BBM RECOMMENDS:

Al Fresco Dining It’s September, which means it’s officially spring, and the following restaurants are the perfect place to celebrate. The Boathouse Balmoral

Located on Balmoral Beach, you can’t get closer to the water than at The Boathouse without getting wet. Providing coffee, juice, wine and beer, the breakfast and lunch menus are all about the local touch with a seaside edge from the trout board to the beer battered flathead and bucket of prawns. If you like what you see, there’s a shop selling accessories and homewares for that Boathouse touch. 2 The Esplanade, Balmoral Beach www.theboathousebb.com.au

The Bucket List

Where better to go when the sun comes out than Bondi? A bar and eatery, The Bucket List encompasses everything that we love about this beachside suburb with large outdoor seating, bursts of colour, burgers, cocktails and the best possible views of the beach. Got a special event coming up? You can hire out the entire venue or individual sections for a party to remember. Come one afternoon and you might just stay all summer… The Bondi Pavilion, Queen Elizabeth Drive, Bondi Beach www.thebucketlistbondi.com

The Grounds Of Alexandria

Whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner, The Grounds Of Alexandria is very popular – probably because you walk out of the inner city and into a country garden filled with potted flowers, hanging baskets and shrubs. There are a few areas to relax and eat, including the Garden that grows much of the produce used in the kitchen. 7A, 2 Huntley Street, Alexandria www.thegrounds.com.au

MELBOURNE

Tour Melbourne’s Art Bars Melbourne is probably most famous for two things: its bars and its creative arts. With Melbourne City Sightseeing, take a tour of the artistic bars that combine the two in the city and St Kilda.

The Butterfly Club

Workshop

A celebration of Melbourne’s street culture, Workshop supports local talents in music, film, art, fashion and more by showcasing them in an excellent space. Music ranges from EDM to acoustic guitar, and previous art exhibitions have included photography, stencil and watercolour. You can enjoy the arts with bar food, craft beer and cocktails from mid-morning ‘til late, seven days a week. 413 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne Stop 8 on the City Tour

The Croft Institute

Where creative heads go for launch nights, film screenings and photo shoots, The Croft Institute is an ideal location for the arts thanks to its play of light and dark, architecture and décor across multiple levels. From the groundfloor science lab to the first-floor girls and boys’ loos and the second floor gym – which welcomes DJs and dancing on weekends – you might even be too distracted to order a cocktail. Maybe. 21 Croft Alley, Melbourne Stop 12 on the City Tour

12

www.bbmlive.com

Double Happiness

With a mix of delicate wallpaper prints and Chinese Communist propaganda, Double Happiness is a vision washed down with an espresso martini. A laneway bar with an edgy, Oriental charm, there’s even hip-hop background music, which just makes it a winner in our eyes. 21 Liverpool Street, Melbourne Stop 12 on the City Tour

29th apartment

Dedicated to the memory of Katishe, the struggling artist who went missing the ‘80s, this casual gallery and bar evokes a ‘60s New York apartment with ease. Vinyl records fill the bookcases, posters cover the red brick walls, a retro TV plays classic films like Breakfast At Tiffany’s and a graffiti-covered alleyway leads patrons to the toilets – think Holly Golightly meets Andy Warhol. 29 Fitzroy Street, St Kilda Stop 4 on the St Kilda Tour Take a tour of Melbourne’s art bars with Melbourne City Sightseeing and choose from a 24-hour, 48hour and unlimited annual bus pass to make your way around the city. What's happening in

Darwin

Markets

With influence from Asia and Aboriginal Australia, the markets in Darwin are a sight of colourful fruit and veg, local crafts and Indigenous art, combined with a buzzing atmosphere amongst the crowd and the aroma of spices and filling the air. Mindil Beach Sunset Markets is one of the most popular on Thursday and Sunday between April and October, but Nightcliff Markets, Parap Markets and The Rapid Creek Markets run year-round.

Crocs

Darwin and the Top End is where crocs are king. The longest-surviving resident in the Northern Territory, you can see freshwater and saltwater crocodiles during numerous experiences in and around Darwin. A cruise on Darwin Harbour or the Adelaide River gives you a look at them in the wild, but Crocosaurus Cove on Mitchell Street provides the most interactive (and scary!) experience with the Cage Of Death, which sees visitors lowered inside a cylinder into an enclosure with a 5-metre saltwater croc.

Images courtesy of Pee Wee’s, Darwin Markets, Museum & Gallery of the Noerthern Territory

Balmy weather, eclectic cuisine and outdoor culture all year round, here are the top things to see in Darwin, Australia’s tropical northern city.

The Waterfront

A city on Australia’s north coast, much of what happens in Darwin happens on the waterfront. Fresh and relatively new, the waterfront is where you can find an abundance of restaurants and shops, meet friends for a casual coffee, cool off with a swim in the lagoons or chill out in the park with a picnic. The waterfront is connected to the city by the Sky Bridge offers panoramic views of both and beyond.

Art

Art is everywhere in Darwin. From Aboriginal art galleries to modern art in small spaces, it showcases the region’s artworks perfectly. A broad overview of local art can be found at the Museum and Gallery of the Northern Territory, while Aboriginal Fine Arts Gallery displays paintings, ancient carvings, hand-woven baskets and carvings. For an even closer look at Aboriginal art, visit the Tiwi Islands or Kakadu National Park, where rock engravings have laid for thousands of years.

want to work behind a bar in oz? You’ll need an rsa for that. As it’s not required in the UK, the Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) can come as a bit of a shock to visitors to Australia. If you’re yet to even find out what it is or have some unanswered questions about your own, here’s all you need to know about the RSA.

What is the RSA?

RSA is the Responsible Service of Alcohol, a oneday course required by law for anyone working in licensed premises where alcohol is served. Those that do the RSA are taught about legal responsibilities, harm minimisation, spotting fake IDs and recognising signs of intoxication. What it doesn’t teach you is how to pour a pint or make a Margarita.

Who is it for?

The RSA course is relevant to anyone who has contact with patrons on licensed premises, such as bar staff, courtesy and security staff, waiters, concierge, front door and reception staff, so whether you are working in a hotel, pub, club or restaurant, you will require an RSA.

How do I prove that I have my RSA? If you have completed the RSA in New South Wales, you will be given an Interim Certificate

from the training organisation (valid for 90 days), which will allow you to work for a short period of time following your completion of the course. Within the 90 days, you will need to apply for your Photo Competency Card to continue working. Other states provide paper certificates.

Does the RSA expire?

In NSW, the Photo Competency Cards expire five years after completing your first course. To continue working, you must renew your training by attending/completing an approved course every five years to keep it current.

Does the RSA guarantee I’ll get a job? No. Nothing and no one can guarantee you a job. The RSA makes you legal and therefore employable to serve alcohol. If you’re new to Australia and need some practical experience working behind a bar, you can take the Bar Skills and Cocktail Skills Course with BarMax, which will make you even more employable. You can now do the Cocktail Skills Course with 30% off when you mention BBMAUS, making it $84

instead of $120.

Visit www.barmax.com.au or call 1300 139 233 to book your RSA now!

