For the travellers who can’t get enough...
LAOS A BACKPACKERS DREAM A land shrouded in mystery for eons, Laos has opened its doors in recent years to tourism. This South-East Asian country is a destination filled with stunning natural beauty, golden Buddhist temples, and a unique and preserved culture. It’s in Laos where you’ll find an abundance of mountains, waterfalls, rivers and countryside all just waiting to be explored. Despite its culture being relatively in tact the tourism that has flooded the region in recent years has seen a small influx of modern culture injected into their society. Throughout its capital city of Vientiane, and its smaller cities as well as the small hill-tribe villages a quiet pace of life has reigned supreme and kept time relatively still compared with the rest of the world. Today you will still see boys and men shepherding water buffalo as well as farmers shifting produce via makeshift carriages and tractors. The peaceful Buddhist religion is also something that has remained in Laos and on any visit to Laos you’ll see the daily rituals of the Buddhist culture. Should you be planning a trip to Laos then we suggest embarking on a group tour. The benefits of this include being safe within a group,
not missing out on any of the premier tourist destinations and of course travelling with like minded people to want to explore this incredible country. With so much to see and do, you will want to ensure you have plenty of time. Free And Easy Traveller offer both 25 - 50 day tours that will combine a tour of Laos along with seeing the sights of neighbouring countries such as Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines. During your visit to Laos you’ll start off in the city of Luang Prabang, it’s here that you’l see the stunning golden temples and the French architecture. You’ll also witness the great Mekong River as well as thousands of saffron robed Buddhist monks that live in Luang Prabang. You will also head deep into the Laos jungle where you’ll be surrounded by soaring limestone cliffs, stunning rice terraces and more at the town of Vang Vieng. Interestingly Vang Vieng has been known to throw some of the craziest parties living dubiously outside of the strict Laos law. It’s here that you can also take a picturesque kayaking session down the Nam Song river.

RIO DE JANEIRO
Discover hidden cultural treasures
Rio de Janeiro is one of the most seductive and charming places on earth, and with the Olympics just around the corner, the city has never been so lively. Visitors to this tropical urban paradise will find an extraordinary array of things to do, and there is something to suit the desires of every traveller.
Glistening sunbaked sands shadowing the shoreline, stunning panoramic vistas from atop Sugar Loaf Mountain, the iconic artdeco statue of Christ the Redeemer, exquisite belle époque palaces, and a dizzying sambafuelled nightlife – for most cities, this would be enough to satisfy the senses, but in Rio de Janeiro, you have barely scratched the surface. In the hands of Rdj4u and their W anderlust Package, you can delve deeper into the city’s cultural and societal fabric and discover some wonderful hidden treasures. Here’s what you can enjoy:
Tijuca Rainforest Jeep Tour
Enchanting. Tranquil. Sublime. Take an open top jeep ride through the verdant wonders of Tijuca Rainforest and learn all about the local ecosystems in the company of an expert guide. Travellers are often surprised to hear that this vibrant, luxuriant labyrinth of flora and fauna was completely replanted by hand in the late 19th century, and it is now all that remains of the Atlantic jungle that formerly consumed Rio de Janeiro. On a tour of Tijuca with Rdj4u, a collection of natural and cultural delights await: soak in the spectacular cascading waters of Cachoeira dos Macacos; visit the legendary Mesa do Imperador where Dom Pedro II would once take his court for picnics; and gaze at some spellbinding, uninterrupted views from Vista Chinesa. Astonishing beauty to be found in every direction.
A Trip to Rocinha Favela
Brazil’s rich cultural heritage largely emanated from the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, and they have always been a hotbed of talented artisans and musicians. The original sounds and rhythms of samba were born here, and the mesmerising spectacle of Carnival is organised and refined on the streets of these neighbourhoods. For decades, the impoverished mountainside district of Rocinha was altogether off limits, but today the situation is much improved and the local residents openly embrace tourism. Immensely informative, socially enlightening, and entirely safe – this R ocinha Favela Tour offers travellers a truly unique opportunity to gain a better understanding of the city, and uncover an alternative Brazilian reality beyond the landmark attractions.
