of the Bible and find a keyword, key verse, key story. I still have that to this day,” she recalls. “He [encouraged] us to think outside the box, not just be in our own world. He taught us about challenges we were going to face when we went to college and in the real world.” As a young athlete, Whitehill struggled to find competitive girls club teams to help grow her talent. She spent much of her childhood through middle school playing for The Attack, a selective boys’ team. Her sophomore year at Briarwood, she was selected for the Olympic Development Program (ODP) Regional Team, then made the U-16 National Team. She went on to play on the U-18 and U-21 National

Team, and her freshman year at the University of North Carolina, she earned a spot on the National Team as a defender alongside veteran players Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, and Kristine Lilly. As she adjusted to being a bit starstruck, a call from college coach Anson Dorrance helped her refocus. “I guess he had gotten a call from the national team coach who said I was being too tentative at practice. He called me up and said, ‘Stop genuflecting on Mia Hamm and play like Cat Reddick.’ I had her poster on the wall when I was a kid. That was scary at first, but thankfully I got over it.” Her senior year of college she won Former professional and U.S. National soccer player Cathea gold medal with the team at the Olympic rine Reddick Whitehill now lives in Atlanta with her husband Games in Athens, Greece. sionally for the Washington Freedom (2009-2010), Atlanta Beat (2011) and Boston Breakers (2012-2015). Her friend group had served as her faith-based community in college, and leaving that behind proved challenging. “I had such a good foundation growing up with my family. I love the fact that I have been able to get to know different cultures, get to know different people. [Travel] it made my faith even stronger because there’s not a lot of close friends out on the road. It’s a pretty lonely feeling, so you really dive into the Bible a lot or listen to a sermon or a podcast. It was really important to have that,” she says. With each new professional contract, in each new city, she also had to find a new place to worship. Although she is now retired from professional soccer, Whitehill recalls the strengths that made her so successful on the field, particularly as she moved to a position on defense. “I see the game really well. A lot of times I see where the forward is going to be before the forward even gets there,” she says. “Because my vision was so good, I was able to get into a position that would beat the forward where I wouldn’t have to get into a race with them. My longball was another strength of mine. I worked on that all the time, both feet.”
In addition to her professional soccer career, Catherine Reddick Whitehill started on ESPNU offering commentary on college soccer in 2008, then moved to the SEC Network and World Cup broadcasting for ESPN and FOX. This summer, she will travel to France to commentate for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Now retired as an athlete, new successes for Whitehill include soccer commentary for FOX and ESPN, coaching in Boston and focusing on women’s rights. She recently traveled to Tajikistan with the U.S. Embassy to help women learn how to play soccer. “I went to help women who don’t have equal rights as men. We taught some of their coaches the best way to train because they don’t think they should train the girls the same way as boys,” she says.
tors. “They need someone to believe in them. And I think they need honesty,” she says. “I told my players [in Boston], if you don’t want to know the answer, don’t ask the question. I’m going to tell them the truth, and that goes a long way. It’s the best way to learn. You show them that you believe in them, not just as soccer players but as strong women. And you show them how women can be--how we can use our voices in a way that is so powerful.”
Now living in Georgia, where her husband works as a pediatric cardiologist at Children’s Hospital of Atlanta, Whitehill hopes to return to the sport as a coach in the south, tuned in to what modern girls need to hear from men-

Rain or Shine
I love success stories, but the older I become the less intrigued I am by the eventual worldly “success” in these stories. The success part is great, but the unwavering perseverance to do, be or become something is what speaks to me.The staying of the course, rain or shine, is the real story in the story. No doubt you have heard of comedian and TV personality Steve Harvey. His rise from nobody, to somebody, to a Christian somebody, is one such story. Before Steve had any real success, he was a broke no name comedian traveling from town to town for stand-up comedy gigs. Much like a not yet famous musical band traveled from town to town, but he was traveling alone. During this lonely stretch he lived mostly out of his car, sent every dime he made back home, slept at rest stops, fished out of people’s road side ponds and not for fun, but for food. Not a glamorous time in his life but here is the part that speaks to me…. He didn’t just have to show up for work and quietly do “a job”, he had to show up for work, stand on a stage, and be funny! He had to be funny when nothing around him was easy, or funny. That had to be hard some days, but he did it anyway. Rain or shine.
