My father in law plans to go to Africa for another mission trip with Here’s Life Africa ministry in Zambia and Tanzania this month. With his upcoming trip we have made mention that we cannot wait to take the boys when they get older. We spent 3 weeks there back in 2007 and I remember like it was yesterday when we were heading to North of the Kilimanjaro mountain to show the Jesus film. We were not far off the main road that took you to the airport but it was far enough that not many people traveled there. As we arrived there were probably 8-10 Tanzanian kids and adults around. We get out of the truck and they are literally scared to come near us. They definitely are keeping their distance from us and did not want to come close. We were foreigners to them, Outsiders if I were to say. Now here in America, I don’t believe we face persecution like a lot of those around the world do in countries that have banned Christianity, but we are definitely moving in a direction that is getting further and further away from honoring our creator. Gone are the days that we can pop-up a tent and expect revival to happen or build and church and expect people to come. There is a war happening and it is a war for our souls. Christians are becoming the outsiders to the culture of America, but is that necessarily a bad aspect to be categorized in? Not necessarily.

What the Lord has purposed for our life is to be the salt and light to a dark and dreary world, not to conform to it but to transform it. Once the natives understood that we were there for the purpose of peace, hope, and love they began to come closer and listen to what we had to say. Even though we were foreigners to them and were not able to speak the language fluently, we trusted God to ordain our meeting and through that people accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior. So keep this in mind next time you feel like a foreigner in a distant land; actions speak louder than words. Blessings, Chris Taylor Owner/Editor Bay Area Christian Family chris@christianbayarea.com

Now’s the time to sit down and look over your financial record for the past year. Here is a list of things to do as we move into a new year. Set New Goals - Write down the types of activities – dining, entertainment, etc. – that took unnecessary money from your pocket. Then set a monthly limit for those kinds of expenses. You can’t save it and spend it, so come up with a reasonable figure that will still cut your monthly outgo. Write down new goals – paying off debts, taking that special vacation, getting that new furniture – which the reduction in outgo will help you work toward. And every time you’re tempted to exceed the monthly limit you set, remind yourself your goal is worth sticking to your limit. Start Christmas Shopping - Christmas is barely behind us, but that means winter clearance sales galore and huge savings on items that will make great gifts for next Christmas. As you find bargains to fill your gift needs, write the recipient’s name on the bag and tuck it away in a designated gift closet (or shelf). I’ve been doing this for years and have cut my gift cost by over 75 percent and am giving better gifts than ever. Free TV -You don’t need a smart TV, or even satellite or cable TV to access thousands and thousands of free movies, music, and TV programs. On your phone, tablet, or other device, check out www.Pluto.TV and www. TubiTV.com. It won’t cost you a cent, and you’ll find programming for all ages. Chunky Turkey or Ham Salad - Hopefully, if you had any cooked turkey or ham left over from Christmas dinner, you tucked it away in the freezer. Thaw it out and chop it into small cubes. Mix in one tablespoon of dill relish (or sweet relish, if you prefer) per cup of cubed meat. Then boil one egg for each two cups of cubed meat. Finely chop the egg/s and mix with the cubed meat and relish. Stir in one-fourth cup of mayonnaise at a time until you’re satisfied with the consistency. For a little added flavor, blend in a teaspoon or two of regular or spicy mustard. Salt and pepper to taste. Closing Thoughts - “Owe nothing to anyone – except for your obligation to love one another” (Romans 13:8, NLT). Christians are to set a good example in their attitudes, actions and finances. So is it a sin to owe? No, it’s a sin to owe and not pay. Whatever you owe, pay it and do so in a timely manner. And make it your goal to pay off old debts and avoid new ones. — Judy Woodward Bates Want Judy to speak to your church, civic organization, or ladies’ group? PARENTING POINTS Setting Goals and Boundaries When Your Teenager is Struggling
If your teenager is becoming increasingly irresponsible, you will feel a lot of strong emotions. But, even in the worst of times, there are things you can do to be a positive influence on them. Here are four things to remember as you set up some appropriate goals and boundaries.
1. Set expectations for appropriate behavior.
Start by not enabling wrong behavior, which is what you do if you cover up for them, fix their problems, or protect them from their bad decisions. It’s not worth it to argue about little things, but some things are worth drawing a line in the sand like obeying the law, being safe with a car, and no drugs under any circumstances.
2. Establish boundaries and enforce consequences.
Make it clear they are responsible for their choices and the consequences. When they cross a boundary, be calm and strong rather than reacting in anger. If bad decisions escalate, so should consequences. If they continue ignoring boundaries, allow their choices to eventually propel them into counseling or a treatment program.
3. Continue to talk about positive goals.
When you are discouraged, hold onto God’s grace as your lifeline to sanity. Draw on your faith to call out the best in your teenager, even when you think they aren’t hearing it. Keep reminding them they have a good future and encourage them to pick a goal or two to move toward.
4. Stay together as a couple.
Teens, especially those with substance issues, are experts at using one parent against the other. Being divided makes it harder for them to get better, and it can tear your marriage apart. Spouses need to talk to and support each other. Before you can offer good guidance to your son or daughter, you need to have your act together as a couple. Becoming proactive is part of being the best parent you can be. Learn more at www.stepsproactiveparenting.com. MONEY MATTERS
Dave Says
Dear Dave, I’m getting married next summer. My fiancé and I are in agreement about how to handle money, and we both follow your plan. Do you recommend pre-marital counseling? If so, what do you feel are some of the important areas of agreement for couples before they get married? Allison Dear Allison, Congratulations! I’m glad you’re both on the same page with your finances, too. I’ve worked with thousands of couples and numerous marriage counselors over the years. In that time, I’ve learned fights over money—and the resulting problems from those disagreements—are probably the biggest cause of divorce in America. In my opinion, in-depth pre-marital counseling is an absolute must. The idea of entering into something that’s supposed to be a lifelong commitment, without thoroughly addressing all the issues—and potential issues—is a really bad idea. With that said, it’s been my experience that couples have a high probability of a successful marriage if they agree on four things, in detail, before the big day—kids, money, religion, and in-laws. With kids, the big question is do you want them? If so, how many and when? Are you going to let them run wild, or are you going to provide structure and make them behave? When it comes to money, something it sounds like you two are already in agreement on, get all your cards out on the table, and construct an intelligent game plan for your finances that you both agree on. Staying away from debt, living on a written, monthly budget, and saving for the future are important parts of this. Also, be in agreement on religion. Statistically speaking, two people from the same faith have a better chance of making a marriage work. And finally, when it comes to your future in-laws, you need to learn who they are and what you’re getting into. What are they really like? What are the boundaries when it comes to their influence on your lives? All these topics should be discussed at length, dealt with, and agreed upon before the rings are exchanged. God bless you two, Allison! —Dave

