And just like that it’s December 2023. What a year it’s been, a true roller coaster in every sense of the word. So much going on, so many new cars, bikes, brands, restaurants, cafes, people to interview, places to go to, things to post about, write about, tweet about (yes, we still call it Twitter, not X), but regardless of how badly we try to get on with our lives, no matter how badly we want to go back to normal, we can’t shake of that feeling of dread, that feeling of unfairness, the feeling of being powerless, the absolute qahr ( )رهقthat is consuming us all as for as long as the devastation that is happening to Gaza doesn’t stop. Fortunately, we can always count on the generous, creative and inspiring people of Kuwait to keep us grounded, hopeful and looking forward to the future. This issue we met up with the dynamic team at DASH Media, a production powerhouse. Co-founders Alya Al-Askari, Mohamed Maged, Mohamed Maged, and Hatem Hosam Eldeen. and Ali Alhadi, an invaluable member and pillar at DASH-Media took us on a whirlwind tour of their journey which we’re sure you’re going to enjoy. From media to mylk, we talked to Dalal Beidoun the mama behind Mylk Ma’am Kuwait’s favorite local clean plant-based brand and learned how she left a career in academia behind for the delicious world of clean eating. Meeting Seneca Cottom also helped confirmed what we’ve always believed that we can only move forward if we help others do the same. Seneca is the trailblazing Head of Sustainability at Alshaya Group, and she told us all about her passion for empowering women, and her pivotal role within Lean In Kuwait. Sharing stories is powerful, sadly, sharing your own might feel overwhelming or hard, but we have a solution, Anonym(us), a platform where you can let it all out and share it with the world. We’re holding our loved one’s closer this season and reminded that we should not take them for granted. Instead of cancelling plans or trying to excuse ourselves from any gatherings during the holidays, we’re RSVPing to all of them. Lucky for us we also know where to shop for the perfect fits. Head to Debenhams to check out the latest drops from Phase 8 and Quiz for something exciting and sparkly. If you’re in a romantic mood, then the H&M Studio collection was absolutely designed for you. As much as we love the excitement of going out, we also love going home and dropping into our favorite sofa. If you’ve never giving your living room seating much thought, we encourage you to dig deeper and check out Mastara’s custom sofa service. They can help you create the sofa of your dreams to make your living room fantasies a reality. For an even better holiday décor makeover, you need to visit West Elm! We even have a full guide for a seasonal refresh in this issue that will help remind you of all the little details that will have your rooms looking fresher and cozier than ever. We’ve saved the best for last. The Ferrari 296 GTS in Blu Corsa graces our cover and our pages too. The bazaar Studios production was a delight to shoot, thanks to the multitalented Shouag Hayat who helped us put it all together and who is always an absolute joy to work with. We loved taking the two-seater Berlinetta spider for a drive along the Al Bida’s seashore with Kuwait’s creative talents Munirah AlShami and Abdullah Alsaleh behind the wheel. Their infectious energy and the exciting ride made it all the more fun. The creative duo also treated us to an enlightening conversation, where they take the wheel, editorially, by interviewing each other in one incredible conversation. On a final note, we are grateful for having you along with us on our 2023 journey, thank you for being here. Happy reading!

CRAFTING HEALTH AND SUCCESS:
THE MYLK MA’AM STORY
Dalal Beidoun shares her journey of creating healthy goodies for the entire family By bazaar Staff
36
In the dynamic world of health and nutrition, Dalal Beidoun, founder of Mylk Ma’am is a passionate, energetic force who is driving change and wellness in Kuwait. She is Kuwaiti-Lebanese by origin and a proud mother of three. Her vibrant personality has empowered her to kickstart her journey and we caught up with her to hear the story behind the birth of Kuwait’s favorite local clean plant-based brand, Mylk Ma’am. Dalal’s journey has been nothing short of adventurous. Her infectious energy, coupled with her background as an ex-pro athlete, a certified gut health coach, and a culinary expert, paints a picture of relentless determination. “I’m someone who’s always on the move. I find my spark in people’s appreciation for life and the love of good food,” she shares. The inspiration behind Mylk Ma’am came from her kids; she tells us that it was their health struggles that led her to an exploration of nutrition and well-being. A challenging phase in their lives turned into an opportunity for profound learning, propelling her into the realm of health and nutrition. The current Mylk Ma’am product range includes almond, oat and coconut mylks, as well as coconut yogurt, vegan kefir, granolas, puddings, bread and more! Mylk Ma’am came into existence during unprecedented times. “The pandemic nudged me to channel my passion into recipes, eventually gaining traction among family members, who in turn encouraged me to develop it into a brand,” Dalal recounts. She continues, “My family’s unwavering support was my backbone. Juggling three kids and nurturing a budding brand seemed impossible, but their belief in my passion kept me going. True friends who uplifted me on days of doubt played a pivotal role.” Navigating initial feedback from sampling her earlier recipes, Dalal explains to us that there was a steep learning curve when promoting the products. Initially there was a challenge trying to encourage acceptance of alternative products to dairy, especially nut-based products. “While some people embraced the new products, others had reservations. However, I aimed to educate through reels and stories, advocating for fresh, clean alternatives over packaged products,” she explains. Over time, with education and greater awareness of wellness, Dalal noticed a shift in how people were responding and she noticed an uptick in demand. Dalal had originally started Mylk Ma’am with almond and oat mylks and now the product line evolved to 15 offerings. “The quest for expansion kept me awake at night. Each product development was an emotional journey, especially the coconut yogurt – my fourth child,” she chuckles. Transitioning from academia to food and beverage was a monumental challenge for Dalal. Building a business from scratch encompassed a myriad of obstacles – navigating platforms, setting up a kitchen, bureaucracy, customer interactions, you name it, but over time she has managed to create a name in the industry for her amazing product line, which is clean and nutritious. We are fans already! We asked Dalal what her advice was for aspiring entrepreneurs, she shared that you should “Believe in your journey, despite fears. Embrace failures as stepping stones. Growth lies beyond fear.” It is no surprise with that motto in life, Dalal recently received the She’s Next Visa People’s Award. Dalal shared with pride “it was a humbling experience to be acknowledged among strong women entrepreneurs in Kuwait.” [Continued...]

EMPOWERING WOMEN IN THE WORKPLACE A Conversation with Seneca Cottom about Lean In Kuwait By bazaar Staff
In an engaging conversation, we sat down with Seneca Cottom, a trailblazer and Head of Sustainability at Alshaya Group, to delve into her journey, her passion for empowering women, and her pivotal role within Lean In Kuwait. Seneca, originally from the US, has lived and worked in multiple countries, with Kuwait being the third she’s called home. Her global journey began in London, where she and her husband resided for seven years, becoming UK citizens. With a background in commercial property, her career journey navigated through the male-dominated landscapes of both the US and UK. 40
[Continued...]
“Having worked in a corporate career where I often found myself in the minority, I faced the challenges of proving my worth in a maledominated industry. Upon relocating to Kuwait in 2014, I embarked on a transformative journey within Alshaya Group, initially as Senior Lease Admin Manager. Seeking fulfillment, I embraced a change, transitioning to Head of Sustainability in 2020,” Seneca shared. Seneca’s involvement with Lean In, an initiative catalyzed by Sheryl Sandberg, the former COO of Meta, stemmed from Sandberg’s impactful book “Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead.” This movement resonated deeply with Seneca, propelling her to join hands with LeanIn.org’s mission of supporting women in achieving their ambitions.
“Lean In embodies a foundation supporting women in their pursuits, offering invaluable resources, programs, and circles. These circles, now totaling 10 in Kuwait, provide a supportive environment for women to learn new skills and bolster each other,” Seneca explained. “For me, Lean In signifies a mission to alleviate the struggles I faced throughout my career. It’s about facilitating more women in leadership roles, a responsibility I deeply believe in.” Seneca highlighted the transformative impact of Lean In Circles to us, and we find it so very impressive. She cited her personal experience of finding a supportive community amidst her move to Kuwait; “Being part of a circle for over six years, witnessing the growth and support among members, emphasizes the significance of Lean In in fostering a sense of belonging.”
Seneca reflected on the evolving landscape for women in Kuwait’s workplaces, acknowledging both progress and persistent challenges. While her personal experiences have been positive, she remains cognizant of the diverse struggles faced by women in different sectors. “While some industries show improvements, biases and restrictions still hamper many women’s progress. Flexibility in work culture, revisiting certain laws, and fostering inclusivity remain pivotal for a more equitable workspace,” Seneca commented. She highlighted findings from Lean In’s “Women in the Workplace” report, underlining the aspirations and challenges faced by women in their careers. “The report stresses the need for inclusivity, remote work’s positive impact on women, and the imperative role of flexibility for companies’ success.” Seneca encouraged individuals and businesses to engage with Lean In, citing its accessible online resources and robust programs tailored for corporations. At bazaar, we love how Lean In offers a wealth of resources for individuals and companies, nurturing diversity, enhancing morale, and ultimately benefiting businesses. We are definitely going to be connecting with the team! Seneca also shed light on Lean In Girls, a novel initiative targeting young girls, aiming to impart leadership skills and combat stereotypes. “It’s about nurturing confidence in young girls, something I wish I had received during my formative years,” she said, advocating for empowering the next generation. In closing, Seneca reiterated the need for sustained efforts in driving inclusivity, urging everyone to join the movement, support, and empower women in their journey towards leadership and success. We are so excited to be following this journey! For more information or to engage with Lean In Kuwait, visit www.leaninkuwait.org or follow @leaninkuwait on Instagram. 42

CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF KHANEEN
Khaneen restaurant Founder and Executive Chef Ammar Al-Fouzan on Kuwaiti cuisine, food history, and the future of one of Kuwait’s most loved eateries By bazaar Staff
We can’t look to the future without properly celebrating and learning from our past. This is what Kuwaiti restaurant founder and Executive Chef Ammar Al-Fouzan tells me when I ask him about how Balaleet became a breakfast favorite in Kuwait. He says, “Geographically and historically, Kuwait was a major hub for the exchange of different food practices and spices, and this is why I think Kuwaiti cuisine is the most vibrant cuisine in the GCC region today. We have embraced so many incredible spices and ingredients into our cuisine.” 44
I am always in awe about how the attorneyturned-chef has made waves with the fabulous Khaneen restaurant. A visit to Khaneen is truly a treat from start to finish, with mouth-watering dishes that embrace Kuwaiti culture in a modern fashion, coupled with kitschy décor reminiscent of local memories of yore. From appetizers to comforting main courses and tantalizing desserts, Khaneen’s presentation of authentic Kuwaiti flavors is the concept’s answer to maintaining a traditional culture in today’s modern world, by nodding in appreciation towards the melting pot of influences Kuwait has become known to love and embody. Each of Khaneen’s locations in Murouj and The Avenues celebrates something so comforting and beautiful about Kuwait that only we, those who call Kuwait home, can fully understand. And this is precisely what Chef Ammar aims to deliver with the concept. Now going strong for ten years, we celebrate Chef Ammar’s journey in our retrospective interview by bringing back the first questions we asked the chef ten years ago, along with a sit-down where we talk all things food at Khaneen. [Continued...]
45
THEN Why Khaneen? I always wanted to create a concept that celebrates the amazing flavors we have in Kuwaiti cuisine. Our food culture is quite distinct, and there is nothing quite like it in the region. What were you doing before you began your cooking career? Legal consultations! I was a fully-fledged attorney before I got into the culinary world. When and why did you first get into cooking? I got into the idea of being in the kitchen from a young age when cooking for my hungry friends during weekends at late hours back when we were in high school. What do you think sets Khaneen apart from other Kuwaiti restaurants? We don’t, and won’t, ever use cheap or artificial ingredients. We make sure everything is authentic, we check to ensure that every spice we use is what families would use in their own homes. It’s not about the color of saffron, for example, it’s about the fragrance and flavor it adds to our dishes. How does your personality differ inside and outside the kitchen? Inside the kitchen, I’m a very serious person who hates to be disturbed even by the ring of an incoming SMS [we told you guys, ten years ago!]. Outside, I’m genuinely an ordinary person who loves to spend time with friends and family. When you’re not cooking, what do you do for fun? I enjoy Scuba diving, riding my Harley, photography, and music composition. NOW Ten years on, how do you feel today? I believe that with Khaneen, we have a beautiful success story. I feel extremely proud.
Let’s talk a bit more about the good stuff, the food! Tell us about your favorite items. For breakfast at Khaneen, for example, what do you usually go for? I know that anything I say will sound biased, but I do love our egg options here because I feel that eggs are a breakfast must-have. I love the Chapati here too!
What do you think is the hardest thing about maintaining this success? The food industry is extremely challenging, you have to continuously fine-tune your processes and monitor the operations in the kitchen. It is a daily process and it is constant. Luckily, I am not doing it alone, I have a beautiful team.
Chapati, part of a Kuwaiti breakfast? Interesting! Of course! So many items now served at Kuwaiti restaurants weren’t originally Kuwaiti. But with time, a lot of dishes have become a part of Kuwaiti culture and cuisine. For instance, people here can choose hummus from our menu, but when I first opened, I refused to serve it. I used to serve people Hardah (a yogurt and tahini-based sauce) and after studying this further, I realized that items like hummus and mutabbal are now a vibrant part of Kuwaiti dining.
But it surely must be easier to delegate things as time goes by. Of course! You delegate, but the problem with having an amazing team like mine is that you end up feeling more relaxed and less involved, which is a mistake [laughing]. But seriously, I am always in the kitchen, and I love checking on our customers personally. It’s important to build a good foundation with a solid team, and this is what guarantees longevity in any operation.
This is true. Even the modern dairy options we have were not part of traditional Kuwaiti dining, so this evolution makes sense. When it comes to dairy specifically cow’s milk and cow’s milk products, it is one of the later arrivals to Kuwaiti cuisine. Kuwait had sheep, goats, and camels- and we used to make fresh cream from the milk, and we drank laban. Even rice is a novelty, traditionally, we used to consume more bread, like
46
[...Continued]
khobz rgag. If we were going to get super traditional in how we prepare our food today, people wouldn’t be enjoying machboos with rice. THE FUTURE Do you feel like you want to make some changes to keep things fresh at Khaneen? People love our classic flavors, which is why I am anti-fusion. I am always open to the idea of modifying the menu and adding new items that borrow from the region, but that’s the extent of it like Kebab and warag enab. You won’t be seeing burgers here anytime soon. You come to a traditional place for a traditional food, you want hummus, you get hummus! You want Machboos, and you will get the full service of the classic. How do you imagine the next ten years for Khaneen? I am optimistic, and looking towards a more prosperous future with more branches in the pipeline in the region.

Data for Digital Transformation Imagine that you’re leaving work from Kuwait City, heading for a walk with friends in Salmiya at the Scientific Center. You get into your car and input the address into your phone. The app returns two possible routes. The first route utilises a congested road, and shows an estimate of 45 minutes to reach your destination. The second route uses the seaside road and shows a ‘green’ estimate of 22 minutes. You select the 22 minutes route to ensure that you will arrive on time. Without realising it, you’ve just made a datadriven decision, and the map application has digitally transformed your driving experience. In this instance, the data-driven decision you made was possible because: 1) Other drivers shared their location with the app (while anonymous), making the DATA available and 2) App developers used ANALYTICS to personalise the estimates for your trip, giving you options that were both available and accurate. Aided by technology, we make personalised data-driven decisions in countless digital encounters every day. And this requires data that is analysed to provide you with timely feedback, which actually starts with the ‘content creators’ - the app developers and website authors who process the data into content that digitally transforms the customer experience. In other words, digital transformation starts with data and trickles down to experience.

SWEET DREAMS ARE MADE OF
BLUE Unleashing the powerful
Ferrari 296 GTS By bazaar Staff
It is a spectacle in blue as the latest evolution of Maranello’s road-going two-seater Berlinetta spider makes a splash on Kuwait’s Al Bida’s seashore. The glorious 296 GTS in Blu Corsa is redefining the whole concept of fun behind the wheel, especially when paired with Kuwait’s creative talents Munirah AlShami and Abdullah Alsaleh. It is an adventure of sun, sand, and pure emotion with the Ferrari 296 GTS.
A sight to behold, the 296 GTS is all about sophisticated lines. When driving top down, true pleasure is experienced as this spider introduces an entirely fresh narrative to Ferrari with its groundbreaking design. The challenge of storing the Retractable Hard Top (RHT) within the engine area motivated the Ferrari Styling Centre team, led by Flavio Manzoni, to innovate a new tonneau cover design. These unique geometries have resulted in stylistic elements that diverge significantly from recent Ferrari spiders. Contrasting the 296 GTB’s horizontally arranged engine bay dominated by two flying buttresses, reminiscent of the iconic 250 Le Mans archetype, the 296 GTS boasts an utterly distinctive rear design. The 296 GTS, the evolution of Ferrari’s mid-rear-engined two-seater Berlinetta spider concept, is powered by the new 120° V6 engine coupled with a plug-in (PHEV) electric motor, which unleashes a massive 830 cv in total. The car thus redefines the whole concept of fun behind the wheel, guaranteeing pure emotions not just when it is being pushed to its limits, but also in day-to-day driving situations. The soul of Ferrari perseveres with unparalleled strength, as the 29S GTS delivers unthinkable performance levels and an innovative, exhilarating, and unique soundtrack, further enhanced by the fact that it can be relished with the top down. The 296 GTS stands as a testament to practicality with its plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system, not only ensuring exceptional usability but also slashing pedal response times to nil while granting a 25km range in all-electric eDrive mode. Its nimble dimensions, paired with groundbreaking dynamic control systems and finely tuned aerodynamics, guarantee an immediate sense of awe-inspiring agility and responsiveness to every driver’s command. Its sleek, athletic design and remarkably compact build not only visually accentuate its distinctive and contemporary aesthetics but also deftly pay homage to classics like the 1963 250 LM, marrying elegance with practicality seamlessly.

SHARING STORIES WITH ANONYM(US)
The platform where people can share stories and experiences anonymously By bazaar Staff
In today’s day and age, we have lots of stories that we need to share but we aren’t always comfortable using our names and faces to do so. This has been even more apparent recently since world events have led us to have words and thoughts that we need to expel into the world, perhaps a safe space. This is where Anonym(us) comes in. People can share experiences and stories anonymously without the fear of judgement. The team behind Anonym(us) tells us: “We hope to create a space that normalizes all kinds of shared experiences and builds a community that encourages safe expression anonymously via dialogue, art, writing or any desired medium.” Anonym(us)’s project’s goal is to have these stories published in a printed and digital zine sorted by topic and trigger level with the storyteller’s consent. The reason for these zines is for readers to connect to stories they resonate with, and to destigmatize expressing oneself. We love this idea and we definitely know that this is something our readers would definitely be keen on as well. “We aspire that this project creates a community of people with agency over their own narratives, and inspires people to hold space for others and themselves,” shares the Anonym(us) team. The team shared a story with us they obtained consent from the author to publish. Editor’s note: the story has been edited for clarity: “Anyone I tried to approach as a kid in school to befriend turned me away. This is how it’s like growing up an awkward boy with interests that don’t match what is popular. Being a guy, I was taught by my family to stick up for myself, but there was no rule book for how confrontation happens. So I froze instead, I chose to stay silent because I knew that telling the teachers wouldn’t help. I didn’t have many friends until senior year, one of them who now is my best friend. I think I lucked out because she understood me fully and didn’t assume anything about me. I hate it when humans do that, you never know a person fully, not even your closest friend. Sometimes I wonder where this expectation of men needing to be strong and verbal 24/7 came from. I wish I could tell my parents how I really feel. That sometimes life is not the image they expect of me. What I want is a little acceptance.” If you have something to get off your chest, or you have a story that you are not comfortable sharing with the world in your own name, we recommend you reach out to Anonym(us) on their Instagram page @anonym.us.stories and you can also email them on anonym.us.stories@gmail.com. 60

