CLUB MANAGER Good afternoon Members. First and foremost, I hope that you and your families are staying safe and healthy. It is hard to believe that we are still dealing with the pandemic this late in the year. Many of us would have thought by now we would have turned the corner. We appreciate your understanding as we continue to navigate the ever-changing situation. Now, it is hard to believe that it is already September and Labor Day Weekend. This season has flown by. It has been great to bring back Wine Down Wednesdays and Happy Hour at the Linx as well as some of the other member social events. I know those were greatly missed last year and we appreciate everyone's support of those events and attendance. We have already started planning for next season and will continue to keep expanding all of those offerings as well as looking to add new events for this fall/winter and into 2022. I am extremely excited to introduce you to our new Member Relations and Communications Manager, Kaitlin Saint Laurent. She just recently moved to the area from Arizona and has an impressive background and work experience at private clubs. She is a great addition to the team and we are very excited to have her join us. Please stop by and welcome her to the Ocean Edge Family. I want to thank everyone for all the warm welcomes and for providing me with feedback and comments about your experiences here at the club. I want to make sure that everyone feels like they have a voice and are truly enjoying their time on the property. We will continue to find ways to improve and offer new and exciting programs and events to keep everyone wanting to come back for more. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if there is anything that we can do for you and your families. We have many new team members in some areas so your feedback goes a long way in helping us improve and get better. Thank you all again for being so welcoming. Everyone that I have met has been amazing and I appreciate your making me feel at home here. Looking forward to a great Fall with everyone. Stay safe and we will see you at the Club. Sincerely, Chris Thomas, PGA Club Manager

PRO SHOP PRAISE 2021 Nahass Matchplay Championship Bruce MacLean and Joel Hughes had an exciting match. Bruce led at the turn 3 up. Joel then won #10, won #11 with an excellent birdie bringing him to only one back. The next five holes had some good back and forths. On #13 Bruce’s drive clipped a tree on the right leaving him with a long shot to the green. He hit it to about 12’ feet only to see Joel hit his just inside Bruce’s ball. After 16 holes the match was all even. Joel’s challenge was losing four golf balls across the round. In the heat of the closer back nine battle, he did so on #’s 14 and 17. Bruce birdied 17 while Joel’s third shot was lost right in the brush. Needing to win the final hole Joel hit a great drive, hit his second into the front center trap but hit a great sand recovery. Bruce was just short of the green in the rough near the green’s edge. Both players had putts inside 5 feet for Bruce to win and Joel to extend, neither were able to sink those tricky putts, ending the match with Bruce one up. By Bill MacLachlan President, Ocean Edge Men’s Golf Association

AGRONOMY
The Agronomy team is hard at work to maintain the best course conditions possible for our members and guest. The golf course projects start to quiet, and our attention turns to daily routine tasks such as mowing, course set-up, watering, and bunker maintenance. Detail work such as trimming yardage plaques, irrigation heads, drain covers, and filling a whole lot of divots become a priority. An increase in rounds played has been great to see, as most days on the golf course are full of golfers. The Agronomy team would greatly appreciate help with on-course etiquette. Fixing your ball marks and divots as well as a few extra would go a long way in helping us present the golf course with great conditions. Retrieving your divot pelt and replacing it is the preferred method versus using a divot mix. A divot pelt can reroot in only a few days, where seed can take 14-21 days to germinate. As we are in the full swing of summer the golf course takes on its summer look. Green play surfaces and tall golden-brown fescue making for great views around the golf course. The summer also brings extreme heat and humidity. The golf course reacts differently to those conditions. The high amounts of moisture in the air decrease the ability to dry out our playing surfaces. Also, with high temperatures, there is a need to cool the turfgrass off during the hottest times of the day, which is 12:00pm–3:00pm. During these times you will see members of the Agronomy team hand water greens as well as operating sprinkler heads. I promise they are not trying to slow your round down or interrupt your game. We ask that if they are on a hole you allow them to finish syringing, please do not hit into them for their safety. Thank you and look forward to seeing you on the course. Sincerely, Craig Sullivan