Dear Dave, My parents are getting up there in years, and they aren’t really prepared for when they pass away. They can’t afford life insurance at this point, and they also have a lot of debt. When they die, who will be liable for their debt? Tammi Dear Tammi, Any outstanding debt your parents have upon passing will likely go against their estate. If they have a positive net worth—meaning they owned more than they owed—there will be money left over after the debts are paid, and this could go toward an inheritance. If they have a negative net worth, which means they owed more than they owned, everything could be sold off to cover as much of the debt as possible. Regardless, you would only be held liable for any of their debt if you were a co-signer on the loans. I’d also suggest getting their permission to buy burial policies on them. If they won’t agree to this, you might have to save up money for their final expenses yourself. In most areas, $10,000 to $15,000 is enough to cover basic burial costs for two people. —Dave — Dave Ramsey

SPECIAL FEATURE How Important is He?
“The desire to live a life pleasing to Jesus and serve Him joyfully expresses our love for Him. This is only possible when His life becomes more important than our own.” OUCH! Does this step on your toes like it did mine? A dear friend shared this with me one morning, and it put me in a place of wonder. I am wondering if I am genuinely serving joyfully. Do I please Him in all I do? Does my life show His importance? As 2020 begins, it’s a great time to evaluate life and what is taking precedence in your daily walk. 2019 has been a great year, and I saw God move in many different ways in my life; however, am I genuinely showing others (including my family) that His life is more important than mine?
our love for Him. Each day you have a decision to pick up your cross and follow Him.
@CLCMOBILE
I will admit that somedays, I do not serve joyfully. I let schedules and frustrations rob me of serving my family. I let these components in life take over and take precedence in my life, which in turn knocks the one and only true God out of my daily schedule, and my eyes then become focused on the world. Oh, how the enemy loves for this to happen.
With our busy schedules, work, and all that life throws at us, we must make His life more important than our own. Be guided by the Word, and daily show others the joy you have in serving a God who went to the cross for our sins. Join us for Connecting Women Conference: Joy! Let us all walk away refocused on Christ and finding Joy in the everyday.
Once we leave Him out one day, we will find excuses for it to happen again and again, and eventually, a month has gone by, and we have not opened the Word for ourselves. When we leave Him out, we are making our lives more important than His - the one who came and died on the cross for our sins. Each day we have a decision to wake up and live for Him. Each day we have a choice to wake up and show Him and others