DASH-ING TO NEW MEDIA HEIGHTS Dishing it out with Dash-Media on energizing Kuwait’s media scene By bazaar Staff
Even if you’ve never heard of Dash-Media, you’ve probably seen their campaigns somewhere, like the catchy WEYAY Bank National Day or the iconic Sunkist TV ads. It’s a production and creative house, with an objective of creating success stories for their client’s projects by producing, and creating Films, programs, and video production. In reality, the Dash-Media team tell us that it’s their fun home where they all gather with their team - as there are no managers, no employees, just family - with very few offices and open living space for gathering, talking, playing, and a lot of brainstorming. They’ve been producing hit after hit that live rent-free in our heads. You don’t get to that point without a team of qualified experts who know what they’re doing. We met with co-founders of DASH - Media Alya Al-Askari, Mohamed Maged, and Hatem Hosam Eldien and Ali, an invaluable member and pillar at DASH-Media to learn more about their journey.
DASH- Founders How do you introduce yourselves as individuals? And what is your role at DASH? How did you meet? Alya Al-Askari – Co-Founder of DASH and Executive Director: A communications expert with 22 years of experience in the fields of media, journalism, and external relations. My career path has passed through Kuwait News Agency, the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science, and the World Bank of Washington. In 2020, I decided on a career diversion to Psychology, and currently completing my postgraduate degree in Psychology. I am also a proud mother of two amazing boys, Yousif and Sulaiman. I met Hatem when I was working at the World Bank, I was one of his clients, and we worked on a project for about 6 months, and from there, a friendship grew followed by a partnership as we founded DASH. I met the rest of the team on our first meeting for DASH. My role as the Executive 62
Director at DASH, includes all admin related affairs and external relations affairs, in addition to content creation in some projects. Mohamed Maged, Co-founder of DASH-Media: Egyptian Director, one of the Notable Alumni of the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles, and a graduate of The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York, USA, and achieved my Bachelor’s and a postgraduate degree in filmmaking and cinema studies from the Academy of Art in Egypt. I worked in advertising, animation projects, TV commercials, and films as a creative, copywriter, animator, and director, and participated in most of the various hit campaigns, branding, and TV commercials in MENA over the past decade. I won and have been nominated for over 85 international and regional awards from different films and advertising festivals.
My role primarily is as a Creative Director at DASH, my responsibility is to create ideas with the team and supervise the entire creative process, present and explain them to our clients, and in some projects, I get involved in the execution as a Director. Hatem and I met 8 years ago on an advertising campaign. I was the creative, and he was the director, we became friends after that, and we worked together on many projects, even before we started DASH. And I met Alya just before we started DASH 3 years ago, and we became friends immediately. Hatem Hosam Eldien, Co-founder of DASH Media: Co-founder of DASH and Film Director, born and raised in Kuwait, a graduate of the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Kuwait. My dream was to become an actor, but the wheel of fate steered me towards film directing, which I grew to love. I worked as a freelancer
DASH- Office
Alyia for many years, then established 8K production with partners until I decided with my friends to establish DASH in 2020. My specialty is drama production, documentaries, and advertisement. The DASH partnership sparked from friendships, I am friends with Maged and Alya – separately, I organized a sit down to discuss this project (DASH), and from there we started working together as partners. Ali Alhadi: One of the main pillars of the DASH Group and is responsible for connecting DASH with clients and launching projects, in addition to arranging the financial aspects of any project and hiring crew members. Ali previously was a partner in 8K production and headed the operations department in Al Kout TV. He also worked with a wide array of clients like NBK and Burgan Bank and produced a number of TVCs, TV programs and Feature Films. What inspired you to start DASH? Date of starting? What were you hoping to accomplish? Maged: It’s a really funny story. In early 2020 before the pandemic, Hatem and I had our own plans where each of us was planning to travel abroad, me to the USA and Hatem to Egypt, but due to the pandemic, we decided to cancel our plans and start our own company. Our inspiration came from our passion to create a place where we could present our art and make our own films and productions, so we started our company in 2020. It was a tough time to start a company, but we made it happen. We were hoping, and still are, to establish a company that works to produce artistic works that provide creative and honest content that reaches the world. A company with many branches in the Arab world, which is what we are seeking in the next stage to open a branch of the company in Cairo and Riyadh, and perhaps later in the whole world. Why not?
DASH- Team behind the scene
Hatem: The idea was bigger than DASH, most of the companies around were established by individuals, mostly this individual had a vision and tried to accomplish it through his company. And I believe that such companies are not sustainable. Therefore, the inspiration of DASH is getting together specialties, creativity, and visions under one hub, and we see this in the giant film industry. Alya: The idea of DASH for me first sparked as I was working with Hatem on a special video. I just loved the process of filmmaking, from the start – the brainstorming and creative ideas – to filming and followed by the editing process. It was so different than what I had been working on for 20 years, it was another world! Very exciting, challenging, and lots of fun. So, when Hatem introduced the idea of a partnership I did not hesitate and jumped In, and I found myself in content creation and client relations. What makes DASH different? The DASH family is what makes it different. The passion, dedication, and creativity that
characterizes each member of the DASH family is, of course, reflected in the spirit of the projects that are implemented and felt by the client and the public alike. The difference and strength of any institution, regardless of its orientation or the nature of its work, is fundamentally dependent on the individuals working in it. We are proud to say that we cooperate with the best people in this field on the social and professional levels. Could you please explain the name DASH? From the beginning, we were thinking for sure of a catchy and unique name, and because we aim to make our mark in the market, we decided to use a simple symbol inspired by the KEYBOARD, to be known and used continuously, and we chose “DASH” as a bridge between two words “Clients and audience”, simple, easy to draw and be remembered. Surprisingly, we figured that “DASH” has the same meaning in both English and Kuwaiti Arabic, which means “Entering in a hurry”, which represents our passion, and dedication to our work. DASH- Team behind the scene What is your favorite project so far? Most of our projects are rewarding, and we are proud of all our work, as we aim to illustrate our creativity and visions through our work. However, several projects do stand out, such as the “Central Bank of Kuwait” campaign, which had a very good impact on Kuwait society to raise awareness of Bank fraud, also the Porsche Macan Campaign which was proudly recognized as one of the best 10 Ads in the Middle East at 2021by “Campaign Middle East magazine”, and also ZAIN ads, NBK, Weyay, KIA, and many projects that were awarded in many festivals in the past 2 years that have a special meaning in our memories. What would you consider your biggest achievement so far? One of our biggest achievements was establishing DASH from scratch in 2020, in the middle of the world’s struggle with the Covid pandemic, when most other companies were closed or were going through difficult times, but we started and succeeded. Within 3 years, we transformed DASH from a startup into one of the leaders in its field in the Kuwaiti market. And of course, the trust of our customers is the most important achievement, and the proof is the continuous cooperation and success stories that we create together in every project, and also the expansion of our communications network from local companies to international participation, from shooting to participation in international festivals in different countries such as the Emirates, Saudi Arabia, France, and the United States. 64

Hatem What is your dynamic together as a team? The diversity of individuals and personalities is what makes a partnership grow and evolve. Each one of the team has his/her own creativity, vision, and specialty, and that’s what made it a success. We are all driven towards a joint cause of making DASH a successful hub in our own ways while maintaining our friendships, partnerships and most importantly our respect for each other. What is the funniest thing that happened during a project? Every project has its own fun moments, and during our projects over the past three years, we faced many situations, some of which were fun at the time and others were very difficult, but we dealt with it and it became a fun memory after that. But we remember that on one of the days of filming inside the studio, The artist wore a special costume, which was a large bear that he couldn’t see or hear from.l. While filming,he was walking and rushed toward the set in a comical manner and could not hear the surrounding sounds to warn him! But we thank God that we were taking precautionary safety measures for such situations; otherwise, it wouldn’t be fun at all. 66

Any exciting projects coming up? Absolutely! We have some exciting projects on the horizon. While we can’t reveal all the details just yet but we can give a little teaser of what’s to come. We’re in the stages of post-production for a thrilling feature film that promises to captivate audiences with its compelling storyline and outstanding cast. Our team is also working to develop an innovative and visually
striking commercial campaign for a renowned brand that will certainly leave a great impression. Also, we’re collaborating on a documentary series, and program show, that will shed light on inspiring reallife stories and offer a fresh perspective on important issues in the area. These are just a taste of what’s to come, and we can’t wait to share more details as these projects unfold. Just stay tuned for updates on our upcoming!

EXPLORE THE DELIGHTS OF TRUFFLES AT FOUR SEASONS HOTEL KUWAIT AT BURJ ALSHAYA Indulge in the umami-rich gifts of nature By bazaar Staff
Dai’s Forni’s Truffle Presentation in Al Banco
This winter, Chef Luigi Frassanito and his team of culinary maestros at Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait are taking “la golosita del tartufo” – the delights of truffles – to new heights with a special menu dedicated to one of the world’s most coveted ingredients at 21st floor Italian restaurant, Dai Forni. 72
Between 6pm and 11pm until December 30, guests will be transported to the heart of Italian gourmet cuisine via the magical allure and opulent flavors of natural gems from the incredible Alba white truffle – “the diamond of the kitchen”– to the rich black Perigord truffle. From Pollo Croccante to Insalata Tartufata, Chef Luigi Frassanito has drawn on his southern Italian roots to create a seasonal menu of truffle-inspired masterpieces. “There’s no doubting the elegance and sophistication that truffles add to the culinary experience,” comments Chef Luigi, whose selfstyled cucina libera (“free cuisine”) is dedicated to “conveying the authenticity of Italian cuisine. Luxurious, exceptionally fragranced and with a distinctive complex flavor, all on their own, truffles are, in my opinion, Italy’s greatest gift to global gastronomy, and I am looking forward to sharing their wonders with the diners of Kuwait.” The signature dishes on Dai Forni’s exclusive truffle menu include: Chef Luigi Frassanito and ward-winning Mono-Cultivar Coratina extra virgin olive oil
Tortino Tartufo (Truffle Torte) This unusual creation is inspired by Chef Luigi’s lunches at a chalet while working in Piedmont - a region in Italy famous for truffle and polenta. While his favorite dish there was Polenta Concia, he always brought a piece of truffle along with him to “complete my plate”. Il Tesoro Dei Burger (Treasure Burger) Created with the intention to “deliver luxurious Italian taste in every bite”, this divinely flavourful burger comes in a home-made bun and features Alba black truffle, Piana del Sele rocket, stracciatella from Lecce, and portobello mushroom from Prealpi Bergamasche. Thanks to excellent contacts in his homeland, Chef Luigi is able to source some of Italy’s finest truffles exclusively for Dai Forni guests. And his passion for each variety is contagious. “The undisputed queen of the truffles is the white Alba truffle,” he enthuses. “It is one of the most expensive ingredients in modern cuisine on account of its brief seasonal appearance—October to December—only in the forests of Piedmont.” Another star of the Dai Forni seasonal truffle menu is the highly prized black Perigord truffle. “It blooms for slightly longer than the Alba white truffle at the roots of oak, beech, birch and poplar trees,” explains Chef Luigi, “but is just as sought after by truffle hunters and chefs due to its earthy almost nutty flavor.”

