Bronte’s pool (known as Bronte Baths) is nestled into a cove with cliffs and walking paths surrounding you and provides a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean.

Skydiving

So you think you haven’t cheated death enough in your lifetime, why not jump out of an airplane? Good for you, but here are is a quick run down you might want to consider: You start to re-evaluate your decision as you climb to 14,000 feet above all those people, cars and buildings that were a lot closer just a few minutes before. The instructor harnessed to your back is calm, most of them do this five days a week; skydiving sometimes twice a day. The sound of the engines gets considerably louder when they open the door and summon you to come forward. This is the moment when the panic hits you and you realize you’re about to jump out into that wild blue yonder and all that’s left for you to do is start laughing and screaming at the same time. If any nationality in the world understands your desire to go skydiving, it’s the Aussies. Australia has a number of different companies that can take care of your desire to skydive. The country also has some of the most beautiful terrain to look at while you drop at over 220 km per hour.

Skydiving Scenery If you’re in Sydney, or any city along the coast, the most beautiful place to skydive is just along the ocean. You can skydive over places like Mission Beach, Penrith Lakes, Byron Bay, Cairns and others. There are a number of different companies to take you to different spots in and around the city’s beaches. Many of these skydiving companies offer free transport back and forth from the city to the take-off site.

Tandem or Solo Skydiving Even if you have jumped before, it’s best to do a tandem jump with a certified instructor. If you want to jump by yourself, you have to be licensed and with the cost of insurance, it can be quite expensive. The cost of the tandem skydive depends on a couple things like the company you choose to go with, the height at which you choose to jump from, the day of the week you are available to go on and whether or not you want you want pictures or a DVD of your skydive. If you’d like to watch your cheeks look like they are about to be pulled off your face and listen to yourself scream like an old woman on a rollercoaster, we recommend you get the DVD. However just for the jump, with no extras included, the prices run between $280 to $340. Pictures are usually $100 and DVDs are $140, with package deals making each significantly cheaper. Skydiving in Australia is an experience you will remember for the rest of your life and though it may seem scary before hand, once you’ve gently touched ground, you’ll be ready to go again.

BBM Live’s Kara Christopher Reviews Skydive The Beach Sydney. During my two month study abroad program in Australia, there were a couple things on my bucket list that I knew I couldn’t leave Sydney without doing... skydiving being one of them. Even though there are more than enough places in Chicago to skydive, I could not be happier with my decision to skydive on the beautiful beaches of Sydney. For the most part, I was extremely excited to skydive, but I’ll admit, I was a bit anxious at the thought of jumping out of a plane 14,000 feet above the ground. However, any nerves I had on the plane ride up to our jumping destination were immediately forgotten due to the humor of the dive instructors and the incredible landscape views. No skydiving experience in the United States could ever compare to the unbelievable on and off land scenery of diving on the coast of Wollongong. Thankfully, this is an experience I will never forget due to the phenomenal DVD and pictures that Skydive the Beach staff provided me with after my jump. Thanks to BBM magazine and Skydive the Beach, my skydiving experience on the beach alone not only completed my trip, but it is enough to make me come back and visit Australia again! Images thanks to SKYDIVE The Beach Sydney.

Esplanade Market

Every Sunday since 1970, The Esplanade Market, St Kilda, has been the destination for those searching for something special, somewhere special. Occurring weekly, the market is an iconic and popular destination in Melbourne, with some of the stallholders having been there since the market first opened. The St Kilda Esplanade Arts & Crafts Market has more than 150 stalls offering a variety of original art and handcrafts. It runs from Luna Park along The Esplanade to Fitzroy Street, and advertises itself as a “Makers’ Market Place,” meaning that the stall holders must be directly involved in the production of the items they are selling. This means you can find out all about the product you are purchasing from the artist who created it. Established as an outlet for local artists, the market is now home to articles from some of Victoria’s best artists and craftspeople that display and sell their work directly to the public. Open every Sunday of the year, 10am - 5pm, you can meet hundreds of artisans offering an exciting range of their contemporary artworks. Some of the stalls have been at the Esplanade Market for years, and almost all of them cater for the huge population of tourists. For example Matt Irwin’s photographs of Melbourne, which have been at the market since the 1990’s, and Calypsoflash, who sell pewter jewellery which they now also sell online, who have held their place at the market for 38 years. The Esplanade Market is truly a well worth wander if you’re in town and fancy getting your mitts on some nice original work. By Ella White

GET SOCIAL Holiday Fashion The sun is going to be beating down on you fairly shortly, so obviously you’re going to be heading down to the beach, right? Well you better be anyway. And if you are, we will be expecting our BBM readers to be looking sexy and representing! A key look for this seasons’ beachwear is tribal, so go with chunky jewellery to accessories your swimsuit. Or opt for a jungle style print bikini, like Lisa below. Lisa’s teamed this with patterned rimmed sunglasses to add a subtle, cool clash to her look. Shona here has opted for summer bright accents to her beach ensemble. Nicely done with the ever-faithful RayBan Wayfarers, in a supreme shade of aqua. Also take note of her Hawaiian element with mismatching prints on her bikini. A great way to show organized casual beach wear.

The die-hard summer staple that will never fade. Nautical stripes. Bettina does the look perfectly with her black and white two-piece. But remember if you stick with a black and white combo you can also accessories this with red bangles, beach bag, cover ups and neat hair for a polished 50s look, or turn it on its head and bring in shades of vibrant yellow and match with chunky tribal flavoured jewellery, to show you mean business with your posing on the beach. Remember accessories are key to dressing up your beach look. So check out Jodie’s wide-brimmed sun hat. It’s the perfect Audrey Hepburn-style compliment to any beachwear. Classic. BBM’s taking our ‘Get Social’ page to new levels, and now we really do want to get you guys talking. We’ve been getting a number of emails recently about people wanting to make new friends whilst they’re traveling around Australia, looking for partying buddies, people to share excursions and experiences with, and just looking to maybe get dating. With this in mind, we’ll be publishing some of the messages and images, but remember if you’re looking to double up on accommodation, perhaps want someone to go to a festival with, or go jet boating or drinking with, do post it on our facebook wall! Also, BBM likes going on dates, but we too can be a bit shy, so if you’ve spotted a hottie in a bar or club recently, but you missed your chance to chat to them, then post on our facebook wall and we’ll help you find them! Be sure you send us any pics of people you’ve seen out that you’d like to get to know a little better. You can post pics on our facebook wall or email at staffwriter@what-media.com. Here are some of this month’s messages… “I saw you the other Monday at Great Southern Bar. You were tall and tanned and young and lovely, but I doubt you were from Ipanema. Maybe some kind of Spanish or Italian. I’d really like to get to know you better, so do get in touch via BBM, so I can take you out for a drink.” From tall dark and handsome and not arrogant in the slightest. “You were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar, (Double Happiness) when I met you. I picked you out and shook you up, and then you told me to fuck off. However, I’d like to say that I’m just a bit of an immature prick, and that was my way of saying I think you’re lovely. So please do message me.” Not at all desperate Dan, Darlinghurst. “Every move you make, every bond you break, every step you take I’ll be watching you – from the bushes, to the fit blonde jogging down Manly beach front every Wednesday morning.” Shh BBM this is not your excuse to try and find girls to jizz on, pipe down. “Ronery, I’m so ronery, I have nobody to go surfing with at Bondi Beach on Sundays.” Get in touch – Evelyn the Sydney Surfer Girl. “Last Friday night, we danced on tabletops and we took too many shots – I think we kissed, but I forgot. P l ay g r o u n d W e e k e n d e r Every ex-Pat in Sydney will be jumping with excitement as Playground Weekender enters its sixth year running.

Cuban Brothers

The festival, which offers music lovers an alternative to the one-day city festivals, has won awards for ‘Best Crowd and Atmosphere,’ and promises an eclectic mix of sounds from across the globe.

The Cuban Brothers launched by storming UK club-land with their passionate attitude towards partying and performing - and their rise to fame was meteoric.

With six stages, an outdoor cinema, yoga, cocktails bar, cabaret food and market stalls, Club Tropicana swimming pool and Australia’s largest fancy dress party, you will never be at a loss for things to do. Check out some of the biggest names from this year’s line-up…

Roots Manuva

Over the past 12 years Rodney Smith AKA Roots Manuva has released eight albums, which boast some of the biggest British hip-hop hits of the noughties. Now he’s back at Sydney’s Playground Weekender, with four album’s worth of material, from latest release ‘4everevolution’ to some classic hits from the past decade. Asked to explain the title of his new record, his most crafted and accomplished yet, he said, “It’s me and my fascination with the deeper, darker sonic resonance and sentiments. Dark shapes and sonic pictures. I’m just an awfully deep kind of guy.”

Some of their highlights including playing mainstage at Manumission, hosting the NME Awards and even presenting music specials for MTV at Homelands and Creamfriends, MTV Ibiza and the MTV Music Awards in 2002. The comedy quartet’s live shows have become the stuff of legends, having performed at festivals like Glasonbury and Bestival, to performances for Robbie Williams, Elton John and Richard Branson. Their performances are renowned for their combination of music, riotous comedy, and sensational dancing. This year Cuban Brother’s host Playground Weekender’s Fancy Dress Saturday Catwalk, so grab your lycra leggings and your dancing shoes, and come and join the fun!

Neon Indian Texas-based, Neon Indian, is the brainchild of Mexican-born Alan Palomo. Their debut, ‘Psychic Chasms,’ received favourable reviews, including being dubbed ‘Best New Music’ and 14th best album of 2009 by Pitchfork Media. Their sound has been described as everything from chill-wave- to psychedelic, to electronic. Either way, it has a definite 80s vibe, influenced by Palomo’s father who had a brief stint in the late 70s and early 80s as a Spanish popstar. Evidently it was in Palomo’s blood to become the sensation known today as Neon Indian.

Born and raised in Stockwell, London, Roots Manuva claims to have discovered his passion for music at a young age. Whilst passing Stockwell Skate Park with his mother, he saw a huge sound system pumping out a bass that changed his perception of music, and his future, instantaneously.

Having struggled through many music projects, first under the pseudonym ‘Ghosthustler’ and then ‘VEGA,’ ‘Neon Indian’ was eventually coined by an ex-girlfriend of Palomo’s, who is also the subject of their song ‘I Should Have Taken Acid With You.’ Her positive response to the tune encouraged Palomo to continue making music as Neon Indian, and here they are today!