Angra Dos Reis & Ilha Grande Day Tour or Buzios Day Tour from Rio
If you need to relax and unwind following a few days of nonstop exploration and adventure, Rdj4u has two very attractive options: mini getaways to either I lha Grande or B uzios. Combining the sights of Rio with one of these idyllic tours will further enrich your trip, and ensure you leave Brazil having experienced the full spectrum of local lifestyles. Each destination offers the same temptations – golden white beaches and warm turquoise blue coastal waters. They are both paradise on earth. Rio de Janeiro is simply a treat for intrepid travellers and Rdj4u offers authentic experiences aplenty. SURF EUROPE’S BEST WAVES Imagine spending your next holiday chasing some of Europe’s best waves, sitting around camp with a group of friends from all over the world, and falling asleep under the stars only to do it all over again the next day... Does this sound like your kind of trip? If so then Stoke Travel’s Van Surfari Spain & France is the trip for you. The Van Surfari runs all summer long from June to mid- September roaming throughout the famous Basque Country of northern Spain and southern France. For 70 euros per day you’ll not only find yourself in some of Europe’s most well known (and secret) surf breaks, but it also includes three home-cooked and delicious meals, all the surf gear you’ll need to tear it up in the water, camping accommodation, and a seat in the famous Surfari Van named “Bluey”! Plus unlimited beer and sangria for €10 per night. We had the chance to catch up with Emily Rathmanner, an American surfer and travel blogger, working on the trip for an insight of what the Van Surfari looks like. “My day normally starts by waking up and cooking up a mean, fulfilling breakfast for the customers and crew,” highlighted Emily. “Imagine eggs benedict, corn fritters, or banana pancakes plus tea and coffee for some added energy and some
good jams to get everyone pumped up for the day. “We throw on our board shorts and bikinis, pile the boards in the Bluey the van, and hit the road to see where the waves are breaking best. Whether you’re a beginner or expert surfer, we will find the perfect break for you! We even offer lessons for those new to the sport, and plenty of beers for those who need some liquid confidence... “Once we’re on the beach, maybe Hossegor in France or Zarautz in Spain, customers spend their time surfing, playing beach (and drinking) games, and soaking up that sweet Vitamin D! Don’t forget the tasty and local lunches, too. “Slowly, the sun starts to set, and we either get comfy at camp playing card games and getting to know each other or hitting up the closest town for an inside look into the local party scene. It’s the perfect combination of party, chill, and fun. Nothing but good vibes on the Van Surfari so get your board or grab on of ours and get stoked!”

THE STEINS ARE CALLING
Like beer and experiencing new cultures? Then don’t miss this year’s Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. Thousands of people flock to Munich every year to taste some of Germany’s best beer in what is the world’s largest public festival. For 200 years
a 3-week party has descended upon the city of Munich to toast the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig & Princess Therese. It’s so big that last year 7.7 million litres of beer was consumed. As is tradition at the beginning of the festival, the mayor taps the first keg to get proceedings going, effectively taking a swig before anyone else is allowed to and once that’s done the festivities begin. The 16-day event (which actually starts on September 17th), rather than in October as you might have assumed, offers a range of local and foreign cuisine as well as all the Bavarian beer your liver can handle. There are also fairground rides and rollercoasters if you haven’t consumed too much beer already. Our advice is to go on these first before you’ve drank too much otherwise it’s definitely an accident waiting to happen.
Why not also get into the spirit by dressing up in the classic lederhosen outfits and partaking in a Bavarian dance? You may think you look stupid but you won’t care after the amount of beer you’ll be drinking daily, plus, the locals will love you for it. Munich has also, unsurprisingly, got a huge concentration of lively pubs and bars, including some of the biggest beer gardens in the world, so if the beer tents and spilled beer is all getting a bit much for you then chill out in one of the city’s watering holes and experience how the locals
drink on a daily basis. So get ready for some pork knuckles, chicken schnitzel, Würst (sausages), Reiberdatschi (potato pancakes) and pretzels and prepare to clink your Stein whilst saying “Prost!” (cheers). Travel to Munich for the year’s Oktoberfest with Travel Talk Tours starting from £233. Find out more at www.traveltalktours.com

OKTOBERFEST Germany’s no.1 beer festival is one cultural celebration to tick off of your bucket list this year! The 16 day beer drinking extravaganza, that is Oktoberfest is held in Munich, Germany every year and is the world’s largest beer festival, where thousands of people from all over the world come to pit their livers and their sanity against some of Germany’s best beers. You’d be forgiven for thinking the festival was run in October, yet it starts on 17th September, only running until the 3rd October – to allow for warmer weather during the event. It’s tradition for the Mayor of Munich to tap the first beer, (essentially opening a barrel) and probably having a damn good swig of it to mark the start of the year’s occasion.