The MoveCube® – The Future of Moving? Whether you’ve decided to stay in Australia and need to move your belongings over, or your stay Downunder is up and it’s time to move back home, Seven Seas Worldwide are the helping hand you’ll need. There are two transport options open to us when moving. We can either go for the man and his van or plump for the big reliable courier company. There are positives and negatives for both these options. It’s reassuring to have a friendly face turn up at your door who’ll just get on with the job once they’ve got a hot beverage inside them. Although their van looks like it’s seen better days, right? Plus there’s a lot of lifting and carrying to do for just one person. Then you’ve got the big courier company who move tens of thousands of items worldwide in cargo containers, all day, every day. Okay perhaps they’re not as personable but they might be more dependable. But then again, isn’t a big faceless corporation a lot more difficult to communicate with if anything were to happen to your shipment? It’s a tricky one but we think we have the answer. International freight shipping is a very complex business so relocation experts Seven Seas 32

www.bbmlive.com

Worldwide have tried their best to make the process of moving stuff from A to B as simple as possible. That’s where their MoveCube® service comes in. The MoveCube® is a mini-freight container designed to be carried on a trailer and parked outside your house or apartment block. All you need to do is load it with strong and well-labelled boxes and wait until Seven Seas Worldwide redeliver it to the door of your new address. It’s as simple as that. With the MoveCube®, you have the best of both worlds - a man with a van (or woman, of course) and a reliable furniture removals service. The MoveCube® comes in three sizes, so if you’re a minimalist, you should check out the small MoveCube®; if you own a single apartment, you’ll probably be better-suited to the medium MoveCube®; and if you have a family or you just like collecting enormous heavy things, then the large MoveCube® will be more your bag. These mini-freight containers are the way forward when it comes to moving - they’re strong, sturdy, safe and designed for international shipping. With the MoveCube® service, Seven Seas Worldwide have created a more friendly approach so contact a member of the team today to find out more or visit the MoveCube® page on the Seven Seas Worldwide website.

TAX INFO

The Need To Know Facts Of Aussie Tax If you’ve paid tax at any time while in Australia, you need to submit a tax return. You could also be entitled to a tax refund. To help you with the ins and outs of it all, here are our top tips on Australian tax. Claiming Income Tax

When you start paying tax at the resident rate after six months, you may be able to claim a refund on the tax you paid as a non-resident. This is money that you’re owed and entitled to, so it’s important not to leave it. To find out if your circumstances entitle you to a tax refund, you can speak to a tax agent.

Claiming Your Superannuation

In Australia, superannuation is a retirement fund, like a state pension. A percentage of your salary is put aside as superannuation and can’t be touched until you retire – or, until you leave Australia. If you’re not staying in Australia, you can apply to release your superannuation as soon as you leave Australia and your visa has expired.

Claiming The Medicare Levy

Some foreign citizens are exempt from paying the Medicare levy, the taxpayer-funded health scheme for Australians, for which 2% is paid from taxable income. If you’re exempt from paying the levy, you need an exemption letter, which will increase your tax refund. Not sure if you’re exempt? Ask a tax agent about the Medicare levy exemption. 34

www.bbmlive.com

Include Your Bank Interest

Make sure you include your bank account interest in your annual tax return to ensure your refund is not delayed.

Claiming Work Expenses

Minimise your tax or increase your tax refund by claiming work expenses. These should be directly related to your job while in Australia, so what you can claim back on depends on what job you are doing. Expenses include any tools, equipment, work uniform or courses fully paid for by you, not your employer. You should remember to keep your receipts for any expenses you want to claim.

Find Out Your Tax Residency

How much your tax refund will amount to determines on whether you’re a resident or nonresident. If you’ve been in Australia for less than six months on a temporary visa, you will pay the non-resident tax rate. If you’ve worked six months or more, you’ll pay the resident tax rate. The tax rate for non-residents is higher, but this is why claiming it back is so important!

Submitting Your Tax Return

You need to submit a tax return if you’ve paid tax while you’ve been in Australia. The Australian financial year runs from 1st July – 30th June and you must submit your tax return by 31st October.

Discover NSW’s Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains are called so not because the trees have turned a funny colour, but because of the blue haze that forms when oil from the Eucalyptus trees mixes with dust particles and water vapour in the atmosphere to create blue rays of light. On a day trip to the Blue Mountains, you can take a boardwalk stroll through the lush rainforest while learning about Aboriginal Dreamtime stories, but you shouldn’t miss an opportunity to marvel at the famous Three Sisters. Legend has it, these three standing peaks named Meehni, Wimlah and Gunnedoo, were sisters who were frozen in stone during an ancient battle over love. Echo Point is the designated viewing platform to appreciate the imposing nature of these rocks, as well as the distant view of Sydney. If the sight of the Three Sisters and surrounding Blue Mountains from Echo Point doesn’t satisfy your inner traveller urges, Scenic World offers even more experiences of this fantastic area. Take the skyway and view the mountains below from 38

mid-air, stroll through ancient rainforest on the walkway, sit in the steepest aerial cable car in the Southern Hemisphere or ride the scenic railway and travel along the steepest incline passenger railway in the world. Due to the attraction of the Blue Mountains, there are dozens of tour companies providing different experiences, so whatever you’re looking for, you’ll find something to suit you. From eco tours to hop-on hop-off coach tours, and mystery tours to adventure activities, you can really get to the heart of this beautiful area. Ride through the high country on horseback, jump inside a 4WD and traverse the bumpy territory, swing and climb between treetops and abseil down sandstone cliffs and dramatic waterfalls – the options are endless! A beautiful destination, a day trip just might not be long enough in the Blue Mountains, and if you can’t bring yourself to leave, there’s an array of accommodation to choose from. Suiting all budgets, there’s everything from luxury resorts and romantic retreats to cosy B&Bs and welcoming farm stays. While costs may differ, one thing’s for sure: you’ll enjoy an amazing stay within the Blue Mountains with its natural beauty right on your doorstep. Find more things to do in and around Sydney at

Explore NSW’s Hidden Gems With Sydney Outback Tours With its Opera House and thriving restaurant scene, you wouldn’t think Sydney had so much natural beauty, but just a short drive is one of the most beautiful areas of New South Wales: Kuring-gai Chase National Park.