BEST BOOKS
Does God exist? In his latest book, Reflections on the Existence of God, Richard E. Simmons III answers this question in a series of easy to read, short essays full of fascinating illustrations. The book is the culmination of 25 plus years of research and provides a powerful answer key of sorts for both skeptic and Christian. For believers, it offers the bonus of a clear confirmation of why we believe what we believe and encouragingly calls us to stand up for those beliefs. “My thought was to equip Christians to engage with the skeptical culture we live in, where atheism clearly is on the rise and faith seems to be declining.”

The just released book is already receiving praise from national figures like pastor, theologian, and Christian apologist Tim Keller who says, “… He [Simmons] brings the biblical doctrine of God into conversation with the most basic questions about meaning and morality, science and human reason. Chapter after chapter offer helpful insights.” New York Times bestselling author and radio host Eric Metaxas adds, “In this accessible read, Richard Simmons offers valuable insights for those grappling with life’s big questions.” Simmons says one of his favorite essays in the book is on the topic of the “fine tuning” of the universe. “It’s so powerful because Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens, probably two of the most famous atheists in the last 25-30 years, both very outspoken, both acknowledge, as atheists, they struggle dealing with this. They say it is so unfathomable to explain – the fact that there are 122 variables that need to be lined up with perfect precision for our universe to exist and if any of those go astray, just a little bit, it will all implode. And yet over all these years, it has been in perfect harmony and with such great precision. They really can’t explain it.” A driving force behind Simmons’ completing the book were his three children, ages 23, 21 and 20. He sees the concepts of the book as being a way to “prepare them to go out into the world and truly engage with the skeptical world we live in…I really desire to see it strengthen the faith of young people so that they don’t lose their faith in college.” Simmons is already at work on ways to put the material in the book into an even more engaging form for high school and college students. Striving to protect, nurture, and restore children and families through Christ-centered services. The blessings of the past bring benefits to the future. Dr. Dana Watson first got a glimpse into the children’s care program that the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home serves in multiple cities across the state at 11 years old. Dr. Watson would stay until high-school but vividly remembers his first Christmas at the children’s home. “Christmas before was never something I looked forward to but waking up Christmas morning on my first Christmas at the children’s home and walking around the corner to see a tree filled with 5-6 presents for each of the 12 children in the home was unbelievable. I couldn’t believe the sight and how generous people can be. It was so much fun opening presents around the Christmas tree. I was even sad when it was all over and couldn’t wait until next Christmas.” This is the product of many generous donors to provide all the children in the care of the children’s home this type of experience.
about walking down the street on Thanksgiving and a lady asking if he had anything to eat. “She stuck her head out of her screen door and asked me if I had anything to eat. I said no, and she invited me inside to eat a bunch of good fixings. I had never seen a Turkey leg before and was amazed at how big it was compared to a chicken leg, so I ate all that she gave me and kept the Turkey leg to bring home. I ate
A consistent meal is a real problem for many children that are entering the children’s home. Many of the children come from homes that do not have food in the house because money is spent elsewhere or government aid that could provide food is misappropriated by the parents receiving it. Dana shared

College is an opportunity for many of the children that are a part of the children’s home, so after highschool, Dana attended The University of Mobile,
where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology as well as meeting his wife, Ashleigh. Dana and Ashleigh would marry in the summer of 2001. Dana would go on to attend Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Tex, and get multiple Master’s degrees and then start his career back where he grew up as a child with the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home. Coming back to ABCH, Dana would spend three years with the organization and then move on to the Department of Human Resources in Mobile County for three years. “I thought I was in a tough spot and off track, but God used that experience at DHR to prepare me for the children’s homes,” Dr. Watson said. Dana would return to the ABCH as a social worker and then soon reach his current position of COO and director of the Mobile, Dothan, and Auburn children’s homes. All the hard times that Dr. Watson has faced as a child has helped him become the leader that these children and organization needs. “It builds your faith and trust in God’s plan for your life to know He’s in the middle of everything and always has a plan. The tough times may be hard, but they help to build my faith.” Dr. Watson said. The message that he shares with the children

