ADVENTURE AT
WINTER PARADISE
Thanks to the close proximity to Lake Superior, Bayfield gets hit heavy with lake effect snow. The silent sports season is long... often starting in November, and it's not uncommon to continue skiing well into April. Great snow pairs nicely with great trails–it's easy to see why many visitors prefer Bayfield's quiet winter wonders. Breathe the fresh, crisp winter air and take it all in. The winter beauty of the mature forests is stunning. For Nordic enthusiasts, the trail systems cover 40 km of classic and skate skiing trails that are groomed and tracked regularly. The combination of spacious hardwood, hemlock and pine forests, and plentiful lake effect snow provided by Lake Superior makes for a premier Nordic ski experience. For those who really want to embrace a northwoods winter experience, try a nighttime ski session. The Classic and skate Nordic trails at Mt. Ashwabay are open 24/7 so you can hit the trails day or night–just bring your skis, headlamp, and a few friends for this incredibly fun adventure. The quiet trails inspire and connect you to nature in a beautifully unique way. The Nordic offerings are impressive, but if skiing isn’t your thing you can also take in the peace and quiet of the trails on snowshoes. The fat tire bike trails are open year-round at Mt. Ashwabay, with the winter mountain biking trails offering a challenging and fun course for getting out in the snow. Day passes and season passes are affordable and available from Mt. Ashwavay. Ski, snowshoe and mountain bike rentals are available onsite, or from local businesses. Mt. Ashwabay is very familyfriendly with a beginner area, rentals and lessons, a terrain park, food and beverage service, and a cozy chalet. Explore and enjoy great vertical drops and breathtaking views of Lake Superior from Mt. Ashwabay.