Divine Drink Pairings Beautifully complementing each artisan mouthful, a truffleinspired mocktail menu adds extra Italian flamboyance to the experience. Tortino Tartufo is paired with Truffle on the Rocks – a zingy combination of Lyre’s Italian Spritz, grapefruit, apple and lime juice and basil syrup with a cheeky truffle twist, while the elegant Tartufo Giallo sets off Il Tesoro Dei Burger with smoky Lapsang, pineapple juice, homemade rosemary syrup, lemon juice and a spritz of truffle oil. Every day until December 30, 2023, Chef Luigi’s Dai truffle menu will complement the existing authentic Italian delights at Dai Forni – served in a bright and buzzy atmosphere centered around the huge copper-sheathed wood-burning ovens that give the restaurant its name. Guests can also take home some of the magic from Dai’s Forni’s ‘Truffle Presentation in Al Banco’ (at the table) where exclusive items like truffle salt, truffle oil, award-winning Mono-Cultivar Coratina extra virgin olive oil, and pure truffles are available to purchase from a seasonal display area. Served with a side of expansive city views from the restaurant’s Mediterranean-style outdoor terrace, truffle season at Dai Forni offers a unique chance to experience one of nature’s most dazzling delicacies at the hands of one of the country’s most astounding Italian maestros.

THE CONVERSATION: FEATURING MANAYER AND BOODA Munirah AlShami and Abdullah Alsaleh reflect on content creation in Kuwait, creative insecurities and carving the space for their own creative journeys By Manayer, Booda, edited by bazaar staff
It is unprecedented. In this special feature, we’ve tasked the ultra-creative duo to take the editorial lead in one candid conversation. They really require no formal introduction. They’ve both shaped our creative perceptions of content creation in Kuwait. Each with their own respective styles, we wanted Manayer and Booda, two bona fide freelance content creators, to spill the beans on the field they are working so hard to elevate. Discover their views on the local creative landscape, Sadu weaving, and their views on the content coming out on Palestine.
78
Part One: On Palestine. Manayer: In my mind, the art coming out on Palestine gave people a chance to make art that has a story. Because when a lot of people do their art, they don’t know why they’re doing it. They don’t know how to feel about it, or they’re scared to share it because it’s very personal. This is different as Palestine is an experience that we all share in common. There’s no right or wrong. Anything you make is your expression of it. And you just...Yallah. Booda: Yes, I agree with that. Manayer: It forces people to put their emotions into their art. Booda: I think everyone was trying to find different ways to express themselves, specifically with the Palestinian cause. Manayer: Yes! I think it added so much. In terms of the variety of the art that came out. Booda: Even the people that stuck with a certain genre, for example those who usually would do typography and graphic design, dove into other things. Manayer: We are now experiencing so many different mediums, but they’re all talking about the same subject. So, it’s there as a constant, which is the subject, and then the changing variable is what medium you’re using. It’s like an art project in school, all of us have the same theme. Booda: Basically, it’s the same prompt and everyone does it in their own way. But how did this contribute to a global awakening? Manayer: Because there are so many different ways that it is communicated, some people will be moved by a photograph, other people will be moved by information. You know what I mean? Booda: I think it was purely the shareability factor. It’s the art that was created during the movement. And we saw specific pieces that were shared so often, and so many different versions of it contributed to the global awakening and understanding of the situation. I think art or creativity transcends political war, these intense topics, and takes us to the next level where everything is accepted. Understood. For example, as far as Falasteen goes, there are so many different opinions about it, and when the subject is creatively expressed, and it becomes art, it’s easily understood. Manayer: Ah! So, art simplifies the situation, and the information just hits home… Booda: Home in a way where it doesn’t really offend anyone. Yeah. Part Two: On the local creative landscape Manayer: So I think that both of us share this quality: We’re not scared to try new things and be shut down 24/7. Booda: I’ve been shut down so many times. Manayer: This is something very powerful that I want to inject in every creative, because it is the only way, I think both of our main goals in Kuwait… Booda: Specifically, in Kuwait! Manayer: Is to infiltrate the mainstream and try to get new ideas out. Try to get new mediums, new technologies, new ways of saying things. So, I think how we contribute to the local landscape is: We shake things up. This only came after clients began to trust you, being said no to so many
times, and having a ‘dead’ folder with so many projects that people didn’t trust. Booda: It’s also been through me simply calling you up with any idea. “Manayer, hi, I have an idea. We need to do this.” We make something and then suddenly we’re on the beach, and you are half submerged in the water. There are things that we’ve done and photos that we’ve taken that aren’t generally accepted by society, especially in Kuwait. But I firmly believe, and I know you would agree, that it pushed the limits in a way. It gave more room for people to be able to express in a way they didn’t have before. Manayer: How we also contribute to the landscape is through the intention of the artwork. It’s artistic, and it’s there for it to be beautiful and not for it to provoke anything. We’re not trying to prove a point. I think that translates into our work so much. Honestly, if we do something and it takes us six hours and we never post it, that doesn’t matter. And if we post it, and it goes viral, same thing. We feel the same about a project that we’re excited about whether it’s out in the world or not. And we have so many of them. Booda: Where do you think the local scene is currently at? Is collaborating really building a stronger creative community? Manayer: It’s simple! The more brains, the more exciting it is. I’m always curious about how other people think about a project. It’s just that a lot of people struggle with communication and trust. So that sets back a lot of people. But if you just let go, collaborative work can be so good. Booda: For me, I think the creative community and creators are still at a stage where every creative is trying to prove themselves. So when a creative or an artist hears the word collaboration, maybe there’s either ‘Okay, who does the ownership go to? Who leads the project? What kind of medium? Is it? What kind of style is it? How do we mesh?’ Who’s louder? You know what I mean? Manayer: Yes. Booda: We don’t have a lot of collaboration still. It’s very cliquey, we’re at the stage where the creative community still struggles with ownership and proving themselves. Part Three: On creative insecurities and career setbacks Manayer: What are some of your career insecurities, and how have you overcome them? Booda: If we’re going to talk about the past month and a half, I would say that my creative ability to come up with ideas, even for fun, has been depleted. I think that’s one of the biggest challenges and insecurities because I do face it. It’s a challenge for me to be creative during a time when my mental well-being and my mental health are not doing well. It’s also like a doubleedged sword. Because at the lowest point with my mental health, I’ve also found the best ideas. Manayer: For me, it’s not so much insecurity. It’s more like constant thoughts I have, ‘What are you contributing to the world?’ You know? Sometimes it’s a struggle to justify why I’m doing something and how I don’t need to have a reason. You know what I mean? Like, you don’t need to feel guilty about the art you’re making even if it doesn’t serve any purpose. Even that is a myth.
It’s a double-edged sword. Because I can’t create something that’s not, in one way or another, functional or purposeful. Manayer: But here’s another thought, can you share a moment of professional setback or failure and how it impacted your journey? What did you learn from it? Booda: When starting the journey of being a photographer in Kuwait, I had setbacks, because I would take on freelance projects while working full time in marketing. I worked with people who didn’t necessarily have a vision, but expected the photos to have a certain type of quality. I wasn’t aware that [art] direction played a huge role in the process and content creation management is a 50/50 split: You are creating the content but also the person that’s asking for the content has to be able to give their part and direct you. I tried my best to deliver. And it definitely made me feel insecure because the photos weren’t at the quality that I would have liked them to be. It was frustrating to work on content and not think it looked good, even in post-production. Now it’s different. When I take on a project, I’m able to evaluate the client. There are clients who will make me feel that way, versus clients who I know are invested in their brand. Their project is at 100% and I’m able to vibe off of them to create content that mirrors the 100%. And I’ve seen the difference. Maybe it’s the experience that I’ve added in the number of projects that I’ve done, but it’s also the feeling of being supported by the client. Manayer: I think for me, it’s the small encounters here and there that are so repetitive. Basically, small setbacks that involve me not accepting how my emotional state plays a huge role in my projects. Like earlier on, you think you’re on it, but then you’re shocked at results. And you make excuses for them. External excuses, when you know deep down it’s you. So accepting that and realizing that it’s okay. Nothing teaches you about what you are good at, or not good at, other than professional setbacks and failures that you face alone. I mean, it’s easier to blame a project not going well when you’re in like a corporate environment, when you’re in a big group. But to go through many failures on your own is different. Booda: 100% If I’m talking about Booda and photography, one of the worst failures that I’ve had is taking photos of food! Manayer: Oh my god. Yeah, I can’t do F&B and I can’t do publications because I want screens. Booda: You know, if you’ve done it once, you’ve done it twice, and you’re like, oh my god, this is just not working out. Manayer: You have to be okay with the things you’re not good at. Booda: And them not working for you. I tried full time agency work shooting for an ice cream client. It was one of the worst experiences of my life and I love ice cream! It was just one thing after the other all the time. It was summer in Kuwait, the ice cream kept melting no matter what I did even if the room was cold! I also tried burgers for a restaurant, and it still did not work. I could not connect with what I was shooting. Manayer: For me, it’s doing a branding thing for a makeup brand. Makeup. It’s a world I know nothing about. And I had to communicate [Continued...]

