THE INSTA AESTHETIC

A Sustainable Marketing Tool?

The Insta Aesthetic.Go ahead and begin painting a mental picture…do you see women taking mirror selfies in their Rhode Lip Balm Phone Cover whilst holding a Stanley Cup? Perfectly painted nails, golden highlighted hair, and red tinted cheeks? Is it a ‘GRWM’ video of women getting out of bed looking so put together, getting dressed in super stylish gym wear, preparing perfectlylooking breakfast and green juice? Are you recollecting images of plumped lips, sleek hair buns, chunky gold accessories, and iced matcha lattes?

Well, that rhymed…

One might say it is a super clean, modern, female-empowering direction that brands and influencers are taking. I, for one, thought it was inspiring to see such a ‘self-care’ approach through content (with a little bit of effort, and a whole lot of products, looking put-together is easy!)

So, whenever I got lazy, I would turn to instagram for aesthetically pleasing content to keep me on my toes, and to get answers to questions I didn’t know I had. What skin product should I start using, what makeup should I buy, what accessories are in, and what exercises should I try?

And that is the point of marketing… to make you want something you didn’t know you actually wanted! Brands have been marketing their products through influencers, jumping at the opportunity to market retinol, gym shorts, and reformer pilates classes. Many brands gained popularity through this marketing tool, instilling their name and image through instagram, first directly, then indirectly, turning into a non-negotiable for any aesthetic girly. Ever wondered why almost every other woman carries the same Alo Yoga bag? And how many times have you heard the “if you don’t pilates, you ain’t a wifey”? I’m assuming a lot.

Sure, The Insta Aesthetic has motivated proactive behaviors, like spending the day doing self-care rituals, pushing yourself to exercise more, and traveling around the world. Viewers scroll to be inspired, and that’s not at all a bad thing. It is a winwin-win situation…the associated brand benefits, the influencer benefits, and the viewer benefits.

But here comes the question: Is The Insta Aesthetic still working? And if it is, will it last for long? Are viewers still buying into the 10-step skin care night routine? And aren’t viewers actually recognizing that the “kept-together” approach is actually unrealistic, expensive, time consuming, and just unnecessary?

That, my friends, is The Insta Aesthetic.

Though brands and influencers are outside the factor-of-control to this article, viewers, like me, can instigate change. With consistent access to social media comes the great responsibility placed on us, to:

Do your research: Before buying into products, services and procedures, do the research: What ingredients or techniques do they use? Is this actually good for my skin/hair type? What does the brand stand for? What is their funding agenda? Does the brand support the same values I do? Does the brand encourage the ‘buy & dump’ strategy, or will it maintain its usefulness in the long run? Not everything you see on screen is purchasable, especially when they conflict with your needs, desired outcome, and values.

Be aware: Not everything we see is true, and not everything true can be seen. For example, The Insta Aesthetic may encourage the “high maintenance things to do to be low maintenance” agenda; but eyelid tattoos, excessive lip fillers, and Acrylics need to be done mindfully and with precaution. The Insta Aesthetic doesn’t show it, but nail damage from excessive use of Gel Nail Polish is more common than you think. Before buying into it, be aware of the cons, because despite the appeal, things do go wrong no matter how lovely they seem on screen.

Develop self-control: Responsible consumerism is important. No one needs that many water bottles, and you do not need to have plumped lips and no forehead wrinkles to feel perfect. Having it all is a consumerist agenda; not a reality. Certainly, we desire to try pilates, and need to replace our driedout mascara… and that’s not wrong. But to avoid a consumerist approach to life, ask yourself: What is a Need, and what is a Want, and will you regret that Want in the near future?

MOVEWELL RECOVERY: MOVE WELL . RECOVER WELL A

wellness journey with Aseel Dreegia

Stepping into Movewell Recovery feels like entering a sanctuary designed for true wellness. Founded by three women, Aseel Dreegia, Dana Ghareeb, and Dalal Al-Sane, this wellness space in Kuwait is dedicated to helping women recover, recharge, and realign both physically and mentally. Movewell is not a spa nor is it medical, it is a space that focuses on anti-inflammatory treatments such as lymphatic drainage massages, infrared sauna therapy, and compression boot therapy—all aimed at promoting longterm recovery and well-being.

I recently had the chance to experience Movewell Recovery firsthand, and let me tell you, it was the wellness retreat I didn’t know I needed. Walking into the space, I immediately felt at ease. The warm, cozy atmosphere enveloped me, setting the tone for what would be a deeply rejuvenating experience.

I started with a massage—one of the best I’ve had in a long time. The therapist was incredibly attentive, constantly checking in on the pressure and making sure the treatment was tailored to my needs. It wasn’t just a regular lymphatic drainage massage; it felt like a reset for my whole body. Afterward, I was guided to the infrared sauna, a space I didn’t think I could last long in, but somehow, I found myself totally relaxed, relishing the quiet time to be alone with my thoughts. By the end of the session, I felt lighter, both mentally and physically, and completely refreshed.

Curious to learn more about how Movewell Recovery came to be, I sat down with Aseel Dreegia, one of the co-founders, to understand the vision behind this wellness haven. Her journey, along with Dalal and Dana, is a testament to how important wellness is to each of them and how they want to redefine the space in Kuwait.

“Wellness didn’t just happen to me overnight. It was (and still is) a journey,” Aseel shares. After 18 years in the corporate world, Aseel always knew she wanted to do something with

Co-Founders (clockwise from bottom left): Dalal Al-Sane, Aseel Dreegia, Dana Ghareeb

a purpose, something more fulfilling, something that aligned with her lifestyle. A few unsuccessful trials in the world of entrepreneurship taught her valuable lessons, one of which was to really not overcomplicate things: sometimes an idea is there it is just a matter of seeing it for what it is – leading her to her calling: to create Movewell Recovery.

Partnering with Dana and Dalal was in itself the foundation that made the concept come to life. Dana, a renowned nutritionist, works with women across the region (and the world) in helping them achieve their nutrition and health goals. A mother of three, she has had her own experience with inflammation and journey in finding wellness modalities that worked for her and her clients. “I wanted to create a space that was out of a NEED for myself, to share with the community. Through my own personal experiences with the treatments we offer, the creation of the concept just felt right.”

Aseel wanted to offer a space where people could not only recover physically but also find mental balance. “Movewell isn’t a spa,” Aseel explains. “We’re here to offer long-term recovery plans for our clients—both physically and mentally. We are not medical – we compliment physiotherapist clinics, rehabilitation centres, and medical professionals by providing services to clients that are accessible and easy to integrate into their lifestyles. Wellness is no longer emphasizing treatment of disease, its more an emphasis on the prevention of disease.” They knew from the start that their approach had to be different, focusing on sustainable recovery practices rather than quick fixes.

For Dalal, founder of Arc Pilates and Co-founder of Arc Studio – two well established leaders in the movement space in Kuwait, this mission comes from a personal place. “We joined together to create a safe haven where women could heal and feel better about themselves,” she tells me. “After suffering from chronic inflammation due to the fast pace of modern life, I found relief in sports massage and lymphatic drainage. It was this personal experience that inspired us to build Movewell.”

Dana echoes this sentiment, adding that they wanted to create an environment that felt warm and inviting. “We wanted to create a positive association with recovery, as opposed to a sterile recovery environment,” she says. “For me, combining deep tissue and lymphatic massages

Aseel Dreegia, co-founder of Movewell Recovery

with the infrared sauna has been the perfect balance in maintaining my wellness routine. We are also excited to be introducing a few new services in the coming months – all centered around inflammation - which is the leading cause of disease.”

The offerings at Movewell are all about specialized treatments. From lymphatic drainage and infrared sauna therapy to compression boot therapy, everything is designed with the client’s recovery in mind. “We’re not about following trends,” Aseel insists. “If you build a business based on a trend, you will be just that: a trend. Everything we offer is heavily researched, tried, and tested. No frills, no complexities – treatments that are easy to integrate into a person’s routine. ” What makes Movewell truly stand out is the personal touch. It’s clear that each treatment is tailored to the individual, and the therapists are invested in understanding what you need to feel your best. Aseel, Dana, and Dalal have combined their unique strengths to build a business that is all about long-term wellness, and their passion for helping others is palpable.

For Aseel, wellness goes beyond the physical. “My relationship with fitness wasn’t always healthy,” she admits. “But over time, I’ve learned that true wellness is about balance—moving your body in ways that make you feel good, not punishing it. Aesthetics have become secondary – with the primary focus being on movements that are mindful, and wellness practices that will enhance the quality of my movement, my health, and help me recover well to live well.” This philosophy is reflected in everything Movewell Recovery stands for, from the calming atmosphere to the personalized treatments that cater to both the body and mind.

Movewell Recovery is more than just a place to get a massage or relax in a sauna; it’s a space dedicated to enhancing your overall wellbeing. Whether you’re looking to recover from the stressors of daily life or simply seeking a moment of peace, Movewell Recovery has something for everyone.

To experience their holistic approach to wellness for yourself, you can visit Movewell Recovery at their location in Dasman, Kuwait. The complete services and booking are available on www.movewellrecovery.com . Follow their journey on Instagram at @MovewellRecovery. Trust me, your mind and body will thank you.

SOFT SKILLS ARE DEAD

Long live “skills”

Here’s a little thought exercise: Suppose Harvard University, the Carnegie Foundation, and the Stanford Research Center all got together to find out what exactly made a person successful at work. Suppose they discovered that we had two complementary skill sets. One accounted for about 15% of one’s ability to succeed at work, and the other accounted for the remaining 85%. Which skill set would be deemed more important?

It may sound like an obvious question, but it’s not. Because the aforementioned research does exist, we still refer to the less impactful skill set with the attractive name “hard skills.” These include a person’s technical know-how and mastery of the tools and platforms of their trade. The other skill set, which actually matters more, is often called “soft skills”—sometimes somewhat derisively. Walk around tech conventions and you’ll frequently hear praise for someone’s coding skills, but rarely do people mention an employee’s communication abilities or emotional intelligence for teamwork.

And that’s not just a pity; it’s a problem. As long as we refer to the skills that overwhelmingly account for success as “soft,” we’re likely to get them wrong. Let’s finally move past the term “soft skills.” From now on, let’s just call them skills without any qualifiers.

What, then, are the key components to consider in evaluating a winning candidate? Five bits of insight come to mind.

Forget knowledge and look for experience

To understand this key point, consider two hostage negotiators. One is a star graduate from the police academy, a brilliant student who has mastered every manual and simulation. The other is not quite as clever but has 22 years of on-the-job experience. Who would you prefer in a high-stakes, real-life scenario?

The answer is clear. When the pressure is on, and every small decision has vast consequences, you’d want someone who has seen and done it all before, knows what to expect, and can handle the stress. As we’ve seen repeatedly in hiring top team members for complex tech projects, experience is a hard-to-beat asset.

Skip that degree; seek competence

I value education highly, but a college degree, even from a prestigious institution, only reflects mastery of a limited set of hard skills. In college, you’re taught how to do specific things, like coding in a particular language, and are graded on how well you perform them. What about the ability to pivot and change course? This requires adaptability, a bigpicture mindset, and forward-thinking—qualities that aren’t measured by multiple-choice questions or A-F grading systems. As the conversation about integrating these metrics grows, I still see a lack of focus on evaluating qualities like being a good team player or having effective time management skills.

Many managers boast about hiring only college graduates, assuming that candidates without degrees lack skills and aren’t as worthy. This myopic vision is changing. The college-taught skills

matter, but if you’re looking for a star candidate, worry less about that diploma and more about the ability to handle critical work, which often relies on interpersonal skills no university teaches.

Get cozy with key behaviors

The term may sound a bit unclear, but it couldn’t be more important. Why? Consider the difference between hard and soft skills. We have good ways of measuring the former, so why not develop reliable metrics for the latter? We see soft skills as intangible qualities and key behaviors serve as benchmarks to help managers determine competence in skills we used to call soft. Can Sandra, as a project manager, leverage time management skills by creating a welldefined project plan, setting time limits, and establishing clear priorities? Can Harold, as a tech lead, positively impact software development by involving team members collaboratively in the decision-making process? These questions can sometimes be tricky to answer, but codifying and measuring these skills will help all make more informed and beneficial staffing decisions.

All hail logic and reasoning

Someone I know once came back stunned from a job interview. As a highly trained engineer, he expected to discuss his education and experience. Instead, the interviewer asked, “How many quarters would you need to stack to reach the top of the Empire State Building?” My friend was puzzled, wondering how anyone could know without measuring. But the interviewer knew exactly what they were doing.

He aimed to assess a key skill: logical thinking. Instead of a precise answer, he wanted to see a candidate approach the problem like this: “The Empire State Building is about a thousand feet tall. Ten quarters stack to about an inch, so that’s 120 quarters per foot. Therefore, it would take around 120,000 quarters.” The answer may not be correct, but the thought process proves that a person can break free from the rigid confines of a particular discipline and think in broad and flexible terms.

Master the unseen—soft skills can be developed

Often, when discussing soft skills with colleagues, I’ll hear something like, “Well, too bad you can’t teach how to be a great communicator or how to be a good team player.” I’ve some

great news: You can. Sure, some of us may have a natural advantage, but we now have concrete research proving that soft skills can be developed and even mastered.