From a modest Jamaican background, music was never meant to be the chief inspiration in Smith’s life. But thank God it was! He is currently signed to Big Dadda Records and lives in Sheffield, and will be sharing some of the first tastes of his new material with the crowds at Playground Weekender.

Having opened for bands including Chromeo, Flaming Lips and Massive Attack, as well as scoring a place at top festivals, South by Southwest and Bonnaroo, Neon Indian’s performance at Playground Weekend will no doubt be a blinder.

Damian Lazarus Since the moment he spun his first record, Damian Lazarus’s mission has been a clear and urgent one: to blow away the mediocre, the over-inflated, the obsolete; to seek out and celebrate the energetic, the important, the new. Always rebelling, always going places. British born techno house DJ, Damian Lazarus, began his career as a music journalist working as Assistant Editor for Dazed & Confused magazine in London. Driven by an almost childlike curiosity, a vivid imagination and wicked sense of humour, he’s used his role as a DJ, label owner and now musician to nurture and share the most exciting and experimental music on the planet. Drawn to the darkness, but buoyed by the light, ever ready to embrace new ideas and different perspectives on music and the dancefloor, Lazarus is always ahead of the curve, with a wry smile on his face and a neat trick up his sleeve. How many DJs do you know who’ve played ‘Reviewing The Situation (from the Oliver! soundtrack, no less) half-speed to a jubilant crowd at DC10 in Ibiza? How many DJs do you know who’ve received a sitting ovation on the dancefloor? What’s for sure is that Damian Lazarus is certainly unique. Boasting his own record label and radio show, Lazarus is more than just a DJ.

Lee Burridge Lee Burridge began his legacy after moving to Hong Kong, where he proceeded to make a name for himself at the forefront of Asian dance music, headlining world-renowned events including pioneering dance music at Thailand’s legendary Full Moon Party. But his beginnings were not so bright. Before his reign as Asian Dance King, Burridge DJ’d at parties, weddings and even funerals in 1980s England. He is now not only a DJ, but a producer and record label owner, and has mixed albums for labels such as Global Underground, Hooj Choons and Balance. Having DJ’d at the world famous Burning Man Festival, Burridge has now began a new series of concept parties based on his experience at the festival. The parties, launched in San Francisco and New York, were called ‘GET WEIRD’ and Burridge has since taken the concept to many other cities. Burridge can read a crowd like no other, and plays some of the most genre bending and jaw-dropping records you’re ever likely to hear, so be sure to check him out at Playground Weekender! Loaded Dice & Bass Drop Presents Heavyweight Soundz featuring Andy C, MC GQ, Camo & Krooked and Fierce

MC GQ

The Drum ‘n’ Bass legend that is none other than Andy C will be heading to Australia for a national tour. Accompanied by MC GQ, Loaded Dice & Bass Drop they really have got a spoiler of a night lined up for you. Andy C and MC GQ will also be joined by Camo & Krooked and Fierce. Touring across Australia, whether you’re in Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne or Sydney, you’ll get a chance to possibly make your brain explode with excitement on the dancefloor, so make sure you don’t delay in getting your tickets.

Andy C

Acting as the middleman between the DJ and the crowd, MC GQ will be revving up his vocal chords alongside Andy C. GQ’s partnership approach to DJ’s has kept him at the top of his game since the 90s. You can often find GQ with Hype at One Nation or Goldie at a Metalheadz Session. His versatile style means he can keep the crowd bubbling to a liquid set then switch up to double time and tear down a rave. GQ was surrounded by music from a very early age, be it at home or amongst friends. At school, GQ and friend Det (MC) would freestyle along to beats banged out on their desks: but it was watching his neighbour, DJ Ron and DJ Hype on the TNT system that influenced him to pick up the mic and it was with his good friend Spoony that he managed to find his own unique sound. These were the solid foundations on which his career was built. GQ’s turned professional after his friend Julie Braithwaite introduced him to Acid House in the late 80’s. Tunes like Joey Beltram’s ‘Acid Thunder’ and ‘Big Fun’ got under his skin and over the next two years GQ began to organise a whole host of parties, whilst MC-ing and even DJ-ing at others: from Skitzophrenia at Ilford Palais to the legendary raves at Croland Road, then down to KiKi’s in Margate, and back to Clapham Common. Weekends became a string of parties, surrounded with the likes of Frankie Valentine, Rat Pack, Grooverider, Mathew B, Richie Fingers, Frankie Bones, and Tony Trax.

Camo & Krooked

Headlining this Drum ‘n’ Bass spectacular is Andy C. Andy C is one of the key protagonists of the Drum ‘n’ Bass movement. He has become a global ambassador for Drum ‘n’ Bass, and is regarded as one of the greatest DJs to ever grace the wheels of steel. The founder of influential label Ram Records, Andy C has dedicated almost two decades of his life to the music he loves, jetting across the globe, showcasing his turntable mastery. Skills that have earned him a status as one of the most iconic and important figures in global dance music culture. Andy C’s journey began at 15, when he first met Scott Bourne (Red One) through a school work-experience placement. The slightly older Scott ran a rave called Imagination in Bishopsgate, London, and it was here that Andy’s attention was first captured by the DJ controlling the crowd. After buying a cheap pair of decks, plenty of sleepless school nights spent practicing, and endlessly mailing out demo cassettes; luck struck and Andy was asked to play at Elevation on London’s Shaftsbury Avenue. Residencies at legendary raves such as Telepathy followed and, as Jungle emerged from Hardcore, Andy C became a name to watch. With his career as a DJ taking flight, although still yet to finish school, Andy was also busy cutting his teeth as a producer, grappling with the rudimentary music-tech of the early-90s under the guidance of family friend Ant Miles, and creating his own tracks on reel-to-reel tape players and monophonic samplers. Having spent months working on the four-track ‘Sour Mash’ EP, the young DJ was determined the tracks should find a release. As such, just one week after finishing his GCSEs, Ram Records was launched, taking its name from Andy’s star sign (Aries) and with a logo hand-drawn by his sister on the kitchen table at home. Little did anyone involved realise then, but what would go on to become one of the biggest and most powerful brands in dance music had just been born. Never stopping for a moment, Andy C has just completed his UK tour ‘Alive’, which has proven so popular that he will be returning in the New Year for another stab. Mixing audio-visual multi media with his music for this show, Andy C has proves that his innovation knows no bounds. Having just completed a massive 5-date supertour of Australia with Stereosonic, and being recently crowned No 1 Drum N Bass DJ for the 13th Year running at the DNB Arena Awards, the man they call the Executioner isn’t softening up... In fact, he’s sharpening his axe. Andy C’s awards and honours include:

Camo & Krooked are made up of Austrian duo Reinhard Rietsch and Markus Wagner. In a short space of time they have become one of the hottest production outfits in Europe. Producing together since 2007, Grooverider hailed them as “one of the biggest talents in Drum ‘N’ Bass”. The Viennese duo have created a whirl of dancefloor anthems in recent times; releasing dancefloor bombs like ‘Turn Up the Music’ ‘Watch it Burn’ and ‘Climax’ on Hospital Records. With a number of successful releases in the bag, the duo, are now signed exclusively to Hospital Records. Thanks to their first class studio work, Camo & Krooked have a hectic DJ schedule, touring the globe on the back of their debut album ‘Cross The Line’. ‘Cross The Line’ is a fourteen-track rollercoaster ride of emotive dance that firmly establishes Camo & Krooked as dance leaders outside of the Drum ‘N’ Bass sphere, delving into dubstep, drumstep, electrohouse and everything in between.

Fierce

Fierce is very much a DJ’s DJ. Having been at the forefront of the Drum ‘n’ Bass scene since the mid 90s, known as the Tech Step era, Fierce first made a name for himself on the genrebusting imprint, ‘No U-Turn’ at the tender age of 16.

MUSIC NEWS Album Reviews The Best of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds To celebrate Australia’s premier moustached singer, songwriter and author, EMI are re-releasing Nick Cave’s back catalogue including the always excellent entry point “The Best Of”. Cave & his Bad Seeds are generally one of those bands that you either know and love, or are aware of and feel that you should know more about. No doubt you’ve heard his music somewhere along the line and the (originally released in 1998) Best Of should hopefully provide an idea of what. For the un-inducted, Nick Cave has a voice that could make a wolverine purr. He’s always a lyrically incredibly clever writer, and can move from style to style rather seamlessly - something that is brought to the fore in this collection - although the roots of his music are in blues/rock. From the rock of ‘Deanna’, ‘Tupelo’ and ‘Red Right Hand’, via some of the best (subtle) ballads ever written with ‘(Are You) The One That I’ve Been Waiting For’ and ‘The Ship Song’, to murder-ballads such as the well known ‘Where The Wild Roses Grow’, Cave has been writing songs to pluck at the heart strings, encourage you to move your feet, and generally enjoy music. He is a consummate storyteller whose compositions will always give you something new to find on repeat listens. It’s a shame that it’s missing some of the later stuff, from No More Shall We Part, through Abbatoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheous to Dig, Lazurus, Dig!!!, but it’s the earlier tunes that you’ll recognise. His career continues to go from strength to strength with new band ‘Grinderman’ - but this compilation is one of the better ‘Best Of’ ones out there - and it demands to be in your collection, if nothing else, for those moments when you’re not entirely sure what to listen to.

F*** Me I’m Famous – Cathy & David Guetta

Lianne La Havas – Lost & Found EP This is a truly magnificent artist to emerge from the London underground soul scene. She could quite easily be the new Amy Winehouse or Erykah Badu with her Sade type swoops and vocal similarities to Billie Holiday. Beautiful is an under-stated word to use to describe La Havas’ heartfelt songs. Lianne La Havas starts the EP with a collaboration with Willy Mason, ‘No Room for Doubt’. It’s audibly an acoustic gem of an EP, where Willy Mason and La Havas compliment each other’s vocals stunningly on the opening track. There is a pleasant guitar groove throughout this song, and her voice is nothing but outstanding. Next up, is Lost & Found, the title EP track, which could easily be a soundtrack for a movie or at least a love movie soundtrack song. It’s reminiscent of Adele’s Someone Like You but jazzier and soul-drenched. Age is another fantastic Lianne La Havas song, unique, original, thought provoking in lyrics and story telling. She reminds the listener also of those old souls like Bessie Smith or Sarah Vaughan. Nothing has come out of the UK music scene quite like this talented artist, and Night School is another excellent song taken from Lost & Found. There is a US artist called Valencia Robinson, and our Lianne La Havas is in the same musical realm as Robinson. Final Form; is yes, the final track from this wonderful EP Lost & Found and it leaves you wanting more.