to that audience that I didn’t understand. So, when the deliverables are things I’m so used to but the subject matter is so unfamiliar, I didn’t know! Is this good? I don’t know. I realized that I’m more into time-based projects like sports music, entertainment, not F&B, not publications like a newspaper or anything political, unless it’s propaganda and political in a rebellious way. Booda: This is one other thing that comes up. I think that the way that marketing execs work and the way that creatives work are so alike but they’re so different. Because if we put on marketing hats, it’s so different than when we put on our creative hats. Manayer: So true! I can be the most capitalist, consumer hungry designer you will ever see. And it will work. I will hate it. But it will work. That’s also I think a double-edged sword where I can wear that hat. And sell an idea that’s based off nothing because our demographic in Kuwait, I’m sad to say, is so easy to convince. Booda: Perhaps yes, from that angle. But from my experience, If there’s a marketing brief, you do it. Manayer: It’s easy. Do you want traffic on a website? Do you want to sell out your product? Easy. Booda: There are easy ways to implement this strategy, and then you pair third party people. To be honest, if I have to put on my marketing hat and the creative hat at the same time, and it’s something I don’t believe in, then it doesn’t work. That’s a struggle and a clash. One of either elements will be so bad. At the same time, the market in Kuwait expects you to be able to do both. Manayer: And everything else. Booda: Yeah, it’s extremely hard to be able to manage a project, do the marketing and do the creative part because that’s not how it’s supposed to be. There are creative teams, and marketing teams that work together to be able to create great projects that make an impact. That’s 100% a challenge for me and that’s one of the first things I think about before going into a project. I look at the team that’s involved. ‘Oh, this is the amount of people that are here. Perfect, I know it’s going to work.’ Miami. For me, was easily one of the freshest experiences I’ve had. I knew who is there. You are the one that’s leading the creative, Jassim AlQamis and the rest of his team were leading the production and creating... Manayer: Clear cut roles. Booda: Yes! I know what’s gonna happen. That’s why it was amazing. Regardless of how big or small the project is, when the right team is in place, this signals to me that it will leave a mark on everyone else. Manayer: I think another challenge in Kuwait specifically, is convincing clients that the Western idea of doing things is not the way to go here. You know, I’m all for polished work. I’m all for hiring the best of the best from abroad to do things, but convincing clients that the more local you are, the more human you are, the rawer it is, the more successful the project is going to be, is the hardest thing in the world. We have creatives here, but this trust in them isn’t there… Booda: Yes, and we don’t mean anything by it. 80
[Continued...]
It’s just… Manayer: The only way the industry is going to grow is by giving people here chances to execute. Booda: Allowing more voices to be involved, that creates change. Manayer: It taught me the power of community. Any strategy that’s based on grassroots content, and crowd sourced content, is successful. I haven’t worked on any project where the strategy is crowd-sourced and it didn’t hit home. You can use the best cameras, the best equipment, the most expensive lighting structures. At the end of the day, if you relate to people, then you’re successful. Booda: It also depends on the brand that you’re working with in the project and if it’s something that requires for it to be as related to the culture is something that connects with the masses and this relates to people in Kuwait. Not so much with westernized, Niche brands where you have to follow clear-cut dictated brand guidelines from abroad. Part Four: Achievements and reflections Booda: I think you have a real good one to start off this part. Your Sadu work. Manayer: [Laughs] Yes. This year, for me has shaped so much of my creative personality. Let’s call it okay, because I always knew that I wanted to mesh the art world with the design world. Booda: Multimedia design, multimedia artists. Manayer: I was never about the medium. It’s more about the concept of something old and putting in my two cents. That contrast. I love anything that has to do with that contrast of an old craft that is being revived. I didn’t think that was possible. Three years ago, I was like ‘Oh my God, I wish I can just be in the desert and weave’. Booda: Which is what is going to happen! Manayer: And then this winter, I have a custom,
two-meter loom, that I will have in the desert. And potentially sell! Something I thought was so far-fetched as merely a hobby can turn into a profession. I’ve never felt... Booda: Hobby turned expression turned into a profession. Manayer: Yes! But I’ve used all my skills in my professional world before, but this feels different. I’ve never felt prouder of myself other than saying things like I graduated, or we did a huge project, we signed a massive deal. Booda: You created an amazing platform called Abaih! Manayer: We created that entertainment platform out of passion. We rebranded one of the biggest marathons in Kuwait. Booda: You built another platform from scratch. Manayer: I mean, we’ve done so much, but when I just merely finished the five levels of Sadu, however, it was one of the best moments of my life. How? Because it felt so real. It felt so right. That’s the only way I can explain it, and then there’s the show, right! Working on my childhood dream project, which was Miami, was a close second. Miami isn’t just a band, it’s songs, feelings and memories that have helped me through the roughest days of my life. I think maybe this is the first time I say it out loud. They don’t know that they’ve been there for me for these moments when I’ll feel something and then put on a random Miami song, and it just changes my perspective for that day. Miami was a game changer. It was my therapy. To get to design the visual identity for the best concert they would ever have and do them justice… Booda: Hang on, it’s not just that! To be able to design and lead the whole creative part! Manayer: No, it’s just being on stage with them, and working on it with you! Booda: Creating content for the whole thing…

Manayer: I will forever… Booda: Curating magical back-ups, putting together last-minute moving parts… Manayer: It was amazing! So... What about you? Booda: I’m going to keep it really simple. The best accomplishment is quitting full time work. Manayer: Took you long enough. Booda: Oh my god. Manayer: I know! But I have to say this. It’s hard. It’s hard trusting yourself and trusting your financial ability to stay afloat. Because it’s not easy. I remember a time when I went into an interview for one of the biggest banks in Kuwait. And I went I went through all the interviews. I was gonna work in a bank. Do you realize? Booda: If you worked in a bank, I don’t know how our relationship could be like. It would be very different. Manayer: You have to admit like the offer was attractive. Booda: Oh my god, the bonuses. Manayer: The easy hours. The clear-cut deliverables. Booda: The fact that you can go in at eight or nine and leave it at two or three and be done. No more work. It’s done. Manayer: It’s hard to say no to that. Booda: Because we’ve been traumatized. Always working PTSD. Continuously being PTSD’d every day. But even the fact that we always complain about how the work is never ending. It doesn’t beat the satisfaction level that we get out of freelance projects. It’s me lately, how I feel compared to the satisfaction level of working a full-time job where you’re just pouring project after project. Another day, another brief. Another artwork. Another client. Suddenly it’s a million done tasks and none of them mean anything to you. Manayer: It’s not to say that everyone should do that. Booda: Yes, some people are so well made for that grind. Manayer: So, what do you want to channel your energy on? Booda: It’s also about time and knowing that it comes with experience. Time always told me when to end the marketing chapter of my life. It said Booda, you cannot do marketing. I learned so much from it. I met so many people from it. I cannot do it full time. It’s not something that I’m able to keep up with. There are other people that are so able and I’m so impressed by their ability. Manayer: I think that’s what it is. I can’t relate to a competitive strategy when it comes to work. Booda: At all. Manayer: That’s why freelancing works with us. Many people thrive on a competitive mindset when it comes to career. I don’t relate to that at all. Booda: At all! Manayer: I think I’ve evolved. More and more, I am standing by how I am as a creative. I take things for what they are. This is what I’m doing now. I remind myself that life is now. What is it that I want to do now? It’s a double-edged sword, again, we said this 600 times. Booda: Because everything is a double-edged sword. 82
[...Continued]
Manayer: I really struggle with finishing projects that are not client based. It was so hard for me to admit that all my passion projects that have been open ended, and this is because I take things as a practice, they never finish. But you have to create some sort of check-point. When it’s a client, and I know the deadline, I am so disciplined. But for personal projects, it’s a a state of flow. I’m scared with pressuring myself to finish something. Now I acknowledge: No, you can set a deadline. You can finish a project, even if it’s not client related. So, for now, this is what I am struggling with: Making my creative practice that’s not client based as result-worthy. It needs to fine a result. Booda: Is that changing for you? Manayer: Yes, because people are expecting an exhibition. That’s shifting this year because people are expecting results. Booda: Doesn’t that stop it from staying as a passion project? Manayer: Yes, but it’s still more a passion project than it is something serious. So, it’s fun. It’s fun to tap into that new side of me. Booda: For me it’s the opposite. You know me with passion projects versus client-based projects. Manayer: You’re too strict! Booda: Yes, I will plan it so hard! Maybe my passion projects are different than your passion projects. Mine are not as easily time changed as yours. Manayer: Yeah. Booda: Because you do have the advantage of being able to pause. I can’t really pause. With photography, it has to be done. It’s can’t be undone or changed- it’s taken, it’s done. That’s how it is. It’s one of my favorite things about photography. And I think all of my passion projects have been like this. Super planned. Shoot, shoot, shoot. Can’t sleep. I have to edit the photos NOW. Yeah. And you know how fast that I edit anything.
And I think that’s something I need to work on. Yeah, I think I need to work on giving myself time to be able to... Manayer: Change up your creative process. Booda: Yes, be lenient and allow for more room to make mistakes, and learn from the mistakes because I’ve been so militant when it comes to photography, that now when I’m not, I feel like something’s wrong. Manayer: And we are our worst critics. Booda: Yes. And also, learning how to say no! Manayer: I’m so okay with not being the best all the time. Booda: [laughs] I get it. Manayer: And it’s not to anyone’s standards, it’s my own. They are so high! Booda: Like, did you think that people are going to levitate? Manayer: It’s fine. No one cares. No one’s watching you. Booda: Nothing matters. Manayer: This is something I love about myself. I can easily go there. There being that I’m so okay with me being so insignificant to this world. It humbles me so much. If you look at the world, in that perspective, in a positive perspective, it’s so liberating, because it allows you to make the biggest mistakes allows you to test out the craziest ideas. And the end of the day, it doesn’t matter. Booda: It teaches you to get out of your own head.