When you identify your gift and put it to work for Christ you open a huge conduit for God to speak to you and work in your life. When you share your gift, then you become the conduit that God works through to speak to and work in the lives of others. That’s how it works. If you haven’t put your gift to work yet, take a deep breath and start, even if it is just a little. If you have put it on the shelf, pick it back up and put it back to work. Either way, get in the game and stay in the game…. Rain or Shine. Get in the boat. Do your part! From Nose to Toes.

Hold that thought but let’s change people…. Several years ago, like Steve Harvey did at some point, I gave my life to Christ. After almost 46 years of living I told God that I would dedicate the remainder of my life to Him. God said that’s great, I want you to write and I want you to boldly share your faith. Wait, what? Buy a Jesus sticker for my truck, go to church “most” Sundays, keep my faith quietly to myself, be a good person, die one day and go to heaven was more of what I had envisioned. God said that’s fine, if that’s all you want. You can be on the team and sit the bench, but you have repeatedly asked for my “plan” for your life, and for now that’s it. So, you want the ball or not? I chose the ball. By early 2016 I was both writing and sharing my faith through a blog that God sent a man to build for me. I did this, with consistency, for about a year and a half, and God blessed the effort. He built a platform for The1SixProject and assembled an ever-growing group of people to support and promote it. As the writing platform grew, so did my faith, and as my faith grew so did my writing. They complement each other, I never saw that coming. The project rolled along until one day, I all but stopped writing. Why? Because it started to rain. What started as I’ll write tomorrow, became next week, then the next. The calling to write never left me, I just ignored it. There were more pressing things in my life that required my attention, or so I thought. I basically, just left the game and took my seat on the bench. God never said a word. I stayed true to my faith, I just stopped being obedient to God’s call on my life. Somewhere around the end of last year I read Steve Harvey’s story, and it stuck in my mind. Specifically, the part about him having to show up and be funny, no matter what, rain or shine. I began to see myself in that story except, I was not showing up at all. Inspired by Steve’s commitment to work his gift, regardless of circumstances, I made the commitment to be obedient to God’s call and write 52 stories in 2019. Rain or shine. So, ponder this… What is your gift? What is the “thing” that you felt led by God to do, or to put to work, when you got in the boat? What is it and more importantly, what are you doing with it this very day?

brain cells, resulting in dementia.
They are all loaded with synthetic, artificial food dyes, previously man-made from coal tar but now, to lower costs, from petroleum.
The U.S. Center for Science in the Public Interest released a 68 page report, Food Dyes, A Rainbow of Risks, detailing all food dyes commercially available along with their results from tests and experiments. Results were not bright and comforting.
In the last few years studies such as those from International Journal of Biological, Biomolecular, Agricultural, Food and Biotechnological Engineering and World Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences not only confirm artificial food dyes cause developmental brain problems but they also indicate artificial food colorings are a cause of brain cell degeneration. Basically, food coloring, eaten over the years, is a cause of dementia. Yellow dyes are associated with high oxidative stress which creates free radical production. Simply the yellow dye causes your brain cells to go crazy and beat each other up (hyper inflammation) , eventually killing each other. Various artificial blue dyes cause gliomas which are tumors made in the glia cells, the supportive cells to neurons which hold up the neurons and direct them. Yep, tumors as in Brain cancer! Orange to red dyes work to build up plaques in the brain. Actually they cause a specific protein, amyloid precursor protein, to misfold and starve
The European Union has demanded warning labels be issued on foods containing artificial synthetic dyes. Australia and the United Kingdom have banned these chemicals in foods altogether.