Other non-compulsory rules which will certainly make things more fun (and give you more brownie points with the locals) are dressing in the famous lederhosen attire, and partaking in a classic Bavarian dance. Don’t worry, you won’t care about looking stupid after your tenth stein. We can’t think of a better way to spend September than eating Bratwursts, swilling Steins of beer and having our best shot at pronouncing German Words such as Krunkensvester - that means nurse by the way, and you’ll probably need one after all that beer!

EXPLORE THE WORLD’S LARGEST SAND ISLAND If you’re planning a trip along the East Coast of Australia, then Fraser Island is a must on your itinerary. It’s here where you’ll find the world’s largest sand island sporting a 75 mile long beach - aptly named 75 Mile Beach - as well as a real life shipwreck, dingos, crystal clear lakes and so much more. So what’s the best way to see all that Fraser Island has to offer? Well, we suggest taking a group tour so you don’t miss a thing. On Dropbear Adventures 3 Day tour you can explore at ease as well as experiencing probably the best three days of your life - or at least travels! On Dropbear’s 3 day tour you can either be picked up from Rainbow Beach or Noosa on the mainland. On your first day you’ll arrive on Fraser Island and will spend the morning settling into the Dropbear Wilderness Camp Site, and once that’s done it’s off to do some exploring. You’ll have the pleasure of visiting the gorgeous Lake McKenzie as well as some other lakes and also the stunningly pristine beaches of the Island. Come evening it’s time to kick back on the beach with a beer in hand and get to know your fellow travellers before a classic Aussie BBQ! Sounds idyllic right?
Day 2 sees an early start as you leave camp at 8am to see and experience even more highlights of the Island including; bathing in the bubbling Champagne Pools (a natural jacuzzi on the island), a picture perfect opportunity at the majestic Maheno Ship Wreck (wrecked in 1935 by a cyclone), drive through the towering rainforests and bushland in a 4WD as well as taking to the various beaches and inland tracks in the 4WD. Whilst on the tour you’ll also have the chance to collect and taste Wongs - an Aboriginal delicacy and also indulge in learning the art of Boomerang throwing as well as playing the Didgeridoo! Could it get more Aussie? If you’re planning on visiting Fraser Island between July and November then you may also be lucky enough to spot some Humpback Whales before they migrate back down to the cooler waters of the south with their calves. Due to the weather and tides on Fraser Island it’s important to bear in mind that not all these activities will be available at all times, but if the sun is shining and the tide is right all this awaits you!

A LOCAL’S GUIDE TO CAIRNS
We speak to Marni Barnett from Skyrail Rainforest Cableway to get the low down on the best things to do and explore whilst visiting Tropical North Queensland. Why do you choose to live in TNQ? My family lived in Papua New Guinea and Melbourne before coming to Cairns, they have all since moved on but I chose to stay. I love everything about our tropical region, the surrounding mountains, rainforest, Great Barrier Reef and many islands and sand cays, the beaches, lakes, waterfalls, creeks and the outback all so close to each other. It is seriously a picture perfect place to live with a very comfortable climate year round. What is your favourite activity in the region? Discovering Ancient Tropical Rainforest in the Wet Tropics World Heritage listed area with Skyrail Rainforest Cableway! If you had just 48 hours in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Rainforest what would you recommend? Start your first day with Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, explore Kuranda the village in the rainforest, spend a night on the Atherton Tablelands take an evening animal spotting tour and spend the next day searching for giant fig trees, platypus and scenic views that last for miles and try some fantastic local produce including fresh fruit and vegetables, tea, coffee, cheese and locally made chocolates.
What are you favourite five animals? Cassowary, Possums, Turtles, Dolphins and Whales. What’s the best view point from Skyrail Rainforest Cableway? From Smithfield to Red Peak for the perfect coastal and aquatic view of the rainforest, Cairns and the Coral Sea, at Red Peak you will stand in front of amazing 50 metre tall Kauri Pines, at Barron Falls you will see the majestic Barron Falls which is spectacular year round and lastly before arriving into Kuranda you will have a lovely view above the Barron River (look out for Freshwater Crocodiles and turtles on the river). When is your favourite time of year/season? Winter, it is not your traditional winter here in Cairns, it consists of blue skies and cool afternoons perfect for fish and chips on the beach or backyard barbeques with a fire. What’s your favourite bar/restaurant in Port Douglas? Salsa, it really is the local’s favourite! What’s your favourite bar/restaurant in Cairns? I love the waterfront precinct under Cairns Harbour Lights at the Cairns Marina, you have the choice of Dundees, Ochre and the Boatshed they are my most frequently visited favourites in the city! At Trinity Beach I love Blue Moon Grill for breakfast and dinner or Lunico’s for lunch and sunset cocktails.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT WORKING IN AUSTRALIA Australia is one of the top travel destinations in the world, but it’s also full of employment opportunities. With a thriving economy, high demand for skilled workers and desirable work-life balance, it’s no wonder thousands of people every year apply to work Down Under. See what your chances are with our quick guide to working in Australia.