One thing that you can’t miss about the park is its waterways. Containing the Hawkesbury River, Pittwater and Cowan Water, as well as countless creeks and coves, it’s the perfect place to make a splash. Enjoy the winding waterways on a boat cruise with Sydney Outback, or just admire the view with a waterfront picnic. Speaking of views, Ku-ring-gai Chase has plenty. Breath-taking sights overlooking Broken Bay, Lion Island, Palm Beach, Pittwater and the Central Coast are available on a bushwalk where you can also discover rock art dating back thousands of years. Don’t be surprised if you get kangaroos and

wallabies vying for your attention – Ku-ring-gai Chase is also a wildlife paradise with even Skippy the Bush Kangaroo calling it home. Despite all of this, possibly the best thing about Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park is its easy access, which is why it’s so popular with Sydney locals. Just a 45-minute drive from Sydney CBD, this land and water haven is ideal for a morning jog with a difference, a picnic lunch surrounded by nature, or a day out exploring. Choose the latter and spend the day with Sydney Outback on the Wilderness and Aboriginal Explorer Tour and Cruise. For $199pp, you explore the park by foot and catamaran, learning about the history of the park while seeing it with your own eyes. There’s really nothing quite like it. Book your tour of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park at www.sydneyoutback.com.au

There’s so much to be said about this park, it’s hard to know where to begin. The second oldest national park in Australia, it holds the world’s most concentrated collection of Aboriginal Heritage sites – over 1,000 – and can take you back to a time before Sydney even existed. Untouched, unspoilt, preserved and protected, Ku-ring-gai Chase boasts many beauty spots, so if you’re looking for some natural beauty while in Sydney, you won’t be disappointed…

Day Trips from Port Douglas If you’re going up to Tropical North Queensland soon, Port Douglas is the ideal place to make your base. Not only is it drop dead gorgeous, it’s nearby many attractions that make for the perfect day trip. Here are just a few suggestions on where to go from this beautiful beachside town. Day Dives On The Great Barrier Reef

Port Douglas is one of the nearest mainland locations to the Great Barrier Reef, and as a result, there are many snorkel and dive companies based here that will take you for a full day or overnight on the reef. Packages and costs can vary depending on what you want, but you’re looking at around $230pp for a full day on the reef, including lunch and equipment.

A Journey Into The Daintree Rainforest

On the edge of Tropical North Queensland, Port Douglas is also the starting point for many inland tours to the Daintree Rainforest. From hiking to four-wheel-driving, highlights can include the Mossman Gorge, Cape Tribulation, Bloomfield Falls and Daintree River, where you can get off the road and take a cruise. The rainforest is where you can spot many of Australia’s tropical species, such as crocodiles, lizards, turtles, butterflies and birds, including the extraordinary Cassowary.

A City Escape To Cairns

Just one hour’s drive south of Port Douglas is Cairns. It’s basically Port Douglas on a bigger scale, with a tropical culture, palm tree-fringed beaches and festivals galore. If you miss the buzz of a city, take advantage of the many restaurants and bars, head to the dance floor and shop ‘til

your feet fall off. If you have a car, you can get to Cairns and back no problem, or you can book a transfer on the Port Douglas Bus.

Go High In The Sky In Kuranda

A mountain retreat in the Atherton Tableland area of the Cairns Highlands, Kuranda begs you to go high, whether on the scenic railway or cable skyrail, to get to it. Through the mountains and over rivers, this rainforest village is a journey to get to, but it’s worth it once you experience the markets, relaxed culture and laidback village life of Kuranda. Wherever you decide to go, return to Port Douglas from your day trips to comfort and style at United Backpackers Port Douglas. Situated in the heart of town, 5 minutes from 4 Mile Beach, this recently-opened accommodation features comfy beds in dorms or private rooms, with super soft bedding, air-conditioning and swipe card access for convenience and security. If you’ve not got any activities planned – no worries – because there’s plenty here to help you pass the time, including an outdoor pool, a pop-up cinema, bikes, a TV lounge, a bar and BBQs. To make day trips even easier, United also provide a free shuttle from Cairns when you stay for three nights or longer. With great rates, it might just make you hang around a bit longer… Take the first step and visit

Turtle Season on Heron Island

Top Tips for Turtle Watching • To find a turtle, simply walk along Heron Beach one or two hours after the evening’s high tide. Look for tracks in the sand to see where the turtles have come in from the ocean. • Light can disturb and disorient the turtles, so always minimize the use of torches and make sure they’re 3-volt low-impact torches. • Don’t use flash photography. • When you see a turtle moving up or down the beach stay as still as possible. Excessive movement can upset the turtles. • Never walk in front of a turtle, always walk behind them. • Do not try and approach the turtles. If they feel threatened they will retreat to the sea and not lay their eggs. • If you come across a turtle digging out her nest, give her some room. Sit down quietly behind the turtle at least 10 metres away. Once she has finished digging, wait at least 15 minutes then you may approach from behind. • The turtles can be quite stressed and tired after a night of digging and laying their eggs so always be sure to not get too close (10 metres is close enough) so as not to panic them.

Escape the hustle and bustle of city life and delve deep into this island paradise filled to the brim with natural beauty and an abundance of marine life. Heron Island is a stunning coral cay situated 89km off of the coast of Queensland. The island is the perfect long weekend away for those who want rid of the buzz of mobile phones and lethargy of television and really experience a relaxing island getaway on the Great Barrier Reef. Heron Island is small enough to walk around the entire island in just 20 minutes, and with a no-day-trippers rule, this guest-only island means you won’t be crowded in and battling to find a spot for your towel on the beach. To reach this tropical arcadia of the Great Barrier Reef you can either take a boat for $60 or travel by seaplane for $338. The exclusivity of the island enables you to escape the tourist trap of other resorts within the Great Barrier Reef. The island features a range of stunning accommodation including private suites, a free-standing beach house, and twin rooms. Each accommodation type features a balcony or terrace, en suite bathrooms, towels, air conditioning, mini bars and more. Most rooms offer ocean views in between the unique vegetation on this plush island. From October to March, Heron Island is brought to life by the annual visit from Loggerhead and Green Turtles making their pilgrimage to breed on the shores of the island. The breeding turtles return some 30 years after hatching in the region, continuing the circle of life.

Heron Island has a resident population of around 4,000 turtles who live on Heron reef, so you can expect to see turtles in the water all year round. In September, more of these giants of the sea flock back to the island to mate and lay clutches of eggs. Hatching usually occurs with the warmer weather from December. You can take full advantage of this magical time of year and make the most of the fantastic savings and inclusions on offer when you book your 3 (or more!) night turtle season holiday, which includes: • Accommodation • Daily Breakfast • 1 snorkel trip • 24 hours free Wi-Fi for 1 device • A special turtle gift (an ornament per room or a t-shirt/turtle backpack for kids) • From $160 per person, per night, based on twin share Book a suite and receive return boat transportation for 2 adults. Better yet, kids stay and eat breakfast for free when using existing bedding configuration. Book at www.heronisland.com