Processed food lobbyists have garnered a hold on our federal legislature, lessening ‘color’ regulation from the FDA. Yet we can vote the existence of such companies and/or the use of damaging food dyes with our paychecks, with how we spend our money. Nutrition is the main way to have good brain health. Not only do we need to absorb nutrients from all natural foods to better our brain, we must opt out of buying processed foods saturated with artificial coloring as well as injected fruits and vegetables. Else, we will dye our brain to death. — Janet Rich Pittman Brain Health Specialist Former Dementia Administrator and Practitioner www.JanetRichPittman.com, Janet@JanetRichPittman.com

Create Your Own Personal Pension? It’s Not as Crazy as it Sounds As defined benefit pensions disappear, it may be up to you to create a guaranteed income stream
Pensions, or defined benefit plans, came first with guaranteed income for life. Then came 401(k)s with their focus on growth from the stock and bond markets. The two were meant to work together, but with defined benefit pensions disappearing, many people are now left with only a 401(k) plan. While 401(k)s are an important component of retirement savings, they were never intended to be a standalone retirement solution. The 401(k) was meant to provide supplemental retirement savings in conjunction with pensions, savings and other income vehicles to provide a fuller retirement picture. Additional resources can be used to support your 401(k) and pension payments in order to build out a robust retirement strategy. How can near-retirees replace an old defined benefit plan that offered guaranteed income? What if you are one of the many people who are receiving a lumpsum from a retirement plan or have a windfall event where you receive a sum of money? One option could be to invest in a deferred income annuity. A deferred income annuity (DIA) allows you to set up a guaranteed income stream beginning later in life. Remember that the guaranteed income is based on the strength and claims paying ability of the financial institution. DIA’s are traditionally funded with a lump sum payment and the contract promises to pay you a lifetime income stream starting at the date of your choice. For example, let’s say a DIA is purchased with a $50,000 lump sum. That money will then be held by your financial institution for a defined period. After a specified amount of time has passed, you can start receiving payments. This guaranteed stream of income can be used to supplement existing retirement savings. Many options are available when it comes to retirement strategies. With traditional pensions disappearing from the financial landscape, there are plenty of options available that let you design personal solutions for your own retirement. The key lies in understanding your options and working with a financial professional who can help guide you toward a secure retirement. — Christina Gibson (251) 281-7312 and Timothy Benson (251) 709-0315, Financial Associates, Thrivent Financial. Start 2019 Off on the Right Foot
Individuals and small businesses should consider various ways of starting off on the right foot for the 2019 tax year. W-4 Updates – If you are employed, then your employer takes the information from your Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form W-4 and applies it to the IRS’s withholding tables to determine the amount of income tax to withhold from your wages in each payroll period. This process did not work all that well in 2018 because, in the wake of the tax reform, the IRS did not have time to properly redesign Form W-4 and adjust its withholding tables. In fact, the IRS has announced that this task will not be completed until it issues the 2020 versions of Form W-4 and the withholding tables. Thus, the problem from 2018 continues into 2019; if your 2018 refund or balance due was not the desired amount, then please consider adjusting your withholding based on your projected tax for 2019. If you need assistance, please call this office. W-9 Collection – If you are operating a business, then you are required to issue a Form 1099-MISC to each service provider to which you have paid at least $600 during a given year. It is a good practice to collect a completed W-9 form from every
service provider (even if you are paying less than $600), as you may use that provider again later in the year and may have difficulty getting a W-9 after the fact – especially from providers that do not plan to report all of their income for the year. Estimated Tax Payments – If you are self-employed, then you prepay each year’s taxes in quarterly estimated payments by sending 1040-ES payment vouchers or making electronic payments. For the 2019 tax year, the first three payments are due on April 15, June 17 and September 16, 2019, and the final payment is due on January 15, 2020. Generally, these payments are based on the prior year’s taxable income, if you expect any significant changes in either income or deductions relative to the previous year, please contact this office for help in adjusting your payments accordingly. Reasonable Compensation – With the advent of the 20% pass-through deduction, which is available to most businesses other than C-corporations, the issue of reasonable compensation takes on a whole new meaning, particularly for S-corporations’ shareholders. This has been a contentious issue in the past, as it has allowed shareholders who are not just investors but who are actually working in the business to take a minimum salary (or not salary at all) so that all their income passes through the K-1 as investment income. This strategy allows such shareholders to avoid payroll
taxes on income that should be treated as W-2 compensation. A number of issues factor into a discussion of reasonable compensation, including comparisons to others in similar businesses and to employees within the same business, as well as the cost of living in the businesses’ locale. This is a subjective amount, and it generally must be determined by a firm that specializes in making such determinations. Only a few of the tax-related actions that you take during a year will benefit yourself or others. The most important of these actions is keeping timely and accurate tax records; for businesses in particular, this is of the utmost importance. Those who have well-documented income and expense records generally come out on top when the IRS challenges them. If you have any questions related to your taxes or if you would like an appointment for tax projections or tax planning, please call this office. — Saty Putcha, EA MBA CBI Padgett Business Services Phone:251-666-6624 1521 Dawes Rd Mobile, Alabama 36695 www.putchallc.com

West Mobile Non-Profit Rebuilding Lives
If men and women who were in prison leave with the same skill set they had before sentencing, experience no change in income, and their influences and friends stay the same, what chance do you think they have for success? Statistics show there is less than a 40% chance they will stay out of prison within 3 years of release. A 2014 report released by the Department of Justice followed 404,638 people released from state prisons in 30 states in 2005. The report found that 67.8 percent of those in the study were arrested within 3 years of release, and 76.6 percent within 5 years of release. If poor decisions are made about how time is spent, who is chosen to influence their lives, and where they decide to live, it is very difficult to stay out of jail for the long-term. There is a desperate need in cities across our country to house men and women full time once they are out of rehab or prison and help them transition back into society with success.