Single Reviews Radiohead ‘Bloom’ (Jamie xx Rework Part 3) Jamie xx’s unique spin on Radiohead’s ‘Bloom’ is a fine piece of electronic post-dubstep, which manages to fuse danceable club beats with a cacophony of distant clattering and ethereal vocals to good effect. However, fans of Radiohead who want to check out this version of The King of Limbs song may be disappointed, as the original track is almost completely unrecognisable in the remix and there is almost nothing to be heard of Thom Yorke’s impassioned vocals. But removing them was arguably essential if Jamie xx was going to make his own mark on the song and create a dancefloor filler. Overall, a worthwhile experiment.

Kendrick Lamar featuring Busta Rhymes Rigamortis (Remix)

Artist Profiles Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds If you haven’t heard of Noel Gallagher then frankly, you must have been living under a rock for the past 20 years. A key part of the phenomenally successful (but often critically derided) British guitar band Oasis, Noel- along with snarly brother Liamhas turned out some of the most popular and recognisable songs in the modern rock ‘n’ roll canon. Major hits such as ‘Wonderwall’ and ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’ and albums like ‘Definitely Maybe’ were largely constructed by the guitar and pen of the older Gallagher, and now, after more high profile and bitter fall outs with his horrible brother than a Cheryl Cole marriage, he is going it alone. Gallagher released his solo debut, Noel Gallagher and His High Flying Birds in October this year, and found himself immediately up against Liam’s Beady Eye. Though it is likely Gallagher will be primarily remembered for his contribution to Oasis, his latest LP proved there is life in the old dog yet. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Bird’s sideshows are both sold out in Sydney & Melbourne, your ONLY chance to see the show is at BIG DAY OUT 2012.

Arctic Monkeys

Sheffield’s Arctic Monkeys quickly went from being an internet sensation to one of the biggest and most popular bands in the UK, in little over a calendar year. The band’s combination of Strokes-like hooks and Oasis swagger, coupled with singer Alex Turner’s sharp wordplay and distinctive Northern accent, saw their debut album ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’ become the fastest selling debut in UK chart history. Propelled by the irresistible single ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor’ the album won many critics awards as well as achieving preposterous sales for a fledgling band barely into their teens. Since then, the Monkeys have had to deal with almost as much hype (and scorn) as their American cousins The Strokes, and have dealt with it all reasonably well. Following on from 2007’s generally well received sophomore effort Favourite Worst Nightmare, the band decamped to the USA to work on the experimental- but less successfulJosh Homme produced Humbug, which they released two years later. Most recently the band has released and toured extensively 2011’s return to hard rock, Suck It And See. And in between recording with the Monkeys, frontman Turner has also found time to work on his side project, The Last Shadow Puppets.

Mr and Mrs David and Cathy Guetta combine to curate new Ibiza mix album ‘F**k Me I’m Famous’, a selection of tunes encapsulating the atmosphere of their much heralded new night at Balearic super club Pacha. Following the huge release of his hit laden album, ‘Nothing but the Beat’, the crown prince of modern day dance and his wife Cathy have curated 15 tracks of four on the floor, fist pumping, electro euphoria that is sure to bring back fond memories of Guetta’s explosive live set this summer. The mix starts as it means to go on, commencing with Guetta’s recent bass heavy hits ‘Where Them Girls At’ featuring Nicki Minaj and Flo Rida, followed quickly by Snoop Dog on ‘Sweat’, a mere nod to the huge number of global artists that seem to be queuing up to receive the Guetta stamp of approval these days. The album shifts gear when in drops dance floor classic ‘Rapture’ before seamlessly sequencing perfectly into Chris Brown, Benny Benassi and his ‘Beautiful people.’ Surprisingly only one more Guetta track follows as the albums sublime mix of house, techno and 8 bit electronica gradually builds, showcasing slightly more progressive explorations, a reworked version of Nina Simone’s ‘Sinnerman’ a particular highlight towards the end. It’s fair to say, like him or loathe him, Guetta has become the template for what is the modern commercial dance sound. In a similar way to Daft Punk’s seminal album of the last decade, albeit with a lot less innovation, David Guetta’s sound has formed the foundation of a global army of imitators. The F*** I’m a Famous set is very much an album in this mold, the Guetta’s have a magic formula, so why fix what ain’t broke.

Artic Monkeys are touring this January, so make sure you check out www. bbmlive.com for further details.

Compton, California’s Kendrick Lamar is viewed by many hip hop fans and insiders as one of the most promising of the new breed of artists. Lamar boasts impressive wordplay, timing and a distinctive voice, and this remix of “Rigamortus” off debut album Section .80 illustrates the assets he brings to the rap game. The track has a catchy and repetitive horn section alongside a thumping backbeat, and it is fitting that Busta Rhymes decides to drop in for a verse, as both Busta and Lamar have that ridiculously quick fire delivery that has you wondering how they can possibly do it. A track many hip hop fans will enjoy, but perhaps not for casual fans of the genre.

Nicolas Jaar Presents Darkside- ‘A1’ Nicolas Jaar has made a considerable name for himself in electronic music circles these past few years. The AmericanChilean producer of dark, minimal electronica has been somewhat prolific, releasing a stream of EPs and tracks, and has now started a new project with guitarist Dave Harrington entitled Darkside. ‘A1’ is their first offering, and it is good start for the collaboration. An atmospheric, dense and catchy track that makes good use of the pair’s respective talents, ‘A1’ fuses Harrington’s funk inspired guitar with Jaar’s brooding electronics surprisingly well. Eerie vocals and a thumping backbeat complete the mix, and may well result in the song becoming a dancefloor filler in the months to come. The self-titled EP featuring the song is now available via Jaar’s own label, Clown & Sunset.

Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All Infamous California rap collective, Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All (OFWGKTA) shot to fame following the release of controversial front man, Tyler, The Creator’s solo album, ‘Goblin’ in May 2011. The 10 man crew who, before ‘Goblin,’ had no physical releases despite recordings dating back to 2008, have since gained themselves a cult following. Odd Future have been labelled under a range of genres, from “horrorcore” to “indie rap,” and have disputed each categorisation as they come, leaving them all but un-definable. In ‘Sandwitches,’ they protest, “And we don’t make fucking horrorcore, you fucking idiots…” A fine example of the kind of controversial lyrics, that have been primarily responsible for their rise to fame. Their worldwide notoriety was further confirmed in November 2011, when their four-date UK tour sold out in a matter of hours, despite the group being dropped from New Zealand’s Big Day Out Festival due to homophobic lyrics and drawing in crowds of protesters at Pitchfork Festival in Chicago, who spoke out against Odd Future’s promotion of homophobia and misogyny. Multiple groups have developed within odd Future, including The Internet (Syd Tha Kyd and Matt Martians) who will release the first physical album from Odd Future Records, a label founded with the help of Sony’s RED Distribution, which will release music only by members of OFWGKTA. In September 2011, Odd Future Records digitally released ‘12 Odd Future Songs,’ as well as announcing their own sketch comedy show, ‘Loiter Squad,’ which is scheduled to premiere in 2012. Odd Future will be playing at Big Day Out, Sydney, Enmore Theatre 24th January, and Melbourne 1st February Words by Robin Lewis, James Stapleton, Ella White, William David Wilson, Matthew Daniel

INTERVIEW:

Royksöpp Royksöpp are the long reigning masters of experimental electronica. With a background from the club scene, four highly successful albums and an upcoming tour to Australia, BBM caught up with one half of Royksöpp, Svein Berge to find out some more. You first formed in 1998, which was 13 years ago, has the 13th year been a lucky one for you? In all fairness, Tøbjorn, the other guy, the pretty guy, we actually met as kids. We have been dabbling with electronic music ever since we were 13 so if you then start doing the math you’ll find it’s longer than 13 years which makes it even more embarrassing. But this year has been good.

How has electronic music evolved since the 90’s? There are good and bad things. I think as it stands now, there’s been an influence that electronic music has had on mainstream pop, particularly American pop and I’m not really a fan of that. But then again, there is always the underground. I think electronic music is best when combined with traditional acoustic instruments.

Who or what is the inspiration behind what you do? Well just to sound extremely pretentious and pompous I’d say life in general. That could be anything from getting pissed with friends to having a hike in the mountains, to eating a strange meal or seeing a good movie. There’s no particular source of information that we seek. Both Tøbjorn and I are curious people that like to push boundaries and explore and that’s our main driving force, to try new and different things.

What alternative career do you dream you’d be doing if you weren’t a musician? If I was to chase a dream and I wasn’t dealing with music, I’d be a blacksmith or maybe a movie director. I’m really into movies but I think that’s way too much work for me so I’d probably be doing something a lot duller, like working in an office.

You are known for your outlandish onstage costumes, have you contemplated the birthday suit? I wouldn’t know what that is. My mind works in mysterious ways so I’m immediately thinking something sexual.

It means wearing nothing… Oh, so that’s the birthday suit, well that has been contemplated yes, but I’m afraid people would get embarrassed when they see two enormous Norwegian cocks on stage...I don’t think you should print that but you can if you want!

(Of course we will) What have you been listening to lately? I’m very eclectic when it comes to music and it seems to go in cycles with me. I can have a period when I listen to 60’s Soul for a couple of months then I move onto anthem-related Rock from the early 80s. Right now I’m very into Italian Prog Rock from the mid 70s.

You’ve travelled all over the world to perform at festivals but who does it best, Europe or Australia? I’ve never been to Australia and it was something I had to do before I die. We have another year left in us... that sounds very dark. We just had to go while there was still a bit of youth left in us. So you guys better put on a damn good performance.

Do you need someone to come and help untangle your wires on tour? Well that’s the area where I shine. I can really be in control and know which plug to put in which socket and so on. But then again, I have reached the level now where I just boss people around. I say to people “please pour some water in my mouth while I’m standing here on stage.” So I have all these stage techs doing things for me because I’m so lazy and full of myself.

A lot of musicians have a list of requests (Rider) that they give to venues beforehand, like Ferrero Rocher and Coca Cola on ice, do you? Well there is always obviously the Ferrero Rocher that Tøbjorn requires to be anally inserted every 2nd hour! If you rewind back 10/11 years, our Hospitality Rider was a lot more excessive than it is now. We had a couple of years when we just went completely haywire requesting bits of the moon, prostitutes, lady boys and whiskey galore. We’ve toned that down a lot now, it’s down to just lady boys and Milkyways.