take the leap with southern skydivers With ocean views, the wind in your hair and the feeling of falling up to 15,000ft, a tandem skydive with Southern Skydivers is one of the greatest experiences in Western Australia. A tandem skydive is one of the most rewarding yet terrifying things a person can do, and the decision to fall thousands of feet to Earth is one not to be taken lightly. A once-in-a-lifetime activity, you need to get the location just right, and this is where the southwest coast of WA comes in. With the Indian Ocean on one side and the Margaret River region on the other, if you’re seeking spectacular views, you won’t be disappointed. After a 20-minute flight, you’ll jump out of Southern Skydivers plane over Geography Bay and the Busselton Jetty with Margaret River in the distance, before you land feet first (hopefully! – haha) on the sandy beach to be welcomed by the people you brought with you. rush of a tandem skydive with at least 30 seconds of freefall at 200km per hour. When you’re 5000ft from Earth, your instructor will deploy the parachute and you’ll fall much slower with five minutes to enjoy the scenery around you. The day doesn’t end once you’ve landed back on safe ground; a complimentary glass of wine or beer awaits you at the beachside Goose Café, where you can continue celebrating your skydive, and you can enjoy the beautiful Busselton Jetty with a stroll and an ice cream. The price of the 10,000ft tandem skydive starts at $339pp, while the 14,000ft tandem skydive is at a new discounted price of $399pp, and the 15,000ft tandem skydive is priced at $450pp. You can add handcam and freefall videos and photos at an extra cost if you want to look back at your amazing day in the sky. Kangaroo Island is a wild and intrepid place with so much to discover and see. Whether you’re after nature walks admiring the flora and fauna or want to take the action by the horns and go sand boarding or kayaking, this island has it all. Here we give you an overview of all the amazing things you can do whilst visiting this corner of South Australia. A trip to Kangaroo Island would not be complete without visiting their most famous inhabitants The Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch. These rock formations are the stars of the stunning Flinders Chase National Park, located on the intrepid island off the coast of South Australia. The huge rock formations look almost otherworldly, with their huge, gravity defying mass appearing like an alien form on the horizon. The unusual shape of the rocks is down to the handy work of nature subjecting them to over approximately 500 million years of sea and wind erosion, eating away at their surface to create 62

RUDIMENTAL Having dominated the charts since 2013 with their debut album ‘Home’, Rudimental are back with their sophomore release ‘We The Generation’. Featuring a medley of artists including the late Bobby Womack, Will Heard and up-and-coming vocalist, Mahalia. We caught up with the formidable collective’s Amir Amor inbetween recording sessions to find out more about the new album they will be performing during the Australian leg of their world tour this November and December... Hi Hannah! Hi How are you? I’m good how you doin’? I’m good thank you. So where are you talking to us from? Actually in London, we just came from one studio and we’re going into another studio. Recording at this time - it’s 10pm! Oh yeah always! Cool, so the new album. It’s coming out on 18th Septebmer? Yes, We The Generation. So, I’ve listened to the sampler I got sent. It sounds brilliant! Oh brilliant thank you. 70

www.bbmlive.com

Tell me more about it as I haven’t heard every track that’s on it, so tell us what the concept was behind We The Generation? Yeah so ‘We The Generation’ is a kind of continuation – in a way – of ‘Home’. We carried on writing songs and making music right through the release of that album all the way up until now really. And it’s taken on a more soulful twist. It feels like the best music we’ve written. We’re working so much better with each other, we’ve toured a lot and we’re a lot more comfortable around each other in the studio and all that stuff. So it’s got the same energy and that kind of festival epic moments that we love to do and this time we’ve got the new singers on there – some fresh voices and there’s some legends on there as well like Bobby Womack who we worked with before he passed away. Yeah it’s just full of

INTERVIEWS energy – but I think more soulful this time, and I think the song writing this time is just better. So we can’t wait to get it out there. We’ve been playing the songs live actually for a little while now. Generally we write an idea, then we start playing it out before we even finish it, and we get it back into the studio and tweak it, add bits and take bits away. You know we’ll do something live and be like “Oh that sounded sick, let’s get in the studio and record that.” And we get inspiration from that and we kind of feed off each other.

the people so we asked them to submit loads of photos to us, and there’s some wicked stuff in there. So we’re kind of working on integrating that into an album cover as we speak. It’s an inclusive thing, it’s not about four guys, it’s about the family, the generation, so I think doing something like an album cover that involves a lot of people is interesting.

“We’ve got the rave culture. It’s So last time we spoke, you were where we came saying about how you guys are really involved in the community in London, from!”

As you were saying, you’ve kept those epic moments and you’ve kept that signature sound of brass and beats going. What is it that draws you guys to that sound? What made that become your signature sound? We never go in with a tempo in mind or even any sort of genre or anything like that, sometimes we go in there and we end up making a reggae track or sometimes we go and make a drum and bass track. The thing is with all four of us, we have a really wide range of influences and upbringings, so when we come together we bring in a lot. It can go any directions. With us four there’s a mixture of live instrumentation, electronic, we’ve got the rave culture – as that’s where we came from, the grime, the garage, the drum and bass, but also the soulful vocals and you know, we love the festival. We love the gig and the stage, and we love to perform so what naturally comes through is the energy we bring to it. So when we’re making music it’s quite a collaborative process.

and you obviously nurture up-and-coming talent too. How do you go about finding these new artists? We’ve got a studio in East London where we’ve been based for many years now. And a lot of artists come through, it’s kind of a social area, it’s not a typical recording studio. We have a lot of randomness going on… it kind of just works. I don’t think any of us can put our finger on how we do it.

“AUSTRALIA you’re heading out to Australia IS OUR SECOND So towards the end of the year and you’ve got a few days in between gigs so will you be exploring much? HOME” Yeah, we’ve got a little bit of exploring

I really like what you did on the website with the album cover… With the fans uploading photos? Yeah we don’t really want to be in the limelight and want the music to do the talking, so press images and things like that, there’s a couple but generally we’ve generally been getting inspiration from

You’ve got Mahalia featuring on the title track, how did you come across her? Mahalia was actually introduced to us through our label a couple of years ago and we’ve ended up doing a bunch of tracks together and we’ve performed together as well on Jools Holland. She’s a wicked talent. With Mahalia we managed to write a load of songs and out of it came ‘We The Generation’. It feels like it represents the message of what Rudimental is all about.

time so it would be great to see a bit of the nature of it and explore the people also, you know. We usually get a day off in the places that we visit. We’ve been to Sydney and Melbourne, and you get a little taste of it, and it’s just become one of our favourite places. It literally is our second home. We’re so connected to the scene out there, so we just can’t wait to come back. Like I said, it’s our second home.

STEREOPHonICS

With the release of their ninth studio album on 11th September, Stereophonics’ frontman, Kelly Jones, reveals all on ‘Keep The Village Alive’, returning home and crowd favourites.

the big cities, so I think people in those places do need a little bit of encouragement and support.

So, ninth studio album – do you still have the same passion for music as you did back in your ‘Maybe Tomorrow’ days? Making music is something I’ve been doing since I was 12 years old so the passion doesn’t really change; the challenge is to do the touring and promoting. To make the music and be in a band where we can all still go for a beer, everything’s in a pretty good state.

Is there anything you miss about it when you’ve been away? The main thing I miss about it is how fast the banter is, the sarcasm and the back and forth. Living in London, you can have characters in pubs, but it’s not the same because everyone’s constantly taking the piss out of each other and I could drop five one-liners in a pub in London and it would probably go over everybody’s heads! Back home, everyone picks up on every single one.

You’re such a storyteller in your songwriting; what influences did you have for ‘Keep The Village Alive’? There’s never a running theme with our albums, but I think the main spirit of ‘Keep The Village Alive’ is the statement of the title. It used to be said in the old villages back in Wales when I was kid, which basically means “keep your spirits up when times are tough”. I actually found it in the sleeve notes of our first album, and it reminded me of a certain time. There are lots of small towns all over the world that have been trodden on by 72

www.bbmlive.com

Do you get to go home much? Yeah, I’m going back on Sunday to see my family. I go back as much as I can, but I’ve been living in London for 15 years. We just bounce back and forth whenever we can.