Volunteers giving their time to help improve the lives of men and women re-entering the workforce after incarceration.
While there are many programs in the United States who train and support those who are re-entering the workforce, it is rare to find a program providing a 24 hours a day, seven days a week structured environment as close to real life as possible. However, the PASCO Home (Physical and Spiritual Christian Outreach) fills this need. It is a 501 3C non-profit Christian ministry founded in Mobile 11 years ago by Phillip Stanford to reduce recidivism (re-entering jail after being released) rates.
As a recovering alcoholic, Stanford experienced firsthand how crucial it was to live in a structured and positive setting. In 2008, Stanford utilized the only resources he had and opened his own home to 8 men. This is where PASCO was born. Since then, Stanford and Rocque Waites (Director of Operations at PASCO) have opened both a men’s and women’s facility. The men’s home has a present capacity of 28, and the women’s home (opened in 2016) has a present capacity of 18. Unique to almost any other rehabilitation program, PASCO is a nine month program for individuals leaving incarceration and drug and alcohol treatment centers. It is also an alternative to sentencing. The goal is to prepare program members to be independent, regain custody of their children, and rebuild family relationships. It has changed the lives of over 800+ graduates since its inception. The nine month program is structured by four levels where privileges and liberties are earned with each advancing level. During the program, each member is involved with local community service and attends church. The men and women in the program are required to invest in their own future by finding a job. For clients who are unable to find work or have limited skills, PASCO opened a construction company to employ these clients and teach them new skills. Counseling, mentor relationship, aftercare meetings, and health and dental care are also provided. Stanford and Waites work tirelessly, equipping their clients spiritually, mentally, and physically and have set big goals for the next phase of growth. They are planning to open a women’s and children’s home in March 2019, larger dorm style facilities for men and women to increase capacity, and also partner with local and neighboring state rehabilitation centers to expand the program’s circle of influence.
The PASCO Home’s greatest needs:
1. Walk in cooler for both men and women’s facilities 2. Mentors to counsel the clients 3. Volunteers to provide monthly meals 4. Contact The PASCO Home construction at 251-645-7273 for any home or business painting, flooring, or lawn care needs! They can do it all! — Rachel Cuccias To learn more about The PASCO Home or to donate to the ministry, please visit thepascohome.com

Alabama Lemon Laws/Buyer Beware Recently, I was on Facebook and a person was complaining because they had purchased a used vehicle at a “buy here, pay here” establishment. Just days after taking the vehicle home, it began experiencing serious problems. This young person had put a sizeable down payment on the vehicle and signed a loan agreement for the remainder. She was asking for help and information as to whether the Car dealer would be responsible for the repairs and/or could be made to take the vehicle back. Many people commented that she should take it back under the Alabama Lemon Laws and some suggested a 3 day return rule. It was at that time that I realized that most people do not understand the Alabama Lemon Laws and how it works. Unfortunately, many people go to buy cars without actually knowing what their rights are and are not. I have heard this story way too often and have had people come to my office to receive legal advice about similar situations. So, let’s first look at the Alabama Lemon Law itself. The Alabama Lemon Law is covered under Section 8-20A of the Code of Alabama. First and foremost, it is important to understand that this law ONLY APPLIES to new vehicles. That means it does not apply to the person in the example above. Second, the law does not apply to motor homes or any vehicle with a gross weight of more than 10,000 pounds. And finally, the time period in which to assert the law is the period ending one year after the date of the original delivery of a motor vehicle to a consumer or the first 12,000 miles of operation, whichever first occurs. The Lemon Law covers a vehicle when it is in a “nonconforming condition.” That is any condition of a motor vehicle which shall not be in conformity with the terms of any express warranty issued by the manufacturer to a consumer and which: (i) significantly impairs the use, value or safety of the motor vehicle and (ii) occurs or arises solely in the course of the ordinary use of the motor vehicle, and which does not arise or