There is a catch: Unlike hard skills, which engineers often learn quickly and on their own, soft skills are situation-dependent and can’t be mastered through training software or instruction manuals alone. Employers need to prioritize soft skill training, modeling the interactions employees are likely to encounter and guiding them through key moments. We have been doing this at my company, BairesDev by giving employees a platform for them to practice, discuss, and consolidate their abilities in communication, teamwork, critical thinking, and proactivity in different project-based settings. Do that and you’ll see a rapid improvement, to the benefit of everyone involved.

So let’s speak about “soft skills” no more, and instead get busy doubling down on what really makes someone succeed in the increasingly demanding, ever-evolving, and complex workplace reality.

SMASHING THE GLASS CEILING

Just 6% of CEOs worldwide are women

In an era marked by the speed of innovation and transformation, the staggering reality is that progress toward gender parity continues to be slow and uneven around the globe.

Gender parity occurs when people of all gender identities are able to proportionately participate in society—including in our corporate boardrooms. Throughout our careers, we’ve witnessed the dawn of a variety of programs and initiatives aimed at improving gender parity in the business world and have personally benefited from many of them. Yet we are far from the finish line. There is still more work to be done if we are going to eliminate the gender parity gap in our lifetime—a fundamental imperative for a more equitable and sustainable business world and society.

It’s not only the right thing to do but also the right business decision. Research suggests that organizations that are more gender-diverse—from top executives and board members to managers and employees—tend to outperform those that are less so.

Deloitte’s recent Women in the Boardroom report highlights the global state of women in executive positions. Just 6% of CEOs globally are women. About 23.3% of corporate board seats globally are held by women and just 8.4% of the world’s boards are chaired by women.

Inconsistencies in the gender representation of corporate boards can be seen across the world. In the U.S., just 28.1% of women hold board seats, trailing other major economies like France (44%), Norway (43.5%), and Italy (40.4%). Yet the U.S. falls significantly higher than economies such as China (15.1%), India (18.3%), and Japan (12.8%).

On our current trajectory, our research shows that these disparities may not be closed until at least 2038. And at the current slow pace of progress, global gender parity for chairs and CEOs will not be reached before 2073 and 2111, respectively.

The role of leaders

Despite gender equality reforms in many countries and innovative efforts in the private and public sectors, there still remains a critical need to dismantle age-old societal and cultural barriers, to challenge biases, and to forge a new path forward toward a more inclusive, equitable future.

As global leaders, we have both an opportunity and a responsibility to acknowledge these challenges and help pave the road toward tangible change. Our mission is to accelerate the journey toward global gender parity. This includes identifying paths for women to secure and thrive in leadership positions; investing in learning and development opportunities for women to both sponsor and accelerate their advancement; and driving greater

global, cross-sector collaboration aimed at closing the gender parity gap.

Here are three steps leaders can take to help achieve gender parity in corporate leadership.

Take accountability

To take accountability, decision-makers should lead a candid examination of what is needed to promote women into leadership.

Purpose-driven leaders are often focused on a myriad of programs and initiatives aimed at promoting greater diversity throughout their organizations, and specifically within leadership roles. However, it’s critical that the focus continues to be on equitable outcomes versus specific activities to create lasting change and impact.

Improving gender parity throughout an organization starts with an honest assessment of

the current leadership team and the succession pipeline. For instance, leaders should routinely ask questions like:

• How does our leadership team cultivate the right mix of experiences, skills, and backgrounds to address the complexities of the business today and in the future?

• How do we emphasize the right skill sets, leadership, and business acumen in the hiring and succession process?

• How do we ensure our pipelines are advancing women at the same rates as men, and how do we identify whether we are losing women leaders at critical junctures in the pipeline?

If the answers to these questions do not ultimately result in equitable outcomes, leaders need to look more closely at changes to the current processes and programs in place to render

systemic and lasting change. This could include a purposeful succession plan that creates more opportunities for women; active sponsorship by current leaders to advocate on behalf of the best candidates for leadership roles; recruitment strategies focused more on necessary skills rather than previously held job titles, bringing qualified women left out back into the room; and learning and development experiences for women that have the potential to open up the aperture of leadership roles available to them.

Accelerate momentum

Next, leaders should identify opportunities for growth and development in growing areas such as generative AI (GenAI).

With boundless innovation emanating from the technology sector, learning and development opportunities become paramount to remain agile in the marketplace.

This is particularly important for the rapidly emerging field of GenAI as women have historically been underrepresented in the field of technology— and because women are more likely to work jobs that can be replaced by GenAI.

Many business leaders are constrained by talent limitations as they scale their GenAI deployments. According to Deloitte’s recent State of GenAI in the Enterprise report, nearly 4 in 10 (37%) business leaders say their organizations are only slightly or not at all prepared to address talent concerns related to GenAI adoption. But nearly three-quarters plan to adjust their talent strategies in the next two years due to GenAI, with a focus on altering work processes and upskilling/reskilling. This shift presents an exciting opportunity for greater gender parity and inclusivity in the GenAI field.

We must help ensure that women are a part of the GenAI revolution, particularly because research shows that many women are less comfortable working with GenAI than their male counterparts, and less likely to engage in GenAI-related training over the next year. If left unchecked, this disparity could further exacerbate gender inequality. As GenAI transforms jobs and industries, we should intentionally carve out meaningful opportunities for women leaders. A proactive approach will only serve to strengthen the diversity and inclusivity of thought in the GenAI field.

Build coalitions

And lastly, leaders need to come together to address the issue of gender parity head-on. Collaboration across the global ecosystem is

essential to closing the gender parity gap for good.

While the power to close the leadership gender gap predominantly rests with organizations and their leaders, achieving parity demands collaboration that transcends boundaries. The entire private sector, governments and regulatory bodies, investors, local organizations, and society at large can implement frameworks and policies geared toward empowering women in leadership.

At the current pace, global gender parity for chairs and CEOs will not be reached before 2073 and 2111, respectively. These dates, almost 50 and 90 years in the future, highlight the urgency of our task. Without a full-scale global effort, we risk further prolonging this progress. We, as leaders,

bear the responsibility to champion and advocate for a comprehensive, global approach to gender parity that is centered on promoting women into positions of power, shattering persistent barriers, and cultivating a global suite of leaders that mirrors the diversity of the people it serves.

In the pursuit of global gender parity, we’re not merely rectifying the scales of representation— we’re shaping a future where every voice matters, where every individual can lead, and where our collective strength and wisdom truly reflect the diverse world we inhabit.

CHANGE YOUR MINDSET

Can thinking like a freelancer make your day job feel more meaningful?

When it comes to work, compensation, benefits, and job security are essential factors to consider. However, a sense of meaning and purpose may be even more crucial, particularly as we spend one-third of our life at work. Feeling like our work has meaning and is aligned with our personal values leads to a sense of purpose and increased engagement.

Establishing a sense of purpose is a key driver for why some individuals choose to become freelancers. They feel they can wrestle back control over their lives and their agenda when they are independent contractors. But the good news is that this freelancer mindset can teach all workers, self-employed or otherwise, how to create meaning in and at work.

Meaning in our work comes from doing work that is aligned with our interests and values and empowers us with the autonomy and freedom to design how we do our work. When we have control and flexibility over how we generate outputs, we can find our own unique work “flows” and move toward our professional callings.

On the other hand, meaning at work comes from being part of a like-minded community of individuals with psychological safety, intimacy, shared identities, and visionary leadership.

Here are three traits from the freelancer mindset that we can all adopt to make our work feel more meaningful.

Establish purpose and agency Freelancers typically begin a project by aligning with their clients about exactly what they must deliver. They also establish boundaries so that they have freedom of choice to design how they accomplish these goals. In this kind of relationship, employers hire freelancers for their specific skills and experiences and thus trust them to make decisions about how to deliver the best results.

This kind of clear communication and trust is also possible for the rest of the workforce. Together, leaders and workers can adopt this approach of transparency and autonomy. Teams can agree on the purpose and goals they want to achieve for the organization, along with timescales and workflows that can be cascaded down through different levels within the business to the relevant teams and departments. Ultimately, everyone can work out how to reach their personal objectives and ensure they are aligned with the organization’s broader common purpose—and ask for guidance and help as they go.

This way of working ensures a united direction for the team, but gives individuals a sense of freedom and responsibility. It enables a sense of agency, allowing workers to decide our pace, methods, and timing to meet deadlines and budgets. It’s this ability to have freedom of choice on the specifics of how to do our work that, together

with our operating in our area of specialism or mastery, brings meaning in our work.

Many of us strongly identify with our work. In fact, according to a survey by McKinsey, 70% of employees say their personal sense of purpose is defined by their work.

If our work is aligned with our personal values, it is more likely to contribute to our identity and be meaningful to us. This becomes even more powerful if we work in organizations and with others who share our identities.

Freelancers often deliberately seek out working relationships with firms with whom they have common, or similar, identities. An example of this would be a climate-conscious fractional CFO who would choose to work with an organization that has the social aim of eradicating single-use plastic in drinking bottles. This shared identity binds the freelancer to the business, others who work there, and their overriding purpose.

A shared identity, such as being climate conscious, can apply to full-time workers and their teams as well. The key is for individuals to initiate dialogue with their colleagues about their values, roles, skills, and outputs to understand how these align and contribute to the group’s objectives and, ultimately, to the overarching goal of the business.

Teams can take a minute to ask: What is it that joins us as colleagues together? Defining, articulating, and sharing identities increases intimacy between team members, which can unblock misunderstandings and enable colleagues to see how their contributions impact their coworkers— which ultimately gives workers a greater sense of meaning.

Build a sense of belonging

When workers feel like they belong, they are more likely to understand how meaningful their contributions are. The more our work gives us these feelings of belonging, the more meaningful it will be. Freelancers take time to deliberately identify the professional communities they want to be part of, and it should be no different for those with full-time jobs. Being part of an organization with teams and groups with common identities and interests contributes to our feelings of belonging. This helps workers feel supported when they have difficulties and to feel safe to speak up and challenge appropriately without fear of negative consequences—which leads to psychological safety.

If connecting with our immediate team proves difficult, finding like-minded individuals in other areas of the organization can also be valuable. Hybrid working has made networking feel less organic for some, but intentionally seeking and investing in these relationships is more important than ever to avoid feelings of isolation and build your home.

Thinking like a freelancer can help us clearly establish what needs to be done and what our purpose is, give us greater agency, build collective identities, and develop a sense of belonging. Freelancers consciously prioritize meaning in and at work and design their work lives accordingly— but that doesn’t exclude the rest of us from doing so, too.

THE MAN AND MIND THAT IS MANSOURI.

Islam Mansouri chats to bazaar about his quirkily eccentric sartorialism

Islam Mansouri smashes society’s anachronistic imagery of traditional, masculine style and shares his vision through effortless selfexpression, showcasing the most authentic version of himself.

In 2023 Islam Mansouri went Tik Tok viral with his version of the “public runway” trend, garnering millions of views which is nothing short of remarkable for a male fashion content creator in Kuwait. It prompted fans later to label him as the “Catwalker”. Mansouri took an idea that sprung forth playfully amongst his posse, and acted on it. He turned busy public side streets into his own high-fashion runways in Mubarkiya, Kuwait City, on the iconic Hamra in Beirut and all over the streets of Riyadh in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, showcasing his style with a show-stopping “proper model walk” halting people in their tracks and delightfully entertaining and confusing passersby. Businesses and fashion labels scrambled to collaborate with the outrageous fashion icon, riding the wave of public catwalking to showcase their new collections or partner with Islam to produce edgy pieces, shattering the perceived image of regionally monotonous menswear.

Islam Mansouri’s first foray into fashion as a model garnered positive attention which opened the doors to more opportunities for the eccentric and unattainably sophisticated Islam. Other than upscale opportunities with global brands, stumbling upon modeling helped him find himself and return to his truest version, his passionate and creative self. From discovering his discerning eye on artistic palettes of life and the hidden beauty of contrasts and eccentric meanings, to unveiling a strong desire to change the ultimate narrative in male fashion. Islam Mansouri embodies the rare talent to shift traditional fashion paradigms; he is here to stay and push forward new definitions, extend traditional limits and draw up bold new territories in menswear in the region.

Islam’s daily style features a fundamental key; his unorthodox approach to artful accessorizing. His outfits shared on his social media platforms range from simple to more sophisticated and edgy, eclectic looks depending on his mood and/or needs for the day e.g. a shoot or a fashion event, peer networking or formal meetings. “I vet my entire wardrobe in my head when I wake up, it may sound hectic but it’s a decision and a daily passion of mine to bring out my personal style and identity to every new day” Islam shares with bazaar.

Islam’s inspirations draw on opposing forces in expression. Think of a “Mad Max” effect all while achieving some sort of harmonious balance of the model in the clothes with a storyline that blends different time periods, modern and vintage elements in one picture. Islam is inspired by revolutionary fashion figures that transcend limitations one of which is international role model, the late legend, Virgil Abloh, founder of Milan luxury streetwear label Off-White, a brand which in particular Kuwait’s male youth love, connect and identify with heavily. A term Islam uses to describe his understanding for Abloh’s brand is “quiet attention”, a hard to achieve balance between style and subtlety. He focuses on how Virgil’s style is distinct from mainstream streetwear with silhouettes that speak of simplicity yet achieving permanent attention that loud pieces

would garner for otherwise fleeting moments.