YOUNG BOY WITH CANDLES An unfortunate birthday By Craig Loomis
And then there is the often told tale that, over the years, has taken on the stuff of familial legend, about the little boy who on his third birthday was just learning how to blow out candles. Understandably, he was not good at puckering and blowing at the same time, and the best he could do was send a tickle of air up his nose. Finally, not knowing any better and getting frustrated that the three tiny flames were still there, not to mention that his mother was getting tired of waiting with camera, “Yellah, Yellah,” along with a cousin who had not stopped insisting, “Let me do it. Me, me,” he leaned too close and his lips caught fire. As a rule, lips cannot catch fire and yet the story goes that in this special case, they did. The birthday boy, thinking that it some mysterious way this was all part of the blowing, at first smiled, then cried and then smiled while crying. Meanwhile, the other birthday-goers with hats and balloons, squealed with delight, the clapping of kiddy hands, thinking, they don’t know how he did it but the bright colors were exciting, with one little girl all in pretty pink hurrying to get a better looksee. By now his mother had dropped her camera, shrieking, “Leish?” What’s wrong with you?” which stopped all squealing.
But never mind all of that because the candles were out, three curleques of smoke. He’d done it, and although it still hurt, his lips, and his mother had swooped in with a glass of ice tea, he had done it, although the hurting part was something he’d rather avoid. The cousin, arms folded, pouty, calmly looked on before insisting that he could have done it better. And so there was that rush to the emergency room where he, Mom and uncle had to endure the doctor’s lecture about how lips and fire were always a terrible combination. Some honey-like salve was applied to his now red swollen lips, and although the hurt lingered, the swollen part made his lips look duckish—a double hurt. By the time they returned to his party, the partygoers were gone, the cake and ice cream eaten, with assorted party hats and balloons scattered 90
across the patio. The only one left was the cousin who had decided to open his birthday presents, “Just in case you didn’t come back right away.” For the longest time his lips were blistered with a new fleshy pink, and it hurt to smile, to grin, and yet every time his mother told the story, the listeners full of “Oh my Gods,’ he couldn’t help but feel strangely proud, something like a wounded hero, never mind his duck lips. For this his fourth birthday, according to legend, there was, of course, more cake and ice cream with candles, and everyone who had shown up the year before, if truth be told, were eager to see what would happen. But when it came to blowing out the candles this time, his mother— not being a mother for nothing—leaned over his shoulder, beating him to the blowing out part;
and to his credit there was nothing like crying or throwing some kind of four-year-old fit. A quiet sob was the best he could do while there was a sort of unspoken disappointment among those who remembered his third birthday. But never mind because the clapping of kiddy hands, along with a ‘Bravo’ from the uncle who had had too much to drink helped a little. The boy is older now, 15, maybe 16, and every birthday he must endure the retelling of the day his lips caught fire, and how, now, everyone can have a good laugh about it. And yet, his laughter is only for their sake because after all these years he is remains convinced that his lips are still duckish. Photo by Lan Gao on Unsplash.
THE FERRARI 296 GTB
Defining Fun to Drive By bazaar Staff
The 296 GTB, the latest evolution of Maranello’s mid-rear-engined two-seater berlinetta, was premiered recently during an online event broadcast on Ferrari’s social media and web channels. The 296 GTB redefines the whole concept of fun behind the wheel, guaranteeing pure emotions not just when pushing the car to its limits, but also in day-to-day driving situations. Test driving the Ferrari 296 GTB in Kuwait was a thrilling experience that engages the senses with its distinctive sound, exceptional handling, and jawdropping acceleration.
92
Engine Roar and Sound: As you settle into the driver’s seat of the Ferrari 296 GTB, the first thing that captures your attention is the unmistakable growl of the engine. The car is powered by a hybrid V6 engine, blending the traditional Ferrari V8 sound with an electrifying whirr from its electric motor. The harmonious symphony of these two power sources creates a unique and powerful soundtrack that echoes through the streets of Kuwait. The 296 GTB ushers in an authentic revolution for Ferrari as it introduces a new engine type to flank the marque’s multi-awardwinning 8- and 12-cylinder power units: a new 663 cv 120° V6 coupled with an electric motor capable of delivering a further 122 kW (167 cv). This is the first 6-cylinder engine installed on a road car sporting the Prancing Horse badge: it unleashes its massive 830 cv total power output to deliver previously unthinkable performance levels and an innovative, exhilarating and unique soundtrack. Engaging the engine, you feel a visceral connection to the car’s performance.
The Ferrari 296 GTB’s sound is not just about volume; it’s about precision and artistry, a melodic representation of the engineering masterpiece beneath the hood. Whether cruising through the city or pushing the car to its limits on the open road, the auditory experience is a testament to Ferrari’s commitment to automotive excellence. Handling and Precision: Navigating the streets of Kuwait in the Ferrari 296 GTB is an exercise in precision and control. The car’s aerodynamic design, coupled with advanced suspension systems, ensures a seamless connection between the driver, the road, and the car itself. Whether weaving through tight city streets or taking on winding desert roads, the Ferrari 296 GTB responds with remarkable agility. The steering is responsive and finely tuned, offering an intimate connection between the driver’s hands and the road. Every turn is executed with confidence, and the car maintains impeccable stability even at high speeds. The 296 GTB’s handling is not just about raw power;
it’s a ballet of engineering, a dance between driver and machine that elevates the driving experience to new heights. Acceleration and Power: Pushing the accelerator of the Ferrari 296 GTB is like unleashing a force of nature. The hybrid powertrain, combining a turbocharged V6 engine with an electric motor, delivers instantaneous and relentless acceleration. The car propels forward with a surge of power that pins you to your seat, leaving little doubt about its performance capabilities. The 296 GTB’s plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system guarantees it is an incredibly usable car as well as cutting pedal response times to zero and delivering a 25km range in all-electric eDrive mode. referencing the likes of the 1963 250 LM, the perfect marriage of simplicity and functionality. The acceleration of the Ferrari 296 GTB is not only impressive in terms of speed but also in its efficiency. The hybrid system seamlessly transitions between the combustion engine and electric power, providing a boost when needed and maintaining efficiency during cruising. This dual-source power delivery results in a driving experience that is both exhilarating and environmentally conscious. Style and Design: The Ferrari 296 GTB’s design is the result of the desire of the Ferrari Styling Centre to redefine the identity of the mid-rear-engined two-seater berlinetta by giving it an extremely compact line with an original, modern look. Thanks to its short wheelbase and its monolithic, sculpted structure, the 296 GTB is indeed the most compact berlinetta to emerge from Maranello in the last decade. The typical berlinetta fastback configuration has been abandoned in favour of creating a cabin architecture that visually seems set into an imposing volume – the combined effect of the short wheelbase and the composition of elements, such as very 94

muscular wings, the visor-style windscreen, robust flying buttresses and a new vertical rear screen. These forms produce a highly original cabin silhouette that dominates the overall perception of the car. In the open stretches of Kuwait’s highways, the Ferrari 296 GTB truly shines. The acceleration is blistering, and the car effortlessly reaches high speeds with a grace that belies its raw power. It’s a testament to Ferrari’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of automotive engineering, creating a car that is as comfortable in the city as it is on the track. Service and Maintenance: Ferrari’s unparalleled quality standards and increasing focus on client service underpin the extended seven-year maintenance programme offered with the 296 GTB. Available across the entire range, the latter covers all regular maintenance for the first seven years of the car’s life. This scheduled maintenance programme for Ferraris is an exclusive service that allows clients the certainty that their car is being kept at peak performance and safety over the years. This very special service is also available to owners of pre-owned Ferraris.
Regular maintenance (at intervals of either 20,000 km or once a year with no mileage restrictions), original spares and meticulous checks by staff trained directly at the Ferrari Training Centre in Maranello using the most modern diagnostic tools are just some of the advantages of the Genuine Maintenance Programme. The service is available in all markets worldwide and from all Dealerships on the Official Dealership Network. Test driving the Ferrari 296 GTB in Kuwait is an experience that goes beyond the mere act of driving. It’s a sensory journey, from the distinctive engine sound that announces your presence to the precise handling that connects you to the road, and finally, the exhilarating acceleration that defines the very essence of Ferrari’s performance legacy. It’s not just a car; it’s a masterpiece of engineering and a testament to the pursuit of automotive perfection. ROMANCE REVISITED FOR H&M STUDIO’S HOLIDAY CAPSULE COLLECTION Sculptural corsetry, lingerie touches and intensely desirable tailoring - this is what’s trending now in H&M Studio’s Holiday Capsule By bazaar Staff
A return to fashion’s foundations corsetry, lingerie and tailoring - heralds a seductive new era for evening wear in the H&M Studio Holiday capsule collection. Inspired by the clever construction of antique undergarments and the raw structures of the Brutalist architectural style, the collection offsets megawatt dresses with sophisticated suiting. With graceful silhouettes in sensual silk and lace, and a soft-focus color palette, it’s an alluring take on day-to-night dressing. “Timeless dressing and an enduring sense of sophistication defines the H&M Studio Holiday Capsule. We wanted to play around with corsetry, but also revitalize favorite styles like the bias-cut slip dress and the sculptural blazer, all in enduring fabrics that age beautifully and will delight and excite for years to come,” says Ann-Sofie Johansson, Head of Design Womens-wear and Creative Advisor at H&M. H&M Studio is H&M’s most directional, fashion-forward offering. Launched in 2013, the collections are developed in-house by a dedicated design team at the brand’s Stockholm atelier. The H&M Studio Holiday Capsule marks 10 years of H&M Studio, and a new chapter for the limited-edition collections, which were previously released biannually. In a newly expanded remit, from this season H&M Studio will comprise a creative framework that encompasses multiple limited-edition collections per year, with several drops per season. 112
Key pieces to captivate include the voluminous tulle ballgown in dramatic red, the blush-pink lace paneled evening dress, and the sparkling mesh mini dress with its peeka-boo neckline. Lingerie details update the tailoring template, with mesh-trimmed black trousers coordinating with the cropped corset top and slouchy, room-for-two blazer. Then there’s the timelessly appealing pairing of a slinky silver slip dress and an ankleskimming black overcoat. Accessories add edge, with geometric jewelry and minimal strappy sandals. “Poetic and sensual, this characterful collection balances feminine dresses in lace, tulle and silk with more masculine oversized tailoring, for a modern evening wear formula,” says Kathrin Deutsch, collection designer at H&M Studio. Tempting textures meet long-lasting, premium-quality fabrics, with the majority made from more sustainably sourced materials. Highlights include organic silk, recycled wool, Lenzing EcoVero viscose, and sequins made from recycled polyester. Three of the four jewelry pieces are made from recycled aluminum. The H&M Studio Holiday Capsule will be available on December 7 with prices starting from KWD 8.99 on kw.hm.com. 113

DECEMBER MUSIC Singles to give a listen:
Artist: Dua Lipa Single: Houdini
Artist: Aries Single: CABIN FEVER
This first single from Dua Lipa’s yet untitled upcoming third studio album is giving us a little taste of what’s yet to come! “Houdini” embodies the energy of a good night out with a mixture of pop and all those entrancing psychedelic elements that keep you going!
Another driving banger has arrived, just don’t bop your head too hard. Multi-hyphenate artist Aries always delivers with his songs that always manage to be rough around the edges but at the same time so polished and pop influenced with the most intricate production. No words, just a feeling of being 17 again.
Artist: Kevin Abstract Single: What should I do?
Artist: Fred again, Jozzy Single: ten
Just a cute piece of bedroom pop. Abstract rap-sings over a breezy, guitar instrumental, recalling the feelings of a budding love.
Nostalgia takes center stage “again” in all these music suggestions. Fred again.. said this song is inspired by the feeling of “missing home.” With its minimalistic basslines and emotionally driven flows it blends house music with elements of lo-fi, finishing with a warm drop that’s perfectly suited for this sweater weather.

