CLUB MANAGER Good Afternoon Everyone, It is amazing how quickly the weather has changed from Summer to Fall. It seemed like it was in the 80’s not too long ago and now we are down in the ’50s at night. I truly do love this time of year. Cooler Days and Nights, Fall Golf and Football. Just a great time of year! We sent out the Member Survey earlier this evening and we hope that you take the time to fill that out for us. This survey will help us as we begin planning for the upcoming season and your input is greatly appreciated. Please let us know if you have issues with the survey and we will be happy to assist you. We hope that you will join us Friday, October 8th in the Member’s Lounge at Linx for the End of Year Happy Hour. We are looking forward to seeing you all there. The annual meeting will be held on Friday, October 22nd at 5:00 PM. This meeting will be both in-person as well as via Zoom. We are working on the location and will send that out to everyone once we have finalized those details. For those who can not join us, we will be sending out the Zoom information as we get closer. I have had the privilege and honor of meeting many of the members this season. I truly understand why Ocean Edge is so special and it is because of the members. I appreciate the passion, dedication, and loyalty that they have shown the Club over the many years that they have been here. I know that there are many of you that I have not met and I hope that our paths cross in the very near future. I love hearing about everyone’s story and what makes Ocean Edge special to them and their families. There were many challenges this season but I hope that we will get those corrected so that we can continue to provide the experience that makes Ocean Edge home for you. Thank you again for a wonderful season and as always, please let me know if there is anything that we can do for you. Take care and hope to see you soon! Sincerely, Chris Thomas

ADVISORY BOARD Message to Members from the Advisory Board: Dear Members Welcome to what many consider to be the most beautiful season on Cape Cod. Our beautiful Fall weather has not disappointed and hopefully, all are taking advantage of the many offerings Ocean Edge has to offer during this wonderful time of the year. A special shout out to the amazing team members and Managers here at Ocean Edge that have done a remarkable job servicing members and guests alike. I know most are aware of the horrific staffing shortage our club and resort has experienced this summer along with the entire hospitality industry nationwide. The team members here at OE are to be congratulated for their hard work and positive attitudes. The most important priority for your Advisory Board this fall will be to work with management to ensure that our social calendar for 2022 contains many more events and that all these events are on our calendars as soon as possible. Scheduling some of these events this past season was very difficult due to the backlog of weddings and other events that were booked for 2020 but had to be pushed forward a year or more due to the pandemic. For instance, this past weekend OE hosted 9 weddings in addition to other social events. The social calendar for the resort already looks very busy for 2022 so we will work to make sure that our member events get on the schedule early. Our golf course is in pristine condition due to the continued hard work of Craig Sullivan and his team, and staffing our pro shop for 2022 is already underway and all are looking forward to an early spring opening with all hands on deck. On behalf of your Advisory Board, I want to thank all members for their continued support and involvement in our very successful club. All the very best and continue to have fun! Craig Mance

FITNESS Fall into Fitness! Don’t wait until December 31st to make your fitness goals. The weather is cooler, you can layer up and enjoy the sunshine, and especially in New England, the colors of the season! Fall is the best time to plan to not put pounds on over the holidays. So how can you do more with limited time? Here are some ideas that will fit into even the busiest schedule. Walk, walk, walk and walk some more…… Take advantage of the local state trails and forests. It is amazing how many beautiful areas are hidden away! Having a meeting? Make it a walking one! Brainstorm over ideas and challenges. It is a more healthy and relaxed way to be creative. Going to your kids/grandkid’s sports games or practices? Turn this social setting into an opportunity to walk and talk. Catch up with your friends while burning calories! Feeling tired? Lack of energy? Studies have shown that people who walk at least once a day for even just 15 minutes tend to have better sleep patterns. There is an old saying that I heard once “if you rest, you rust". Use the fall to make sure the only rust around you is the beautiful color of the fall leaves! Best, Heidi VanAmburgh

WELLNESS October is the perfect time to make chili! You can omit the chicken for a vegetarian option, it has great spices and flavor. I like to add some hot sauce and serve with tortilla chips, Enjoy! Best, Heidi Vanamburgh

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 1 large onion, chopped 3 cloves garlic, minced 2 cups cubed sweet potatoes (1/2 inch) 1 medium green bell pepper, chopped 2 tablespoons chili powder 1 teaspoon dried oregano 1 15-ounce can of low-sodium cannellini beans, rinsed 2 cups of low-sodium chicken broth or homemade chicken stock 1 cup frozen corn 2 cups cubed cooked chicken (1/2 inch, about 10 ounces) 3/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper sour cream, avocado and/or cilantro for garnish

AGRONOMY It is amazing how quickly mother nature can turn. We had another drought-filled summer season where we received less than 2” of rain for the months of June, July and August combined. We will be ending September with over 7” of rain for this month alone. All of this rain will help to recharge our water aquifer which has been stressed the last two summers. As we enter October, we get to enjoy one of the best golf seasons around, fall golf on the Cape! While golfers enjoy the remaining days of the golf season, the Agronomy team will start to turn its attention to the 2022 golf season. Many of the projects and practices we perform on the golf course this fall will have a direct impact on our success for next season. Aeration is our biggest event that will provide the most benefits for next season, putting greens being the highest priority. The putting greens receive more traffic than any other playing surface, so the aeration process helps relieve the compaction caused by all that traffic. It also helps create a firm and smooth putting surface by controlling thatch and promoting healthy turf roots. Tee aeration was completed in early September. With favorable temperatures and rainfall, our aeration holes quickly healed. Below are pictures of the 10th tee box. The first picture is the tee boxes top-dressed on September 1st and the second picture is the same tee boxes fully healed September 15th. October is a busy month for aeration. From October 12th to the 15th, the greens will receive their fall aeration. We will focus on 9 holes at a time and always have the other 9 holes open for play. We will be doing approaches the same week as greens. Fairways will be aerated sometime between the end of October to early November. This fall we have a big push to increase the playability of our roughs. We have started over-seeding weak and thin rough areas with newer types of rough grasses. We use a blend of turf-type tall fescues. Turf type tall fescue has a similar appearance to Kentucky bluegrass but it has better drought tolerance than Kentucky bluegrass. With the drought conditions our last two summers, this will help us improve our rough when dealing with those circumstances. In the picture below our First Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, Dan Feder is over-seeding a thin area of rough on the 3rd hole. We hope to see you on the golf course enjoying these spectacular fall conditions!! Sincerely, Craig Sullivan