Being a non-conformist by and large, a second muse is his love for the juxtaposition of opposites in expression, perfectly illustrated by Alessandro Michele the ex-creative director of Gucci. Islam never shies away from working with Gucci as a fashion house and builds on their aesthetics for his shoots’ concepts. Since, as a younger model starting out, Islam had a strong penchant for the Italian fashion house, it doesn’t come as a surprise that his inspiration draws from the ex-Gucci designer who as creative director gave a new face to the heritage brand; a match for his eccentric taste which involves many rings stacked up in multiple ways and a loud love for colorful mismatched prints. Islam in his own personality relates to Michele; a revolutionary who expresses chaos and portrays it in his international designs with intentionally misaligned design elements; now working so well for the Valentino brand. “Alessandro’s portrayal of opposites of contemporary progressiveness with a renaissancelike human flair is what I relate to well and try to bring forward in my own way to my concepts with my “Gucci” shoots, Gucci brand events, and others.” Islam shares exclusively with bazaar.

Take Mansouri’s Instagram - where Islam’s depth of identity can be seen through the complexity of his shoots which show his uniquely individual way of storytelling. His feed is a judgment-free space showcasing a burst of incomprehensible moods and shoots conceptualized by the young model with the collaboration of illustrious brands. The shoots always take form in a series or diptych, fashioned as “stills” from the movie of life in the young model’s head. The “Islam x Gucci” shoot, one of frequent store partnerships to fulfil the model’s visions for instance, was a true-to-form example of eclectic meanings and contrasting concepts in fashion where both the tone and direction were set by him. Donned in a formal, limegreen suit, with a blonde-tipped hairdo, multiple colorful rings and shot in a seemingly abandoned 50s gas station, “The Last Exit” was shot just on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi. Contradicting all logic for the location, the image came to be a creative synergy of vintage classy notes clashing with a not-so-posh urban stop. “By composing my ideas on differing depths, I invite the reader to draw their own visual interpretation and meaning through the concepts I design.”

A second partnership with Gucci stores conceptualized by the burgeoning Kuwait based fashion icon is heavy in contrasts. It showcases pieces from the Gucci prêt-à-porter collection and revives the 70/80s feel through the juxtaposition of the 70s rock style set in modern times and being worn by a millennial model, Islam Mansouri. “The Scene” was shot in an old repurposed small studio in Hawally from the 1960s in which local television programs on KTV 2 and KTV 3 were shot. The styling by Mansouri involved colorful tight-fitting Gucci leggings tucked into Guccisima monogrammed socks, combined with a formal, double-breasted Gucci blazer to fit the total vintage look of the shoot. Yet another strong affinity of the model is his love for the French label Maison Margiela, a label that in his mind plays with anonymity – MM6 is identifiable only by four diagonal stitches - and a chaotic balance of airy cuts, volume and avantgarde fabrics. In his iconic personal shoot that he names “Stitching Up The Chaos” he uses pieces from Maison Margiela and adds his personal understanding of the brand identity and aesthetic by cutting up a long blazer to the waistline, stitching a layer of lace to oversized flared pants and adding a face veil, something so iconic of the brand on runways where models’ faces are usually hidden to direct attention to the clothes and the design.

Backed by his vision of a future, free of judgment of fashion choices for menswear and embracing one’s individuality, Islam Mansouri founded his budding baby business, a creative agency @agencycocoon; the name represents metamorphosis or the becoming of something. A mastermind of innovative concepts, Islam works creatively with clients to market a mix of businesses and services and integrate it with fashion. By understanding the brand identity, he helps direct current clients to integrate their brand with fashion and has set his ambition to attract more fashion brands as part of his diverse clientele too.

Islam recognizes the impact he can achieve with his approach to self-expression through his fashion choices. Through @agencycocoon, he is committed to breaking traditional boundaries and pushing to the forefront embracing one’s individuality. He encourages emerging designers and models to incorporate creative expression in their designs and in their respective styles. Either through his agency or his social media platforms Islam’s legacy is to consistently bring about a share of voice for novel forms of self-expression in the region and bring about a divergence of crosscultural conversations that together can shed a beautiful new light of authenticity on our beautiful complex array of talents here.

THE WORKPLACE CAN HELP CURB THE LONELINESS EPIDEMIC

Here’s how

In a 2023 report, the U.S Surgeon General Vivek Murthy made the following statement: “Loneliness and isolation represent profound threats to our health and well-being.” This is a succinct summary of the loneliness epidemic currently plaguing our society—an epidemic that seems to be worsening based on the latest available data.

For me, the workplace—whether the U.S. Navy or corporate—has always been a source of community and structure. Was it perfect? No. Was it a family? No. But I felt engaged and part of a team doing important work. As colleagues, we also collectively shared the highs and lows of our professional lives.

According to a new Gallup mental health study, one in five workers experience feelings of loneliness, and a recent Cigna poll found that the number of U.S. adults who call themselves lonely has climbed to 58% from 46% in 2018.

The average person spends approximately onethird of their life at work, so it’s easy to view the workplace as a catalyst for these feelings of isolation. But what if instead, the workplace can be part of the solution?

Organizations have the power to create relationships, restore trust, and instill a sense of safety and decency that many workers feel has diminished in recent years. But to do that, they need to start fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment, starting at the top.

How can business leaders make meaningful progress in combating the loneliness epidemic and workplace mental health crisis?

1. Establish a people-first leadership mentality Compassion is a powerful management tool. Approximately 43% of workers worry that disclosing mental health issues will have a negative impact on their employment and career advancement, according to a 2023 survey by the American Psychological Association. These fears prevent them from seeking help that would allow them to bring their best selves to work.

Three years ago, my company launched a mental health awareness campaign called “How Are You, Really?” designed to encourage leaders to pay attention to the emotional well-being of their team members and encourage colleagues to check in on one another in a meaningful way. The program has resulted in companywide conversations on topics such as suicide, depression, and anxiety and thousands of employees accessing counseling and other mental health resources.

Establishing programs like this sets a standard for leadership and promotes a culture where managers put people first. It also normalizes open discussion of mental health in the workplace and encourages employees to prioritize their mental health without fear of negative repercussions.

And for employers, offering this support does

not come at the expense of performance. It has been my experience that when managers lead with compassion and ensure that their employees feel seen and supported, high performance follows.

2. Build opportunities for meaningful connection Employee loneliness and the workplace mental health crisis isn’t a new issue. It has, however, been magnified by the shift to remote work. More than 40% of fully remote workers polled in a survey of working parents by Bright Horizons said they go days without leaving their home. Employees working from home may also be struggling to maintain work-life boundaries and feelings of disconnection from their colleagues.

One way to tackle this is by establishing communities where colleagues can collaborate, share ideas, crowdsource solutions to challenges, and celebrate wins or personal achievements. When we foster opportunities for connection and provide welcoming and inclusive spaces, we help employees bring their best selves to work. This could involve forming groups for young professionals to engage in conversations on challenging work situations, or establishing a community for veterans transitioning from service to the private sector to share and find support for the unique challenges of that phase of life.

Interactions not related to work tasks can also play a critical role by strengthening team bonds and offering opportunities for collaboration. This can take place through virtual coffee meetups, employee resource groups, or technical communities. And for someone who is struggling with intense feelings of isolation, a company culture that prioritizes meaningful connections can have a significant impact.

3. Offer accessible mental health benefits

There are many barriers that prevent people from seeking out professional counseling. The workplace shouldn’t be one of them. Improving access to care, whether through a variety of wellbeing offerings, medical benefits, or mental health awareness sessions designed to normalize mental health care is one way that companies can support employees.

Providing these resources is essential, but it needs to be alongside a company culture that eliminates the stigma around utilizing them. Recent studies have shown that normalizing the use of mental health support services encourages their use and allows these benefits to have a much more powerful impact.

Leaders also need to listen to employees and think creatively about nontraditional mental health programs that support employee well-being and alleviate the workplace mental health crisis. These include support resources for employees in caregiver roles or for parents whose children are struggling with mental health challenges. Support for people in these circumstances can significantly alleviate the emotional and logistical burdens that often exacerbate feelings of isolation.

As company leaders navigate the evolving landscape of work, taking a sustained and open approach to combating loneliness is imperative. In an increasingly remote and digital workplace, we must maintain the human connections that contribute to a healthier, happier, and more productive workforce.

IKEA® GETS DOWN TO BUSINESS

“Whatever your project, we’ve got you covered!” Say hello to the first IKEA dedicated to business in Kuwait. Marino Maganto, CEO for IKEA Kuwait, Jordan, and Morocco reveals behind-the-scenes insights on Kuwait’s burgeoning business space.

With the opening of the first IKEA showroom dedicated to business in Shuwaikh, the leading brand in life at home is set to propel entrepreneurship forward. This distinct location serves as a new meeting point for business customers, located where the first IKEA was established in 1984. It pays homage to the IKEA roots in Kuwait, honoring the company’s foundational values while embracing a forward-thinking vision to shape a stronger and more innovative future.

IKEA for Business offers end-to-end solutions to the different and unique needs of all sectors, including residential, hospitality, retail, education, services, health and beauty, and many more. The showroom successfully communicates the ethos behind IKEA for Business services. From a fullyfledged salon, cafe, bespoke hotel rooms, and design spaces to an array of office set-ups, the showroom speaks to Kuwait’s business community. It is a testament to the country’s entrepreneurial spirit.

Marino Maganto, CEO for IKEA Kuwait, Jordan, and Morocco, said, “Last year, about 8,000 new companies were registered in Kuwait. Small and medium businesses account for 90% of all the businesses in the country. In 2013, small enterprises accounted for a turnover of 10 billion USD, and the amount last year was 20 billion USD. And I think that sounds convincing enough for everybody to want to focus on businesses, right?”

So let’s get down to IKEA for Business in Shuwaikh. “While IKEA is a well-known brand to create a better home, however, not everyone knows that at IKEA we have a division that caters to all business needs, from A to Z.” said Maganto, “Our new IKEA for Business showroom not only stands for our commitment to inspiration but also for our dedication to supporting businesses in Kuwait. Whether you have an existing business that you

want to renovate, or you are about to start a new project, whatever the size of your business or the sector you are in; the IKEA you love for your home, is here to help your dream business come true.”

We asked Maganto about how the showroom could serve the typical local entrepreneur, and he offered the location as a one-stop shop. “We’ve been thinking about this space for a while now. We know that the entrepreneurs of today are extremely busy, and this space has combined all of our innovative IKEA solutions for business under one roof. Not many people associate us with offering business solutions, but this is a natural part of our operation, and this business showroom offers entrepreneurs this statement. We created a new concept on how our team interacts with customers by introducing a dedicated Account Manager to help you with whatever you need to get your business ready.”

“We can help you help your clients,” he said, “We can help you find that electrician, contractor. We are currently in the process of closing deals with the biggest construction companies in the country because we understand that the entrepreneur wants a hassle-free journey. They are not interested in the details, they are interested in having a plan, a timeline, and a budget.” This is what entrepreneurs will experience with IKEA for Business Planning Services, a team of experts who will guide you from the moment you decide to turn your business dream into a reality.

The IKEA for Business showroom is not only a huge milestone for IKEA Kuwait, but it is also one to be celebrated on an international level. “It’s never been done before at this scale IKEAwide. A typical business hub will always feature the expected furniture, chairs, desks, lights, and here, these elements are not even twenty percent of how we can power businesses in Kuwait.”

A walk-through of the showroom is like walking through a vibrant business hub in a typical city. True IKEA fans will appreciate how IKEA storage solutions like PAX or BESTA can be utilized in a quaint flower shop, a swanky hotel room, and a calm beauty salon. First stop by the serene Salon & Spa for a spot of indulgence, or pass by the Nuwair florist shop and get ready to get inspired for your next special event.

You can even take a break at the café, named Café Sicilia. It is fully equipped with the best IKEA solutions, from the coffee cups, and candles, to the indoor and outdoor furniture. This line-up of fully

functional business spaces greet passers-by, and the offices ‘down the road’ are fully connected, the desks are movable, and everything simply works

CEOs are given special attention with bespoke spaces and meeting rooms and there’s even a complete Kindergarten that will transform how we create educational spaces for our little ones.

All of these spaces have been designed utilizing innovative solutions from IKEA, typically seen in the home, but transformed for a business environment.

As for bringing it all together just in time to launch your grand business idea, the IKEA for Business team of experts will help with everything else, from design and planning to creating visual mood boards for your business to execution, delivery, and installation.

“Small or big, new or well-established, whatever your project, we’ve got you covered! Any idea you have in mind, we are with you from the beginning to the end: from imagining your space, to planning, designing and selecting your preferred furnishing solutions. We make it all a reality in an easy and convenient way, so you can focus on what is important, making your business a success story,” said Maganto.

Perhaps what is most enticing is how all these services and offerings are presented in one vibrant, exhilarating space. IKEA caters to both businesses and individuals, ensuring that whether you’re a business owner or a homeowner, you have access to the same comprehensive planning services. These services, available at every IKEA customer meeting point, are now amplified at a much deeper level, empowering you to realize your every business and personal dream. From designing functional workspaces for your company to creating the home of your dreams, IKEA is committed to supporting your journey every step of the way.

To close our conversation, Maganto concluded, “Furnishing your themed hotel spa, finishing the renovation of your office, launching your new apartment building, refreshing your café or salon during a special season, planning school projects for the new year, or furnishing your dream home or your brand-new chalet for your family gathering, has never been easier. IKEA for Business has it all, under one roof, offered from businesspeople to businesspeople! Let’s talk Business!”

Warm water in the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico can fuel powerful hurricanes, but how destructive a storm becomes isn’t just about the climate and weather—it also depends on the people and property in harm’s way.

In many coastal cities, fast population growth has left more people living in areas at high risk of flooding.