Is there anything exciting on the horizon for RÖYKSOPP? To us it’s always exciting; we feel that we are leading a particularly fulfilling life. We are as of now making new music. It feels good; we’re in a good mood. We had our period of making slightly darker music and now we’re ready for some more fun and energy and that feels good.

Well thankyou on behalf of all Norwegians. It has always been a bit of a riddle to me and I don’t know why Scandinavians are the way they are. Could it be the fresh air or could it be all the fish that has been eaten over the years. It is fair to say that it’s the Scandinavian women that are the pretty ones, the men aren’t that pretty, they’re fairly tall, but not pretty.

If you found some lost musicians in the forest what would you do with them? Well I’d whip them and rape them. No, I would take them back to civilization if that’s what they requested but then again I’m really drawn towards the forest so I would probably just keep the musicians in the forest, bring them some musical equipment and record some nice forest music with them, and fill them full of drugs and exploit them! INTERVIEWS: When they’re not busy fishing, playing golf and taking long walks Andy Gardner and Lee Rous are the award winning DJs, producers and dance music pioneers Plump DJs. Since their first release in 1999 Plump Chunks/Electric Disco they’ve gone on 4 studio albums, 5 compilations and countless successful singles and remixes, and played to thousands, proving their enduring popularity with audiences around the globe. As we prepare to welcome the lads back into to the bosom of Sydney’s summer party season, BBM caught up with Lee Rous for a cheeky late night Skype. So what have you guys been up to for the last week or so? Trying to get past the Xmas/NYE bottleneck -we’re doing a mad retro 80’s set for a mates pub in Bristol for New Years that we’re sorting out, and then also we’ve got our new album Dirty Weekend, out in April. So getting all the remixes together, finishing off our own music, and programming that into release schedules... Plus prepping for the tour - so we’ve been working quite hard actually!

So what can we expect from these shows? It’s gonna be good. I mean I don’t know how it could top last time but we’re working really hard on getting some new music together and putting on a really good show so if it’s gonna be as good as we can make it. It’s a busy tour but we can’t wait to get back to Aus and play our new stuff – it’s worth coming just to hear the Rocket Soul remix by Martin Horger, it’s just brilliant. So chuffed he could do it, we can’t wait to play it. We played it in Germany a couple of weeks ago, but playing for Australians is the best litmus test really.

You’re playing Chinese Laundry this month, which has pretty much the best club soundsystem in Australia... Chinese Laundry? Oh it’s amazing, amazing. When we played in 2010 I think we had one of the best crowds since the place opened, we were in the top 5 in terms of numbers, so it was big. And last minute they said “Oh you guys are playing for three hours” and we were like, aargh! We didn’t want it to drag. But we just had a brilliant set, it was so hot and sweaty but it was good.

Be warned -Sydney has gone bass music mad It’s exactly the same everywhere really. People still love breakbeat all over the world, but It’s not flavour of the month, the scene’s sort of moved on. A lot of the energy that the younger people were getting from breaks they’re now finding from other new forms of music that have come through like bass music, dubstep, drumstep, moombahton, you know - kids are steering towards those as they’re more exciting cos they’re new. Older genres, they’ve sort of explained themselves already if that makes any sense, so they’re less attractive to young people. The dubstep/drumstep phenomenon has really given people a new appreciation of bass, and desire to learn to produce bass properly, and that’s been quite inspiring for us too. We love funk and soul so those older genre’s still have a heavy weighting on new productions, they’re a big inspiration to us. You gotta be smart with everything really haven’t you, gotta keep moving forward I suppose. Estelle Gonzalez

NOISIA (who took their name from the word VISION inverted on an upside down VHS tape) are Nik Roos, Thijs de Vlieger and Martijn van Sonderen, hailing from Groningen, The Netherlands. Influenced by an eclectic range of artists, from The Prodigy to James Brown, Miles Davis to Konflict, Tipper to Fatboy Slim, Noisia make music for DJs and dance-floors that is interesting enough to cross over from the clubs to your MP3 player.

Releasing their first record in 2003 on SLR and releasing on every major drum&bass label in the following years, 2005 saw Noisia establish their own label, Vision Recordings to put out their drum&bass productions and collaborations and retain creative control of their music. Nik designs almost all of the artwork for the releases on their labels, and the guys love the challenges and rewards that come with running a label. In 2007 they established Division Recordings, a label for electro, house, breaks and dubstep. They then went on to establish Invisible Recordings in 2010, catering for the deeper and more experimental side of drum&bass. Over the past few years, accolades for Noisia have included Best Tech DJ in the UK National D&B Awards in 2009 and 2010, Best Producers at the 2010 D&BArena Awards and Best Drum&Bass Artist on Beatport in both 2009 and 2010. The guys have worked with, and remixed a number of diverse artists, with notable tracks including, ‘Alice’ by Moby, ‘Omen’ by The Prodigy, ‘E.T.’ by Katy Perry, ‘Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites’ by Skrillex, and Hadouken, whose entire second album ‘For The Masses’ was produced by Noisia. They have collaborated on a number of tracks with Foreign Beggars, the most successful being ‘Contact’, which has garnered over 3 million views on YouTube and become an influential underground hit. Another Noisia video that has been a big hit on YouTube is ‘Exodus’ which took 3 years to make and features KRS One. Noisia have been Dj’ing every weekend since 2004. They have played in major cities all over the world, from Sydney to Moscow, Tokyo to Berlin, Los Angeles to Johannesburg and have DJ’ed in some of the world’s biggest clubs. They have reduced their DJ’ing commitments recently in order to focus on production. Noisia’s music lends itself perfectly to videogames; their track ‘Groundhog’ is the hardest track to beat in the first DJ Hero, ‘Machine Gun’ and ‘Seven Stitches’ feature in three editions of the game WipeOut, and ‘Stigma’ and ‘Yellow Brick’ were picked up by Playstation to be featured on Gran Turismo. They were commissioned to make 8 remixes especially for Motorstorm Apocalypse, a triple-A racing game that was released in March 2011. 2011 will see the release of a Special Edition of their successful debut album ‘Split The Atom’. The original was released in April 2010 and showcases a wide variety of styles; from electro to drum&bass to dubstep. Having signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation publishing company, working on new videogame soundtracks and producing for a number of artists, Noisia are expanding into exciting new areas whilst continuing to make the ‘bangers’ they are known and loved for!

INTERVIEWS: BBM’s Hannah Shakir, speaks to the legendary soul singer, Jill Scott. Having scooped numerous awards as well as three Grammy’s, six studio albums under her belt as well as some successful stints acting in films such as ‘Hounddog’ and ‘Why Did I Get Married?’, it’s fair to say that the singer/poet/actress and mother is a very interesting person. What have you been up to this/last week? Well I went to the Soul Train Awards… and I won best R&B female artist which was really, really special. I saw all kinds of artists that I love: Cee Lo Green, Marsha Ambrosius, I got to dance with the legendary Julius Irving, who is Dr J for basketball fans out of The States. I had a really nice time. I’m trying to think of it all, there’s so many good things! I’ve had a really nice week.

You’re heading to the UK soon, are you looking forward to that?

Jill Scott......

Of course, of course! Some of the best audiences I’ve ever had, love to be there, I cant wait to get my Nando’s fix!

Yeah Nandos is alright! Yeah I do really enjoy them. I always have great audiences there, you guys have so much passion! And you yell so loud and you sing along and I’m like YES! That’s all an artist really wants is just to be appreciated and listened too. I feel heard, you know. That’s what I don’t get here in the United States, because I really, really do, but it’s just another intensity and passion, it’s like, I know you’ve heard that before!

Well that was my next question: how do we compare to the US crowds, but I guess you’ve answered that! Really different, it’s the next level of excitement. I think in the states they get so used to seeing us. So I suppose they’re accustomed to us being here so… They come, and they support and they scream and they do all of it. I love performing in the United States as well, but there’s always and extra little something, something when I get to the UK.

Where are you off to after the UK? Are you going back to America or are you on anywhere else? After the UK where am I going? I’m going to Oslo, yeah I’m going to Olso after I’ve been to Paris and Amsterdam and London and… Where else am I going? I can’t remember them all but I’m ending up in Olso to perform at the Nobel Peace Prize.

Wow, are you looking forward to that? I know right!

That’s so cool! I know, I know! I’ve heard about the Nobel Peace Prize, I’ve done reports on people who won the Nobel Peace Prize, you know when I was a kid, but to actually go there and be performing with I think a 60/30 piece orchestra! Bonkers! Love it.

So it’s been a good year for you so far! It’s been the best year of my professional career. I’ve just enjoyed every aspect of it. My son’s healthy and strong and funny and cool to be around. The touring was great, I toured with Anthony Hamilton and Doug E Fresh and Mint Condition this year. I called it the Block Party and DJ Jazzy Jeff was the DJ… It was sooo extra cool! People danced and had a great time, so that was the touring and, you know, life other than that is just… It’s GOOOD! There’s a nice balance between working hard and playing hard and getting some rest in between. That’s what really matters!

Yeah! Obviously you released The Light of the Sun this year. What’s the response been to that? How’s that gone down? So far it’s been incredible. The response to the record has been great, people really seem to understand it and appreciate it. It’s getting a lot of critical acclaim, which is always nice. And most importantly people are enjoying the music and that’s the best thing I could ask for, it feels good.

I really like that song ‘Quick’, it’s really fun to listen to. Me too. Thanks! It’s very alive. That’s the record. The record is alive and the musicianship is alive and the passion and the honesty is there. You know, really hard core. I went in, as you say.

And what was the thinking behind ‘Some Other Time’? You know just being a single woman out in the world. Sometimes the press for intimacy is too strong, even from myself. It’s better just to take time to get to know someone. That’s if you want something more, you know. If you just want a physical relationship then have it. Protect yourself and have it but you know, if you want more, if you want a friend and a confidant and a partner in an existence then take your time, slow down. Why waste all that good lovin’ for somebody that isn’t worth it?

Yes it sounded very wise. You collaborated with Eve on ‘Shame’. How did that come about? Eve is a silly girl, I’m a silly girl, and I just wanted to play so that’s why I called Eve. She’s alive and cool and free and you know I just called her to see what’s up and she though it was fun too so that’s what we did! I don’t take it all too seriously.

Obviously you’re a poet as well. Where do you look for inspiration when you’re writing poetry and lyrics? Life. I listen to girlfriends, I try to catch the bus when I can, people have conversations on the bus out loud, so I can hear. You know it’s not intentionally, they don’t know I’m earballin’ but I am! Just from life, listening to what’s happening with people and looking at myself. I do a lot of self-evaluation. Seeing where I am right now.