The Stereophonics have so many iconic songs. Is there one that gets the biggest reaction from the crowd? I guess ‘Dakota’ gets a very big reaction; it was a number one single and it transcended in most countries we’ve ever played in – I don’t know why or how – if I had the recipe I’d do it every week! But some songs just connect with people, and whether we play it at a festival or in a club, it just goes off.

Pulled apart by Horses We catch up with Pulled Apart By Horses’ James Brown ahead of their East Coast Tour...

Your music has been described as “manic art-punk convulsion” and “awesome earbending post-hardcore rock”, but how would you describe it? What sound do you strive for when you head into a studio or onto a stage? I can’t really put a title on it or include it within a genre as it’s always changing. It’s definitely guitar music but it’s been hardcore, punk, disco, but essentially if you did need to coin a phrase it would have to be alternative rock. But that sounds boring so I’ll say exploding prick punk pop. We don’t strive for anything on a stage or studio, we literally just do what feels natural to us which is why we’re still together now and enjoying it, I guess. Once you start pinning hopes on conveying certain sounds, images, looks or replicating others, you become a prick. Nobody likes a prick. How has your sound or process changed with new album, ‘Blood’, if at all? It’s basically evolved, it’s in no way a massive departure from previous records, but you can certainly hear a change. We took it upon ourselves to take some time out and write/record ‘Blood’ over the space of a year rather than rushing it and I truly think you can hear that in the songs and vocals. It feels a little bit more grown up but still remains true to what PABH is about to me. You’re going on tour in Australia this October, it’s not your first time Down Under, what was the craziest thing that happened last time? Last year, we were over for Soundwave Festival.

We had a few days off and went cycling up the Gold Coast after a heavy night out drinking. The next day I was on a drip with sunstroke. Bloody Brits abroad! How can someone in the crowd get your attention during a live show? I usually spot people who are dancing. In fact, I kind of look out for people dancing. You always get people jumping up and down which we always notice and love, but when you see somebody dancing it’s just plain amazing to watch from stage. What sort of things are you keen to get up to in the cities? Simple; drinking and eating in Melbourne for me! Oh, I really want to go see the Opera House in Sydney and I’m also very much looking forward to having dinner with Tony Abbott.

Hi James, how’s life treating you? How have you been enjoying your British summer so far? Yes, we certainly have been this year! We’ve been playing festivals every weekend, enjoyed a little tiny heatwave here in the UK (for f**king once) and been hard at work writing new material for our next record which is going super well at the moment. MUSIC NEWS

BREACH uncovered Breach is the alias of Ben Westbeech, a DJ and producer who has worked with the likes of Gilles Peterson, DJ Marky, Henrik Schwarz and Professor Green. Under his actual name, he has released two albums; ‘Welcome to the Best Years of Your Life’ on Brownswood Recordings and ‘There’s More To Life Than This’ on Strictly Rhythm. However, it has been under the moniker of Breach since summer 2013 that Westbeech has found breakthrough success. Take his 2013, UK top 10 single, ‘Jack’. The summer favourite was not only ridiculously catchy with an electro house bassline, it suited the dance floor, festival and house party setting. He followed this up with the similarly successful, ‘Everything You Never Had (We Had It All)’ featuring Andreya Triana. In December 2014, Breach proved his pulling power by teaming up with American singer, Kelis, for ‘The Key’. His most recent release, ‘Anna Love’, is a prime example of Breach refusing to be boxed into one straightforward genre or sound. This could be a result of his influences. A trained cellist and vocalist, he has previously spoken highly of NWA, LTJ Bukem, Stevie Wonder, D’Angelo, Omar and Amy Winehouse. While his sound has changed, one thing has remained consistent: his form as a global DJ. He has spent summer in the northern hemisphere playing at the best clubs and festivals including 76

Sankeys in Ibiza, EDC in Las Vegas, DGTL Festival in Barcelona and Amsterdam Open Air Festival. The latter is, in fact, local for Westbeech; he moved from Bristol to Amsterdam at the beginning of 2013 in the hopes of a new city inspiring him – and it’s no doubt played some part in his success. Teaming up with fellow DJ and Dutchman, Cinnaman, on ‘Liberty/Avocado’ and his remixes for Sei A and Tiga Vs Audion, you can certainly hear the dirty, techno Amsterdam influence. With demand for his club set at an all-time high, Westbeech will be returning to Australia on tour, this time as Breach. Playing in Brisbane (Fortitude Valley), Sydney and Melbourne, plus one show in Queenstown, New Zealand, we reckon everyone will be on the dance floor once Breach has got going. Tickets available from venue websites.

COMEDY into contact with the lucky bracelet… It’s a very exciting, dark series set in London and London is shot in a very gothic, new way. And then at the same time there’s Dickensian on BBC1, with all of Dickens’ characters thrown together – Fagin, Miss Haversham, Scrooge – but not at the point where they end in their respective books. I play Mr Venus, Inspector Bucket’s sidekick, and it’s a look at how we see “detective-ing” emerge in Dickensian time. It’s a very exciting project and both happening simultaneously, so I’m jumping from one project to another!

OMID DJALILI One of our favourite standups of all time, Omid Djalili will be embarking on his first ever Australian tour this October. Hello Omid, how are you? I’m very well. While we’re talking I’m just getting some physio because I played 90 minutes of football the other day and I’ve totally seized up! Are you a big football fan? I’ve been a big Chelsea fan since 1971, so I’ve been going there since I was six. I lived in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea so I felt that I had to support the local team. Are you looking forward to this season then? Well, it’s going to be an exciting season. I’m a big Mourinho fan and I actually saw him shaking hands with all of the Arsenal players and it was a great moment when him and Wenger both decided not to, so I’m looking forward to more moments of pathetic intrigue! And you’re filming at the moment too… Yes, how lucky is this? The two biggest television series that could possibly be happening in London right now, I’m in both of them! One is Lucky Man with Jimmy Nesbitt, which is Stan Lee’s latest thing for Sky and NBC. This series is based on a survey he conducted, asking everybody what is their most coveted superpower, and of 1000 people, 900 wrote back saying “luck”. So there’s a lucky bracelet, and for those whose hands it falls into, they get tremendous luck, but it comes at a price, like their wife dies. Jimmy Nesbitt is investigating all of these terrible things that seem to be connected, and then he comes 78