I am a geographer who studies the human dimensions of climate change and natural disasters. My research and mapping with colleagues shows that socially vulnerable communities—those least able to prepare for disasters or recover afterward— tend to be concentrated in areas that are more susceptible to flooding, particularly on the Gulf Coast.

Larger, vulnerable populations

Nearly 40% of the U.S. population lives in a coastal county today. Many of these areas are increasingly exposed to disasters, including hurricanes and hightide flooding that has been worsened by sea level rise.

The Gulf of Mexico region, in particular, is prone to climate change-induced concurrent disasters—when multiple disasters strike at once. For example, when Hurricane Beryl hit Texas in July 2024, 3 million homes and businesses lost power for several days in the middle of searing summer heat—in addition to dealing with heavy rain and flooding.

To further complicate matters, more than onefifth of the population in Harris County, home to Houston, is considered socially vulnerable, meaning people who are likely more susceptible to harm from extreme weather.

New Orleans, another city with high social vulnerability, was under a hurricane watch and expecting power outages as Hurricane Francine headed for landfall in September 2024.

Socially vulnerable populations in the U.S. include many older adults, people with disabilities, people living in poverty, mobile-home dwellers, and other marginalized groups. Often, they don’t have the resources or the physical ability to prepare for a storm, or the means to rebuild afterward.

Several cities along the Gulf Coast—including Houston; New Orleans; Mobile, Alabama; and Tampa, Florida—have large socially vulnerable populations that are at high risk from hurricane damage. In many of these cities, patterns of land development and political decisions have elevated the potential for harm.

Unbridled urban sprawl

Houston offers a case study in the challenges created by unbridled urban sprawl in coastal cities.

Harris County grew by one-third from 2000 to 2023, adding 1.3 million residents to become

the third-most-populous county in the U.S. The economic boom accompanying that population growth brought jobs to the county, but not all of those jobs pay well. Harris County’s poverty rate is 16.5%, well above the national average of 11.5%.

In the wake of Hurricane Harvey’s widespread flood damage in 2017, a heated debate ensued. Many observers pointed out a thorny reality: Houston was built on a swamp. The laissez-faire mentality typical of Texas politics that prioritizes not intervening in growth has further contributed to unbridled urban sprawl, turning wetland to concrete land. With wetlands simply paved over, heavy rain couldn’t be easily absorbed, making new neighborhoods extremely vulnerable to flooding.

Preliminary research by my research group, which focuses on risk decision-making finds that, among all land use and land cover types in Harris County, developed land has increased fastest, rising from 35% of the county’s land in 2000 to 50% in 2020.

Harvey was a vivid example of the importance of planning for storm water in urban development. Yet, as the storm’s devastation fades in the collective memory, more people are moving to Houston.

With such high concentrations of people and infrastructure in the coastal region, more people are in harm’s way. More people means that when

a disaster strikes, the impact can be much larger than it was just a few decades ago.

Preparing for future disasters

Coastal communities can’t afford to wait for a disaster’s wake-up call to invest in protecting themselves. To prepare for future disasters, I believe they need to rethink urban development with climate change in mind.

Increasing resilience includes improving flood control infrastructure and enhancing emergency response capabilities with worsening storms in mind. It also involves adopting zoning rules that limit building in flood-prone areas. And it may even involve managed retreat—using buyouts to move some communities to safer ground.

Public education campaigns are also important to raise awareness of disaster risks. Accurate flood risk maps, for example, can motivate people to buy insurance, choose their locations more carefully, and prepare their homes for the local risks. Successful awareness campaigns often partner with grassroots organizations to extend community networks and reach their vulnerable populations to help them prepare.

PARANOIA CAN BE GOOD

Financial paranoia is your best protection against bogus financial influencers on TikTok

Financial influencers on TikTok and other social media platforms claim to have the secrets that “they” (professional money advisors) don’t want you to know. These videos go viral because we all want to believe that The Man is keeping financial secrets from us little people.

Unfortunately, the most popular FinTok videos typically offer terrible advice, like how to get “free” cash from a Chase ATM (by committing check fraud), how to borrow $150,000 to buy an AirBnB (by maxing out credit cards), or how to hire your minor children and deduct their salaries to save on taxes (by committing tax fraud).

It’s easy to look down on anyone who is taken in by some of the more transparently bad TikTok advice. But before you judge, remember that every single one of us may be susceptible to financial misinformation. For proof, look no further than the long list of highly intelligent heavy hitters who were scammed by Bernie Madoff.

So how do we protect ourselves from the dubious financial influencers, scams, and lies that sound remarkably similar to reasonable advice? By embracing our financial paranoia.

What is financial paranoia?

I learned to be financially paranoid from my dear old dad, since he was both an overprotective father and a financial planner. Dad’s “stranger danger” lessons came with a heaping side of money safety—like teaching me to never give money to anyone going door-to-door. (“They know where you live, Emily!”)

From Dad, I learned to question ulterior motives, ignore unsolicited advice, and reject anything that sounds too good to be true. Ultimately, financial paranoia is the assumption that everyone is out to get your money, and it asks you to embrace these three facts:

No one cares about my money as much as I do . . .

Unless they’re trying to make my money their money . . .

And they won’t have to deal with the consequences of my financial mistakes.

Why paranoia is good

The word “paranoid” has some deeply negative connotations–as do “cheap,” “stubborn,” and “uses beer instead of milk on Lucky Charms.”

But even though we think of paranoia as the leading cause of tinfoil headgear, financial paranoia is not a pathology. Instead, it’s a prudent and healthy response to an outside threat. After all, it’s not paranoia if they really are out to get you. And financial advice, services, products, institutions, and experts have made it clear that they are out to get your money. (To be charitable, not all of them are mustache-twirling villains. Some financial influencers just don’t know what they’re doing.)

Considering the epic financial scams, failures, and stupidity revealed in any passing glance at the news, adopting a sense of hypervigilance around your money is reasonable. Treating financial opportunities as a bad idea until proven otherwise will protect you and your money.

The one downside of financial paranoia is potentially missing out on good opportunities. But even this drawback isn’t so serious, since legitimate opportunities will still be there in the future. After all, buying Apple in 1990, 2000, or 2010 would have been just as savvy as purchasing it when it went public in 1980.

How to be paranoid

If you weren’t raised by an overprotective dad in the financial industry, financial paranoia probably isn’t second nature to you. But there are only two things you need to do to cultivate it:

1. Pause

A lot of scams, high-pressure sales, and junk financial advice rely on time pressure to force you to act. But unlike emergency medicine, the financial world has very few time-sensitive issues. You can almost always wait 24 hours while you think about a financial opportunity. (Even Uncle Sam lets you get an extension on filing your taxes!)

This is why you should commit to waiting before acting. If the time pressure increases when you say “maybe tomorrow,” you’ll know passing on the opportunity is a good decision.

2. Ask questions

Asking questions is one of the best ways to uncover a scam, since con artists hate having to explain themselves. But questions are also a valuable tool when you are gleaning information from social media financial influencers. Asking yourself the following types of questions can help you recognize when something is too good to be true:

• If this is true, why isn’t everyone doing it?

• What could go wrong with this?

• Do I understand how this works?

• What’s in it for them?

• Why are they giving advice to me?

It’s okay to be overprotective of your money

Paranoia is the opposite of trust, which is why it gets such a bad rap. But the financial world continually proves itself to be untrustworthy, and the consequences of misplaced financial trust can be disastrous. That’s why healthy skepticism is not just reasonable, but advisable.

Embracing that skepticism means you accept the truth about financial misinformation and acknowledge that no one will care about your money more than you do. You also commit to pausing and asking questions before taking any financial action.

If doing all this makes you sound paranoid, it’s worth it to know your finances are secure. And anyway—those tinfoil hats are kind of cute.

MOVING FORWARD

5 tactics for transforming failure into success

When you were a teenager, did you ever do anything you later regretted?  Perhaps it was something so outrageous you later couldn’t begin to explain your own behavior. Or maybe it was something so embarrassing you still don’t want anyone else to know it ever happened.

If you’re a human being, the answer is undoubtedly, yes.

And if you found yourself in a similar situation now, is there any chance you would make the same mistake again? If you’re reading this, I’m going to guess the answer is a resounding, no.

Finally, if someone discovered that boneheaded act from your past, would you not argue with absolute conviction that you have disavowed that behavior and that you are not the same person who committed that ill-advised act? Of course, you would. The distance between sophomoric insensitivity and heightened social awareness as an adult indicates that you understood this week’s addition to the Ethical Lexicon:

Penitence (pen·i·tence/ pen-i-tuhns) noun

Sincere remorse for past sins or offenses, thoughts, or speech; taking responsibility for wrongdoing

The word traces back to the Old French peine and Latin poena, each meaning penalty or punishment. Both are also roots of the word pain. The word remorse itself stems from the Latin remorsus, meaning torment; and remordere, meaning bite back.

Genuine regret extends far beyond outward expressions of apology. It manifests as the painful bite of conscience that keeps us up at night wondering, “How could I do that?” or

“What was I thinking?” It challenges us to make atonement and commit ourselves to doing better. Indeed, penitence is the root of penitentiary, what we aspirationally (but too often inaccurately) call a correctional institution.

Sadly, much of this perspective has been lost, and social media is largely to blame. Our ability to spout off with relative anonymity and little accountability has contributed to a profoundly dysfunctional culture that promotes the most horrific behavior, while—simultaneously, yet paradoxically—encouraging us to militate against transgressions that are frequently less offensive and would be better off left in the past.

Needless to say, we must not tolerate racist, cruel, or uncivil speech or conduct, all the more so from the unrepentant. But if we don’t allow the truly penitent to apologize, make amends, and move forward, then we disincentivize genuine repentance and, by doing so, further encourage bad behavior. After all, if I won’t be allowed rehabilitation from my past mistakes, what motivation do I have to try to make amends and do better in the future?

Some apologies are indeed insincere, nothing more than pro forma attempts to sweep bad behavior under the rug. Genuine, heartfelt expressions of contrition manifest as a desire to learn from past errors and do better moving ahead. Time generally reveals which are which. Even the

best fakers eventually expose themselves by reverting to irresponsible behavior.

It’s not difficult to promote a spirit of penitence. Leaders simply need to adopt a conciliatory style when bringing mistakes to light. This is done by following a few simple guidelines:

• Have conversations in private that point out missteps

• Acknowledge past contributions first when giving a rebuke

• Express confidence in the potential to improve

• Offer guidance and support

• Reiterate that an organization is a team and that every member makes a difference

In an environment where employees fear disproportionate retribution for even the smallest errors, they will keep their heads down, avoid taking chances, and never, ever show initiative. But when leaders demonstrate trust in their people to own up to their mistakes, then those people will come to trust their leaders and accept accountability. The resulting culture will be one in which growth happens naturally and organically, one in which small failures are nothing more than rungs on the ladder of success.

PERIMENOPAUSE, MENOPAUSE AND … WEIGHTLIFTING?

Expert explains value for bone health

Menopause affects women all the way to their bones, and that is why building skeletal health is especially important during perimenopause and after menopause, says May Al-Araji, MBChB, a women’s health and family medicine expert at Mayo Clinic Healthcare in London. This is a good time to add strength-training activities such as weightlifting to your exercise routine, Dr. Al-Araji says.

“Menopause has a multisystem effect. It can affect you literally from top to bottom, including your skin, hair, brain, central nervous system, heart, organs and skeletal system,” she explains.

Putting stress on bones during perimenopause and after menopause can increase bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

“Weight-resistance exercises are really key for bone health,” Dr. Al-Araji says.

But that doesn’t mean that you must become a bodybuilder.

“It’s all about resistance,” Dr. Al-Araji explains. “You build it up gradually.”

For example, rather than starting out with barbells or dumbbells, try exercising with resistance bands, also called resistance-tubing. You can also use your body’s weight to create resistance while exercising. For a variety of exercises, ranging from lunges using the body as resistance to resistance-band workouts to exercises with free weights and weight machines, find Mayo Clinic strength-training videos here.

Women approaching or passing menopause can also build bone health by not smoking and by adopting a healthy diet, including foods high in vitamin D such as fortified milk, cereal and fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel and sardines, and high in calcium, including dairy products, almonds, broccoli, kale, salmon, sardines and soy products. If you are not getting enough vitamin D from your diet, talk with your healthcare team about supplements, Dr. Al-Araji advises.

It’s also important to achieve and maintain a healthy weight, with one important caveat, Dr. Al-Araji says: “Try to avoid rapid weight loss. The bones don’t like it. Our bones like very gradual weight loss, built over time.”

If you are trying to lose weight rapidly, it’s important to work with your healthcare team on a plan to minimize bone loss, she adds.

Hormone replacement therapy and other medications may be considered when osteoporosis is diagnosed in women who are experiencing perimenopause or menopause, Dr. Al-Araji says.

When should a woman approaching perimenopause or in her postmenopausal years be concerned that she might be having bone problems? There are several signs that should prompt a visit to your healthcare team, Dr. Al-Araji says:

• If you are experiencing burning pains in your bones.

• If your bones ache.

• If you break a bone from a simple fall. This is known as a fragility fracture. For example, if you fall from your own height (such as a fall from slipping or tripping) and break a bone.

• If you are on medications that suppress your immune system, known as immunosuppressants.

• If you are taking corticosteroids.

• If you have a family history of osteoporosis.

• If you have an autoimmune disease such as rheumatoid arthritis.

• If you had an X-ray and it showed bone thinning,

known as osteopenia.

In general, though, concern about bone health shouldn’t prompt women to avoid exercise for fear of damaging their bones, Dr. Al-Araji says.