What’s your favourite process with being an artist? Is it the writing or performing or the recording? Hmm, that’s honestly a really hard question, because there’s stages to it and I really enjoy each one! I like those times when I’m in the studio until 3 or 4 o’clock in the morning. I enjoy that, being with great musicians and producers and vocalists, just enjoying ourselves. But I’m super blessed you know, I get to create and I love that. That’s the great part of it all, figuring it out and bursting into the studio and letting it pour out. And then, you know, there’s the preparation for touring and being with the musicians that I love and interpreting and reinterpreting. I love that! And then there’s always getting out on the stage and being in front of an audience that’s excited and animated and passionate. It’s all food, I just feel like I’m getting fed. As and artist and as a human being, it’s wonderful.

He just goes “Jill Scott’s a friend of mine,” because it rhymes with the lyric just before it! Then I’m a friend of his, yep!

You’ll have to give them a listen! I will, I will! I’m really excited about coming too because there’s so much new music that’s going on in the UK, I need you guys to hook me up!

Yeah it’s crazy here at the moment, we’re having new music, new artists are coming out every week and it’s really strong stuff as well so… It’s an exciting place at the moment. And when did you discover your actual talent for music? Was it really early on? Umm, I don’t know, honestly. I don’t know it just all started happening. I knew that I loved to sing, I knew that it felt good, I knew that it moved people. Um, I just, how can I explain? I wasn’t the artist that always dreamed of being an artist. I was going to be a teacher. And that was my focus, and life happened. Life just happened and next thing I knew I was in a theatre company and working in that genre, learning Shakespeare and Sondheim and then I was in a Broadway production and… I don’t know! One thing lead to the next!

And you were very successful at it! Yeah so far so good, I just really appreciate it all, it’s been a good ride.

And I was going to ask you, do you know the band Metronomy?

Have you got any plans to go out to Australia?

I don’t.

I would love to go to Australia, except I hear that there’s a lot of cockroaches.

They reference you in one of their songs. The lead singer says that you’re a friend of his and it’s quite a silly lyric but we were just wondering do you actually know Joseph Mount out of Metronomy?

Haha um, not too many is you stick to the right places!

His name’s what?

Joseph Mount I don’t think so. What does he sing?

But I do love the audience and I get messages from Australian folks on Twitter constantly and they’re asking me to come. Id love to come, just keep the cockroaches at bay! Please!

Well I’m sure they’d really like to see you so you have to let us know if you’re going out there. I’d just have to get my fear in check!

I should let you get on Jill, thanks so much for speaking to us! Pleasure

DJ Noir

This year has been a year to scream about for Rene Kristensen, known in the music world as ‘DJ Noir’. Over the last few years, he has gone on to achieve ‘Upfront Deejay Of The Year’ and ‘Producer Of The Year’ amongst many other awards for the DDJA! Noir’s fans range from music masterminds such as Pete Tong, Roger Sanchez, Carl Cox and more recently; Jamie Jones. He hit the big time in 2005 with his hit ‘It’s All About House Music’ and in late 2007 he went on to create his now highly successful and sought after label- Noir Music. He has been producing tracks that gain the upmost respect from the elite of World Class DJ’s and with over 10 years worth of production perfection; this is a guy who knows exactly how to please your ears. BBM managed to catch up with DJ Noir for a little chat about what he’s been up to. Hello, DJ Noir, or should I call you Rene? Please tell me if my voice goes into slow motion, the internet seems to be having an off-day…. Hello Frankie yes that’s cool; I’m good thank you and you? Oh and what if I like slow motion?

Ahh well, then we don’t have a problem. What have you been up to this week? I was in Athens last week, playing a great gig, then I had a couple of days at home and then I arrived in London about 12 hours ago ready for the DJ Mag awards.

So how do you feel 2011 has been for you?

So who’s inspiring your sound at the moment?

Well, the year started out really tough. I don’t think the whole music industry was suffering but I feel that the music I love, the deep house was suffering from the commercial take over. But it has got better through the summer and the rest of 2011. I just believe in what I like and hope for the best.

Solomun is doing some great stuff. Detron and then also Maceo Plex with his deep house versus disco vibes. I also get inspired by pop music such as Adele, Radiohead and of course my biggest idols- Depeche Mode.

Well obviously the crowds love you at the minute. So where’s your favourite place or crowd that you have played to? A gig I played at Turnmills just before it closed down has to be a favourite. That place was such a legendary club. I played the closing set and they asked me to play for 20 minutes whilst the security had to literally push the crowds out. That was one of my first big experiences in London, and was very cool.

Your tracks such as ‘Africanism’ have a tribal/carnival sound. What lead to you this? I always start completely from scratch. I’m a musician, I don’t program my melodies, and I play them by hand on keyboards. ‘Africanism’ is tribal as this is what sounded right to me at the time. Onto the new track ‘Around’ it has a totally different vibe again; the best tracks that I do are the ones which write themselves.

As for the huge response to the big tune of the summer- ‘Around’- Jamie Jones for instance playing it at the DC10 closing parties more than once! How did it feel to have a breakthrough? It is an amazing feeling, especially as the vocal tracks are the most difficult. I don’t think I knew it at the time but with the support of people like Jamie Jones and Seth Troxler it gets hyped. I have definitely been feeling the love this summer.

Within the track ‘Around’, what’s more important? The vocals on the track, or the deep clubby sound which loops through the Solomun remix? For the vocals, I instantly thought of Haze. You do collaborations like this and you live Worlds apart; you inspire each other and this made the vocals important. Then Solomun got his hands on the track. He had actually had a period where he had writers block and felt he couldn’t do good music. Then one day he listened to the song. This inspired a whole new era for Solomun. ‘Around’ really kicked that talent and he made a real difference for the record. It has gone into a new direction and works better in the clubs. It doesn’t have all the layers of the original making it more direct for the crowds.

Are you progressing away from the deep house or keeping your signature sound? I’m working on my album right now and the tracks are sounding a little bit 80s, leaning towards the sounds of Depeche Mode and Soft Cell. I sit down to make music and it all ends up sounding like deep house- maybe because this is obviously where my heart is.

I agree, Depeche Mode all the way. So who would you tell our readers to listen out for? I would tell people to listen to Larse, who is having great success with his track ‘So Long’. A year ago he had a great track called ‘The more you want’, but nobody knew about it. It was just about getting his music to the right people; people like Seth Troxler and Jamie Jones who really push your music forward. He is now number 3 on the Overall Chart on Beat Port which is commercial but great for deep house.

That’s an amazing result. So what’s the next big move for you? This weekend I am doing the final testing of my single, which is out in January. I did two versions, one of which sounds a little like ‘Around’. The other is a mixture of the Subb-an and the Solomun remix, the vocals are by a guy from Berlin- Richard Davies. He sang on a track by Trentemoller but no one really knows about this guy. I visited his Facebook fan page and there are only 300 fans - I’m going to change that.

So 2012 is going to be a big year for you? Hopefully yes. ‘Around’ will get a re-release and Defected may push it to the commercial side of the industry with some new remixes. Perhaps just give it a new twist. I’m releasing more singles from the album too.

That sounds like an amazing year to look forward to! So Rene, what’s the most embarrassing single you have ever owned? One of my own singles never got an official release. I sampled Paul McCartney and the Wings track -‘I Love You’. For the first time in history, Paul McCartney actually cleared the sample for use but it never got a full release. I’m a little embarrassed by the song but hey, Paul McCartney listened to the track and liked it which can’t be bad!

Oh come on, that’s not embarrassing! How about a track you bought when you were younger? Yeah, all the bad stuff from the 80s - which is actually pretty good- and pretty bad. The Kylie Minogue’s and the Rick Astley’s.

Yeah the guilty pleasures sometimes are the best. Well thanks so much for your time DJ Noir have a great evening and all the best for 2012.

Young Dreams

By Frankie Salt

Young Dreams is a 12-piece musical ‘collective’ who serve up a multifaceted and supremely ear-pleasing sound described by many as ‘tropicala’ pop, which is weird considering the band are from Norway.

In September 2010 Young Dreams popped their debut single, ‘Young Dreams,’ onto their facebook page and have had music critics and discerning listeners jizzing in their pants ever since. BBM pulled two of the collective, founder Matias Tellez and vocalist Rune Vandaskog, aside for a chat about the band as well as the general shitness of most modern pop music. So how are you both? What have you been up to today?

Rune: We’re in Burgen – it’s really cold. We’re doing fine but it’s winter. Matias: I overslept today. I was supposed to be in the office at 11 but I woke up at 12.30 in shock thinking, ‘woah! I overslept.’ It’s fucked up, yeah it was awful.

It couldn’t have been that bad? It was because I woke up, and I kind of half got out of bed at 9.30, but then somehow I ended up in bed again.

Yeah, that happens to me a lot... So, tell me, if you had to summarise Young Dreams in 3 words, what would they be? Matias: Err, Ambitious, exploring and big. I think that’s 3 good words. Rune: Dynamic, confusing [both laugh] but rewarding. Read the rest of the interview on www.bbmlive.com/interviews

FUNNY NEWS: If you’re boring, have no social life and tend to be an all round sad bastard, then BBM has the perfect sport for you.

A Clearly senile pensioner spent a whopping two days and two nights driving around the M25 like an idiot after getting lost on his way to his daughter’s. The 82-year-old’s worried family even reported him missing before the doddery old fool was finally found by police still at the wheel of his Vauxhall Estate.

The World Watching Paint Dry Championships are set to be held in the UK for the first time this year and the organisers are appealing for competitors. “You don’t need to be physically fit or participate in a vigorous training regime, what’s more important is mental strength, concentration and endurance,” said a spokesperson for the event.

Disorientated Dennis Leighton set off on the hour-long journey to Swanley, Kent, but ended up going around in circles.

“Previous paint-watching experience isn’t essential, but a bit of practice might help prepare contestants for the mammoth task ahead of them.”

Easily-confused Dennis spent two days trying to find his way to his daughter’s house which was only 55 miles from his home in Windsor.

Basically, if you’re capable of watching Australian day-time television for longer than half an hour or have ever said the words ‘Emmerdale was good last night’, you could be a world beater at this.

Neighbours of Mr Leighton said he was in hospital receiving treatment, believed to be for hypothermia. Let’s just hope he was also suffering from constipation - the idea of a pensioner locked in a car with only his bowels for company hardly bears thinking about.