You’ll be coming to Australia in October. Are these really your first shows in Australia? Actually, yes. I count them as my first shows because the only other time I was there was in Adelaide in 1997 with a bunch of comedians. We were all supposedly the top circuit comedians at the time, none of us were well known and we caused complete havoc. We had a wonderful time, but I’ve never been back with a possibility that an audience might know me this time. I’ve also got a premier in Australia of my film We Are Many, so I come bearing gifts! The stand-up itself has gifts, where I reveal the code for long-term relationships, which no married person tells you. There’s a framework, which we all know as married people, but we never tell, because we want everyone to suffer the way we’ve suffered… Have you been to Australia at all since? After Adelaide, I went to Sydney in ’97 and all I remember is being taken to Bondi Beach and going into the sea and getting stung by a bluebottle jellyfish within the first two seconds. I came out and find myself lying on the ground with four other British people, all sunburnt, and I just remember a pain going up from my ankle and shooting up to me groin. We all just laid there while they poured blue rinse over us – and it helped! You only have two shows – Melbourne on the 20th and Sydney on the 22nd October – will you be sticking around to do some sightseeing? Yes, of course! In my film We Are Many – it’s about anti-war demonstrations – and one of the most famous ones was painting “No War” on the Sydney Opera House. In honour of the blokes that did that, I’ll hopefully see them, and we’ll hang out for a few days. I’m not gonna fly all that way and just do two shows. If I was to live in any city in the world other than London it would be Sydney, because back in ’97 I was tremendously impressed with it; it’s a futuristic city, the restaurants are fantastic and everything works!

I think we’re gonna have a bar shipped out – I can’t remember what we decided to do about that. Generally, I’ll do what I normally do and spill beer all over it! How much are you like The Pub Landlord? Oh, not at all. We’re nothing like each other – we go to the same bar, but that’s about it! We like the sound of our own voices and we always like to be right, and we like to be the centre of attention, but otherwise we’re not at all like each other. What are the benefits of playing a character? It’s a really great way of talking about things you want to talk about, without having to address them directly, which is a really good thing. You can discuss something and never reveal what you quite think about it, and talk around it and see where you end up. You have license.

al murray We chat to Al Murray A.K.A The Pub Landlord, who you can catch live on stage in Australia this October. Hi Al, how are you? Great, thanks. How you doing? Very well! How have you been spending your British summer? Watching the Ashes! It’s taken up a fair bit of my time; I’ve been pretending to write, sitting at a desk with the Ashes on in front of me. How have you been celebrating? By jumping up and down in disbelief! It’s the weirdest thing that we’ve actually managed to do it, although it may be the home advantage thing in test cricket. It’s not 5-0 though, that’s the problem! You’ve been The Pub Landlord for 20 years, how many pints do you think you’ve drunk in that time? No one’s asked me that before! Let’s say 250 shows a year, four pints a show, 1000 a year, so… 20,000 pints? That’s pretty good! It is, isn’t it? When you put it like that! This October, you’ll be performing in the Sydney Opera House; how will you be transforming such an iconic stage into your classic pub environment?

What’s the strangest thing that’s happened during your stand-up? Oh, god! A couple at the front of my show got up 20 minutes in, left a gig and then he came back on his own. They’d broken up as a result of watching my show. He said, “she didn’t think it was funny and didn’t understand why I’d brought her to see this…” So he stuck her on the Tube and then came back to the show. Do you enjoy travelling? Yeah, I love it. I love touring. The thing of being in the clinch of an audience is a really fantastic thing when a show goes well. There’s nothing better, really. Every show is different, and because I do the first half an hour improv, it’s guaranteed. Where’s the most amazing place that your stand-up has taken you? I’ve been to the Falkland Islands, I’ve been to Hong Kong Sevens, and I’ve been to Los Angeles… All over the world – I suppose I should say the Sydney Opera House!

FUNNY NEWS called “Courtesy Counts, Manners Make a Better Ride”. It urges commuters to extend kindnesses by removing packages from seats, refraining from hogging space by sitting with your legs wide apart, and not standing by doors that block the flow of passengers. In other words, “stop being idiots, people”.

Work skiver caught napping

There’s only so many times you can tell work your grandma just died as an excuse to pull a sickie. Any more than twice and you’re pushing it. So hats off to a Florida woman who really thought outside the box to get out of her job as a night shift nursing assistant.

Commuter courtesy takes a back seat

As a regular commuter to work, BBM has some pet peeves when it comes to fellow travellers on public transport. Whether it’s young ‘uns listening to music without headphones on, people in front of you who pause when they get to the bottom of an escalator, or women who shift uncomfortably and cover themselves up when you stare at their cleavage – there really are some annoying people out there. But top of the tree in the list of annoying gits on buses and trains are those people who use bags to take up an extra seat when others are forced to stand. It’s tempting to ask these people to shift the bag, but there’s a good reason we don’t – 50 per cent of the people who use public transport are psychotic mental cases. And that fact was proven yet again last month in New York when a 45-year-old woman asked another passenger to move her bag so she could sit down, and ended up being assaulted and bitten by a frothing nutjob.

Apparently, when a concerned work colleague rang to see where Beverly Brooks was after she failed to return from her lunch break, she told them she had been kidnapped and was being held against her will. In the background, a man ordering an emotional Beverly not to get out of the car could be heard. Unfortunately for Beverly, she didn’t think too far ahead with that one as the colleague then rang the police, who were somewhat surprised to find her at home relaxing with her boyfriend. She was duly arrested for wasting police time.

Parisian ladies take the piss

Sign a petition, join a campaign, and “like” the Facebook page of the (not really) famous “wee wee” ladies of Paris who even as we speak are battling for your god-given right to have a slash in a graffiti-riddled bog. For a month now, 11 public toilet attendants in Paris have staged daily protests in the tourist haven of Montmartre after they were laid off by managers who want to transform their workplaces into trendy “boutique restrooms”.

“The suspect became enraged pushing the victim, scratching her on the chest, pulling her hair and biting her on her forearm causing a laceration and bleeding,” the NYPD said in a statement.

“They want to create luxury stores and say we don’t have the profile they’re looking for, they want us to speak several languages,” says Mahliya Fiokouna, one of the protesting “dames pipi”, or “wee-wee ladies” as they are known in France.

The rabid suspect fled the train when it stopped at a station but not before the victim snapped a picture of her attacker baring her teeth, which police shared with the public to track her down. Ironically, the incident came a few weeks after the New York transport authority launched a campaign

That’s right ladies, how dare they try to improve public toilet facilities. After all, that stinky crap turning the air bad is creating jobs – which, coincidentally, is exactly the same argument Tony Abbott is using to back the coal industry.

Manly wharf, it seems arsehole parking rangers are becoming ever bolder with their ridiculous ticket-slapping antics, following the news that one of them gave a bus a fine for waiting at a bus stop. The bus had a scheduled ten-minute break at the spot in Edenbridge, Kent, and the driver nipped into a nearby bakery to pick up a snack as he waited. But when he returned minutes later, he was outraged to find a warden issuing a £70 ticket.

Flipping the bird

A swearing parrot’s reign of rudeness has been cut short after the foul-mouthed feathered friend was arrested by police for verbally abusing an old woman. Hariyal the parrot pecked off more than he could chew when he unleashed a four-letter rant at an 85-year-old woman in the Indian town of Rajura in the state of Maharashtra last month. The problem is it wasn’t the first time she’d been the target of his avian obscenities, in fact she was the step-mother to the parrot’s owner, Suresh Sakharkar. “On seeing me, the parrot uses bad language and foul words,” said stepmum Janabai. “That is why I have complained thrice in the last two years. Police called me, Suresh and the parrot to the police station. Police should investigate and seize the parrot.” And that’s precisely what authorities did. Police decided to call in all three parties, including the parrot, but apparently they couldn’t make him squawk and he was sent back home.