occur as a result of abuse, neglect, modification, or alteration of the motor vehicle not authorized by the manufacturer, nor from any accident or other damage to the motor vehicle which occurs or arises after such motor vehicle was delivered by an authorized dealer to the consumer. Alabama is a Buyer Beware State. What does that mean you ask? It means that the duty is on the Buyer to determine whether the used vehicle you are buying has any problems. When you are looking for problems in a used vehicle you must look beyond the noticeable items such as wear and tear on tires, body damage, rust, dirty carpets/seats. You must look for the damage that can only be determined by a professional such as under carriage damages, tire rods, radiator, engine block, electrical, etc. I recently heard a complaint from another individual on Facebook who felt that she had taken these steps because she got an opinion of the car’s condition from the mechanic that worked for the car dealer. That is not acceptable. You must be allowed to take the vehicle to a mechanic of your choosing to have it looked over. Will this cost you money? Yes! But it is worth it when you remember that you are committing thousands of your hard-earned dollars. Another document to look at is a Carfax. A Carfax tracks all insurance claims and work orders for the vehicle at which interested in. The Carfax can also tell you the status of the title of the vehicle, which will assure you that the person selling you the car has the right to sell it. In Alabama, used car dealers are required to put a sticker on the car that says you will be buying the car “As Is” (which means Buyer Beware) or with a Limited Warranty. If a car dealer is not willing to offer you a warranty, DON’T BUY THE CAR. Remember, YOU CAN ALWAYS WALK AWAY! THERE ARE OTHER CARS! — Angela M Cooper Disclaimer: We are a debt relief agency. Senioritis
HELLO SPRING with your beautiful sprouting greenery, fresh flowing pollen, and captivating blooms that represents your arrival. As the aromas of Spring fill the air, in stark contrast, the beauty of Spring can also be the peak season of several viral epidemics such as influenza, bronchitis, sinusitis, severe colds, etc. But there is another epidemic, not often talked about, that tends to come out of nowhere attacking our Senior High School Students during the most vulnerable time of their high school career. I Am Talking About The Dreaded…SENIORITIS!!!! By their senior year, most students have worked hard attending school for the past eleven years. They have endured intense time management routines; they have succumb to being forced into responsible “adulting” behaviors and they have been stretched beyond their limits in order to reach their highest academic potential. Now, just when they can see the finish line, they are attacked by this condition called SENIORITIS. So What Is SENIORITIS? Researchers have termed this very contagious condition “Senioritis” because of its overwhelming power and often crippling effect that spreads like wildfire during a student’s senior year of high school or senior year of college.
Symptoms can include but are not limited to: •Low Motivation/Extreme Laziness •Skipping Classes or Skipping School All Together •Grandiose/Cocky Attitude •Sense of Entitlement •Apathy – the “I Don’t Care” Syndrome •Difficulty Completing Task and Staying Focused •Disinterest In School and Some School Related Activities •Poor Hygiene •Increased Sarcasm •Unrealistic Expectations (I.e. refuses to study but expects to maintain good grades) The sabotaging effects of Senioritis can cause the following: •Noticeable and/or Significant Drop In GPA •Lethargic behaviors •Unnecessary Stress and Anxiety •Failure to Meet College and/or Employment Application Deadlines •Power struggles between the student and parents •Easily Irritated/Argumentative •Involvement In Risky Behaviors •Last Minute Panic To Pull Up Grades So, What Is The Cure? Well, if your student does not succumb to the plague of Senioritis, then the cure is actually their Graduation Day when they can assemble proudly
with fellow seniors and receive the prestigious honor of being presented with their High School Diploma. Hopefully you (Parents & Seniors) are now equipped to recognize signs and symptoms of Senioritis and will apply these tips as a prescriptive ointment to treat the self-sabotaging behaviors commonly associated with this condition. So now when the month of May arrives and the musical notes for Pomp & Circumstance ring in the air, you can stand with confidence enjoying all of the celebratory events being held in your honor. For when it is your turn to walk down that aisle to receive your hard earned reward, you can proudly turn your tassel to left because you have officially completed your goal……YOU ARE NOW A GRADUATE! — Veronica Davis Veronica Davis is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Addictions Therapist.