While BBM may or may not have fathered several illegitimate children over the years (DNA tests pending), none of our spawn have yet reached an age where they’re ready to, as Ronan Keating often croons, “Find a girl, settle down. If you want you can marry. Look at me, I am old, but I’m an Irish twat.” We can’t remember the exact lyrics but it’s definitely something like that. But if the produce of our loins was ever to marry, we’d like to think we’d be less like the annoying old fart talking to his son in the Boyzone song, and more like Zhang Cheng, a Chinese bad dad from Xuzhou. Zhang was arrested recently after hiring two strippers to perform at his son’s wedding, prompting the shindig to be mobbed by randy locals looking for an ogle. “He had originally wanted a band to play at the nuptials, but was then advised he could get performers whose show would have ‘special features’,” said a witness. “Barely five minutes had passed before hundreds of villagers in the conservative community were swarming to the venue, trying to catch a glimpse.”

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck - It feels that Jennifer Garner has spent most of her life pregnant. The couple who already have two children, Violet and Seraphina so we’re guessing that the third should follow in suit. For a girl we’re predicting Aurora, Lily or if you’re looking for something super wanky and pretentious try Willow or Skye (with an ‘e’). If the couple pop out a baby boy, we’re going with something to match the girls, maybe River or Hunter, anything can beat Jamie Oliver’s ‘Buddy’.

“He got a little bit lost but was found safe and well in the early hours of the morning,” a Thames Valley Police spokesman said.

But despite his ineptitude, dippy Dennis still fell short of the worst case of driving under the influence of dementia. That record is still held by 72-yearold Mohammed Bellazrak, who last December spent three days driving nearly 2,000 miles for what should have been a 120-mile round trip. He set off down the M4 for Heathrow shortly before Christmas but went to Gatwick, when wife Latifa’s departure was switched to the Surrey airport. His nightmare ended at 2pm, Christmas Day, when he triggered a camera in Oxford and cops flagged him down. That’s what happens when old farts get too comfortable in the middle lane.

A supplies firm in Chesterfield have come up with an innovative new way to decide who to hire at interviews – choose the one with the biggest tits.

It’s unknown if Zhang started singing “I know, I have to go away” as they carted him to the cells.

Unfortunately, Cathelco’s brilliant new method – dubbed the BBM model - has been frowned on by an employment tribunal, which also took issue with the fact blokes at the firm used office computers to trawl websites selling blowup dolls and other sex toys and one chased a woman round the office and spanked her on his knee. It is unsure whether the chase was accompanied by the Benny Hill music and featured a bald man being repeatedly slapped on the head.

There’s absolutely no harm in living in a fantasy world. Just ask Cheryl Cole, who’s always phoning BBM up to beg for sex. Insatiable she is. But one British fantasist took being a nutbar to new heights in Monaco last month.

But despite sounding like BBM’s dream workplace, one woman at the company wasn’t happy and has just been awarded compensation for constructive dismissal. Angelina Ashby started work for the company in June 2003 and picked up the nickname Angel. Despite a promotion, she felt ostracised and her treatment by other male workers, which forced her to take anti-depressants. In one instance, she leant over a colleague’s desk to collect teacups and another sales executive said: “Never mind Pete, you have Angel’s tits in your face.”

Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie - Finally we can all make the joke Hilary is up the Duff, excuse the pun. We’re guessing that Hilary is into spirituality, judging by the dodgy names of her recent attempts at writing. For a girl, we would think something like ‘Destiny’ or ‘Sapphire’, yet for a boy we’re thinking she would like something boring and standard for a boy, something like ‘Mike Junior’ or ‘Max’. Let’s hope the baby doesn’t inherit Duff’s teeth, otherwise we’d be suggesting ‘Seabiscuit’. Chantelle Houghton and Alex Reid - The ultimate chav couple have

conceived and have a baby due next year. In keeping with their pikey tendencies, we’re suggesting something along the lines of ‘Chanel’ or ‘Crystal’ for their little girl. Something like ‘Levi’ or ‘Tyrone’ would suit their little boy well. Now all we can do is wait and see if any our predictions for 2012 are correct, they probably won’t be, but you never know!

Rihanna’s Darkest Secret

“I have been turned into someone who is completely lacking in self-confidence and is depressed and no longer the vibrant person I was,” said Angelina. Quite rightly, the 41-year-old mum-of-one was awarded £26,000 for her shameful sexist treatment at Cathelco. But in some bad news for Angelina, she’s an absolute hound. What were those guys thinking? She’d never get a job at BBM with a face like that.

GOSSIP: Alexander Thomas, a dapper 31-year-old from Manchester, goes around telling people he’s a top golfer despite the fact he sleeps in a car on the French Riviera. Somehow he managed to convince an American woman to meet him at his place but, realising she might be put off by the back seat of a car, he decided instead to break into a millionaire’s mansion.

Celeb Baby Boom for 2012

He then set up a “love bed” surrounded by rose petals, oranges, lemons and champagne bottles on a deck by an unfilled swimming pool, police said. Alex decorated a balustrade with posters of his idols: a young woman, Manchester United and Winnie-the-Pooh, before raising the black pirate’s banner over the scene. After practising his golf swing on the lawns, he turned on taps and showers to fill the pool and left them running while setting off to meet the woman.

So the redheaded slut is back again – or is she blonde now? Who cares? Having partaken in such scandals as dancing in short shorts and wearing shoes with writing on them, we’ve all been waiting for the day that Rihanna gives up trying to shock us and shrivels back into the nowhere that she came from.

Unfortunately, in the meantime, the real owner returned to discover a flooded pool had damaged some priceless memorabilia. When Alex came back, he was nicked by bemused police officers who’d had a good giggle watching CCTV footage.

For some reason unbeknown to us, people have been loving Rihanna ever since she took a beating from Chris Brown and milked it for all it was worth (yet chains and whips excite her? Hmmm…) and now there’s more! Rihanna has a son!

They say you can judge a society by how it treats its criminals. In America they have the death penalty, in the Middle East they cut off people’s hands and in Hartlepool, they hang monkeys. But they all pale in comparison next to the backward thinking of Kyrgyzstan after authorities in the country decided to deny prisoners their basic human right to shag prostitutes. What are we, animals? Under the old rules, randy Kyrgyzstani offenders could receive visits from family members and ‘others’. The basic flaw in this law is that ‘family members and others’ basically means everyone – so they were just bringing in whores for a bit of caged heat. But, new restrictions have put a stop to it and, quite understandably, the slapper-starved inmates are up in arms. Prisoners in several jails have launched hunger strikes in a bid to bring back their paid-for beauties. “Prisoners at seven prisons have refused to take their meals,” said Joldochbek Bouzourmankoulov, spokesman for the country’s prison-sentencing agency. “Prisoners had the right for visits from their families and ‘other’ people. But under the label for ‘others’, they were bringing prostitutes to the prison.” From now on, only relatives with identity cards showing their ties to inmates can visit. The news is another blow to Lindsay ‘train wreck’ Lohan, who is currently happy to do anything or anyone for a bit of extra cash. Looks like it’s back to jewellery store theft for you Linds just don’t do it in the Middle East.

2011 was a big year for celebrity babies being brought into the world, Mariah Carey had her twins, Hugh Grant getting pregnant was a surprise and Victoria and David Beckham had the most stylish baby to take over from good old Suri. However many stars are going into the new year with a bun in their oven, so we’ve compiled our baby name predictions, along with who we think might also pop one out next year. Beyonce and Jay-Z - Beyonce’s womb is currently keeping warm the most powerful baby in the world. Their parents rule the music industry, they’re minted and Beyonce is beautiful, meaning this is one lucky baby. We’re going for the name Hova, referring to Jehova or God, c’mon it’s Beyonce and JayZ’s baby, need we say anymore? Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson - Finally after months of debating

whether J-Simp was becoming super fat or expecting, she announced the news of her pregnancy. Always being one sandwich short of a picnic, we think Jessie Simps going to stick to her Southern roots yet choose something unisex, in case she forgets. We’re guessing Charlie or to be a bit more kooky Dakota.

Her song writers might suck and her stylist may need to be shot, but one thing’s for sure: her PR team do a bloody good job. But no secret escapes us at BBM. It turns out that before her questionable rise to fame, Rihanna had a son, named Derek, who is now five. Back in Barbados, her life spiralled into poverty and street bashing, as neighbours were outraged at her for having a child out of wedlock and, to add insult to injury, naming it Derek. So she moved to the States to pursue some sort of “American dream,” leaving baby Derek in Barbados, and somehow landed a stint as a pop star. Just goes to show that you don’t need morals or talent to be successful. Rihanna and her team refused to comment when asked about the child, but a source told us at BBM that she is still in contact with Derek, but wanted to keep him away from her life of luxury and fame. How humble of her, to leave her kid in some shack whilst she skips around Hollywood shagging every man in sight. We think BBM’s imagination just got the better of us, always good to test our creative writing skills though. By David Mahoney & Ella White

FOOTBALL NEWS

England’s Got Talent

By Richard Gadsby & Peter Simpson

Menace To Sobriety While the rest of the world forgot who Olivia Newton John was some time in the late eighties, in the Pure Blonde-addled mind of Australians everywhere, she’s still part of the Hollywood elite, regularly gracing the red carpets of Tinseltown when she’s not bravely championing the cause of brain training on the Nintendo DS. Consequently, in our three-year exile Down Under, BBM has seen the film Grease no less than 187 times, so our view of what constitutes a “bad boy” (slicked back hair, leather jackets, numerous song-and-dance routines etc) may have been slightly warped. Thankfully, we’re avid readers of that fine bastion of hard journalism, The Sun, and can therefore point to the Danny Zuko of the Premier League, Mario Balotelli, as football’s perenniel bad boy. So what really makes a bad boy then? Well judging by Balotelli’s actions this month it’s staying up late at a restaurant, and becoming involved in a humorous – but ultimately blameless – misunderstanding with the police. The 21-year-old forward was spotted breaking Man City’s 1am curfew by eating at an Indian restaurant before a game. He even signed autographs and posed for pictures with fellow diners after being involved in a playful swordfight with rolling pins with a friend.

If being force fed a steady stream of shit TV talent shows has brainwashed us into believing anything, it’s that Britain’s got talent. From Shakespeare to Dickens, from Churchill to The Queen and from Sir Steven Redgrave to Dale Winton, it’s clear Britain has been bursting with brilliance for centuries. And by Britain we mean England. Stuart ‘I want another knighthood’ Pearce certainly believes the Simon Cowell-fuelled hype. Last month, he sent the metaphorical Team GB tour bus around the country, asking players if they’d be interested in representing a British team at the Olympics. “I’ve got a feeling that the players themselves are desperate to be part of this Team GB situation,” he said. “I have spoken with a few players and the overriding thing that I am hearing back is that this is a fantastic showcase of our national sport in the Olympic games.