“As long as you’re doing something that you are comfortable with, then I would encourage any form of exercise, even as simple as walking,” she says. “Brisk walking is ideal. Just get your heart pumping a bit more than usual for you and get a bit of sweaty skin. That is the ideal exercise really, and the general advice is to walk 30 minutes at least five times a week, if possible.”

IT’S NOT A KATSU CRAZE, IT’S MEME’S CURRY

How Meme’s Curry CEO Shehab Al Attar’s passion for Japanese curry resulted in one of Kuwait’s most beloved dining establishments

Meme’s Curry hits different. Sure, there may be various renditions of other concepts of the now-famous Japanese curry sauce since the brand’s inception as a home business in 2013. The restaurant’s early success birthed a trend in Kuwait, yet still, no one has been able to deliver the same quality, flavor, or experience one gets when visiting any of Meme’s Curry dine-in destinations in Salmiya, The Avenues, or Abu Al Hasaniya. Meme’s Curry is simply inimitable.

This is a true testament to CEO Shehab Al Attar’s passion, dedication, and perseverance to create a dining space that’s fun to visit with your nearest and dearest, but more importantly, will always deliver on bags of flavor with every moreish bite of their famous Japanese curry sauce. It’s also important to remember that Meme’s Curry did it first. Shehab laughingly told us, “I don’t follow trends, I like to create them.”

He’s always fully committed to offering Meme’s Curry customers a real experience. Shehab is all for technology, utilizing delivery to expand the business. Still, printed menus, and having a deeper connection with staff are paramount to creating a memorable experience at any Meme’s Curry you walk into. “So many people advised me to digitize the ordering process via QR codes, and I am dead against this. We want our customers to have a friendly interaction and a personal touch.”

Meme’s Curry first began in a home kitchen and having no background in the restaurant industry, Shehab’s role has tremendously evolved from being the key chef behind the delicious curry to CEO of the concept that is growing steadily in Kuwait. It’s a huge shift for him, but one that he takes pride in. “I never do anything without first learning about every single detail said project entails. I can cook the curry, clean the kitchen, do the prep, even take orders and speak with customers.”

Today, he is steering the ship as CEO, but that doesn’t mean that Shehab isn’t as involved as ever. He oversees the operations across three dine-locations and three delivery locations. Detail matters to him. After all, it’s this attention to the minute that sets Meme’s Curry apart from the rest and ensures that every serving of curry is consistent. It is this consistency that he’s maintained in from day one that has driven Meme’s Curry to expand with so much success. He cites the Salmiya location as a key turning point for him to evolve from Chef to CEO, he said, “Once the restaurant became well known, I had to decide to make the shift to grow Meme’s Curry, and not just continue to nurture it.”

Shehab always had a passion for the kitchen and the culinary arts. He recounts cooking with his family at the young age of 14, and how he always enjoyed cooking for his loved ones. “I loved Italian cuisine and trained at the Sheraton Hotel’s (Now St. Regis Kuwait) Riccardo restaurant under the renowned Head Chef Hugo in 2009.” A far departure from his day job, he completed six months of training hoping to learn all the ins and outs of the hospitality trade to open up his dream Italian concept. For Shehab, the culinary world was always going to be a hobby.

It was a trip to Thailand, however, that changed it all for him. Shehab’s obsession with Japanese curry didn’t begin in Japan, or a hotel, or some movie. It was complete serendipity. He was walking by and spotted a Coco Ichibanya, which oddly enough reminded him of his childhood anime favorites like Maroko. He just wanted to try the curry Maroko had, and from the very first bite, he was instantly hooked. “I had tasted Katsu before, but never at this level. I ate the same dish for three days straight! I had it with chicken, shrimp, and rice. I was obsessed.”

Shehab knew that he had come by something special, and from that day, he began experimenting in his kitchen back in Kuwait to recreate the same. In 2012, he went to Japan to learn more. “For 17 days, all I did was eat Japanese curry in every village and town I visited. It was running through my veins at that point.” He laughingly said, “Watching and learning from Masters, I discovered various types of Japanese curry, like curry udon, and even curry bread, and kept watching the chefs behind the counter. While everyone was obsessed with

Sushi back then, I learned that

makes up about seven percent of what Japanese cuisine has to offer”.

Shehab took his learnings and started experimenting back home in his kitchen. He made the delicious curry we taste today in Meme’s Curry for fun, friends, and diwaniyas. It never occurred to him to open a restaurant. Fast forward to 2013, and as a parent of two kids, a full-time job, and life, it was his friend who just told him to press start on the dream. Shehab hasn’t looked back since. He takes pride in the concept of just ‘starting’, it’s all you need to realize your dream.

Shehab hasn’t stopped learning since, traveling to Japan many times since then to undertake various trainings to ensure that Meme’s Curry is always on track and that he is fully equipped with the knowledge and tools he needs to expand the business in Kuwait.

So what is the secret behind Shehab’s famous Japanese curry sauce? “It took me three years to perfect the sauce. But the reality is, that keeping it simple is what makes it so good. Japanese cuisine focuses on having the best ingredients, and that’s what we do here at Meme’s Curry.” he said. We also learned the difference between traditional Asian curry and Japanese curry, and there’s a French twist to it. While Asian curries are usually thickened with nut milks, and feature a spicier base, Japanese curry is thickened using a French roux- essentially equal parts flour and butter and that’s what makes it extremely creamy. He told us, “It’s baffling how Japanese people even have curry. It all started when Japan was essentially forced to open up to the world, and

Sushi

when they worked with the British Empire then to establish their Japanese navy, it was the Indian officers of the Royal Navy who brought the spice mix called curry powder to Japan. To this day, the Japanese Navy traditionally have Japanese curry once a week. The initial days of curry in Japan were very different. With time locals have tempered the strong flavor and a Japanese chef came up with the Roux method, essentially combining French and Indian cuisine to create this sauce.”

Meme’s Curry began on Instagram, and people actually did order one day ahead to get a taste

of the elusive Japanese Curry and the velvety sauce we can’t get enough of. Slowly after, the famous Rehab Complex location came to be, then Salmiya’s The View Mall. We asked Shehab if the local palate was even ready back then for such a different flavor, to which he said, “Growing up here, the local palate is primed for strong, bold flavors. This is why, from the first moment I ever tried Japanese Curry while visiting Thailand, I knew it could work here.”

Today, the restaurant has three dine-in locations with a complete delivery service via

three delivery locations and prides itself on its laidback atmosphere and food philosophy. “We want to make it fun to go out eating with your friends and family, you won’t get any stuffy fine dining experiences at Meme’s Curry,” says Shehab. He has his dreams set on another concept, but it’s too early to spill the beans. We only expect great things from Shehab and his journey with Meme’s Curry.

BUILDING FOR TOMORROW

The future of construction is innovation and sustainability

In a world that produces “57 million tons of plastic waste every year” and in a nation with worsening home affordability for the past 20 years, millions of families are finding it increasingly difficult to achieve the dream of homeownership. Rising housing costs, coupled with high interest rates and limited inventory, have created an urgent need for innovative, sustainable, and affordable housing solutions that can reverse this troubling trend and provide relief for those struggling to find a place to call home.

We tackled this at Azure Printed Homes, by launching our 3D home printing business in 2022. We meshed the challenges of recycling plastic waste and the luck of gaining affordable housing to reimagine home construction with a patented 3D printing process that uses recycled polymers (approximately 150,000 plastic bottles) and fiberglass to construct entire structures.

Yes, as one of the finalists in this year’s Fast Company Small and Mighty list (and an honorable mention in Best World Changing Ideas), I am biased. I am cofounder of Azure Printed Homes, first covered by Fast Company when we launched our accessory dwelling units (ADU) and tiny home business two years ago in 2022.

Established versus startup: A sustainability foundation

We are far from alone in stepping forward to address the challenge of affordable, sustainable housing. But unlike most others, we believe that to address rising costs and increasing environmental concerns in a meaningful way, eco-friendly construction methods like 3D printing are essential. While the world’s biggest brands struggle to re-create themselves as sustainable ventures, they incur great costs to re-imagine and shift their traditional structures and process.

In nearly all cases, these barriers require them to progress in phases. Manufacturing changes require massive cap-X expenditures and an employee base with vastly different skills. Supply chains are forced to evolve. Marketing, messaging, and delivery must change, all while striving to protect the culture, brand promise, company reputation, and established customer base. Some brands such as Nike, Adidas, and Patagonia are succeeding. Most are struggling or are addressing sustainability in stages, and at great expense in forethought, research, and time.

But lean organizations that begin with impact and sustainability at their very foundation can innovate from an entirely clean page, which brings giant advantages. Companies can make ideal manufacturing and sourcing decisions from the start. Customization is far easier. Tweaks and improvements can happen economically and quickly.

Additionally, high innovation can bring vastly higher potential for profit, which can allow impactdriven ventures to fund their own expansion as well

as attracting a wider field and variety of investors as the company grows.

Scale a sustainable future

Traditional funding sources have struggled to address the unique needs of impact-driven manufacturing startups, which aren’t able to answer the traditional metrics of years of profitability and a track record of progressively higher EBITDA. Furthermore, venture capital (VC) funding is plunging, with a 30% decline in global VC in 2024’s first quarter.

This requires impact startups to rely on new and alternative forms of funding. For some (Azure included) this means that crowdfunding could be a surprisingly successful means of obtaining initial funds. Angels and family offices are ideal investors.

For some businesses, federal, state, and municipal grants may provide valuable incentives to both providers and customers of environmentally sustainable goods. For example, we obtained funding from the state of Colorado to open our new factory near Denver, which is also accelerating our drive for equity investment for R&D and continuing sales.

In the most ideal instances, funding can arrive in the form of early pre-orders. This has been the greatest force behind Azure’s growth in our initial two years. We currently have $30 million in preorders in 19 states for delivery in the coming 12 months, and have received international interest.

With the housing market in flux and challenges such as zoning regulations and construction workforce shortages, 3D-printed homes offer a viable solution that we can easily adapt for urban, suburban, and even difficult-to-build-on locations.

Our vision is to use the traction these orders provide us to continue expanding to new manufacturing facilities and to scale our construction method globally, particularly as there is no end in sight to the global of plastic waste that we can use as raw materials to obtain and recycle.  This model creates a virtual cycle that can scale to any degree required to meet humanity’s need.

What’s next?

As we look toward 2025 and our plans for continuing expansion and production capacity, our mission is to lead the charge in creating sustainable homes and ADUs that are both environmentally friendly and accessible to the biggest possible customer base. We see many impact-driven organizations, including our peers on this year’s Best World Changing Ideas list are uniquely poised to succeed in the changing business environment.

We look forward to sharing our experiences within this unique community as we continue to grow.

ASK MR. DAD

Am I boring my child?

Dear Mr. Dad: I’m a super-involved at-home dad of a 1-year-old daughter. We spend a lot of time together and it’s usually pretty fun. But sometimes I have a feeling that she’s bored, which isn’t surprising, because, honestly, sometimes I’m pretty bored myself. Got any ideas of how I can keep her entertained?

A: Wow, this question takes me back a few decades to when I was a first-time dad and had the exact same worry. Fortunately, I was able to overcome it—and I know you will too.

For me, the process started with rethinking a few words, the first being “entertained.”

Adults know from experience that there’s a big difference between play and work. But for kids, everything is play—it’s how they learn about the world. Play teaches them about shapes, textures, colors, sounds and the laws of physics (if I drop something, it falls down; some objects float in water, others don’t; if I push that green button, a puppet will jump up).

It also teaches them about feelings (if I make those cute cooing sounds, mommy and daddy will pick me up and kiss me, but if I throw my toys, they’ll make that frowny face and do that eyebrow thing that makes me feel bad). It even teaches them about empathy (when daddy and I are rolling around on the floor, it’s OK for me to poke him in the face once or twice, but any more than that, and he puts me in my crib).

Just being with you, even if you’re doing things that you might think are boring, can be really entertaining—and educational too. Even the most mundane places, like grocery stores, provide endless opportunities for learning. Have your daughter touch a kiwi and a coconut and talk with her about the differences. Are there any other fruits or veggies with unusual textures or smells? What about the difference between boxes on the shelves or similar looking boxes in the freezer section?

Keep in mind that not every activity has to be fun. Your daughter wants to be like you and do all the cool things you do. So let her help you rinse the dishes after breakfast or vacuum up (or eat) the Cheerios she spilled in the back seat of the car. What you’re doing isn’t important, but talking about it together is. Sure, grocery shopping and household chores aren’t exactly “entertainment,” but they’re fantastic relationship-building opportunities that help you and your daughter get to know each other better, and show her that you love her, which is, in my view, the most important thing any dad can do.

The other word you’ll need to rethink is “involved.” You’re not a walking smartphone app and you don’t need to keep your daughter laughing and giggling 24/7. In fact, little kids need down time, just like we do. Playing all day is physically exhausting and processing all the new information she’s learning is mentally exhausting.

If you and your child are together and she wants to spend some time playing quietly by herself, take that as a compliment rather than a criticism of your fatherhood skills. If your daughter didn’t know with 100% certainty that she could count on you to be there if she really needs you, she’d never let you out of her sight. So at least once a day, set your daughter up with a puzzle or another favorite toy and back away. Don’t go too far—you always want to keep an eye on her—but there’s no need to stand over her shoulder.