Start by finding inspiration at IKEA You can head to Pinterest, or you can copy us and just head to IKEA. Walk around the store, take pictures of the cozy nooks you like, we love the outdoor set-ups they have at IKEA- The Warehouse (Sabahiya). Discover ambient seating, cozy throws, and accessories to get your creative juices flowing. The best part? Everything is super accessibe and the prices are incredibly competitive!

Start from the ground up We like to start at the very bottom for a solid base and build from there. Rugs are a great way to give yourself that foundation. You can find great options at great prices at IKEA. From sturdy outdoor jute rugs that will withstand the sand and footsteps to adding textured layers for coziness and warmth on a cold winter’s night. Think sheepskin rugs, fuzzy throws, and wool carpets!
Please, sit down Next, you will have to think about how you want to sit. Are you going for a Diwaniya-style Kashta with only floor pillows and cushions? Or do you want to opt for outdoor chairs and patio-style seating? It is important to think of the people who will be joining you too. Whichever way you decide, rest assured that you will find durable, weatherstrong outdoor seating
in IKEA. We love the idea of investing in sturdy seating for longer family gatherings and also varying up the Kashta set-up IKEA’s banana fiber woven poufs. Investing in foldaway, lightweight, easy-to-maneuver chairs and benches is also an option at IKEA. A table for two or twenty Tables matter. You need at least one large enough
to hold all the delicious food you will be bringing along, or grilling yourself. IKEA boasts an array of different tables from large outdoor furniture to foldable picnic tables that can be great. You can even think out of the box by using kid’s furniture since most of it is light and easy to pack and carry. Side tables and smaller ones can also be great accent items for your loudspeaker and other essentials.
Time to eat Add some pizzazz to your kashta table with colorful napkins that fit your theme along with textural tablecloths. These details will integrate the look of your Kashta theme. IKEA has plenty of solutions to ensure that dining under the stars in the great outdoors will go without a hitch. Don’t forget to bring along resealable bags so you can pack away your leftovers too. CREATE YOUR DREAM SOFA WITH MASTARA Custom-made solutions for a better life By bazaar Staff
The sofa is a humble yet ubiquitous piece of furniture. It is the centerpiece of any living room but it is also so much more. We probably spend more time on the sofa than any other place in the home. It needs to be comfortable, practical, stylish, easy to clean and also hard wearing to handle our daily use. The perfect sofa does exist because Mastara will build it to your exact requirements.
128
The custom sofa service from Mastara includes three main services; diwaniya, new sofas and upholstery of people’s existing sofas. The difference between a sofa and a diwanya is that a sofa is an isolated structure with limited seats that they design and produce while a diwaniya is usually a wall-to-wall solution with any number of seats. Upholstery is exclusively replacement of fabrics which we recommend only for high end or designer sofas that are worth the reinvestment. A beautiful part of our culture is the diwaniya, we spend hours in diwaniya socializing, connecting and having important conversations. Mastara wants to make them not just a comfortable space but also aesthetically beautiful and different to what you may see mostly in diwaniyas today. A diwaniya is a staple room of any home and should reflect your personal style as much as any other part of the house. Customization allows this to happen and beyond the design there are so many fabric options to choose from at Mastara which support the longevity and high usage of them, including cigarette and spill proof fabrics that come with ten year warranties. If you can’t wait, you can check out the Mastara website right now. The sofas featured there are Mastara Essential Sofas, available for online purchase, catering to smaller seating needs from 3-5 seaters. These come in a variety of popular fabrics for quick selection. However, for more extensive customization, including altering size, shape, and material, customers can book an appointment or visit the Mastara studio. The online offerings are intentionally limited to ensure a personalized touch through consultations with our expert team, particularly for solutions like diwaniyas. “Our Masatra Essential Sofas have been a result of years of development, offering three distinct styles – Zandi, Tokyo, and Jimmy. These sofas are customizable in terms of fabric, layout, and seat numbers, with extra-deep, extra-wide, and exceptionally comfortable seats. Witnessing customers personalize and make each Mastara sofa uniquely their own is a source of pride for us,” says Carly Arzeen Zandipour, CMO Mastara At Mastara, consultation is key. Whether at the Shuwaikh Industrial studio or through a convenient in-home visit, a specialist will guide you through a curated selection of fabrics, customizable options, including designs, leg choices, and comfort preferences. The studio visit allows firsthand assessment of craftsmanship quality and a broader array of fabric choices. Once you’ve made all of your selections you can then make your order and wait for your new sofa or diwaniya to arrive. The beauty of customization lies in the ability to combine various elements across a palette of fabrics. Whether it’s a 3-seater sofa, matching armchair, coordinating pillows, and curtains with complementing ottomans, customization with Mastara enables the creation of a cohesive and personalized room aesthetic. [Continued...]
129
While the Mastara Essential Sofas are prominently featured, they also collaborate with interior designers, offering bespoke solutions tailored to their concepts. The scope of customization extends beyond the Essential Sofa range, showcasing the versatility in design and production. Beyond in-home consultations and the studio, Mastara has fostered partnerships with like-minded entities in Kuwait. Collaborating with interior designers, fabric suppliers, and maintenance services, they provide comprehensive support, ensuring that customers receive top-notch service and outcomes, not just during the purchase but throughout the lifespan of their furnishings. One of the most exciting parts of creating your own sofa is choosing the fabric. Mastara works with a variety of fabric suppliers across the globe to suit customers’ requirements. Environmentally and health conscious customer can choose from EU ISO certified standards fabric that use less water during production and are made of sustainable material. You can also find fire retardant fabrics that don’t use harsh chemicals as well as a variety of fabrics that are antibacterial, anti-allergy, and the list goes on. “Every order is unique, but those that push design boundaries bring particular excitement. Collaborating with influencers like Ascia and visionary designers such as Ziad Sarkis has led to innovative designs like Ascia’s diwaniya and creatively shaped pieces like Ziad’s Phantom sofa, adding a playful and dynamic dimension to our portfolio,” says Carly Arzeen Zandipour. If you are ready to create your own custom sofa, the Mastara team gave us some tips that you might find helpful: Prioritize functionality before aesthetics. Consider the sofa’s intended purpose, whether for a diwaniya, a reception area, or everyday family use for example, do you need spill and stain protection for kids? Anti-allergy materials or pet friendly? Once functionality is defined, customization becomes an enjoyable process. Design inspiration can come from various sources, allowing customers to personalize their furnishings based on their preferences. Staying informed about global trends and collaborating with a network of designers ensures that the Mastara studio is stocked with fabrics aligned with the latest design directions, so you will find lots of vibrant colors like orange, maroon, and earthy tones which are making a comeback in interior design. Patterns are also trending, influenced by global home textiles events and insights from both international and local designers. Mastara is the first and only bilingual app and website in the region to offer customized sofas, curtains and blinds online. TEXAS ROADHOUSE: THE LEGENDARY STEAK EXPERIENCE Where every visit is filled with juicy steaks, heaping sides, and good times! By bazaar Staff
We can write endless accolades about why we love Texas Roadhouse, but we’ll summarize it all for you in this statement: Every visit consistently delivers us with quality, and legendary service, all wrapped up in an unforgettable dining experience. We don’t just visit for the incredible food, we always come back for the vibes!
140
From the moment you’re greeted by the friendly staff, how you’re presented with complimentary treats, and complimentary heaping sides with your chosen main dishes, to their mastery of steak and ribs, Texas Roadhouse remains unrivaled in Kuwait for its one-of-a-kind, legendary experience. We’ve been around the block and back a few times over, and we’re here to state that nobody does it as well as Texas Roadhouse. We appreciate dining establishments that champion hospitality, and you feel this even before being seated at your table. You’re warmly welcomed by the smiling staff, and country music tunes. Rustic, cozy interiors promise a relaxed experience, so you and your loved ones are in the perfect mood to feast on the juiciest steaks! This is a place for families and friends to gather, sharing wholesome food to please every palate and create unforgettable memories, especially when choosing to pair your dining experience with Texas Roadhouse’s legendary Margaritas! As you settle into your seats, a basket of freshly baked bread rolls arrives, warm from the oven. These aren’t any ordinary bread rolls though. Freshly baked every five minutes, each bite is a pillowy soft, fluffy delight that hints at the goodness to come, setting the stage for a memorable meal. The bread rolls are always complemented by the freshly whipped, warm cinnamon-honey butter, making for the best flavor duo to kick-off your experience. We also love munching on the complimentary roasted peanuts, a truly Texan touch that adds an extra layer of charm to the start of your meal. The moment you crack open the shells and savor the nutty goodness inside, you know you’re in for a treat. To add a twist to your meal, opt for their Original House Lime, and Mango Strawberry Margaritas. Disclaimer: Don’t fill up on bread rolls and peanuts just yet, as the appetizers at Texas Roadhouse are not to be missed. Feast your eyes on a vast array of delectable appetizers and fresh salads that are perfect for sharing with even the littlest (and often pickiest) eaters in your family. With sharable options aplenty, we love the Fried Pickles, a heaping basket of yummy, battered pickle chips, and their famous Rattlesnake Bites. For our salad choices, we recommend the signature Steakhouse Salad (the best crowd pleaser) as well as the walnut-filled Pear Salad, we can’t get enough of the combo of fresh blueberries and strawberries with this salad’s honey lime vinaigrette. But do save room for the main event here, the steaks! Consistently committing to only serving their customers the best quality meat, all meat offerings at Texas Roadhouse are imported from the US, USDA-certified, and grain finished for 120 days. This produces very high-quality meat, which improves and changes the flavor profile of the meat. The result? Tender, juicy steaks, every single time! So whether you’re a fan of the robust and flavorful Ribeye, prefer a tender and juicy Filet, or
fancy the hearty and marbled New York Strip, Texas Roadhouse has the perfect cut to satisfy your cravings. If you’re a fan of tender, fall-off-the-bone ribs, then rest assured that the ribs are awardwinning for a reason: They are hand-cut at the thickest part of the rib to always present you with the juiciest ribs you will ever have in Kuwait. Fancy a steak and ribs? Then get the best of both worlds
by choosing the Ribeye Steak and Rib Combo plate (It’s the most popular!). What truly sets Texas Roadhouse apart is its dedication to crafting each steak to masterful perfection. Steaks are hand-cut daily, ensuring that every slice is fresh and seasoned with a unique blend of spices to then being fired on the grill to your preferred level of doneness. [Continued...]
141
Whether you choose to sink your teeth into the 6-ounce Sirloin or the whopping 20-ounce Porterhouse T-Bone, you’ll never leave hungry at Texas Roadhouse because each steak comes with two heaping, made-from-scratch complimentary sides of your choice, turning your meal into a complete and satisfying feast that will make your taste buds dance with delight. We’re talking crisp and zesty coleslaw, steak fries that are pure gold, crisp fresh vegetables, and soups like a cup of 142