As for the police incident, he had his brand new Maserati confiscated by police who thought he didn’t have the proper paperwork – but he did. To be fair to the filth, he famously had his previous Maserati impounded 27 times, so they had cause to collar him.

For those still wondering how Manchester United failed to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League against a Swiss bloke called Basil, there was a little hint a week later when one of their key players was ruled out for the season. And we’re not talking about Nemanja Vidic.

Now, while Fletcher may have improved a lot over the years, the idea that a player of his, how can we put this politely, ‘Scottish’ talents was a key United player would have been laughable about five years ago. Back then he was on a par with Sunderland ‘stars’ John O’Shea and Wes Brown.

And with the Premier League down to a two-horse race already, and only two English clubs left in the Champions League, we need our blinkered illogical blasts more than ever to make the season interesting. So bless the twin saints of football (Saint James and Saint N’Greavsie) for the Lord has seen fit to furnish us with Andre Villas-Boas.

But in these post-Glazer days of financial thriftyness, it seems he’s turned into a key cog in the Ferguson cutback scheme.

“How can you imagine what is going on in the Chelsea dressing room? How can you know? “I’m normally indifferent, not watching on the telly to see what these people say. But I was watching the television at that moment, and I was gobsmacked.” Being the man’s man he is, Neville stood up for himself the only way he knows how. By getting his brother Phil to say something. “Even though he is a die-hard Man United fan I don’t think anyone can label what he has said - since he’s been on Sky, I think he has been pretty impartial,” said the in-no-way bias younger sibling.

“To say I have played through four World Cups, two Lions tours, 91 international games and a ridiculous number of injuries and other setbacks gives me an incredibly special feeling of fulfilment. “But by now, I know myself well enough to know that I will never truly be satisfied.

A Six Nations Win to Start Afresh

Whether it’s Kevin Keegan ‘loving it’ a bit too much, Jose Mourinho calling Pep Guardiola a Nazi paedophile or Alex Ferguson blaming the referee for being a useless twat every week, nothing beats a good-old fashioned personality clash in sport.

“I’d say this to his face with most pleasure,” fumed Villas-Boas. “What does he know about the Chelsea dressing room? What does Gary Neville know about our dressing room?

“I’d like to take this opportunity to announce my retirement,” he said on his website. “To do so fills me with great sadness but I know I have been blessed in so many ways to have experienced what I have with England.

Scotch Missed

Villas-Boas blows up

Neville invoked Villas-Boas’ fury after suggesting Blues defender David Luiz played as if he was controlled by a 10-year-old on a Playstation after the club’s loss to Arsenal. That clearly rankled with the Portuguese man o’ war.

No, if there’s a reason to love Jonny Wilkinson, it’s because Australians fucking hate him. Just the mere mention of the word ‘Wilko’ gets Aussies shitting in their vest tops. Now, sadly, the former golden boy of England has hung up his Aussie-baiting boots for a final time after announcing his retirement from international duty.

Despite getting injured every other day, Wilkinson retires as England’s alltime leading points scorer with a total of 97 caps. We salute you Jonny. BBM has never enjoyed a bloke holding his hands and waggling his arse so much.

Following the news that Vidic would be watching United’s fruitless attempt to catch Man City from the comfort of the club’s treatment tables for the rest of the season, the decision of Darren Fletcher to ‘take an indefinite break’ from football due to a bowel condition was treated as a big blow to their title chances.

The Chelsea boss became increasingly jittery during the club’s poor run early in the season to the point where his pent up belief that it couldn’t possibly be his fault, finally exploded in fine table-thumping style at a press conference. So who was to blame for Chelsea’s miserable start? An aging squad perhaps? The spectre of Mourinho’s ghost floating through Stamford Bridge? Well according to AVB, one man was the cause of all his woe – Gary Neville.

If there’s only one reason we love Jonny Wilkinson here at BBM Towers, it’s not because he won us the World Cup in 2003, booted us to countless Six Nations victories and came across as a model professional even in the debauched debacle that was England’s last World Cup campaign.

“For me now, I will continue to focus ever harder on my goal of being the very best I can be with Toulon and continue to embrace and enjoy wherever that path takes me.”

“There are very few of us who have been involved in a tournament on home soil. I was fortunate enough back in Euro 96 to see the exposure and the explosion of football in this country for that tournament.”

Could it also be a problem that, with the exception of a couple of Welshies, none of their players would make it into the side if it purely came down to skill? Perish the thought.

Roger Wilko And Out

Still, it hardly makes him Jack the Ripper does it? Throw in his previous antics of setting off fireworks in his house and throwing darts at people and he’s only a pea-shooter away from being Dennis the Menace.

“It’s a fantastic thing to be involved in and I think the players are generally very excited to be involved in this.

But it seems not everyone is happy at the prospect of Team GB (otherwise known as England plus guests). Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are all a bit peeved at the idea as it could cause them serious grief when it comes to defending their autonomous state within FIFA.

RUGBY

“Over the past year he has had several absence periods which we have attributed to a viral illness in order to respect his right to medical confidentiality,” said a club spokesperson. “Darren has, in fact, been suffering from ulcerative colitis (a chronic inflammatory bowel condition) for some time preceding this. While he was able to maintain remission of symptoms for a considerable period, this has proved more difficult recently and Darren’s continued desire to play, and his loyalty to both club and country, has probably compromised the chances of optimising his own health and fitness.”

The Six Nations is fast approaching. Well, it’s regularly approaching. Basically, it starts next month and it’s safe to say that more than one team will be looking to have a successful tournament. (That’s quality insight right there.) Obviously England will be hoping to do well – with the aim of victory helping to scrub away some of the shitty stink left over from those leaked World Cup reports, and to aid with the rebuilding of the RFU’s reputation from its current state of calamitous fuckwits running a carnival, to its traditional state of dusty old farts presiding over a respectable game. With Rob Andrew no longer responsible for team affairs, and Mike Tindall a doubt for selection, the RFU will be hoping that a satisfying Six Nations tournament will usher in a new era free of greed, incompetence, and dwarf-throwing. Well good luck with that lads, we’ll see how it goes. And good luck to the players too – we sincerely hope you’re able to make as much money as you can. Tossers. Oh yeah, there are other teams too; don’t think we’ve forgotten about them because we got distracted by the memories of the England team being interesting for once. We could be in for a decently competitive tournament here thanks to the lack of a clear front-runner and the strength of the squads involved (ah Italy you try so hard). France has to be considered a favourite as they’re likely to repeat their World Cup feats and inevitably grind their way through games; and the challenge of Ireland will depend on whether there’s a rush of retirements or the retention of their squad with the average age of 67. Also, Scotland and Wales…. Sorry, dozed off there.

UFC

Of course, the more pressing problem for Ferguson now is he now has no token Scottish player to put in the side. Expect a $5million bid for Middlesbrough’s Gary Robson to come.

The GSP-Diaz-Condit Merry Go Round

Diving Into Trouble

Erm, ok, just give us a minute. If we’ve got this right, Georges St-Pierre was to face Nick Diaz at UFC 137 but Diaz no-showed press conferences and got demoted to face Carlos Condit, but GSP got injured so Diaz was promoted to face B.J. Penn, then GSP was to face Condit at UFC 143 but Diaz pissed GSP off, so Condit was dropped so GSP could face Diaz, but now GSP is injured and Diaz will face Condit instead. Simple really.

Like it or not, those pesky foreign types won the diving war a long time ago. Long gone are the days when England fans would foam at the mouth whenever a referee booked Stuart Pearce for jumping two-footed into a striker’s standing leg. Now it’s just taken for granted that the ‘injured’ party will perform some sort of theatrical routine usually reserved for a 13-year-old Chinese gymnast that will result in either a red or yellow card depending on the performance. So while most football fans may well applaud Sydney FC’s moralistic “no diving” policy, in reality it’s a load of bollocks that will inevitably come back to bite them on the ass – whether it be through missing out on a penalty, or an inability to sign any striker from continental Europe or South America who relies on that side of the game for half their goals. Unfortunately for Sydney, or more specifically their players, the club has backed itself into a corner. After getting on their moral high horse in the wake of the game against Melbourne Victory when Roddy Vargas gave a stirring rendition of Swan Lake to get Mark Bridge sent off, they would look like tools if they didn’t back up their words. Step forward defender Shannon Cole, the first player to be fined by the club for diving. ‘’I knew I did the wrong thing as soon as I hit the ground, so I got up without asking for a penalty,’’ Cole said after Sydney’s game with Gold Coast. ‘’I was expecting to be fouled when he came across but after going to the ground I realised straight away he had not fouled me.’’

What it all means is that we’re going to have to wait even longer for the match-up between the two best welterweights in MMA. Has Diaz got the skills to beat GSP? The answer is probably not. Every time someone is put before GSP and made out to possess some quality that this time may be the undoing of the Canadian MMA robot, GSP simply adapts his game and crushes them in every single round with what has become monotonous regularity. But Diaz is that rare person who has managed to get under the skin of GSP (even that little pissant Josh Koscheck couldn’t annoy GSP) and we can hold out hope that getting inside GSP’s head may force the welterweight champ into making a mistake, or at least encouraging him to take a chance to finish his opponent for once. But we can forget about that for now. GSP is out for 10 months with a knee injury and it’s Diaz and Condit who are set to face each other on February 4th. Can Condit spoil the party and derail the UFC’s plans for GSP and Diaz? The answer, again, is probably not. What we’ll get though is a fight between two of the most aggressive guys in the sport, and one that should deliver all the excitement that a GSP fight lacks. Enjoy it.

CRYSTAL BALLS Cancer

You still haven’t realised that the things that impressed girls at primary school don’t work in real life. This week, for example, you try to impress a girl from work by sitting on her desk and farting the tune from the Frog Chorus. It may have left your seven-year-old school sweetheart giggling in hysterics but it just leaves Kylie from accounts grimacing and holding her nose – especially when you follow through on the last note.