at the home is one of hope and perseverance. “The kids know that I grew up here, and that is a source of inspiration for them, but that’s not going to help them write their story. I tell them, ‘You’re not me, you’re you, but there’s a plan for you like there’s a plan for me. All you have to do is prepare yourself, and God will be your provider and source of strength.” Though he does not require people to use the status of “Dr” when calling him by name Dana finished his Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership in March 2019 from Eastern University. Dr. Dana Waston and his wife Ashleigh have four daughters: Aubrey (15), Emma (13), Oliva, (10), and Isabella (5). Recently the Mobile Baptist Children’s Home completed its third annual Trees for Hope event. Dr. Watson, along with the leadership of Josh Farmer, who is the Development Officer of the ABCH, and the advocacy board helped raise over $102,000.00 through ticket sales and donations for decorated trees, wreaths, and other auction items. The Trees for Hope event first began in Mobile in 2017, dreamed up and driven from the personal faith of three local business owners and community leaders: Eric Ludgate of EnSec Pest and Lawn, Jimmy Dietz of Air of Excellence and Dr. Christopher Mullenix of Mobile Oral Surgery. When these men learned how ABCH is serving children and families from hard places and has been for over 128 years now, they began to seek out an opportunity to combine their efforts to help those in need.

Be Your Best! It’s time for a change. 2020 is here and it’s time to get healthy and be you’re very best. If you look back at the trials and struggles you may have been through with your health over the years you may have ask yourself, why me what is going on. Many of my patients ask me this daily when they come in for their first consult and I tell them very simply, look at your lifestyle. It’s time for a lifestyle change. I can build you the best diet program, however it really is a lifestyle change not a simple diet. It involves diet, exercise and other factors to truly be your best in many ways. Let’s look at some ways you can start on a quest to be your best. 1. First is always diet. You need to clean this up and we always start by adding good quality alkaline water to your diet. Start with 8oz in the morning when you first wake up to get the stomach and colon moving in the right direction. Everything starts with the colon so take care of this important organ or you will suffer with health issues your entire life. 2. Next cut out all junk food and acid drinks ie; coffee, American teas, milk, colas, sports and energy drinks. Drop the beef and pork and eat grilled salmon, orange ruffy or halibut. Organic chicken breast or turkey is good occasionally. A good rule of thumb for your meats should be 4oz. 3 days per week. No more. Introduce more green vegetables to your diet along with a healthy dark green salad every night for dinner. Stay away from white potatoes and in place of this use brown rice or sweet potatoes once daily for good healthy carbs. Fruit should be eaten twice daily for your snack meals, at mid- morning and mid- afternoon for best results. Eat a healthy portion of good nuts like almonds and walnuts with your fruit. Make sure you soak your nuts and seeds for better assimilation. Stay away from all white sugar and flour along with artificial sweeteners. These alone can ruin your body and weaken your immune system. 3. Last but not least, eat a healthy breakfast. When you wake up first thing in the morning and eat 5-6 smaller meals throughout the day for better overall health and energy.
Split the body up into 2 separate days and train then twice weekly each with a two day rest in between each body part. • Start with 3set of 10 repetitions on each exercise. Start with a 5 minute warm up on a stationary bike and after you train the body, always do your abdominal work at the end followed up with a cool down on the Bike again for 5 min. This will keep the lactic acid from building up on the muscles and making you too sore to move the next 2 days. Being sore is a good sign however too much each month can be debilitating. Not good. • Last but not least get good sound sleep every night so you can recuperate and feel energized the next day and every day. Use good quality organic hygiene products without all the chemicals and your entire well- being will change for the better due to your new lifestyle change. Now don’t you think it’s time for a change? Sure, you can do, Let’s get moving in a healthy way in 2020 by changing these simple things and Be the Best you can Be ! Until next time, Stay healthy ! — Dr. Jimmy Steger N.D., PH.D., DNM Naturopath, Nutritionist & Iridologist 4412 Government Blvd, Mobile, (251) 660-1240, www.drsteger.net
Now let’s look at exercise. Nothing beats good ole fashion pumping iron with weights 4-6 days per week for best results and a better, stronger body.