chili or tortilla that will warm your soul. Our favorite steak pairing, however, has to be their Baked Potatoes. Some like them mashed, but we prefer them whole and baked as they are the true VIPs! The potatoes here are always extra fluffy, especially when paired with gravy and buttered corn. For the little members of your family, Texas Roadhouse also offers a complete Kids Menu that serves littles with classics like Sliders, Mac n Cheese, steak, and everything in between. This way you and your whole family get to experience what Texan hospitality is all about. While many like to claim that food alone makes any given establishment earn its legendary status,
we believe that Texas Roadhouse has a winning, unbeatable combo: Great food, and an amazing staff! From the moment you walk in, you’re not just a guest; you’re a cherished member of the family and they are always ready to celebrate you with their famous line dancing! These spontaneous line dances add an unforgettable, entertaining element to your meal. Every visit to this establishment is filled with warm hospitality, where the good times roll freely and the steaks are always juicy. This season, we’re choosing to indulge in the culinary delights at Amiti Noura’s Sabah Al Salem branch, where the experience of the perfect dining-out escapade meets the homemade authentic Kuwaiti flavors that will tantalize your taste buds. We understand that we have lots of options to dine out in Kuwait, but it’s very hard to find a destination that serves up inimitable vibes and the best flavors of home! There’s an undeniable allure to savoring homemade dishes in the comfort of your family home—fare that even the most esteemed restaurants struggle to replicate. Enter Amiti Noura, where the dining affair mirrors the intimacy of a cherished aunt’s home—the one renowned for her culinary mastery and unwavering hospitality, ensuring every guest leaves with a happy tummy in tow.
144
This is why we can’t get enough of Amiti Noura, especially when you add outdoor dining into the mix, which you can only experience at their incredible Sabah Al Salem location. The appeal of Amiti Noura’s Sabah Al Salem spot lies in its close proximity and effortless accessibility. Visiting your beloved Auntie’s house should be convenient in every sense. And here, amidst the Sabah Al Salem neighborhood, you just need to pull up in your car to experience a diverse array of traditional homecooked meals spanning breakfast, lunch, and
dinner. Each dish, crafted from cherished Kuwaiti family recipes, presents an exclusive blend of distinct flavors and spices, encapsulating the essence of Amiti Noura’s signature experience. The outdoor dining area remains unmatched, as diners will instantly feel like they’ve stepped outdoors into a cozy, family garden. With boxed, lively green plants bordering the covered patio area, and beautiful flowerpots decorating the space. Indoors, a play on the outdoorsy feel takes place, where old-school Kuwaiti brass
lanterns light up the space, and a colorful dance of the bright furniture against the traditional wood details takes center stage. Whether you’re looking for a spot for your family zwara or a quick catch-up with friends, you are promised the right atmosphere for any occasion. Unsure about what time to visit Amiti Noura in Sabah Al Salem? We’re here to state for the record: This is the perfect spot for classic, home-style dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!
Start the day right and with breakfast at Amiti Noura. Make it a morning out with friends and opt for a fun and fulfilling Riyoug Platter. It is a spread fit for royalty that features favorites like hummus, labneh, shakshuka, falafel, cheese platter with fresh vegetables, lamb mince hamssah, jam and honey, and served with freshly baked tanoor bread and regag bread. You can also indulge in a vast array of delightful manakeesh, and to seal the deal make sure you ask for Amiti Noura’s flavorful signature Karak tea.
We know that planning the weekend family lunch or dinner can be a daunting task, it’s just always so hard to meet everyone’s food requests. Some want mashawi, others want rice, then there’s always the hard job of figuring out what the little ones will eat. This is why you should take out the entire family and head to Amiti Noura for all of your favorite local classics. the little ones like Macaroni Bolognese, Mac and Cheese and everyone’s favorite Chicken Nuggets! And since the temperatures are cooling down, an order of heart-warming Lentil soup is also a must, especially when dining outdoors at this stunning location. We also love the always popular Potato and Pumpkin stew, stewed in tomato sauce flavored with tamarind, the perfect dish for cozy comfort this season. No family gathering is made complete without showstopping desserts. The Lgaimat at Amiti Noura reminds us of soulful Ramadan nights with
its strong saffron taste and crunchy texture. There are two ice cream choices on the dessert menu, a sticky Date Cake, as well as two renditions of Mohalabiya and the always-classic Om Ali. As soon as you walk in to any chosen Asha’s destination, you’re instantly surrounded by an ambiance that strikes the perfect balance between tradition and modernity. Our dinner party was pleased with our collective choices, as we truly made sure everyone’s craving for the evening was satisfied. The best part? We get to share all the food! But perhaps a key reason behind our choices was to allow for enough dishes to be enjoyed with fragrant rice like the Biryani, as well as Asha’s famous varieties of Naan Bread. Perfect for dipping into the Dal Makhani, Butter Chicken, and
encasing the delectable Kebab. Nothing speaks more to creating unforgettable food memories than breaking bread with your loved ones, and at Asha’s, every bite of their freshly fired Naan Bread fills the heart with joy. From the classic simplicity of Plain Naan to the indulgent richness of Butter Naan and the aromatic allure of Garlic Naan, Asha’s Naan breads truly complement every dish. Classic black lentils slow cooked with tomatoes, cream and butter; this classic dish is a testament to their dedication to authenticity. Served with freshly baked Naan bread, this dish speaks directly to the soul with every single bite.
Then came the dish we were all waiting for– The Murg Makhani – or more commonly known as, Butter Chicken. There’s a reason why this is a beloved classic worldwide, and is a bestseller at Asha’s. It begins with succulent chicken pieces bathed in a velvety concoction of tomato and cream, accentuated by the aromatic dance of dry fenugreek leaves. Here at Asha’s, it’s more than a meal; it’s an elevation for your senses, a journey to gastronomic heights. Each mouthful, especially when Naan bread is the vessel to capture the delectable sauce, delivers a sense of coziness that is hard to find anywhere else you go seeking delectable Indian food. Whether you prefer the lamb or the chicken, it’s undeniable that the platter is a celebration of India’s rich culinary heritage. Next time you want to visit Asha’s for a special occasion, this is a great dish to order with friends. Soon after, we were greeted with the Lamb Biryani, better known as Kesar Biryani. Beetroot Salad
Penne Pollo Pesto
When bazaar thinks winter what comes to mind is wonderos root vegetables, perfectly roasted peppers and deliciously juicy mushrooms. Add to this, richly flavorsome sauces with beautifully marinated ingredients and you’ve got the perfect recipe for the ideal combination of delectable dishes on the seasonal menu which serves only to tantalize the taste buds. While calories are the key to keeping warm in colder months – think al dente pasta, cheesy pizzas, and rich desserts, Kuwait is still clement enough these days for diners to want to enjoy a brightly colorful and nutritious Beetroot Salad. The roasted beet doesn’t disappoint, sitting on a bed of seasonal greens and quinoa. The sweetness of crumbled goat cheese scattered throughout is paired perfectly with the tang of sun-dried tomatoes, the Beetroot Salad flavor profile is made robust with the house dressing, which also comes with more on the side in a ramekin for those who really want to ramp up the richness. Delivering depth to the salad experience, the entire hearty Beetroot Salad is drizzled with a balsamic reduction. If you really want to enjoy a wintertime indulgence, try stuffed mushrooms hot out of the oven. With a creamy traditional Bolognese sauce and cheddar cheese bubbling away, this appetizer is a lovely precursor to the creamy Penne Pollo Pesto to come next. Essentially, a hearty chicken and mushroom pasta meal, the dish is elevated using quality components; mixed sweet peppers, red onion, and pesto Genovese. This particular type of pesto originates from the city of Genoa, in the region of Liguria in Italy, and is made from a blend of fresh basil leaves, raw garlic, pine nuts, Parmesan, pecorino, olive oil, and salt. When tasted cold, pesto can have a bit of bite from the raw garlic, but in reality, the pesto sauce is gently cooked and the profile rounded off when used and tossed into hot pasta, the secret to a truly authentic pesto experience. A healthy shaving of the nutty-tasting, subtly salty, hard cheese Grana Padano finishes the presentation of the Penne Pollo Pesto. This is a legitimate option if you long to try a delightful alternative to a tomato-sauce-based pasta dish. The thing that makes this particular option über special though, is that it is served in the dish in which it was cooked. It remains piping hot for a really long time, which is hardly needed because it’s so tasty that you’ve got to be quick so your other dining guests don’t nab it all.

Penne Pomodoro
Of course, if you want traditional, there is nothing more satisfying than a classic Italian Pomodoro sauce. Crushed tomatoes - flavor enhanced with the simplest of seasonings; salt, pepper, and olive oil – set the ideal foundation for the Penne Pomodoro. The sauce is folded through the penne pasta and whole basil leaves along with chunks of freshly torn mozzarella cheese are scattered atop this enticing offering. Cleverly, PizzaExpress has taken inspiration from its new pasta dish and created a similar flavor-profiled Neapolitan pizza called Pomodoro. The base is Pomodoro sauce, the cheese paired with it is fresh mozzarella and fresh basil is there too, along with scattered dried herbs. What you will find a tasty addition to the Pomodoro pizza is the topping of cherry tomatoes. Halved so the heat of the oven boils the sugary juices and the skins of the tomatoes shrivel, this uncomplicated topping adds nuance to the Pomodoro. If you fancy something a bit meatier and substantially layered, the Chicken and Avocado pizza is the choice for you. For this option, PizzaExpress has chosen a style of pizza called the Romana, which unsurprisingly, originated in Rome, but is now very popular all over Italy. What makes this dough different is that oil is added, contributing to the crispiness of the base when baked. Multiple toppings make this pizza colorfully nutritious.