Pisces

Praise the Lord and Hallelujah brother! You find salvation in the Lord Jaaaaaaaysus this month. Oh happy day! Remember though, the Lord does not look kindly on those who masturbate into vegetables at Coles. And lo, he will set you on the path of temptation this week when you come across a pumpkin with the exact dimensions of Beyonce’s arse. And when we say ‘come across’, we mean it literally. Forgive this sinner Lord! Our resident psychic, Crystal, tells you your fortune for the month…

Capricorn

What happened to you Capricorn? You used to be cool. Now you dress in tweed and think it’s ‘groovy’ to quote lines from the Austin Powers franchise while wearing a ‘Vote for Pedro’ T-Shirt. It’s 2012 you codpiece. Go out and buy an Angry Birds T-shirt and quote lines from The Hangover instead. Then everyone will think you’re really awesome. And you’ll get loads of sex too.

Sagittarius

You become an insufferable do-gooder this week and join PETA, spending most of your days outside Town Hall shouting things like “The cow is a slave, the cow is a commodity thrown away by a society gone wrong.” and “We speak for those who can’t speak for themselves”. Shut up and take a shower hippy. We all know you just want to get ‘intimate’ with the animals but aren’t man enough to do it - unlike Virgo the pig shafter.

Dear Angus,

Aries

There’s no easy way to say this Angus, you’ll just have to bear with me. You’re suffering from an untreatable medical condition known by experts as ‘Being Scottish’. Despite affecting millions of people north of Carlisle every year, this terrible disease has long been ignored by the mass media. I myself have been a campaigner against this tragic affliction for many years, ever since I had a brief ‘Scottish’ scare of my own in the late 80s when I accidentally slept with Alan Hansen. I was drunk at the time and regretted the incident immediately. I spent weeks waiting for signs of my Scottishness to appear (painting my face blue, developing a laughable hatred of the English, normal people constantly asking me to repeat myself etc). When the doctors gave me the allclear six months later it was one of the happiest days of my life and I’ve been careful never to go on a hen night to Glasgow ever since. Sadly, for you, there is no hope. My only advice is to pray for a swift death. It’s got to be better than watching your national football side humiliate themselves every year.

Oh lighten up Aries, people lose their legs in shark attacks every week. Admittedly, when it happens to you this week, it’s a pretty gruesome affair (bye bye genitals!) but, come on, stop blubbering about it and do something interesting next month will you? It’s boring for me watching you moan about how ‘you’ll never have kids’. Quit moping about it and be more pro-active.

Libra

Aquarius

Sorry Libra, my crystal ball is on a pay-as-you go plan and I’ve just run out of credit. No predictions for you.

You’re called up to the Scottish national football team. It’s not so much the fact that you’re good at football, more that Scotland are shit and desperate. Humiliation in San Marino awaits.

This week you leap into the body of Cameron “Cam” Wilson, a high school nerd who must prevent his sister from marrying an abusive man, an incident that reminds you of the fate of your own sister. Oh boy!

Virgo

You really are shit at keeping New Year’s resolutions aren’t you. One bloody month and you’ve already broken it. I guess porking barnyard animals is just in your blood. Freak.

Gemini

It’s a tough old week for you Gemini as you find out the identity of your real father. Turns out he’s a bit of a creep. Just bear in mind these words of advice from my former mentor: “Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is.” And whatever you do, when your real father reveals himself, don’t let him chop your hand off and chuck you down a big wind tunnel. And don’t snog your sister either.

Dear Crystal,

Leo

This month, you change your name to James Bond for a laugh and walk around in a tuxedo ordering Martinis ‘shaken not stirred’. All your mates think it’s hilarious, but the joke’s on you when a heavy-set Eastern European man with metal teeth kills you under the orders of Blofeld.

Jings, crivens and help ma boab! Och Crystal, yuv gawt ta help me. I had one tee many Buckfasts last night and slept with a woman from Glasgee. When I woke up this morning, I had a heed like a haggis and the most hideous Scawtish accent. It’s even affecting ma spelling. Be a doll girl and tell ma hay tae sort it out? This morning I had a battered Mars bar for breakfast washed down with an Irn Bru. I’m at my bonny wits end... freeeeeedom!! Yours, Angus McSporran

Scorpio

“On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair. Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air. Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light...” Sorry, I was listening to The Eagles. What am I supposed to be doing again?

Dear Crystal, I think my boyfriend may have slept with another woman. It’s driving me crazy. He went on a lad’s night out up Kings Cross recently and didn’t come home until early afternoon the next day with his boxer shorts missing. Ever since then, he’s refused to sleep with me, saying he doesn’t feel well, but when I tried to surprise him in the shower the other day I saw his penis was all purple and bruised. The other day, I went through his wallet and found a receipt for some flowers to someone with the initials CB. What should I do? Yours Josephine Dear Josephine, Battered bell end? Flowers to CB? Sorry to break this to you Josephine but it sounds like he’s the bloke I shagged the bollocks off down an alley a couple of weeks ago. Poor little bugger’s been obsessed with me ever since.

ADULT EMPLOYMENT

What did the letter O say to the letter Q? Dude, your dick is hanging out.

Jeff, Bondi

I don’t have any kids, so I just show pictures of my wank sock to people.

“Doctor Doctor, do you get pissed off with having the same surname as your profession?”

Rebecca, Newcastle

I’ve certainly got my eye on the ball... Last time I go to an orgy in a telephone box.

TRAVEL: HEAD SOUTH FOR SUMMER

Go Shark Diving

You’ll not only find award-winning local food and wine, but also breath-taking landscapes and beautiful historic towns. Using the freshest local ingredients, Victoria is the perfect place for a gourmet getaway, which is sure to tickle your taste buds. Victoria’s gourmet chefs are lucky enough to have an abundance of local produce right on their own doorsteps, and there are some interesting and delicious creations to be savored.

Though not for the faint-hearted, shark diving is an activity that should not be missed during your visit to Australia. And where better to do it that the Neptune Islands.

Innovative chefs use top produce to create a range of cuisines at Victoria’s top eateries.

Just off of Port Lincoln, South Australia, The Neptune Islands are home to some of the world’s largest great white sharks, as well as sting rays, eagle rays, and species of marine life that can be found nowhere else on the planet.

The Victorian seafood industry boasts some of the finest seafood in the country, as the cooler waters produce high value species such as southern rock lobster and abalone. Amongst other unusual seafood caught locally is quality scallops, scalefish, eel, giant crab and wrasse.

Utilising a cage in order to view these wonderful creatures, you’ll be relatively protected from these ferocious fish. The cage is lowered to the ocean floor, where hordes of Southern Ocean sea life awaits. Giant smooth rays, and eagle rays will glide by along with wrasse, leatherjackets and the beautiful South Australian blue groper which are never too far away.

To top off your high-class dining experience, Victoria is home to 21 distinct wine regions, which boast as many as 850 wineries, many of which offer cellar door tastings and you can dine on local produce at winery restaurants. From the cool-climate varieties of the Yarra Valley to the big reds of Rutherglen, you can create your own Victorian wine experience.

Huge great white sharks majestically and effortlessly saunter around, leaving you spellbound by their grace and power, which will no doubt leave an image ingrained in your memory that will last a lifetime.

If it’s just a quiet coffee that you’re looking for whilst passing through, you’re in luck! Melbourne is the coffee capital of Australia. In the CBD, the cobblestoned laneways are filled with the aroma of espresso coming from a myriad of cafes.

Shark diving is the must-do experience for adrenaline junkies to those tackling fears. With a range of expeditions available, from two to eight nights to work around your travelling schedule, everybody is encouraged to dive with the ocean’s apex predator.

Victoria’s regions are renowned for their fresh, diverse and bountiful local produce. If you’re a bit of a connoisseur, you can taste the best of each region in a variety of ways – from roadside stalls and shop fronts to market sellers, country pubs, food festivals, pick-your-own farms and winery restaurants pairing signature wines with high-quality fare.

Trained dive masters encourage and guide all new divers to participate in surface cage dives, where you breathe air from a ‘hookah line’, a surface fed air supply. Here the cage floats right at the water’s surface, and is fixed directly to the boat.

More adventurous foodies should be sure to check out Victoria’s famous gourmet deli trails. From Phillip Island to Noojee, and from Fish Creek to Traralgon, you can pick, sip and taste your way through some of Australia’s most appealing countryside.

Plunged 60ft into Australia’s azure waters, more advanced divers will be subject to some of the world’s best shark viewing opportunities, whilst surrounded by all the local tropical sea life - an experience which has often been acknowledged as “the pinnacle of a diver’s career.”

You will gather food from its source, meet the grower and discover the best ways to prepare and present it, and when the day is done, you wont have any trouble finding a restaurant, bistro or café.

The Bondi to Coogee Walk The Bondi to Coogee walk is a pretty simple self-guided walk which covers coastline, parks, heritage and some absolutely outstanding views. In just under two hours, the walk, starting at the southern end of Bondi Beach will take you up and down many steps and sights covering Mackenzies point, Tamarama, Bronte Beach, Waverley Cemetery and then onto Clovelly before ending in Coogee bay.

As you enter the Bronte side of things the views just seem to get pretty breath-taking. Bronte really is a beautiful beach, there’s a great ocean pool and some pretty amazing spots to just sit and take in the sights. The dramatic rocks and coastline take you further round and it’s here you can cut inland to visit the Waverley cemetery where many famous Australians have been buried since the late 1800s.

As you begin to walk around the coastline, there’s some pretty crazy sights going down. What we like most about the walk is that you can read-as-you-go, gain some historical knowledge and you can just have a little gander at what’swhat on the route around the coast.

This walk is all about the turquoise waters, the crazy rocks surrounding the coastlines and the bars/restaurants spotted all around. This walk is great for you health kids with the exercise spots continually popping up too. The walk officially stops at the Northern end of Coogee Beach where the surf is much more sheltered providing a cool spot for a swim.

Bondi’s Iceberg Club is on the first leg of the walk and the pool is full of swimmers out in the depths of the ocean. At the beginning of the summer, a tonne of ice is dropped into the baths and the season begins! The walk has been popular since the 1930’s and judging by the popularity of the walk; it’s a favourite spot for people of all ages.

The memorial for the Bali bombing victims is a really interesting end to the walk and one which really captures all walkers, as people pay their respects.

Tamarama beach seems a little edgier than Bondi with a rougher surf and whiter waters. The wind definitely picks up but feels grand with the salty air all around, a clear escape for all from the city. The seaside smells are reminiscent to that of a quaint English seaside resort (without the evil seagulls and the awful sounds of the fairgrounds).

This walk is definitely one for a either a steady jog with your pooch or a simple Sunday stroll for you and your mates along with parks, play areas and picnic set-ups to chill at along the way. By Frankie Salt