Dealer or no deal for cheeky cops

Police in the American state of Maine have come up with a cunning way to help local entrepreneurs and beat crime at the same time – get drug dealers to turn in their rivals. The Winslow police department posted a flier on Facebook asking drug dealers to fill out a form with the name, address, and phone numbers of other drug dealers in their areas.

Now bus company Go Coach is battling with the council to waive the penalty, which has risen to £105 after they missed the deadline to pay it. Matthew Arnold, director at Go Coach, was naturally a tad pissed off with the penalty charge notice. “The bus has a scheduled ten minute hesitation at this location – unfortunately there simply isn’t anywhere else to wait,” he said

The flier reads: “Attention Drug Dealers. Is your competition costing you customers, and MONEY! We’re here to help!” While we don’t have a particularly high opinion of drug dealers, we doubt they’re going to fall for it. Perhaps next week, officers should put up a big marquee tent outside the station with a sign saying “Free prizes inside for drug dealers”, then they just arrest anyone who turns up. Or, you know, they could just do their jobs and arrest the criminals themselves.

SPORTS NEWS

Terry gets into gear after subbing It seems time is finally catching up with Chelsea pensioner John Terry.

The first signs of dementia were there way back in 2012 when he seemed to forget he hadn’t actually played in the Champions League final and instead jumped and danced around with the team at the final whistle as if he’d kicked the winning goal. But when he was substituted out of the game against Manchester City by bezzy mate Jose Mourinho for the first time in 6493 games, it finally confirmed his time was almost up.

Tevez still taunts Blades

The 2006-07 Premier League season is a distant memory for most of us. In fact the only thing we really remember from back then was all those Chuck Norris facts (ever wondered if he really has won a game of Connect 4 in only three moves?). But for one group of football fans, the 2006-07 season had one of those Quantum Leap/ Closing Doors/ Being Erica (whichever TV generation you were raised in) moments that changed the course of history forever. Those fans were from Sheffield United, and that moment was when Carlos Tevez scored the winner for West Ham against Manchester United in the final game of the season to send the Blades back to the Championship. It was a bitter pill not just because of the relegation, but because it was later proven the Hammers were pretty much cheating just by having Tevez on the pitch. They were told to pay the Blades $20million as a result - but crucially avoided being docked points. To say Blades fans have been bitter since is a bit of an understatement... especially as they’re now playing in League One while the Hammers are still loving top-flight life. Why this long backstory you ask? Well, because it kind of explains why Blades fans were royally pissed off at Sky Sports last month when the company used a huge image of Tevez scoring THAT goal on a billboard directly outside Bramall Lane to promote the new season. To put it in context, it would be like the NFL putting up a huge image of Tom Brady celebrating last season’s NFL championship outside the Indiana Colts’ home ground. Or Alastair Cook taking a huge shit on Michael Clarke’s front doorstep. Sky Sports said the billboard had been ‘unintentional and unfortunate’ and would be removed as soon as possible. Salt meet wound.

At least JT has his mates to fall back on. Oh that’s right, he doesn’t have any. Trying to hump their girlfriends will do that. And being a knob. But luckily for his Terryness, he can always rely on his other great passion - spending great huge chunks of money on cars. And that’s apparently what he did to cheer himself up following his subbing, after buying a $1.5million Ferrari. We’re sure that will fill the void John - and we’re not talking about the one between your ears.

Bale fails the music test

Signs of Gareth Bale’s fall from grace were confirmed on Twitter this week when he revealed he’s a big fan of Brian McFadden’s new single. In other surprising news, Brian McFadden is still making music - who the hell is responsible for this tragedy? No wonder the industry is up cack alley. “Enjoying a chilled out Sunday listening to the new Brian McFadden song,” tweeted banality-fan Bale. Understandably, Irish cockwomble McFadden was thrilled to have a famous fan, and even stopped stacking shelves at Sainsbury’s for a moment to respond. “You just love it because I wrote it about you ya sexy beast!” he tweeted back - which would be a compliment if it hadn’t come from someone who has probably said the same thing to Kerry Katona.

Five-star display in the name game

Poor old Alan Smith. “Which one?” we hear you ask. Exactly. Is it the former rising Leeds starlet turned Man United flop? Or the former mediocre Arsenal striker turned mediocre Sky Sports pundit? Or the former Sheffield Wednesday physiotherapist (yes, there was one, we just looked on Wikipedia)?

That’s the problem with having a common name, it’s never really your own. So surely if you have a weird name like, say, Aston Villa new boy Adama Traore, you’d be guaranteed a unique place in football history. Well think again. Not only are there no less than five Adama Traoreseses in professional football, they’re all playing right now too. At least there’s usually only one Alan Smith for each generation, poor old Adama has to stand out from namesake quintuplets on a weekly basis. Luckily for the Villa Adama, he’s the best and youngest of the bunch, with the others plying their trade at FC Basel, Monaco, Calais and some Malian club called TP Mazembe. He must be the runt of the litter.

Kit launched at meat and greet

West “Ham” just got a new rival to their meatthemed monopoly on football puns following the launch of Spanish club CD Guijuelo’s new kit. The ham-themed shirt, presumably designed by Lady Gaga, immediately shot into the top 10 of worst kits ever - which is quite a coup for Spanish manufacturers Daen Sport, who already have a broccoli-themed kit (for La Hoya Lorca FC) and one featuring a large octopus tentacle (Cultural y Deportivo) on the esteemed list. Apparently it’s all to do with what the team’s local area is known for - so Liverpool’s kit would be a shell suit, for example. But the ham kit tops the lot, not only because it’s hideous, but because it doesn’t even look like the nice ham you get from the deli, more like the cheap crap you get in little packs of 10 from Coles.

Tweet and sour source at Blackpool It’s only been four years since their glorious stint in the Premier League, but the subsequent fall from grace has been sharp for Blackpool. Rent-a-quote Ian Holloway has long since departed, another relegation last season has put them back in League One, and now one of the club’s Twitter accounts has been shut down after it was used to call a supporter an “arsehole w**ker”. Talk about kicking someone when they’re down. The spat kicked off when a fan offered to donate £20 to charity if the pitch appeared playable for the first home game of the season, after a Neil Diamond concert was held at the ground.

The account in question - @CommercialBFC goaded the supporter, who went on to say that he would honour the offer but only because the charity was a good cause. The account replied: “Back track, typical arsehole w**ker”, before tangling with another fan about the state of the club. Next week, the Blackpool Twitter account turns its tirade of abuse towards Children in Need.

