The BBB’s history dates back to 1912 making it one of the most successful nonprofit organizations in the U.S. Originally, the BBB started out as “Vigilance Committees” of Advertising Clubs, established to correct abuses in advertising. They very quickly broadened their function to monitor other marketplace activities and business performance. Today, there are 112 Better Business Bureaus in the U.S. and Canada. Each BBB is responsible for monitoring businesses that are headquartered in its region.