Further strengthening the appeal of one of the Middle East’s best-loved vehicles, Mohamed Naser Al Sayer & Sons EST Co. and Toyota have launched the latest iteration of its iconic Camry model in the region. Featuring a sleek, athletic exterior design and a spacious, high-quality interior, the new Camry combines engaging performance with seamless technology to help drivers and passengers get the most out of every journey.

The event was attended by Martin Aherne Senior Business Director Toyota Group Sales, Theo Kruger General Manager of Toyota retail sales, Bader Faisal Al Sayer Head of Toyota Marketing, along with the representatives from press and media.

According to Bader Faisal Al Sayer “Toyota Camry has established an exceptional presence and position in the mid-size saloon car market, in

the Middle East and around the world. It managed to sell nearly 20 million cars worldwide. I would like to extend my thanks to all Toyota customers for their continuous support over the years, and we are always pleased to provide them with Toyota cars of the highest quality so that they can enjoy a distinctive experience that exceeds their expectations”.

Since its debut in 1982 and evolution over nine generations, the Toyota Camry has been embraced around the world for its outstanding performance, alluring design and renowned quality and value. As one of the Middle East’s most popular vehicles, it has established an unshakeable presence in the mid-size sedan market and a special place in the hearts of drivers in the region. With its advanced yet seamless technology, modern styling, and an all-new Toyota Hybrid System, this model introduces a level of refinement that exceeds expectations, further cementing the Camry’s reputation as a class-leading vehicle.

Theo Kruger said “Around the world, Camry has established a reputation for value. It’s simply outstanding in every way with the highest market share of the medium-size market in the GCC. The drivers of Camry are loyal, they are highly satisfied, they know Camry’s unparalleled quality and they buy it again and again.”

Tsukasa Takahashi, Chief Engineer for the Camry’s development, stated: “Since the launch of the first-generation Camry in 1982, we have delivered countless successful iterations to our global customers. This success is thanks to our distributors, dealers, and the customers who love this vehicle. Our mission is to maintain our position and continue offering appealing products for sedan enthusiasts everywhere. By further enhancing our trusted and proven nameplate, cherished by customers worldwide for many years, the Camry will remain a ‘sedan to the core.’”

Nobuyuki Takemura, Chief Representative, Middle East and Central Asia Representative Office, Toyota Motor Corporation, commented: “We are excited to introduce the new Toyota Camry to our loyal Middle East customers. This iconic sedan, beloved throughout the region, embodies Toyota’s commitment to innovation and performance. Toyota is also proud to offer an electrified powertrain option, making it yet another addition to our offering of sustainable mobility solutions. We deeply appreciate the support of our customers in the region and look forward to continuing our journey with them to deliver ‘ever-better cars’ that exceed their expectations.”

The new Camry is built around the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA-K) platform. This delivers excellent body rigidity and a low center of gravity,

guaranteeing a more rewarding driving experience. The vehicle features a re-engineered suspension and braking system, with optimally tuned MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension, contributing to outstanding stability and handling to create exceptional ride comfort. The retuned suspension enhances responsiveness and agile handling, adding a sense of thrill when taking on twisting and turning roads.

To achieve a more exciting driving style, the new Toyota Camry comes with a choice of two powertrain options, including a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Dynamic Force engine that produces 201 hp and 240 nm of torque and is paired with an eight-speed DirectShift automatic transmission; and an electrified hybrid powertrain, which combines a petrol engine and two electric motors that produce 184 hp and 134 hp respectively. The combined power of the two power sources is 227 hp. It is also paired with an Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT) delivering heightened driving pleasure.

The new Camry HEV features the latest fifthgeneration Toyota Hybrid System (THS 5), an evolutionary upgrade that allows the vehicle to operate entirely on electrical power with zero fuel consumption and carbon emissions or use a petrol engine combined with two high-performance electric motors. This system enhances powertrain output, acceleration, and driving response while maintaining impressive fuel efficiency of 27.7 km/L. Equipped with lithium-ion batteries that provide increased output in a smaller, lighter package, the Camry automatically

recharges through the petrol engine or during braking, eliminating the need for external charging. This results in significant petrol station visits while delivering a driving experience comparable to conventional vehicles.

As with any Toyota vehicle, safety is a top priority for the new Camry. Drivers can enjoy complete peace of mind, thanks to the Toyota Safety Sense, an advanced safety and driver assistance system that includes a Pre-Collision System (PCS) with an expanded detection range for vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcycles, together with new features such as Intersection collision avoidance support for crossing vehicles, Emergency Steering Assist, and Acceleration Suppression at Low Speed.

The new Toyota Camry allows customers to express their individuality through a choice of seven distinctive exterior colors, including Emotional Red, Platinum White Pearl MC, Silver ME, Precious Metal, and Attitude Black MC. Additionally, two all-new colors, Precious Bronze and DK. Blue MC, have been introduced. The interior offers a range of four complementary color schemes: Fromage, Black, Yellow Brown, and Neutral Beige. Customers can further personalize their Camry with a choice of three-wheel designs: 18-inch aluminum wheels with tight spokes for a sporty yet upscale look, 17-inch aluminum wheels featuring multi-axis spokes for a sleek, elegant look, and 16-inch steel wheels with twin spokes that create a sense of continuous motion.

The ups and downs of travel translation apps

Traveling to destinations where you don’t speak the local language can leave you lost in translation. Communicating in the local language helps advance cultural exchange and improves engagement with locals. Overcoming language barriers increases travelers’ ability to immerse themselves in the local culture.

Translation apps are not a replacement for organic fluency, but they can help cross important communication barriers regarding local navigation, reading menus, managing public transportation, shopping or getting help, even in emergencies.

Risks and dangers of using translation apps

There are downsides to translation app technology. For example, if you’re an English-speaking lawyer on vacation in France and want to tell a local person what your profession is, you could ask Google Translate to provide the French version of “I am a lawyer.”

Google Translate will suggest you say, “Je suis un avocat.” Unfortunately, you just told your French friend that you are an avocado. In French, the word “avocat” means lawyer and avocado. The critical distinction is using the French word “un” before “avocat.” With the word “un” before “avocat,,” it means avocado; without it, the meaning is “lawyer.”

However, if you used Microsoft Translator, then it would recommend that you say, “Je suis avocat” – without the French word “un,” and that means you are, in fact, a lawyer.

The lesson here is that these tools, though often helpful, don’t always account for cultural nuances or context, and can stumble, sometimes disastrously, over colloquialisms, leading to bewildering misunderstandings and unintended comedy—or worse—when communicating with locals.

There are several other translation app risks, too, including:

Technical issues: Apps that rely on internet connectivity can be unreliable or costly.

Privacy concerns: Some translation apps require access to personal data, raising privacy issues.

Security risks: Using public Wi-Fi networks to access translation apps can expose sensitive information to potential hackers.

Dependency: Relying too heavily on translation apps may hinder language learning and cultural immersion.

Communication breakdown: In complex or nuanced conversations, translation apps may not be able to convey tone or context accurately, leading to misunderstandings.

What apps are available?

Several translation apps can assist with language translation, text recognition, voice translation and offline capabilities. The following are 10 of the best translation apps for tourists to consider using while traveling:

Waygo specializes in visual translation and is particularly useful for translating text into images and menus in Asian languages.

Papago is a popular translation app in Asia, offering text and voice translation in multiple languages, including Asian languages like Korean, Japanese and Chinese.

TripLingo is explicitly designed for travelers and has language guides, cultural information, and voice translations in multiple languages.

Google Translate is one of the most popular and widely used translation apps. It offers text, speech, and camera translation in many languages and offline capabilities for some features.

Microsoft Translator provides text and voice translation in multiple languages and the ability to translate conversations in real-time with several participants.

ITranslate offers text and voice translation, a dictionary, offline mode and the ability to save favorite translations for quick access.

SayHi provides voice translation in multiple languages, allowing users to have multilingual conversations with real-time translation.

Translate Now offers text and voice translation in numerous languages and the ability to save and organize translations for future reference.

Babylon Translator has text and voice translation in multiple languages and a dictionary and language learning tool.

Easy Language Translator provides text and voice translation in various languages with a simple and user-friendly interface.

Before traveling, it’s wise to download and familiarize yourself with one or more of these translation apps to help facilitate communication and enhance your travel experience. It’s also helpful to have a basic understanding of common phrases or greetings in the local language of the country you are visiting to show respect and courtesy to the locals. Finally, obtaining travel protection services that provide access to an in-person, live translation resource is essential for situations requiring more precision, like ensuring a prescription is filled correctly, sorting out a legal issue, or managing a medical or security emergency.

MARCHA: A PASSIONATE JOURNEY FROM IDEA TO ICON

Two Friends turned big dreams into a luxury brand for the modern traveler

What happens when two friends with a shared dream and a lot of late-night coffee sessions decide to change the world, one stylish bag at a time? Meet Marcha, the luxurious yet practical bag brand designed for modern commuters and travelers. Born from a blend of creativity and necessity, Marcha is the brainchild of Athoub and Reem, who transformed their passion for fashion and function into a brand that’s quickly becoming a must-have for people on the go.

“We started Marcha as a kind of escape plan from our corporate lives,” shares Athoub, smiling as she recalls the journey. “It was during one of those mind-numbing meetings when the idea first came to me. I thought, ‘Why not create something that combines luxury with practicality?’ So I brought it up with Reem, and she was immediately on board.”

Reem jumps in, “We had this late-night brainstorming session, fueled by a bag of chips

and a lot of excitement. We were tired of seeing the same boring bags that either looked stylish but fell apart after a few uses or were durable but lacked any kind of flair. So we decided, why not do both? That’s how Marcha started.”

Marcha didn’t start in a fancy office or design studio—it started in a living room. The duo created their first prototypes using fabric scraps and a lot of duct tape. But what they lacked in resources, they made up for with determination.

“We didn’t have a solid business plan or anything like that,” Athoub admits. “Our first design was just a concept we posted on Instagram, thinking, ‘Let’s see what happens.’ The response was overwhelming! We hadn’t even planned for so many orders.”

“We literally turned my living room into a mini factory,” Reem laughs. “We were packaging and shipping bags ourselves, but it quickly became obvious we needed help. That’s when we started

partnering with suppliers and building out our logistics.”

Marcha bags are known for their elegant design and practical features. So, how do they balance these two essential elements? “For us, luxury isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about the experience,” says Reem. “We’re obsessed with the little details, like the feel of the fabric and the durability of the zippers. We want Marcha bags to look good, but also be your go-to for everyday life.”

Athoub adds, “Our goal is to make something that fits seamlessly into your routine. Whether you’re commuting to work or traveling to a new

destination, we want Marcha to be your reliable, stylish companion.” As Marcha continues to expand, the brand has set its sights on global markets. While they’ve seen strong demand in Kuwait, their products are also gaining traction in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

“We’ve been blown away by the support from our customers in the Middle East,” says Athoub. “Especially in Saudi Arabia—there’s such a strong appetite for luxury, but also for practicality. To meet this demand, we’re working on setting up a fulfillment center there, which will make it easier to serve our customers quickly and efficiently.” Reem nods in agreement, “We also want to tap

into the U.S. market. It’s a huge step, but we believe our bags offer something unique that resonates with people looking for both fashion and functionality.”

One of the keys to Marcha’s success is the dynamic partnership between Athoub and Reem. While Reem brings her creative vision to the table, Athoub handles the business side of things, making sure everything runs smoothly.

“We complement each other,” says Reem. “Athoub is great at seeing the big picture, while I tend to focus on the details. Together, we’re able to balance creativity with strategy.” Athoub adds, “We’ve learned so much from working together.

Communication and respect are everything. There are moments when we disagree, but we always find a way to move forward because we share the same vision for Marcha.”

So what’s next for Marcha? Their ultimate goal is nothing short of world domination—at least in the world of everyday accessories. “We’re aiming to become the world’s most coveted everyday bag,” says Athoub with a laugh. “It’s ambitious, but we’re not afraid to dream big. We’re working on partnerships with influencers, creating content that inspires, and most importantly, listening to our customers to keep improving.”

Reem adds, “We’re just getting started. The journey has been incredible so far, and we can’t wait to see where it takes us next.”

As Marcha continues to grow, one thing is clear: it’s more than just a brand. It’s a passionate journey, fueled by creativity, resilience, and a deep love for fashion and function. Whether you’re a commuter navigating the city streets or a traveler exploring new horizons, Marcha is the stylish companion you never knew you needed.

TOO HOT

Why some people enjoy pain-inducing and face-puckering foods

Six hours. That’s how long it took prolific pepper breeder “Smokin” Ed Currie to recover from his ultimate creation: Pepper X. Recognized in October 2023 by the Guinness World Records, it’s the hottest on the planet.

A “millisecond” of flavor followed by a quarterday of intestinal cramping, the 2,693,000 Scoville Heat Unit fruit is 1,346 times hotter than your average bell pepper and packs a terribly powerful punch. It’s more potent than most commercial grade pepper sprays. That’s why Currie does not advise anyone eat one raw, as he did.

He ate more peppers for dinner the same day he gobbled one up for lunch, according to Scientific American. But why?

Science can explain how painfully spicy and face-puckering sour foods play into thrill-seeking behavior. In essence, it’s a challenge the human mind is excited to face. That’s one reason social media is not short on content about spicy dares.

“These challenges are really drawing people in who have that psychological affinity — sensationseeking, reward-seeking types of behaviors,” Elisa Trucco, director of the Research on Adolescent and Child Health Lab at Florida International University, told NBC News. “So the more dangerous it is, the more thrilling it is.”

Both spicy and sour foods stimulate the body’s fight-or-flight response, sending pleasure-inducing hormones to the brain. It’s an experience similar to watching a horror movie.