Visas
There are a number of work visas that permit you to work in Australia from one day to retirement. Temporary visas include the Working Holiday Visa (subclass 417), a one-year visa that allows you to work for any one employer for up to six months while having a holiday in Australia. For something a little longer term, the Temporary Work (Skilled) Visa (subclass 457) is an employer-sponsored visa valid for up to four years. Permanent work visas that will allow you to stay in Australia indefinitely include the Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189) and Employer Nomination Scheme Visa (subclass 186). There are also business visas available for if you’re planning on relocating your current business or starting a new business in Australia.
Skilled Occupation Lists
In many cases, work visas are for skilled individuals only, particularly permanent visas. The occupations that have a high demand for skilled workers can be found on the Skilled Occupation Lists. You must nominate an occupation on the
list in order to be considered and you must be able to provide evidence that you have skills and experience in your chosen occupation. Occupations currently on the Skilled Occupation Lists include Electrical Engineer, Secondary School Teacher, Midwife, Bricklayer, Carpenter, Dental Hygienist and Chef (excluding fast food/ takeaway).
Booming Business
Australia has one of the healthiest economies going with low unemployment and high wages. As a result, living in Australia is considered to be more expensive than the UK, but it’s all relative: high wages, high prices. Industries that are evergrowing in Australia include healthcare, I.T, trades and construction.
Skills Shortage
When employers can’t find permanent residents or citizens qualified enough to fill a job position, they can look overseas and sponsor someone to move to Australia and work for them. Australia is currently experiencing a skills shortage, resulting in a high demand for skilled individuals. If you have the skills that Australia needs, you could be ending 2016 with a new life in Australia…

TRAVELLING SOLO
For many the idea of travelling alone is a problematic one, from the serious issue of ‘stranger danger’ to the more practical concerns of deciding where to go and what to do without anyone else’s input. However, there are many seasoned travellers out there who prefer solo expeditions and believe that if it’s planned the right way, going it alone can be just as rewarding as travelling with friends or family members. So if you’re thinking about tackling Australia by yourself, here are six pointers for a happy, safe, stress-free trip... 1. Scan all documents such as passport, ID and travel insurance and keep them electronically in case of emergencies. It makes more sense than to carry an information file around with you, particularly if you’re embarking on a proper backpacking adventure. 2. Keep in touch with friends and family throughout your journey. It’s good to allow a
little spontaneity into your trip – there’s so much to see and do throughout Oz, so let yourself be side-tracked – but always let someone know where you are through email or phone (it’s cheaper to call home if you get an international phone card).
3. Enjoy walking. With no one pulling you in any specific direction, it’s a good idea to start your journey with a nice long aimless walk through the area
in which you’ve arrived. Explore, check out places of interest, get a feel for your temporary home; you’ll become more relaxed about your holiday as well as your choice to do it alone.
4.
One of the best things about travelling solo is you don’t have to wait for anyone! With that in mind, it’s a good idea to get an early start if you’re planning on visiting a particular holiday hotspot or tourist attraction.
Shipping
You’re never really alone with social media! Like it or not, social media can put you in touch with people instantly, so if you find yourself standing in the middle of Sydney Harbour Bridge with no one to share the experience, you can always tweet or post a selfie and tell the world! Nothing wrong with a little electronic interaction, after all!
6.
Of course, you will be meeting people on your travels all the time! It’s not as if you’ll be shutting down all communication and retreating into your shell whenever someone asks you the time. But the great thing about travelling solo is you can evenly balance out your time between socialising and simply chilling out alone. It’s not a luxury you’re blessed with if you have a constant companion. Wherever you’re travelling in Australia, Seven Seas Worldwide can assist you with your baggage. Visit the website www.sevenseasworldwide.com for a fast, affordable and secure relocation service. We know a thing or two about moving because we’ve been doing it for nearly twenty years.

