CLUB MANAGER Happy April 1st to everyone. It feels like we might actually have a spring as the weather is starting to turn. The golf course has opened and we are starting to work on the opening of the outdoor pools. Before too much longer, we are going to be talking about the Clambake that is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend. It is crazy how quickly time is flying by this year! As I mentioned, the golf course opened about 2 weeks ago and it has been nice to see everyone coming out to play. The course held up well during the wintertime and I know Craig and his crew have done a great job getting it ready for everyone. There was a lot of tree work that was done over the wintertime so hopefully, that makes things a little easier on the course for everyone. April 8th is the Member Mixer starting at 6:00 PM, we are looking forward to seeing everyone there! Also that night, we are hosting a Murder Mystery in the Ballroom. There is limited space available for anyone that is interested. Please let us know if you are interested in signing up as the remaining spots will go quickly. The staff and I are extremely excited about this upcoming season and can’t wait to see everyone around the club this summer. As always, please feel free to reach out if there is anything that we can do for you. Take care and we will see you soon. Sincerely, Chris Thomas

FITNESS Spring into Spring! The weather outside is not frightful and working out outside can be delightful So grab your mat, and weights and start slow, But let’s go, let’s go, let’s go!!!! Ok, so I just had to do it, I know, I know, it’s corny but it’s TRUE! The weather is better, days are warmer, and we get anxious to enjoy the beauty of Ocean Edge and all that the Cape has to offer. However, remember, your knees, ankles, hips, etc. may not have walked the beach or played pickleball or tennis consistently for several months. Many injuries happen in the Spring and with just a little caution most could have been avoided. Here are some tips to make sure you Spring into Spring safely and enjoy the most of our amazing club 1. STRETCH, STRETCH, AND STRETCH. Hold your stretches for at least 8 to 10 seconds. Make sure you breathe and do not hold your breath. 2. Before you put yourself in a competitive atmosphere, go practice and try to simulate some of the movements. For example, playing tennis/pickleball may include lateral movements, so do some lateral exercises or stretches before you play a match. If you are thinking of starting to run again or your goal this year involves a 5k, start with a walk, run intervals. If golf is your game, incorporate trunk rotation exercises and stretches before you hit the golf course. 3. NEW YEAR, NEW YOU! Don’t get stuck in the past. Set some realistic goals and work towards them. Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns regarding your fitness and wellness plans. We are here for YOU!
Best, Heidi VanAmburgh
WELLNESS Seared Scallops with White Beans & Spinach “Scallops are a scrumptious and low-calorie source of protein that take to whatever sauce they're made in, deliciously. Yet, you have to look long and hard to find a scallop on a restaurant menu and we can't quite figure out why. Perhaps it's because scallops are considered a fancier option than that of shrimpand fish, and unlike a shrimp, scallops don't take to deep-frying or breading well. But there's no need to wait for a special occasion to dig into seared scallops."
Ingredients:
2 strips bacon, chopped up into small pieces 1/2 red onion, minced 1 clove garlic, minced 1 can white beans, drained and rinsed 4 cups baby spinach 1 lb large sea scallops salt & black pepper to taste 1 tbsp butter juice of 1 lemon
Directions:
Step 1: Heat a medium saucepan over low heat. Step 2: Cook the bacon until it has begun to crisp. Step 3: Add the onion and garlic; saute until the onion is soft and translucent, 2 to 3 minutes. Step 4: Add the beans and spinach and simmer until the beans are hot and the spinach is wilted. Keep warm. Step 5: Heat a large cast-iron skillet or saute pan over medium-high heat. Step 6: Blot the scallops dry with a paper towel and season with salt and pepper on both sides. Step 7: Add the butter and the scallops to the pan and sear the scallops for 2 to 3 minutes per side, until deeply caramelized. Step 8: Before serving, add the lemon juice to the beans. Step 9: Season with salt and pepper Step 10: Divide the beans among 4 warm bowls or plates and top with scallops.
AGRONOMY After a winter of blizzard, rain, and wind the clean-up can seam over whelming on the golf course to prep for opening day. Clearing debris from the winter begins in early March. The agronomy team works to remove all debris from the golf course to provide a clean slate to the start of the golf season. Many man hours are done using blowers, rakes and shovels to complete this task. To the right, Assistant golf course superintendent Dan Feder and Ryan Meister work on remove debris. Prep also continues to all bunker on the golf course. Bunker sand depths are checked throughout the bunker bottoms. We look to have 6” of sand on the floors and 4” of sand on the slopes. With our increased in rounds played we have a lot of sand movement. We relocated exciting bunker sand around first, taking from high spots and moving to low areas. If more sand is required, we haul in new bunker sand to get to correct depths. Mowing has taken place, as the smell of fresh cut grass signals the first signs of spring. Greens are getting there first mow of the 22’ season. Below 10 fairway shining after its first mow.
We look forward to seeing everyone back out and the golf course and hope that cape cod spring weather is kind to us. Sincerely, Craig Sullivan