“That’s where the pleasure comes, from the fact that you’re overriding your body’s signal not to do this,” added Paul Rozin, a professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania.

After using questionnaires to test twins on spice preferences and cross referencing their answers with quantitative genetic modeling, a 2012 study published in Physiology & Behavior also discovered genes may play an important role in determining if a person likes or dislikes spicy food. But the scientists stressed more research is needed to better understand the genetic influence.

Dr. Edwin McDonald, a gastroenterologist at the University of Chicago Medical Center, stressed that spicy and sour foods are safe only in moderation. Anything remotely as spicy as Pepper X, even significantly less so, can hospitalize someone — especially those with high blood pressure or asthma.

“Consuming some foods that have capsaicin in it may be associated with increasing longevity and decreasing the risk of cancer,” McDonald said. “But these are not the peppers that people are doing in the challenge.”

Currie said he will keep crafting up new superspicy peppers all the same.

“Oh, yeah, I know we can,” he told Scientific

American, when asked if he can make a hotter fruit than Pepper X. “We’ve tested a lot of peppers at a higher level, but we don’t yet have a lot of years of averages. You show the average of the tests (when you’re reporting the Scoville rating); you don’t show

your single highest test. I think we can achieve a lot more, but there’s really not much use for it — unless it tastes good.”

ELEGANTLY FLUID

COS reveals its autumnwinter atelier collection inspired by the elegance of ballet and the fluidity of movement

London-based fashion brand COS unveils its latest Atelier collection, marking the fifth season of the capsule since debuting at New York Fashion Week in 2022. Showcasing considered fabrics, precise tailoring, and meticulous attention to detail, the Autumn Winter 2024 collection draws inspiration from the elegance of ballet, and the fluidity of movement.

The latest collection exemplifies COS’ unwavering commitment to quality and design, merging classic styles with contemporary innovation. The predominantly dark color palette features winter neutrals and rich shades of brown, enhanced by striking accents of green.

Womenswear seamlessly blends elegance with refinement. Emphasizing the movement of the wearer, an open-back gown adorned with delicately tied knots and draped floor-length sashes features a voluminous skirt with laser-finished panels. Slimtailored trousers enhance the proportions of a flowing silk-draped blouse with an elegant neck scarf. Transparent fabrics are revisited thoughtfully

for autumn, pairing sheer double-layered skirts and funnel neck vests. Double-faced wool adds a sense of softness to the collection, complemented by the rich surface textures of oversized outerwear and brushed hairy knits. The season’s looks are enhanced by cascading quartz jewelry, statement leather gloves, and finished with ballerina flats.

Dedicated to unparalleled craftsmanship and quality, the menswear collection features traditional tailoring techniques reimagined for contemporary style. Raw denim set dressing, brushed cashmere knits, and a honeycomb stitch bomber jacket elevate everyday dressing, while sleeveless wool vests and crisp white shirts, worn

with double-breasted blazers and a reinvented, heritage herringbone coat transition looks from day to evening. Fluid-draped shirts paired with softly tailored trousers form a gently structured silhouette, while removable collars and shirt buttons, which can be exchanged for cufflinks, offer versatility. A folded leather bag, pony skin loafers, double-layered belts, recycled silver and quartz jewellery, and soft cashmere hats complete the refined autumn look.

BRAIN SCIENCE CALLED IT

This is the best way to learn anything new. Here’s how

The social side of work is in short supply these days. Post-pandemic, many organizations have turned to some form of a hybrid approach: employees splitting their time between remote work and commuting into the office. Instead of everyone interacting together in person, people largely work in isolation, throug meetings with their cameras off.

What’s gotten lost in this new world of work is how companies upskill their employees. Most leaders now feel their current learning and development efforts are a waste of time, perhaps because those efforts aren’t as effective as leaders would hope. They rely mostly on content libraries or self-guided courses, even if those approaches have known limitations for long-term retention and behavior change.

In reality, leaders who want to rapidly develop their employees should harness the benefits of social learning, regardless of whether their culture is mostly virtual or in person. When done right, social learning activates crucial networks of the brain that deepen understanding and ease of recall, and enable the development of new behaviors.

Social learning is the practice of learning material in the company of others. It can be in person or a rich virtual environment, but the core insight is that when we learn something with other people—be it a college study group, a cooking class, or workplace learning—we encode the information more robustly in the brain and feel more motivated to act.

One explanation for this is that humans have evolved to encode social information automatically because it’s always been essential to our survival. The more we feel connected to the group, the greater our chances of staying safe— and so over time, our brains have become more responsive to what we learn in the presence of a group.

With social learning, we remember how we felt

MAPLENUT is back!

Maplenut Spanish Latte
Maplenut Cold Brew
Maplenut Iced Latte

Generation involves linking new information to existing knowledge and sparking insights.

Emotion involves having slightly positive or negative feelings that enhance recall.

Social learning enhances these three elements, like turning up the volume dial on a stereo. Without a social component, learners won’t pay as much attention, generate connections to past learning, or feel emotions around the material as deeply.

An important area of future research is how much social interaction is needed for optimal learning. It stands to reason that some interaction is better than none and that different kinds are stronger than others: in-person being the strongest, followed by virtual with cameras on (live video enhances social cues), then virtual with cameras off, and lastly, in writing.

In addition to creating high AGES, social learning helps to embed the information into more networks in the brain, which essentially means there are more hooks for the memories and learning to hang onto. When we recall one part of the network— say, a memory of a joke someone made during the lesson—we can more easily recall the whole network.

In addition to these two benefits—encoding more deeply and recalling more easily—social learning also helps us do something with that

knowledge. It lets us act more often.

The networks in the brain responsible for storing the information also prompt us to pursue a new and better course of action, often influenced by the social pressure of knowing what others expect of us and not wanting to look bad in front of the group. In other words, social learning doesn’t just help us know better; it helps us do better.

For example, let’s say your team is going through a social learning experience around unconscious bias. If done properly, the learning will: 1) help people encode the information on how bias works more deeply; 2) allow them to recall that information more easily in the moment when they need it; and 3) prompt them to act more often, in real time, in ways that lead to less-biased decision-making.

If each person had learned this material on their own, research suggests they’d be less likely to unconsciously monitor the presence of bias and do something about it. Social learning, by contrast, is an animating presence for teams. It doesn’t just deepen understanding; it enables new behaviors. Teams of any size and function can use social learning to support culture change efforts. They can also enhance current learning and development efforts—whether in-person coaching, self-guided study, or some mix of modalities—by making sure the social component is present throughout.

For example, instead of simply asking people to complete an online course by a certain date, leaders can ask employees to meet with one another once or twice through the course to share what they’ve learned and any major insights they’ve had. This turns a solitary experience into a social one, which science suggests will leave a bigger impact on each learner’s brain and lead to longer-term behavior change.

Creating organizational change

While most of us have been taught to retain knowledge in order to score well on tests, organizational learning efforts are for a different purpose. They transform how groups of people work together.

The best way to change behavior through learning efforts is by making it social— that is, enriching the mental maps people form around new information so they can encode the info more deeply, recall it more easily, and act in the right ways more often.

This is how change happens on an organizational scale. It takes groups of people sharing experiences, learning together what the right behaviors are, and then turning those experiences into new, more effective ways of working.

Cleveland effortlessly embodies the collection’s essence, bringing the opulent, couture-like pieces to life with a sense of fantasy and grounded elegance, while offering insights from her life spent in the world of beauty and fashion.

“Fashion empowers me by affirming that I can be anyone I dream to be,” says Anna Cleveland. Paying homage to the exuberance and splendor of 1950s couture, the collection infuses couture-like silhouettes with a modern attitude. Lustrous metallic brocades, organic mulberry silk, and RWS-certified wool adorn sculptural dresses, a two-piece set, a menswear-inspired suit, a bomber jacket, and an opera coat. The colors, textures, ornamentation, and patterns harmonize beautifully, presenting nocturnal and glamorous future vintage ensembles. Pearls and crystals embellish shoes and accessories like constellations in the night sky, adding sparkling details to the sartorial symphony. Each piece is an overture to the joy of dressing up, accessorizing, and self-expression, injecting something new and unexpected into the fashion dialogue.

“We envisioned this collection for the spirited freethinker — a stylistic adventuress like Anna, whose wardrobe is a creativity-fuelled collage of color, print, and texture,” says Frida Billegren, Atelier Designer.

A renowned fashion model, Anna Cleveland is celebrated for her distinctive presence and dynamic contributions to the industry. Born in 1989 in the Netherlands, she is the daughter of iconic supermodel Pat Cleveland and former fashion photographer Paul van Ravenstein. Immersed in the world of haute couture from an early age, Anna developed a unique sense of style and a deep understanding of fashion. At five, Anna debuted on the runway, walking for Moschino with her mother.

This early introduction set the stage for her flourishing career. Known for her striking features, statuesque frame, and theatrical runway

performances, Anna quickly became a muse for avant-garde designers and luxury fashion houses. Throughout her career, Anna has graced the runways of prestigious fashion shows, including those of Jean Paul Gaultier, Chanel, and Dolce & Gabbana.

Her ability to embody a wide range of aesthetics has made her a favorite among designers who seek to infuse their shows with drama and artistry. In addition to her runway work, Anna has been featured in high-profile campaigns for brands including Bottega Veneta, Zac Posen, and Lanvin. Anna’s editorial work is equally impressive, appearing in leading fashion magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and W Magazine. Her photogenic versatility and expressive poses have made her a sought-after subject for top photographers. Anna Cleveland remains a true icon in the ever-evolving world of fashion.

Tell us about your earliest fashion memory.

I was walking my first runway show with my mother [Pat Cleveland] when I was about five years old. I remember wearing a T-shirt and looking up at all the girls and thinking, one day I’ll wear those beautiful clothes. At the end of the show, the designer came to me and gave me a stuffed frog. He said if you kiss the frog, your wish will come true, and you will dress up beautifully and meet your Prince Charming! Well, it all happened!

What does fashion mean to you? You’ve mentioned that fashion is your family.

My dad [Paul van Ravenstein] was a photographer working in New York in the ‘70s. His sister, my aunt Apollonia, was a model; my mom and aunt were best friends and worked together. But what I really mean is that I am one with everyone who is creative and seeks to uplift the world through beauty, making life more beautiful. We resonate on a frequency of pure passion and love — a true community of friendship and camaraderie.

In what way does fashion empower you?

Fashion empowers me by affirming that I can be anyone I dream to be.

What do you dream of creating?

I love fashion and film; I feel it’s the new form of editorial expression. I would love to explore that more. We can always expand in new ways. Like the Whitney Houston song says, “I am every woman. It’s all in me.”

How would you describe the Savoir collection in just three words?

Chic, chic, chic!

What are your favourite pieces from the Savoir collection, and where would you wear them?

The golden two-piece matching set that I wore for the campaign. I love wearing a two-piece matching set when dressing for special occasions. I find that so chic.

Share a precious piece of style advice that you live by.

Always choose timeless pieces you can see yourself wearing down the line (not just for one occasion).

The Savoir 2024 Collection is launching in November 2024. Available globally in selected stores.

Tips for traveling with chronic pain

Traveling can be a painful experience even if you’re someone who generally enjoys good health. In those ultra-cramped economy seats aboard airplanes, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who’d call themselves comfortable. But, for those who suffer with chronic pain, the proposition of travel presents a myriad of extra concerns and challenges.

For some, their symptoms substantially restrict even their daily activities, so the notion of venturing outside their usual controllable environment seems almost impossible. These often-invisible afflictions can effectively incapacitate you or, at least, impede your ability to enjoy all kinds of things other people take for granted. But, with careful planning and some compensatory measures at the ready, travel isn’t necessarily off the table.

There are some things you can do to help ensure that your journey runs smoothly and minimize the discomfort of whatever mode of transportation you choose. And, while the change in your environment and routine that accompanies travel will undoubtedly challenge your body, you can do your best to prepare for likely eventualities. There may be nothing we can do about the pitch of airplane seating, but some things are still within our control.

Mentality

The first obstacle may be the lingering worry that you might experience a flare-up and find yourself unfit to travel when the departure date actually arrives, which could deter you from making plans in the first place. What if an attack comes on midtrip and you find yourself without your usual means of mitigating the symptoms? It will probably be necessary to remind yourself constantly of the benefits you’ll enjoy because of your trip — seeing friends or loved ones, experiencing new things or the singular enjoyment that comes from a change of scenery.

Planning ahead

If your budget allows, you may wish to purchase travel insurance with Cancel For Any Reason coverage, so that you can back out of your trip in case the worst-case scenario does occur. Be sure to look thoroughly into the terms of your policy, however, as some may not reimburse you 100% of your travel expenses.

Communication

If you’re traveling with companions, be transparent about your condition. The pressures of traveling, particularly in a group, can be compounded if other members of your party don’t realize that you’re in appreciable pain. With invisible ailments, it’s essential to communicate your needs and limitations to your group so that they are aware of and can accommodate your restrictions, or at least

understand when you need to dip out of an activity and go rest in your room.

Reduce travel time

There are things you can do to help reduce the amount of time you spend on your travel journey, most of which involve some extra expense. You can minimize time spent standing in security screening queues by enrolling in TSA Precheck, which allows you to use a dedicated lane for expedited screening service. If possible, you’ll also want to opt for a direct flight to reduce time spent in transit and lugging your bags around multiple airports.