PREPARING FOR INTERVIEWS Whether you’re are looking for a job on your working holiday visa, or are planning on migrating permanently, recruitment agency people2people can help you. Before making arriving in Australia, it’s a good idea to check out where you can fit into the market. Pre-interview tips Before an interview, it’s important that you project the very best version of you. These tips and hints can ensure you are as prepared as you should be for your interview. Do your homework Look at the company website, names of the people you are meeting, jump on LinkedIn or profiles on the company website. This will give you some more idea of what to expect and the types of people you will be meeting. Confirm details Its sounds obvious, but make sure you know the address and the time you need to be there. Also ensure you allow enough time to get to the interview, although don’t arrive more than 10 minutes before hand. This will put pressure on your interviewer, go for a coffee or walk if you arrive too early (but please don’t smoke!). Research the role Ensure you have thoroughly read the job description and what would be expected of you. You need to be able to demonstrate that the skills you have developed relate to the job on offer. Questions to ask Prepare questions to ask at the end of the interview with regards to the working culture of the company and the team, why did your interviewers join the company originally? Most importantly, BE YOURSELF, this is all about you after all!
Be prepared for ‘behavioural or competency based questions’ All companies will vary in their approach, however the same principal applies in answering behavioural based questions. Set the scenario, the action YOU took and the outcome. The question should be answered in the first person, such as I not WE. You need to explain some specific examples of your work experience and relate that back to the question. Talking about your own experiences should put you at ease. Know your CV Be clear on dates you worked with your employers and be ready to talk about any interests you have included. This helps them form a picture of the ‘whole’ person, not just the job filler. Know your strengths and weaknesses Be prepared to give examples and ALWAYS have a weakness! Turn the weakness into a positive, how you are improving, for example you are working on your Excel skills by taking online courses. Dress Code This can vary depending on the company for which you are interviewing, so dress accordingly. However if in doubt, always opt for a corporate style with a well groomed and tailored appearance. Browse available jobs and more tips at people2people.com.au

MIGRATION AGENTS WHY DO I NEED ONE?
Most potential migrants are unaware of just how expensive it is to migrate to Australia. When hit by a $7000 visa-processing fee on top of travel, document verification and many other hidden costs, hiring a migration agent is the last thing on their minds. However, submitting an application without professional help is probably one of the worst mistakes a visa applicant can make. Not only is the process very complex and difficult, getting it wrong the first time will impact the success of any follow up applications. Whether you are looking at applying for a visa or have a loved one who is, check out the information below on why using a migration agent is the right way to go:
What is a migration agent?
A migration agent is a person who has been licensed and registered as a professional who can help give prospective visa applicants advice or who can help represent them as they file their visa application.
What can a migration agent do for you?
• Give you information as to the types of visas, which are available for you to stay temporarily or permanently in Australia. • Assess the facts and circumstances of your individual case to see if you have the necessary eligibility requirements to apply for a visa. • Help you obtain documents and fill out forms for submission • Inform you of the legal remedies available to you in case your visa application is refused • Refer you to lawyers who can help you with the legal aspects of appealing the refusal of your visa application
Can I trust a migration agent?
Migration agents have a duty to keep your confidential information and not to disclose them unless it is with your knowledge and consent and disclosure is in your best interest.
What difficulties may I encounter when dealing with a migration agent?
A migration agent may have many clients and so the migration agent may be under a lot of time pressure to meet deadlines and to see and confer with clients. They may not always be available for face-to-face meetings and so you will have to contact them through email or their mobile phone. This may be difficult for some people. Migration agents may have specializations: You must find a migration agent who specializes in the kind of visa you want to obtain so that you can be assured of the migration’s experience and expertise. Migration agents are under a contract for services and so they will charge a professional fee for their services. This is on top of the fees for filing the application and other fees for obtaining copies, verifying and translating documents. This professional fee is also on top of any fees for any assessments for your health, character and skills, which you may need in support of your visa application.
How can I tell which migration agent to trust?
• They will have a valid license. • Have an office with a street address and landline phone number. • Will not insist that you pay his or her fees up front prior to rendering any services. • Will set up a trust fund for the expenses incurred in connection with your visa application • Will send you a statement of account and report to you how the trust fund was utilised • Will not promise you that you will get the visa you applied for. • Will not promise that he or she will contact persons in the immigration office to ensure that your visa application is granted.