Black future as World Cup kicks off

Good news for Wallabies and England fans ahead of the Rugby World Cup - one of your biggest rivals looks set for a humiliating group stage exit. The bad news is it’s probably going to be either the Wallabies or England who go out. Sorry if we raised your hopes there. Yes it’s the Rugby World Cup this month, a competition in which 19 teams slug it out for the honour of losing to the All Blacks in the final. It kicks off on September 18th and all eyes will be on - duh-duh duuuuuurrrrrr - The Group of Death, featuring England, Australia, Wales, Fiji and - wahwaaah - Uruguay. Poor bastards. That means it’s going to be curtains for at least one of the tournament’s heavy hitters - and we’re not just talking about Sam Burgess. The shindig kicks off with Fiji versus England so get your alarm clocks ready.

CRYSTAL BALLS Sagittarius In a damning investigative report by the Daily Telegraph involving a hidden camera and a “fake sheik”, the owner of the Sagittarius brand is caught on tape snorting cocaine and bragging about how he just “made up the idea of Sagittarius” in the ‘50s as a publicity stunt and that there’s only really 11 star signs. He also claims that most “idiot” Sagittarians are ugly and don’t even realise there’s no such thing as centaurs in Greek mythology, he just invented them after hearing a funny joke about bestiality.

Virgo Virgos are known to be sensible, rational people who approach situations with a scientific analytical approach. So why are you reading a horoscope to solve your problems? Dick.

Libra At the stroke of midnight, you are magically transported back in time to 9am the previous morning. That’s right, it’s your own personal Groundhog Day! The only problem is, that was the morning after you got pissed and had that dodgy curry. In short, you spend most of the day puking or crapping – then do it all over again when the clock hits midnight. Forever.

Taurus You get lost in the woods and end up being chased and savaged by a wolf. Luckily for you, it’s 84-year-old author Tom Wolfe, and you escape with little more than light grazing.

84

www.bbmlive.com

Pisces Your star sign is bought by a Russian billionaire oil magnate who immediately installs Jose Mourinho as manager and buys Neymar, Gareth Bale and a young Everton left-back to help boost the chances of Champions League qualification next year. Unfortunately, he also clears out a lot of the “dead wood”, including you. You are immediately placed on the transfer list and end up moving to Capricorn in Zodiac League Two as part of an exchange deal for Harry Styles from One Direction.

Leo A new study reveals 80 percent of the people who booed Adam Goodes were born between July 23 and August 22. You racist bastards.

Aries Your reluctance to throw away old toothbrushes comes back to bite you when your partner uses one to clean some stains off the back of the toilet and accidentally leaves it back on the bathroom dresser. It’s only when you’re flossing afterwards and a chunk of poo comes out that the full horror of what’s happened hits you.

Gemini You are selected to be a competitor on Australia’s latest reality TV show, a cooking meets home renovation crossover contest called My Restaurant Reno Rules on the MasterChef Block. You are eliminated in round four when you fail to win the hand in marriage of a farmer during a spelling competition.

Scorpio You become the first of the zodiac signs to “go green”, exclusively using solar power

for your entire energy usage. Unfortunately, this backfires somewhat as constellations only appear when the sun goes down. This leaves you with no power at all and you and the rest of your Scorpio kind revert to a kind of primitive cavemanstyle way of living.

Aquarius Access to your horoscope has been severely disrupted due to roadworks. Scorpio readers who wish to access their horoscope are advised to set off early and take a detour through Leo past Orion’s belt. Major delays expected.

Capricorn For years you’ve been slightly afraid to move between carriages on a moving train, you always thought it might be like opening a window on a plane in mid-flight and that you’d get sucked out by decompressing air. You conquer that fear this week, but are slightly disappointed to discover it just smells like someone cabbagefarted in that little room that adjoins both carriages. At least it’s one off the bucket list.

Cancer You take a couple of acting lessons and are immediately picked for a small role on long-running daytime crapfest The Bold and the Beautiful. After a few days on set thinking stardom awaits, it’s explained to you that the only reason you got the part is because the show runners scoured the earth for an actor so bad it would make the awful cast look slightly better. In other words, you are the world’s worst actor. They kill you off in a dream sequence involving a seductive zombie and a huge anvil. Don’t ask.

ASK CRYSTAL Dear Crystal, This is your publisher. As explosive as the first few chapters of your autobiography are, we really can’t print some of the anecdotes about your sexual escapades with celebrities. The defamation costs from the story about you, Tom Cruise and the male cast members from Cats would financially ruin us. Can you just tone it down a bit? Or at least make it more vague like “a certain well-known pint-sized Hollywood star, whose name I can’t divulge, used to enjoy dressing up as a dog and letting men dressed as cats pleasure him anally”? Also, is that true about Oscar Pistorius having “other” attachments for his legs that allowed him to fill all three of your orifices at the same time? Yours, Trevor Dear Trevor, I thought it might come to this. It was the story about One Direction and the magnum of champagne wasn’t it? Talk about spin the bottle, I don’t think Zayn has been able to walk properly since. No wonder he quit. Anyway, leave it with

me and I’ll see what I can do. And yes it’s all true about Oscar Pistorius. He had so many contraptions, it was like humping Inspector Gadget. And the irony is he’s probably having all of his orifices filled now he’s in prison. Dear Crystal, I’m scared my wife is going to rip my balls off, please help. I’ve been banging birds on Ashley Maddison for a couple of years now, it’s been awesome, but this data leak scandal has left me crapping myself. If the old ball and chain finds out I can kiss my testicles goodbye. Is there any way out of it? Sincerely, John Dear John, I’m afraid you’re screwed. The only thing you can do is gradually move anything of value out of the house and into a safe storage facility so that when the volcano hits, you’ll at least have something to fall back on. You might want to store some sperm too, as your ability to create children could be cut short very soon.

JOKES “You fancy my best friend, don’t you?” asked my wife. “If given the choice...” I replied, “I’d rather have sex with you then her.” “You mean ‘than’.” “No.” Steven, Paddington What’s worse than finding a hole in your condom? Finding a condom in your hole! Matt, Darlinghurst My mate asked me why I have sex noises saved on my iPod. I said, “It’s for sound effects during sex.” He asked, “Your wife a bit quiet in the sack?” I replied, “No, I work in a morgue.” Sarah, Kings Cross The BBC recently commissioned a nationwide

survey into how often children can be bullied at school over their intelligence, and the results make difficult reading. For the thickos. Mark, Cottesloe My wife started cooking for our guests and told me to prepare the table. So I went in and told them all about her cooking. Thom, Darwin My girlfriend had just passed her driving test so she drove me to town. It was packed but we managed to find a space but she was nervous about doing a parallel park. “I’m confident in you babe just do what you did in the test” I said She slowly started unbuttoning

my flies. Gary, Richmond I went to the police station and said, “I’d like to report a rape.” Thirty seconds later, they’d sat me in a private room with a counsellor and a cup of tea. “Wow!” I thought to myself. “They don’t half treat you well when you hand yourself in.” Trevor, St Kilda ‘Our Cilla’ has died and gone to Heaven, she’s ‘God’s Cilla’ now. So expect her to be attacking Tokyo in the upcoming weeks. Freida, Joondalup Nicole Scherzinger has gone from Lewis Hamilton to Ed Sheeran. Guess orange really is the new black. Tess, Fremantle