Pack light

Perhaps this one is intuitive (and it’s definitely easier said than done), but you’ll want to pack as lightly as possible. Hauling around a heavy

suitcase can easily aggravate your chronic pain condition, and the walk between your car and the airport or hotel room can quite suddenly seem very arduous. Of course, ensure you’ve got a suitcase with wheels to make things easier. If possible, you could consider shipping bulky items directly to your destination. There are companies like Luggage Free, Send My Bag and Lugless that deliver directly to your accommodations.

Bring comfort items

Packing lightly can sometimes prove challenging given my next tip, which is that you pack items that keep you comfortable while both awake and asleep. If you need to stuff a special pillow, heating or cooling pads into a larger suitcase, by all means, do it. Perhaps you need to bring along certain food or snack items that help minimize inflammation.

CBD products can be brought aboard airplanes as long as the THC content is no higher than 0.3% (and you are flying between states or countries where it’s legal).

Packing medications

It may be helpful to use a travel pill organizer so you don’t need to fumble through bottles buried inside your luggage and can bring only the amount of medication you need. If you’re on an international flight, however, you may need to bring the original bottles or copies of your prescriptions. Be sure to fill your prescriptions in advance of your trip and bring along an extra three days’ supply in case your flight gets delayed or canceled and you’re away from home longer than intended. To be on the safe side, you may want to bring along a record of your condition and a list of the medications you’re taking.

Prepare your carry-on

Be sure to pack your medications, water, snacks and pain management tools in your carry-on for easy access. In case your luggage gets mishandled, you don’t want to be caught without these things. That includes any NSAIDS or other analgesics you might need mid-flight or while navigating the airport. A good neck pillow and stick-on heating/cooling pads for tight muscles can prove indispensable during a flight. I also bring a supply of cold medications and supplements with me on every trip, as my pain becomes quite unbearable when I’m fighting any illness.

Wheelchair assistance

Airports are required to provide wheelchair or medical assistance to anyone who requests them, whether or not you typically use a wheelchair. Airlines recommend calling at least 48 hours in advance on your departure on either end of your trip to request a wheelchair or guided assistance, and you can also inform a gate attendant once you arrive. This also allows you to take advantage of early boarding, so that you don’t have to stand for extended periods of time as the masses try to board the plane ahead of you. For more in-depth information on these services, visit the U.S. Department of Transportation’s article on Wheelchair and Guided Assistance.

Flying in pain

Be sure to buy your ticket early so you have your choice of airplane seats, and opt for as much legroom and seat comfort as you can afford. Even if you can’t spring for First or Business class, scoring an aisle seat in Economy has its benefits, allowing you to stand up and stretch or move around more mid-flight. Even if you have to squeeze past seatmates to do so, be sure to get up and move a bit during the flight to reduce stiffness and improve circulation.

Throughout your travel journey, you’ll want to stay hydrated and eat as well as possible to

keep your blood sugar levels stable and avoid inflammation-triggering foods (like most of the stuff that’s typically available on the go). This is definitely easier said than done when you’re having to dine at the airport, so keep some healthy snacks handy in your carry-on bag.

Go by train

If air travel comes with too many variables for you to be reasonably comfortable getting on a plane and flying, consider rail travel as a viable alternative. Going by train may take longer, but it comes with considerable perks, including ample legroom and often some stunning scenery along the way. You can also choose to book sleeper accommodations,

which afford you more privacy, allow you more space to move around an allow you to lie down flat for maximum comfort.

Go by car

If you’re not going too far and will be driving to your destination, many of the above principles still apply. Keep medications and comfort items close at hand, stay hydrated and eat as healthily as possible, and make sure to take breaks roughly every hour so that you can get out, stretch and move around. You’ll also want to swap driving duties, if possible.

THE ART OF TEA AHMAD TEA’S LEGACY OF EXCELLENCE

There’s something undeniably magical about a cup of tea. It holds the power to soothe the soul, awaken the senses, and create moments of peace in our busy lives. Whether it’s the warmth of the cup in your hands, the gentle aroma wafting upwards, or the ritual of steeping the leaves, tea has a way of grounding us. Each sip offers comfort and connection, inviting reflection or conversation, and for many, it becomes a cherished daily ritual that transforms the ordinary into something extraordinary. Ahmad Tea is the first brand we think of when we think of a cup of tea that embraces tradition, quality, and craftsmanship. Founded in the United Kingdom over 35 years ago, it has grown from a humble family business to a globally recognized brand. The company prides itself on delivering premium-quality tea, inspired by British tea culture, while making it accessible to tea lovers across the world. At the heart of Ahmad Tea’s success is a commitment to quality, expertise in tea blending, and a deep respect for its heritage.

Tradition and Heritage: A Proud British Legacy Ahmad Tea’s story is steeped in British tea culture. The company is family-owned, founded in England, where the tradition of afternoon tea has been cherished for centuries. As a familyowned business, the company values heritage and tradition, which are evident in every aspect of their tea-making process. Even though the brand has grown to serve over 80 countries, it remains committed to its British roots, where tea is more than just a drink—it’s a way of life.

The family’s dedication to tea comes from a long lineage of tea connoisseurs. Their passion for tea, combined with a desire to create an exceptional product, led to the founding of Ahmad Tea in 1986. Since then, the company has stayed true to its original mission: to make high-quality tea accessible to people around the world.

Despite its growth, Ahmad Tea remains a family-owned company. This family ownership allows the company to remain focused on longterm goals rather than short-term profits. The values of integrity, authenticity, and care are at the heart of their mission, ensuring that the company continues to produce the same exceptional teas that it has been making for decades.

Quality and Craftsmanship: Mastering the Art of Tea Blending

Ahmad Tea’s commitment to excellence is deeply rooted in the quality of its ingredients and its team of highly skilled tea tasters. They source tea leaves from the finest tea-growing regions around the world, including India, Sri Lanka, China, and Kenya. These regions are renowned for producing high-quality teas, and Ahmad Tea ensures that

only the best leaves are selected to meet their rigorous standards.

What sets Ahmad Tea apart is its team of over 15 professional tea tasters who travel the world to carefully select, taste, and blend each variety of tea. These experts bring decades of experience, honed skills, and refined palates to their craft, ensuring that each blend reflects the brand’s high standards. The process of tea tasting is both art and science, involving assessing the color, aroma, and flavor of the tea. Their expertise ensures consistency and quality across all Ahmad Tea blends, offering an exceptional tea experience in every cup.

The art of blending is one of Ahmad Tea’s most prized practices. Every blend is a carefully crafted combination of different tea varieties to create a balanced and harmonious flavor. Whether

it’s a robust black tea, a delicate green tea, or a refreshing herbal infusion, the meticulous blending process ensures that each tea meets the high expectations of Ahmad Tea’s customers.

A Diverse Range of Teas: Something for Every Tea Lover

Ahmad Tea’s product range is as diverse as the cultures that enjoy it. Whether you’re a lover of classic black tea or enjoy experimenting with herbal infusions, Ahmad Tea has something to offer. Their flagship teas are the black tea blends, which include some of the most popular varieties like English Breakfast, Earl Grey, and Darjeeling. These classic teas have been staples in British households for generations and continue to be Ahmad Tea’s most beloved offerings. However, Ahmad Tea’s expertise extends far beyond black tea. They also offer an impressive range of green teas, which are appreciated for their subtle, delicate flavors and numerous health benefits. From pure green tea to green tea infused with flavors like jasmine or mint, the options cater to both traditionalists and those seeking new flavors.

For those who prefer caffeine-free options, Ahmad Tea has a range of fruit teas and herbal infusions. These teas are naturally caffeinefree and made with real fruit pieces and herbs, ensuring a rich, vibrant flavor. Popular varieties include apple, peach, and lemon, as well as blends like chamomile and mint. These are perfect for those looking for a soothing drink at any time of day, and especially before bed. The brand also offers decaffeinated versions of its most popular black and green teas, ensuring that customers can enjoy their favorite teas without the caffeine.

In addition to its everyday teas, Ahmad Tea offers a range of gift items that feature their signature teas in elegant packaging. These make perfect gifts for tea enthusiasts, combining the luxury of Ahmad Tea with beautiful presentation. Their tea collections and assortments are popular choices, offering a variety of blends in one package. These gift sets highlight Ahmad Tea’s commitment to providing both quality and a luxurious experience.

Premium and Accessible Luxury: Elegant Packaging and Affordable Prices

Ahmad Tea prides itself on offering a product that is both premium and accessible. While the quality of the tea is on par with some of the most exclusive brands, Ahmad Tea is committed to making its products affordable for a wide range of customers. This combination of high quality and reasonable pricing makes Ahmad Tea a unique brand in the tea industry. It’s a brand that offers accessible luxury, without the price tag.

One of the hallmarks of Ahmad Tea is its elegant packaging. Each creation is thoughtfully designed to reflect the premium quality of the tea inside. Whether it’s the classic tins that evoke a sense of British tradition or the sleek, modern boxes for their fruit and herbal teas, the packaging is designed to enhance the overall tea-drinking experience. Ahmad Tea believes that presentation matters, and their packaging reflects the care and attention to detail that goes into every blend.

Ahmad Tea is a brand that has earned its place as a leader in the tea industry through its

dedication to quality, craftsmanship, and heritage. From its expertly blended teas to its elegant packaging, Ahmad Tea offers an experience that is both luxurious and accessible. Whether you’re a seasoned tea drinker or new to the world of tea, Ahmad Tea has something to offer, ensuring that every cup is a moment of pleasure and comfort.

Determined to return to her small town home one last time before leaving for good, Jasper doesn’t bank on accidentally ruining her sister’s engagement - or bumping into her teen adversary, budding filmmaker Arthur Lancaster. Jasper came back to Lake Pristine for one to say goodbye. But during the holidays, old relationships come to light, small-town tensions rise, and a certain brooding film buff starts to look like a very big reason to stay. Can Jasper decide what she wants from Arthur, and from Lake Pristine, before she leaves them both forever?

PRINCE OF GLASS AND MIDNIGHT

Ever since the death of his mother, Prince August of Charmant has sworn off love. Now with only a few months until he inherits the throne, August is unable to delay conversations of marriage any longer. But news of a magical memory curse plaguing a nearby village—the same village he used to spend his summers with his mother— offers August a reprieve. He convinces his father to give him one week to lead the royal investigation before returning to the palace for good. Despite feeling relief, August dreads confronting his own bittersweet memories of the village, his mother, and Ella, the childhood friend he hasn’t spoken to in nearly six years. But maybe the best person to help him restore the town’s memories is the girl he hasn’t been able to forget.

SIDE QUEST

With a meld of history, fantasy, and memoir, Side Quest: A Visual History of Roleplaying Games gives existing fans of tabletop roleplaying games (TTRPGs) insight into the history of the medium—and provides a gateway for anyone new to the phenomenon. The creators, Steenz and Samuel Sattin, narrate the book, switching between personal stories about their RPG experiences and concrete information that reveals the fascinating and often little-known history of these games. (Did you know that H. G. Wells created an RPG in the early 1900s? You will soon, along with so much more!)

REVENGE OF THE TIPPING POINT

In the first of the book’s three intertwining essays, Coates, on his first trip to Africa, finds himself in two places at once: in Dakar, a modern city in Senegal, and in a mythic kingdom in his mind. Then he takes readers along with him to Columbia, South Carolina, where he reports on his own book’s banning, but also explores the larger backlash to the nation’s recent reckoning with history and the deeply rooted American mythology so visible in that city—a capital of the Confederacy with statues of segregationists looming over its public squares. Finally, in the book’s longest section, Coates travels to Palestine, where he sees with devastating clarity how easily we are misled by nationalist narratives, and the tragedy that lies in the clash between the stories we tell and the reality of life on the ground.

THE POWER OF PEARL DROPS

Channeling that winning smile, every single time

Sometimes, all it takes is flashing a pearly smile to make or break those key moments in life. A winning smile often emits confidence, warmth, and approachability. Smiling confidently is not just a physical expression, as it manifests success, changes perceptions, and fosters positive social interactions. Wherever you are, at home or work, just remember to bring along a dazzling smile to energize every moment.

There’s a distinct science behind the elusive winning smile, and having a great oral care routine at home that works for you is key. Every journey begins with a single step, and with Pearl Drops by your side, you’ll swiftly be well on your way toward smiling with success.

But first, we need to get down to basics. Prioritizing dental care is essential not just for health, but also for cultivating self-confidence and overall life satisfaction. Don’t delay scheduling regular dental check-ups, as poor oral health is deeply connected to overall physical health, influencing energy levels, sleep quality, and even heart health. Poor dental care can set off a chain reaction, leading to exhaustion from gum disease, low energy, and concerns about serious health risks. These physical challenges often impact confidence and overall well-being, creating a cycle where poor health diminishes self-esteem, further affecting mental and emotional health.

Equally important is checking in with yourself. Yes, you may sport a perfect pearly white smile on the outside, but true confidence starts within— challenge negative self-talk, celebrate your strengths, and embrace authenticity. Remember,

your smile is more than aesthetics; it’s a reflection of your well-being.

And to ensure that you’re taking care of your smile at home, Pearl Drops is your best friend. The brand’s extensive range of clinically and consumerproven professional whitening solutions will give you that confidence booster you’ve been missing. Backed by science, incredible quality, and results to back up the brand’s claim, Pearl Drops will help you achieve the best possible self that’s true to you. From Hollywood white to natural white, you can choose a teeth-whitening journey that is an authentic reflection of your true self, and this is why Pearl Drops promises to deliver the perfect shade of white that works for you.
